Navy Sapphires just fall short

Senior Women’s Navy Sapphires

I’d like to extend a massive shoutout to Soni & Kirst for volunteering to play with our sister team, Pink Diamonds when they were short a few players. Your willingness to step in and help out embodies the spirit of Teamwork and generosity that makes our ladies community so special and to ensure both teams were able to get on the field for a game. As your skipper I truely appreciate your dedication and spirt for being such incredible team players. THANK YOU! The Bay really turned on the weather for our 9am start against Helensvale. Beno was sent out to do the bat toss with the all mighty women’s coordinator from Helensvale, Anneka. After discovering we only had 6 players at that time, we chose to bat first to allow the rest of the team to arrive. Opening the batting were the one and only Nic and Jade. Nic started off strong and was making runs from her very first ball. Jade was ready and raring to go, smashing a boundary shot in her first over. Hubby Matt arrived just in time to see her hit her 4! With a change of bowlers unfortunately Jade played a shot right into Aisa hands. Nic undeterred by the wicket, continued to play aggressively, running between the wickets and timing her shots beautifully finding the boundary several times in her last over. Jade 15 runs off 15 balls, Nic 17 runs off 15 balls. Next in was Skipper Kel & Sarah (aka - Beno) Kel leaving my mark on the game, unleashing my tiredness on my batting, finding the boundary for my first four balls. Beno was at the crease with purpose and eagerness. Looking to see where the gaps were. Her first few balls was a gentle delivery, dot, dot, wide. Beno’s sidestep the pressure watching the ball carefully as it sails past making a sneaky singles. After a few little wider balls, Beno taking a calculated step, reaching for the wider balls making the poor skipper run those sneaky singles again. Finishing on a high Sarah smashed a four on her finial ball finishing her on 14 off 15 balls. Kel 22 off 15 balls. It was time for the mother daughter duo to hit the crease! Wow and what an absolute little weapon Shay was. Outshining her mother by finding the boundary not once, not twice but three times! Shay finishing as our highest batter 28 runs from 15 balls. Good old Janet tho, faced a steady bowler, having a to run those pesky singles. Finally after a thumbs up from Nunya she was able to smash the ball just hitting the boundary line falling short of a six. Nunya 15 Runs from 15 balls. Finally Our “Naughty 40s” birthday girl came to the pitch feeling a little dusty along side with our beautiful Mel. Shana’s batting effort was as steady and effortless. Running singles while dodging the pressure like a seasoned pro. When she finally unleashed her inner dynamo, those boundaries flew like they were auditioning for a role in a blockbuster! Mel stepped up to the crease like a gladiator entering the arena, ready to take on Helensvale's all-rounder Belle with newfound confidence. With a steady hand and a grin, she secured six runs, proving that sometimes a brief hiatus only sharpens a player's edge! When it was our turn to field, the Sapphires turned the oval into a fortress of fun and finesse! Nic unleashed her weapon of an arm, making it clear that 14 runs over 3 overs was the equivalent of a polite suggestion rather than an invitation to score. Every time the ball soared her way, you could practically hear the opposing batsmen reconsidering their life choices—who needs a boundary when Nic's on the prowl? With energy levels higher than a six over the rope, we fielded like a well-oiled machine, leaving the opposition wondering if they'd accidentally wandered into a comedy show instead of a cricket match! Jade's impressive bowling and outstanding wicketkeeping were so on point that I half-expected her to start charging admission for the show! With her skills, we were covered for the entire game—if only we could bottle her talent and sell it as the ultimate cricketing potion! Kel's bowling was on point, with every delivery hitting the mark and keeping the batsmen on their toes. Their noticeable improvement has not only elevated their game but also given the team a significant boost in confidence! Shay blitzed through the field like a whirlwind, making it look easier than a Sunday stroll, while her leg bowling had the batsmen ducking for cover. The young gun stepped up without a hint of being out of place, showcasing some serious pace that kept Helensvale wondering if they were facing a cricket match or a speed trap! Nunya stepped up to bowl with a casual demeanor that suggested nothing fazed her, making it look like just another day at the park. She blindsided the Helensvale batting lineup, delivering an impressive nine dot balls that left them utterly perplexed! Unfortunately it wasn’t our day Helensvale taking the win by 8 Runs

Senior Women’s Pink

Thankful again for sunny skies, the Bay Pink ladies were as eager as ever to get in another game of cricket. We were short a couple this week, due to injury, so 2 of our Navy sisters walked up the hill from Loxton 3 to help out the Pinks. Big shout out to Aunty Kirst and Sister Soni! Having said that, Faith showed up with only 1 hand in action, having injured her right hand during the week. “I had a go batting with just my left hand in the nets, so I think I’ll be ok!” What a trooper Faith 😊.

Coomera were keen to bat first as they also had a couple short and had fill-ins arriving later. We were happy to oblige and we took the field first. We had played the Coomera ladies before, narrowly going down in our last contest, so we knew it would probably be tight again. As expected, they batted well, with their big hitter, Alicia, top-scoring with 37. Blowaway Bay was living up to its name up on Loxton 4, making for difficult bowling conditions with the light indoor cricket ball we use. Gee and Cath were our only bowlers to take wickets this game, with some of our usual straight shooters having some uncharacteristic wides in the figures, bowling in the challenging conditions.

Our turn to bat and we opened with the Smash Sisters, Gee and Cath. As always, both were at ease finding the boundary, even through the lush outfield on Loxton 4. They got us off to a flyer. Super-sub, Aunty Kirst was another standout with the bat, smashing them all over the field to score 24 from her 15 faced. Cath, Aunty Kirst, and Marnie were our only batters to not see Bairdy’s finger point to the sky this round.

We came close with runs off the bat, but unfortunately we lost 7 wickets as opposed to just 2 for the Coomera ladies. Another great game played in the right spirit, with the win going to the Coomera ladies.

We can’t wait for the final round to finally play with our Navy sisters at home 😊.
