Seniors 17 & 18/1/2026
First Grade

The 1st grade were at home against a strong Mudgeerabra side.
The fixture earlier on in the season ended in the match abandoned due to the weather. We won the toss for the first time in 9 games and elected to bat first.
Unfortunately we found ourselves 2 down early which brought Jaydn and Yas to the crease. The pitch wasn’t easy to get urself in on and they battled hard both playing some lovely strokes. Jaydn looked excellent before being dismissed to there off spinner leaving us 80-3. James Stirling came to the crease and with yas they should lots of patience and run hard in the middle overs until yas was dismissed for a well made 71 runs. Unfortunately, James was also dismissed shortly after for 27. With wickets in hand and a late surge of runs required we sent in Jawid who was playing his first game for the 1’s this season. He hit 4 sixes, 1 which landed parallel to the nets to take him to 33 of 18 deliveries. The tail wagged at the end taking us to 234. Suranga and Travis opened the bowling and kept it very tidy putting pressure on the opening batsmen. Suranga took an early one which was well deserved. Ben canning replaced him and bowled his best spell yet. Ben canning ended up with 1 - 12 off 5 overs. They created a partnership of 41 runs before trav broke the partnership and after that wickets began to tumble from the bowling of yas and Monib. There were some excellent catches from yas and ben canning just before the weather and bad light came in and brought an end to the game. An excellent performance by the boys to take us to 3rd in the Ladder.

Lucy Logan was just seven-years-old when her Mum signed her up to Blasters at the Bay.
She does all the little and right things to precision. And this week, the score finally took care of itself.
Lucy flew to Tasmania to take her place in the Queensland Under 16's team. A dream she has held close since that very first match.
How can you not be romantic about cricket?
We're all proud of you. Go get 'em, Luce

2nd Grade

A week of stormy, hot and sticky weather preceded the Bay 2s first away clash of 2026 as the boys travelled southward down the M1 to take on Mudgeeraba at Neilson’s Road. The top of the table clash offered yet another opportunity for the Bay 2s to well and truly break from the peloton of sides in the top 6 of the Premier Division 2 competition. Cloudy overheads did nothing to dull the temps. The thought of fielding first coupled with the knowledge of the opposition captain’s 130*(60 odd) the previous week, had me thinking it was a ‘bat first’ kind’a day. Elect to bat I did, and as the coin came down in our favour, I signalled to our opening paid to ‘put em on’.
Fresh off a gritty performance against Helensvale, Nath Proctor paired with Timmy Murdoch who returned to the side after a short stint in the 1s. Nath 4, (6) crunched a cut shot in the second over of the day to get the scoring under way but sadly sliced the very next delivery straight to gully. Jack Hocart replaced Nath and together with Timmy the pair put on a much-needed 61 run partnership before Timmy scooped one to cover for 26(50). Tom Gossett replaced Tim as Hoc did his thing by finding gaps and pushing the field. With wickets in the sheds and not too many runs on the board Jack sought to force the issued and fell playing an uncharacteristically rash stroke for 29(55). As Austin Billing strode to the crease, we had just 19 overs remaining and with our score still under 90, there was plenty of work to be done. Just as Tommy Gossett looked like he could really put the foot down, he too was caught while looking to hit the cover boundary for 42(46). As Aus continued to gesticulate, shadow bat and occasionally punch himself, Sam Heathwood looked to steady the ship at the other end before Aus too was out in a similar fashion to his predecessors - caught on the boundary looking to up the run rate for 16(24). This worrying trend of getting in and getting out continued throughout our innings as Sam 9(16) and myself 14(19) failed to cash in on starts while Lucas Frazer snicked off early for 2(5). A brief flourish from the tail thanks to Mitch Bailey’s 12(13) saw the Bay 2s limp to a sub-par total of 9/174. Notable mention to Stevie Watson played his first innings of the grade season to register red ink with 0,(3). In what had been a very stop-start innings, albeit in oppressive heat, the batters had never looked like going big and my suspicion was that against an opposition with some fire power up the top of the order, we needed a minimum of 200 runs to feel safe.
With the light dimming, the clouds closing in and the humidity skyrocketing, our task was pretty straight forward. Dismiss Harry Maher early and we were odds on to take the points. Things got off to a shaky start as the fourth ball of Stevie’s opening over disappeared over mid-wicket into the creek for an enormous 6. In an act of true compassion and sportsmanship, the opposing skipper offered the Bay 2s a brand-new RJR ball to replace the one just lost which had only lived to see 4 competitive deliveries – An offer I could not refuse. George Edney took the ball from the southern end and with the short boundary at cover, looked to keep the ball out of ‘the arc’ which he did, with the exception of one delivery that was dispatched over the fence. Fed up with all the run scoring, scoring Stevie ‘Weekly’ Watson (1/23 from 4) struck the pad of Munson to send him on his way and we felt like we might be in business. George (1/46 from 7) snicked off Mudgee’s first drop batter just a few overs later to another screamer taken in the slips by Lucas Frazer and when Timmy Murdoch gobbled up a catch at point from Tommy Gossett’s bowling, the Bay 2s began to believe with the score at 3/59. The following tight, disciplined overs put us in a position to push for points before the weather closed in. However disciplined a team’s bowling, it all means nothing without the support of the field. With one dropped catch after another, heads began to drop as the bitter sting of regret nagged while we felt the game slowly slipping away. Despite having dragged the run rate back within manageable realms thanks to Tommy Gossett (1/27 from 8), Mitch Bailey (0/17 from 4) and Jack Hocart (0/10 from 2), it was never going to be enough as Harry wheeled away past 50 and into the 70s. So it was that with thunder and lightning increasingly nearer, the umpires escorted both sides from the field. With Mudgee’s score at 3/140 from just 28 overs, well ahead of the Duckworth Lewis calculations and few prospects of recommencement of play, both captains shook hands and agreed that the home side were the victors.
This one left a bit of a sting for me fellas. Lots of our batters got starts but checked out early rather than digging in. In what were trying conditions, our top 7 highlighted that the pitch was true and the bowling (largely made up of medium pacers), didn’t cause too many issues. 25 runs more for a par score of around 200 and even with the dropped catches, we might have still been in with a shout. I thought our bowling and field placement was probably as good as it might have been but really this result boiled down to the 3 dropped catches of their skipper who effectively won them the game on his own. No catch is easy, but we cannot expect to beat the best sides in the competition with repeat lapses in the field. Next week we return to Loxton to take on what undoubtedly will be a very strong Palm Beach.
Patrick.

