Senior Women Match Reports
Week 14/10/2024
Team Navy
Nicole went out to do the toss and true to her number (13) Lost the toss and we were sent into field. The wind on Loxton three was harsh and very different from the net training. Most of us changed our bowling to go around the wickets. We had some solid bowling from the girls keeping it on the pitch, we took 5 wickets. We should have had 6 with Mel’s (our keeper) run out not given but will leave that there.
Shayla took three of the 5 wickets with some spectacular bowling. Kirsten and Nicole took the other two wickets. With 2 caught and bowled (Kirsten & Shayla) a caught behind (Nicole) and 2 bowled(Shayla) it was a good variety with lots of pressure. Batting we were sent to chase 5/126+ wickets. Nunya and Shay opened the batting. The biggest challenge we faced was the balls not being bowled on the pitch. When the balls were we hit some beautiful shots. Our batting was shared around with honourable mentions to Kirsten, Nunya, beck and Nicole.
We finished batting 4-127. With their wickets and ours added the girls celebrated with cheers as we knew our extra wicket (and valuing our wickets when batting) was the cherry on top.
Well done to the both the Navy and pink girls on their first win of the season. We have a few little things to work on like backing up at the stumps, putting our bats down when we run between wickets, and some practice out on the grounds to get use to the different conditions. All round it was a fantastic effort from everyone. We would love to see our runaway bay family pop down next game to cheer us on. Navy’s next game is 3rd Nov at Loxton 3.

Team Pink
The day finally came! The sun was out, there was a gentle breeze, and a nervous buzz in the air. We met up with our opponents at Coomera, and after a brief schooling in bat tossing, Coomera took the first victory of the day. They were sending us in to bat first.
Gee and Marnie stepped out to the crease to face up to the first overs of the much anticipated season for the Bay Pink Women. In the style we have become accustomed to for our friend Gee, she slogged any loose balls that came her way off to the boundary, and finished her 14 balls with 18 runs. Marnie has been impressive hitting the ball in the nets and this translated well to the pitch, taking some good shots from anything she could get bat on, with only 1 dot ball in her 13 balls faced.
Emily and Teagan soon followed. Neither managed to find the gap to the boundary, but they both kept themselves busy running between the wickets for sneaky singles, and not one barbecue!
Carol and Sabreena were to follow. Carol looked as comfortable as ever at the crease and played some beautiful shots to score 24 runs off just 14 balls, including 5 boundaries. Sabreena showed that it’s not just the boys in the family who are cricket superstars, Mumma got it too. She too found the boundary 4 times, to get 19 runs from 13 balls.
Next, two of our newcomers, Gaylene and Shannon. Seeing Gaylene walking out to the crease, wearing the Bay shirt of James Snr, certainly welled up the tears in my eyes. With James Jnr at his coaching course, beautiful friend Sandra and the rest of the team were there to cheer her on. Both James Snr and James Jnr would have been so incredibly proud. Gaylene was sensational, getting bat on ball to every playable ball that came her way and impressing everyone with her running between the wickets. With wides and no-balls not re-bowled in the competition rules, Shannon was unlucky to face only 6 playable balls for her 13 balls faced. She took full advantage of those 6 balls, smashing 3 of them to the boundary.
Finally, Faith strode in. Faith has also been smashing the balls in the nets, so we were keen to see her let loose on the field. She didn’t disappoint, again finding the boundary 3 times in her 13 balls.
We completed our innings with only 2 dismissals for the team, and we were excited to get our opportunity in the field.
The whole team worked hard in the field, but there were a few notable mentions in both fielding and bowling. Our gorgeous Gee had an opportunity to play at a higher level this season, but chose to stay with her Bay family. We are so grateful, because we all learn so much from the way she plays and carries herself as a human. She was on fire in the field, hanging on to 3 catches and tumbling the stumps twice in her 2 overs. Shannon was another standout, keeping every ball on the pitch without a single extra in her overs, also taking 2 wickets. Emily and Teagan also kept the ball mostly on the pitch, but Emily learnt the hard way that the kids don’t chant “on the toes and off he goes” for nothing. On the pitch is one thing, but now we need to work on length and pace to avoid getting smashed all over the park with balls that the batters can easily hit.
The final shout out goes to our quiet achiever who just turns up and gets about her business. And get about it she did. Suggesting that we might need Gee behind the stumps when she was bowling was a good call. Sabreena was on fire and she achieved something in her first game that most cricketers don’t ever experience in an entire career of cricket, a hat-trick! Nobody was more proud than young son, Radin, eagerly watching and filming every ball from the sideline. Congratulations Sabreena!
We ended with 9 wickets and took a convincing win for our first game of the season. We had a blast as always and we’re counting down to the next game already. How good is cricket??
