Dale Rachow tons up
Premier League First Grade

Sorry I missed the first week but basically the boys bowled well early and had them 3/80 at first drinks then they had a partnership and built there score before Freddie Swann started bowling off spin and taking wickets. James Munro and Ben canning bowled really well with bangers also just doing what he does best. Big Nath hit his straps and we bowled them out for 268 which we thought was definately gettable. Ben and slats started off beautifully and we were 0/42 at th end of the first day.
Rolling into the second day we were extremely confident of chasing these runs but the cricket gods were not on our side as the kangaroos pierced our covers and water leaked onto the pitch overnight and left a pretty decent soft spot on a good length which played a reasonable part in their wickets.
We were batting well although our downfall was losing wickets on clumps then we would build partnership and then lose a couple quick again. Ben Houghton got a good 50 and a few of the other boys chipped in with some 20’s and 30’s but ultimately we fell short of what we thought at the start of the day was definately a winnable game.
Bit of a disappointing result but we are still making big strides forward just need to put everything together on the same day.
Big game this weekend and I’m sure we will put in a massive performance for our last home game of the season.

This Saturday, we’re proud to take part in Gold Coast Cricket’s Indigenous Round, recognising the deep cultural history of the Kombumerri people—the original Saltwater people of this region.
For over 20,000 years, the Kombumerri have cared for this land and its waterways, passing down stories, traditions, and knowledge through generations.
One such story tells of Gowanda, a hunter who became a dolphin, teaching his fellow dolphins to drive fish onto the shore to help his people—a reminder of the strong connection between land, sea, and community.
Cricket brings people together, and we’re honored to acknowledge and celebrate the rich heritage of the Kombumerri people this weekend

“Benji, I have a feeling that one of us is going to be a very happy man by the end of this over” (M. McPhee 22.02.2025). Day 2 of the Round 16 clash against Helensvale resumed with the home side taking the field at 5/86. With a lead of a single run, we assumed that the Helensvale boys would go hell-for-leather in an attempt to bat once and send us back in, in search of an outright victory.
Fresh from a warmup game of footy earlier in the morning, Jake Secombe took the new ball from the southern end. Jake was partnered by Hayden Kyle who picked up where he had left off the previous week. A few blasts through the covers and a dropped catch at slip saw the score move past 100 before Jake (1/19 from 6) caught an edge that was taken by Jamie Lenix at first slip (6-106). Harker (4/41 from 16) replaced Kyle while McPhee (2/27 from 9) replaced Secombe and the runs all by dried up as both Mitch and Travis applied the Bay Squeeze. There was a brief jump in the score as Travis’ new nemesis, the Helensvale skipper belted him for consecutive 6s which I very much enjoyed. ‘He didn’t get any of that fellas’, Harker sneered as the ball cleared the mid-on boundary by no less than 20metres.The pressure created by dots saw the home side slip from 7-129, 8-129, 9-159 before Hayden finished the job with figures of 3/57 from 12.4 and the total at 177 and 92 runs in front on first innings. This was a fantastic effort to dismiss such a strong side while the chips were down.
As Yuvi and Krish stormed out to the middle to get our defence against another outright defeat underway, we all wondered, ‘Is today the day? Is today the day the team nudges past 100 runs in a 2-day match?’. Yuvi was very much of the opinion that it was indeed that day. As Yuvi slapped the ball straight and through the covers the score raced passed 40 without loss. Krish too, looked far more confident this week as he worked the ball gracefully though the gaps and the pair even ran well between the wickets. Krish fell for 15(36) with the score at 41 and was replaced by Timmy while Yuvi carried on his merry way. “Just quietly fellas, Yuvi is on 45 from as many balls here’, I whispered as the boys grunted in disapproval at my potential jinx. ‘Sorry Yuvi!’ Sure enough, no less than an over after reading out his score, Yuvi fell to a rank, half-tracker to be caught at square leg with the score at 2-62. In a knock of 45(49), Yuvi managed to belt 9 boundaries and had really put the Helensvale boys on the back foot. “A few more runs on the scoreboard this week will allow me to play with more freedom”, I thought to myself before only lasting 13 deliveries to be caught playing another awful stroke. When Timmy fell not long after, it was looking like the all too familiar Bay Collapse would follow with the score at 4-72 and still 20 behind the Helensvale first innings score. ‘Oh ye of little faith’. The remainder of the day really showed that we are capable of putting together good totals as a team. While there was no large partnership in this innings, each of the players from numbers 5 to 11 in the order, played their part perfectly. Jed 10(32) and Mitch McPhee got our score past 100 before Jed was out. Understanding that runs were at a premium and weren’t simply batting for time, Mitch switched gears for a few overs and started belting the loose bowling. Benji taking the ball had Mitch licking his lips as he pointed out, “Benji, I have a feeling that one of us is going to be a very happy man by the end of this over”. Quote of the year that one! When Mitch departed for 36(50) with 6 fours and a monster 6, we still were only 30 in front with an hour or so left in the day. Jamie 7(27) departed LBW and the score was at 7-134. We were in tricky spot as we needed to bat time while also making sure to pick up any runs on offer so that if we did get dismissed, the Helensvale boys would need to chase a few. Thankfully, Travis and Matt Baker came together to save the day. I was unsure if Travis was in the opposition’s heads or mine as his antics drove both parties around the bend. Taking centre at the start of every over and counting to 11 for each member of the field really started to crush the Helensvale players. When Travis departed for 26(33) the job was all but done. Jake Secombe came in and made sure that it wouldn’t be a comfortable last 40mins by screeching ‘Eshay brah’ at the Helensvale keeper for no apparent reason before skying his first ball to cover, leaving Stevie and Matt Baker a few nail-biting overs to survive with the score ate 9-171. As the shadows lengthened and Matt Baker continued to carve balls through point and cover, a feeling came over the ground of ‘what are we doing here fellas?’. Half an hour left in the day meant that there would be max 3-4 overs or so for the Helensvale boys to try score almost 100 runs. ‘I know how to end this’, I thought to myself. Approaching the Helensvale skipper, it was apparent that the home side were chasing the 10th wicket in search of bonus points. With the Helensvale skipper not wanting to shake hands, I pointed out that if he wouldn’t, I’d simply declare and there would not be enough time for Helensvale to even come out to bat. ‘One more over’ he pleaded. Looking to Matt and the ever-eager Stevie, they confirmed that they would be happy to face out one last over. And that they did. Stevie finished with a resolute 0*(7) and Matt Baker played the knock of the day for his 35*(42).
What a great fightback boys! This shows that we really can post good scores at this level without someone having to go large. This was a real team performance with the bat to save this one. Yuvi, Krish, Jed, Mitch, Jamie, Travis, Baker, (not Jake) and Stevie Watson all stood up when the team needed them to and pitched in. Looking forward to next week away against Alberton on the back of this performance.

