Senior Women's Match Reports 3/11/2024
Halloween Edition
Senior Women’s Navy Sapphires
ITS GAME DAY… The sun was shining bright but hot, and the wind was a gentle breeze compared to our last game which was like windy Wellington! The girls were excited to play ball. Firstly we would like to say a massive WELCOME to Jade to the Navy team. Not only did she debt in her first ever cricket game, she stepped up to wicket keep for 17 overs and did a fantastic job doing so, using her body to stop Tambo successful hitting the boundary.
We kindly ask Tambourine if we could please bat first to ensure Beck got to have a bat before the mad pre game/ lunch rush at Beck kitchen, in which they were happy too. Beck and Shana took to the pitch as our opening batters. Shana was at the crease facing the first ball of the over, hit the top edge straight up into the air, lucky Tambo was were still warming up and dropped the catch! Settling her nerves Shana shock it off and gained a few sneaky single and smashed a boundary in her last over. Beck was up and faced her first 3 balls as Wides/NB. Next Ball Beck thought “nope have it back” smashing it straight back to the bowler, in which she dropped it! Shana was back with a new bowler, once again edged it straight into the air only to be dropped again, Phew. Shana finished 9 runs from 14 balls. Becks next over saw her gain some singles and on her 2nd final ball found the boundary to finish on 20 runs from 14 balls.
Next up to the crease was Nic and Kel. First ball for Kel wide, 2nd ball - All Swing no ding, but Nic had her running as the keeper missed the ball. Kel’s 3 ball faced hit the edge of the bat straight into the air only to be caught by the keeper. Geez looks like Mumma Schultz is keeping with the sons tradition of cricket 🦆’s.
Nic was up and the look of determination and focus was evident smashing her new over ball for a 4. “That’s how it’s done Jay” Nic yelled out to her Hubby. Nic was like a hawk watching the ball and at every or any opportunity she was running gaining those sneaky singles. Finishing our overs on Kel 14 runs from 13 balls and Nic 11 runs from 13 balls.
Out came our mother daughter duo. Shay was pumped and ready to roll. First ball dot, 2nd ball found a gap and ran 2. Next Ball Shay was looking around once the ball was in her sight she smashed it straight through the gap getting 4 but almost hitting over the boundary. We then hit 10 overs and had a quick drink break. Nunya was up, facing her first ball finding the gap hitting the boundary.Next ball straight over the top of square leg “RUN Shay -TWO”. By now the wind was starting to pick up but Nunya was successful at hitting the balls thrown at her. These pair were little pocket rockets. Shay found the boundary again in her last over finishing on 24 runs from 14 balls and Nunya found it twice gaining 8 runs on 2 balls to end her innings on 26 runs from 14 balls. Outstanding effort
In came our debut player Jade and Kirst. Jade’s hubby Matt and daughter were there to cheer her on. With Jade trying to settle the nerves and find her feet her first 3 balls were dots. Rolling her shoulders back she reset. Next ball poor Jade was caught therefore was given 🦆. “Welcome to the club” yelled out Kel. Up was Kirst, clearly she was comfortable and smashing singles for her first 3 balls faced, then a massive 4 hitting the boundary. With Both Jade and Kirsten finding their rhythm and gaining singles. In one over Kirst was able to find the boundary twice finding her a total of 21 runs from 13 balls and Jade successful running singles in her last over 6 runs from 13 balls
I came our scorer and final batter Mel. Keeping her eye on the ball and for her first over was all dot balls. In came a new bowler and Mel found it hard to put bat to ball with wide after wide given. But always found an opportunity to run a sneaky single finishing our batting innings with 156 runs and 15 extras.
As we hit the field to do our bowling realising we had 7 players now as Beck was multitasking in the kitchen. Jade opened our bowling while Nic took on the keeper role. Jade was looking good, ball was on the pitch and Tambo were only gaining singles. On Jades second over bowled straight down the pitch only to have the ball returned to her and caught the ball “This is redemption ladies” said Jade as we were all excited for her. Next up was Nic, I tell you this lady has been practicing so much in the nets and it showed! Bowling straight down the pitch only to have it returned at full speed to her, unfortunately dropping the catch. Tambo looking for the gaps and they successfully found them one after another after another. Jade finished on 1/49 off of 3 overs and Nic 1/15 off of 3 overs.
Beck was back and taking the field, with Nunya up and bowling an absolute beauty each ball on the pitch. In came Shay, geez I’d hate to face her balls. With Tambos captain in Shay bowled the perfect hard and fast ball right on the batters toes only to hold the ball and take the catch. Woo Hoo… Shays bowling was outstanding and finished on 1/9 off of 2 overs, Nunya 0/26 off of 3 overs. Tambo were just to good at finding the gaps or were just big hitters. Beck must get her bowling skills from Trav, she bowled 0/18 off of 3 overs. Nunya and Shay were both ninja’s sliding and saving serveral balls from making the boundary.
Kirst bowled 0/17 off of 2 overs and Kel 0/20 off of 2 overs, with Shana 0/16 off of 2 overs. Jade put her whole body on the line so many times to stop Tambo making the boundary. I think we might need keeping pads for the future 😂
The whole team worked really hard in the field, but unfortunately it just wasn’t our day. Things we are going to work on for our next game is correct fielding techniques, getting down on one knee and hands to one side.
Final Score - Runaway Bay 4/156 v Tambourine 3/190 🏆
Lastly I’d like to THANK Trav for setting up the frog box so our family and friends were able to watch. Coach Cole (Fossil )for umpiring the entire game then running over to Sam Lox 1 to hit the crease for his own game! Huddy and Chippa for square leg umpiring the entire game also. But most of all MEL. Mel offered to sit off the game in our bowling innings to score for us to ensure our runs/ wickets were true and correct.
Our next game is Sunday, 17th November. Navy Sapphires are back on Sam Loxton 3 playing against Helensvale Purple.
FYI - Our team has a little bit of friendly household competition happening! 😜

Senior Women’s Pink
Match Report: Broadbeach vs. Runaway Bay Pink 5-233 v 15-135 Runaway Bay Pink faced off against Broadbeach in a challenging match that saw Broadbeach setting a solid target of 233. Despite a spirited effort, Runaway Bay Pink concluded their innings with a total of 135. Bowling highlights included strong performances from Gee and Marnie, each taking a wicket across their three overs. Emily showed impressive improvement, conceding just 23 runs in her three overs, standing out as the most improved bowler of the day. Faith, although facing a tough run with 43 runs scored off her three overs, she did hold onto a catch in the field on the final ball of the innings. Sabreena, Shannon, and Carol each made valuable contributions with a wicket apiece from their two overs. Gaylene also impressed, bowling economically with only 15 runs scored off her two overs. Facing Broadbeach’s bowlers was a new experience, with their fast pace leaving many of the ladies sporting bruises come Monday morning. Carol was a standout, scoring 16 runs off 15 balls and retaining her wicket. Shannon bore the brunt of Broadbeach’s attack, earning more bruises than she cares to count, while Marni, Gaylene, Faith, and Emily all held their ground against the fast-paced opposition. The highlight of the innings was a fantastic 55-run partnership between Sabreena and Gee, with Gee reaching a high total of 37 runs off 16 balls. A huge thank you to the McQueen family for umpiring and scoring, as well as to all the incredible families who came out to be our cheer squad! Your support on the sidelines made all the difference. While Broadbeach ultimately took the win, Runaway Bay Pink demonstrated resilience and determination. With this experience under their belts, they’re eager to bring a stronger game next time!
