Gereanna and Cathy pile on the runs for Pink
Senior Women’s Navy Sapphires

It was a hot humid Sunday morning and we had decided to start early, the sun was beating down as Sonia walked in to do the toss. Having won the toss we elected to bat and the day began. With Kel as our fearless Skipper heading in to face the first ball along with Sarah, we were all full of excitement and anticipation of the days events. Coomera stepped up to the plate, with Emily as their first bowler and she bowled what appeared to be a brilliant ball with Kel believing she was out the very first knock of the game, however with the umpire calling a clear no ball as she had stepped well over the line, Kel made Emily pay very next ball with a brilliant boundary and as always she stepped up to the plate again as our gutsy skipper. But the nerves were there and Skipper was run out by Helene and later bowled by Emily who finally got her man, or woman that is. Kel and Sarah put on a brilliant partnership before their balls were up, both reaching the boundary and laughing at the many antics on the field. Next up was Nik and Shana, Nik had been waiting all week for the day to come and Shana, well Shana was firing with her batting as it has increased from strength to strength. Nick was a bit slower this week but Shana matched last weeks effort with her total but a little bit faster this time, getting 2 runs a ball while Nik kept her on track keeping the singles flowing scoring a run a ball and insuring Shana had the strike. Next in was Beck and Jade, Beck now played the role of the single scorer while Jade did her best to reach the boundary and scored 2 brilliant fours, this is Jade‘s best innings scoring 17 off just 11 balls, our batting was strong and our girls looked on fire. Next stop was mother daughter duo Nunya and Shae, and this duo never fail to impress, Nunya started slow or so it seemed, but then she began to tee off with four massive boundaries Nunya was our top scorer for the day making 25 off just 11 balls and Shay wasn’t far behind showing everyone why she is the amazing young athlete we all know and love, scoring 16 off just 11, with that partnership being one of our best making 41 between them. Then came our second gamer Sonia and our beautiful Kirsten, who we can all count on for that beautiful smile lifting us all up, Sonia was super nervous but she still fired making 10 off 11, however it wasn’t Kirsten‘s day today and the infamous Emily from Coomera got another wicket but Kirsten didn’t let it get her down Alicia steamed in Kirsten set her eyes on the ball. She smashed it back towards Alicia unfortunately Alicia, who plays for Queensland in a representative side, managed to take a brilliant catch off her own bowling, and this was not the last we’d see of the experienced cricketing prowess of Alicia. Seeing Kirsten get 12 off 11 and losing two wickets. Last but not least was Mel who hasn’t played since last year due to injury and rain was excited to be part of the team again but nervous, Kirsten who had already faced all her balls stepped up to the plate as the runner and reminded Mel that she had this, Mel faced wide after wide but managed to score 11 off 11 and we were left with what appeared to be a strong total 158 runs was nothing to be sneezed at especially when we only lost four wickets for the game. The wickets were essential, as we knew we weren’t up against just an average team. Jade and Nik opened the bowling, with Jade showing us what all her practice in the nets had done, Jade bowled tight and bowled two overs for just seven runs. Her best figures since she began playing, and definitely something to take to the table along with her batting to discuss with her husband Matt, not 1 boundary was conceded by Jade, Then she headed to the other end to keep. Nik bowled well as always, bowling two overs none for 16 and only conceding the one boundary. Shae bowled well, two overs one for 14 and her straight ball tore through knocking over the stumps completely of McKenzie. Not to be shown up by her daughter, Nunya was the pick of the bowlers. Bowling two overs for 12 with two wickets, both of them bowled, her full and straight balls tore through the batsmen with her getting Sydney and McKenzie. Sonia bowled tight, another to only concede one boundary, she finished two overs for just 12, and after being injured after just the first over most of us wouldn’t have bowled the second but being the Skipper‘s big sister Kel
was keen to boss her around and told her to hurry up and get in there and bowl. For Sarah, Beck, Kel and Shana, their second over was the toughest with their strongest bat, Alicia coming in, showing again while she was selected to represent Queensland, but the girls didn’t let it faze them and bowled well, Sarah and Beck both bowled well, both conceding just two boundaries each with Sarah bowling her two overs none for 20 and Beck her 2 none for 17. Kel finished one for 23 off her overs, with full and straight again the flavour of the day bowling Helene, Shana was on pace again, taking one for 30 off her 2 overs and giving Jade the only catch of the day for the bay girls. Taking five wickets it was a tough finish and we faced the strongest batsmen yet, one that is well and truly above our level of Cricket. But it was fast paced and a friendly game, with the bay girls making Coomera well and truely earn their win we fell just short scoring a total of 183 to Coomera’s 199.

It was a hot and sunny morning when we arrived at Dux oval to meet the Queens Womens Team for our match. Having lost the toss we were sent in to bat with Gaylene and myself taking the field first. Gaylene got caught out and I got run out but I managed to hit my first FOUR and then a 2nd one much to my delight. Faith and Gee then paired up and were a smashing success with a Four and a mighty SIX for Faith and Gee top scoring for the Pinkies with 4 FOURS and 5 SIXES and a total of 54. Both Faith and Gee left the field without having lost a wicket. Tegan and Emily took to the field with Tegan also scoring a FOUR and 1 run out whilst Emily also scored a FOUR and left the field without losing a wicket. Cath took the field with Tegan whilst Tegan finished her batting and then Emily went back out to run with Cath as we were a man down and Cath followed in Gee’s footsteps with scoring a total of 50 runs which included 3 FOURS and 4 SIXES and both Gee and Cath earning a bar tab for their inspiring effort. Cath also not losing in wicket whilst batting. We finished with 190 runs having lost a total of 5 wickets. We then opened the bowling with Gee who bowled 3 overs and took 3 wickets, one of which was a jiggly piggly catch by Emily but she held on to that ball and another that was clean bowled and 16 runs scored against her bowling. Cath bowled 3 overs with 3 wickets also, one being caught behind by Gee and with 13 runs scored against her. Emily bowled 3 overs and bowled out a batter and having 32 runs then I followed on from Emily and the Queens players smashed me around the oval with me not getting a wicket and having 54 runs scored against me. Gaylene bowled 3 overs and took down a wicket when the Queens player hit her stumps and had 32 runs scored against her bowling. Teagan also bowled 3 overs with 32 runs scored and Faith bowled 2 overs for 40 runs. Sadly, the Queens ladies were too strong for us on the day and whilst we managed to take 10 wickets we were left with a score of 5/240 narrowly defeated on the day with Queens finishing with a final score of 10/244. Pink ladies would like to give a massive shoutout to Kelly and Shay from our Navy sisters who came along to cheer us on and then stepped up after having finished their game to take the field to help out as we were a man down. Kelly I hope your shin is feeling better. A massive effort was put in by one and all and a few of us left the field as walking wounded but at least we were walking.