Excited to back at Sam Loxton 2, but without Grossy I turned to the old heads in the Team for some words of wisdom.
Win the toss was the best I got, which I proceeded to lose for the first time in 5 matches ☹ So into the field we went !
Opening with Hayden and Jake, we got off to a great start with a wicket in the first over, however for the first time in a long while we didn’t take our chances early with Broadbeach putting on 90 runs until a master stroke and we introduced Will Altass who bowled us back into the game with 3 for 24 (6) and helped by catches being held. We then proceed top restrict Broadbeach to only 140 at the 32 over. It was then that 3 dropped catches of Hamad would really hurt with around 70 runs coming off the next 8 overs, where we also dropped another 3 catches. I should add that Will Marron bowled well and finished with 2 for 37 (6) but should have had 3 at least.
Not a great day in the field but to be fair we felt confident we could get the runs.
Opening the Bat with Varum and Will Marron, just to try something different, proved to work until Varun was caught. J Deitz to the crease and he keep things ticking over but just before drinks was bowled and Gus went out to bat. Hoping to repeat the performance of two weeks back, he dug in with Will M and they got us to 100 before a mix-up saw W Marron run out ☹. It was looking really good at this stage, however after that things didn’t go well. However, 1st’s came over to cheer us up and buoyed by the positive attitude (basically sledging 😊) Gus worked his way to 42 before he was finally out and we made it to 155.
Man of the Match went to young Will Altass with 3 for 24 off 6 overs and although he dropped a sitter (not really) in the outfield putt in 100% all day.
Three highlights for me; The never give up attitude with the Bat and appreciated the support of 1st Grade (Thanks Guys) / W Marron’s batted was solid and Gus took advantage of his time at the crease / Jake Schultz and his 100% commitment to the game is a pleasure to captain.
2 games to go and I am looking forward to both games, even this late in the season I am still thoroughly enjoying the fantastic team morale.

We turned up to the swamp aka D’Arcy Doyle where we were greeted to a ground half under water at the northern end, hence the boundary’s were a little shorter than usual. The stand in skipper lost the toss & we were asked to field first. Their captain was in a bit of a hurry & didn’t mind the pace of Josh Foe, dispatching anything short to the short boundaries. With all bowlers going the distance early, a bright light turned up in the form of the Fridge, explaining he’d been working (whatever that is??). As soon as he walked onto the ground, I threw him the ball with immediate success, removing their skipper for 57, the score 1/109 off not many. Fridge then removed the other opener & the scoring slowed down, at one stage losing 4/10. The wickets kept falling until late in the innings when they got away a little, finally being dismissed for 235, a good team effort, considering their start. We probably should’ve only been chasing around 150 if not for an early dropped catch from the scorers partner, Col, I think his name is, luckily there was no other dropped catches!!! The pick of the bowlers was the Fridge finishing with 3/28, Conan 2/43, Duane 2/34 & we welcomed back the Rowville flyer, Matt Jackson & after conceding 17 from his first over, finished with a respectable 1/26. It was around this time the ex skipper decided to turn up with a bit of a grin, thinking the stand in skipper might have let this one slip! Our turn with the bat & it’s fair to say we were in a bit more of a hurry than them. We opened with Conan & the old chap. Conan departed early for a run a ball 13, that brought Luke to the crease, 9 balls later he copped one that kept low but not before belting 26 runs. Next in was Col & he immediately took a liking to all their bowlers smacking them to all parts, before being caught on the boundary for 52 from 30, which started a mini collapse, with the old fella going the same way for 39 & the Fridge but not before belting 19 from 5 balls. Josh Foe was next & he was then joined by his old man, Andy (the wall) Foenander. Josh went the same way as the 3 before him caught on the boundary for 20 off 11. Jacko then joined the wall, still with plenty to do & the 2 of them guided us home with 8 overs to spare, Andy pulling us out of the shit again, finishing with 46 from 45, Jacko finished with 9 not out. Another good day at the office, considering they dropped a couple of 3rd & 4th graders back. Mudgy dragged their sorry butts back to Carrara & we had a team meeting at the Wallaby Hotel to work out how to fit Bizza back into our team, Schuey explaining “you just can’t change a winning team”. Selection could be interesting in the coming weeks.... Cheers JH.

Community League Division 3

The team traveled across the highway this week to play against Helensvale Gold at Brockman Oval. After winning an interesting series of coin toss’s Chippa chose to bat first.
We commenced the innings with James and Harry opening the batting. Despite our hopes for a solid start, James was unfortunately dismissed early. Hamish then joined Harry at the crease; however, Hamish was also out cheaply while Harry began to establish his innings. Turab and Geoff W followed but were soon dismissed, leaving the captain Chris at the crease earlier than expected. Chris and Harry formed a productive 34-run partnership, playing an array of shots around the ground. Harry was eventually dismissed after scoring a commendable 31 off 55 balls, firmly establishing his position at the top of the order with this performance. At this juncture, we were at 5-55, in a challenging situation but confident in having strong batsmen still to come.
Dale and Chris performed admirably, aggressively confronting the bowlers. Both were nearing their half-centuries when Dale reached this milestone swiftly while Chris narrowly missed his, being dismissed for 48. This ended their impressive 93-run partnership. Geoff M then partnered with Dale, who continued to play impressively, consistently hitting boundaries. Dale soon reached 99* and was fortunate when he edged to the keeper, who dropped the catch. On the next ball, he achieved his first century for the Bay. This exceptional achievement was well deserved, following his performances over the past month. Dale and Geoff M added further runs until Geoff departed for 9. Arran then joined Dale for the remaining deliveries, taking our total to 218. Dale concluded his innings unbeaten on 108* from 63 deliveries. It was an exceptional batting display by the entire team, putting us in a strong position.
After posting a total of 218, we were confident in our position. We opened the bowling with Lachlan and Toby, who both maintained tight lines and applied early pressure. The conditions appeared favorable for spin, Hamish was introduced into the attack and bowled economically, conceding only 28 runs off his 6 overs. At the other end, Barry finished up with figures of 1/25 off 6 overs after taking an early wicket.
Toby was brought back into the attack from the other end and achieved impressive figures of 3/9 off 5 overs. As Helensvale's batting began to falter, Turab bowled a tidy spell and picked up a wicket. Noah was then introduced into the attack to expedite the conclusion of the innings. He took several quick wickets, supported by Arran at the other end, who also kept things economical and secured a wicket. Noah concluded the match by taking the final wickets, achieving hisbest figures in the senior competition, 4/10 off 3 overs, while Arran finished with 1/9 off 3 overs. Helensvale was bowled out for 88, resulting in a massive win for the 6th Grade Navy.
We picked up our biggest win of the season winning by 130 runs. A great performance from the team, with everyone contributing. We go again next week against the other Helensvale team, in hope of another win.
Thanks, Noah.

Running late for the first time Matt had to toss and he did the job by winning and batting. Jamie and myself opened up and we were off to a good start going at 4 ½ an over and getting to the drinks 0/86. We got to 102 before I got out for 46 and Darren came to the crease. Jamie 76x and Darren 31x batted through the rest of the innings to get us to 1/175, a good total. The start with the ball was not good and they raced to 0/55 from 6 overs. The bowling tightened up but that was when the catches started to go down. The ball kept dropping in the gaps and then more chances went down. Young Alex bowled very well again having a few chances go down. Deepak was the pick of the bowlers 0/12 from his 6 overs. Kaeleb unlucky not have a wicket due to a controversial call 0/25 from 6 overs was the next best. Unfortunately with so many chances going down we did not get a wicket and they passed us none down with 3 overs to spare.