3rd Grade

3rd grade v Surfers Paradise
We travelled to Mudgee to play Surfers Paradise on that stinking hot Saturday, lost the toss and were told to have a bowl which I thought was fine by us as we thought a storm was brewing out west, Cam Davis and Josh opened up With Cam bowling unbelievably well with help from an excellent catch from Josh in gully bowling 5 overs 2 wickets for 7 runs which got us off to a great start Josh at the other end bowled well, It took Surfers till the 7th over to score a run, Will Altass came on after Cam and bowled really well putting in 110 percent on that scorching hot day bowling 7 overs straight 1-26 with 2 maidens and Jake Shultz at the other end 5 overs 1-26 These 2 young lads really put in for the team bowling through the hottest part of the day where they could of easily given up really stood up for us,
Jared and our new leg spinner Kunal came on and cleaned up the tail kunal 3-17 off his 5 and jared 2-21 off 5.2 we had surfers bowled out for 124 off 33.2 over, we had pressure on the opposition the whole innings with only 3 of there batsman getting over 20,
We could not of done any of that if it wasn’t for our club matriarch Kelly Shultz running waters every wicket a big thanks to her.
We opened the Batting with Brendo and Josh knowing the wicket was playing a bit slow we needed to get on the front foot rotating strike was going to be key, Josh was first to leave us for 22 off 60 which bought in Hamza he left us for 12 off 24 Bartlett was next in to join Brendan Roberts who had just tweaked his quad mussel on 45 and decided he can only run singles and the rest were going to be boundaries both boys had red ink with bartlett 10 not out off 23 and Brendo in great form following his 100 the week before 68 not out off 80 balls, We chased Surfers total in the 31st over winning by 8 wickets and still undefeated this season. Player of the day Brendon Roberts Player of the day Kelly Shultz

Match report 4's Navy
Bloody clarky calls heads & loses the toss & we get sent in on an astro pitch that would give the mcg a run for its money..
There isnt alot of positives in the batting
1 - 4
4 - 8
7 - 46..
Then Matty & Bradley put on a 50 run partnership to get it to 8 - 96.. We got skittled for 98 Only 2 scores above 10 Matty 48 Wides 10 Rest isnt pretty ha ha
Bowling
Clarky lets out his inner pom & bowls first ball to ruddy in slips.. 4 balls later does what he does best & gets his first pole. Then they let rip & put on 50 runs before the wickets started to fall.. Clarkys 3rd over he finally went bang bang & then he got his 4th in the next over & his 5th one in his 5th over.. In between all of that Wahab got a couple in there & bowled with some decent heat.. Pretty bloody proud of the boys to get rolled for 98 to keep there heads up & stay in the game for as long as we did but lost by 3 wickets...

4th Grade Orange

Rd 14 4s orange
This week Orange was at home facing our round 1 opponent Helensvale who clearly got the best of us back then, so we were very keen to make up for that one.
Helensvale won the toss and sent us into bat,
We had some changes to our side this week, so we went with a very young opening pair in Noah McQueen 16 yrs old and Harry Rachow 15 in his first game in the 4s,
The boys got off to a solid start putting together a fantastic 35 run opening partnership, young Harry was showing his immense talent as he seamlessly fitted in to the level playing some fantastic shots,
Unfortunately Noah(4)was bowled in the 10th over by a very good yorker,
The future then meet the old school as 2 different generations came together with Col Joining harry at the wicket, the generations certainly meshed well together as boys took the score along to 60 with Harry bringing up his 50 before unfortunately edging a good ball to the keeper to end a brilliant debut innings of 50 off 43 balls 7 4s & 1 6, the kid certainly has a very bright future,
Another of our inclusions for this game was Angus Richardson who joined Col and set about putting a good score on the board,
The partnership was going well until Gus unfortunately received a blow that no batsman wishes to receive, he wasn’t feeling well so had to retire, he was replaced by Wolfy but his stay was short after he was caught by a ridiculously unlucky catch when he slashed at a wide ball that flew between the keeper and first slip and looked like it was going to fly away for 4 but the keeper threw out his glove just managing to knock the ball behind 1st slip who somehow took an incredible 1 handed catch,
Gus was feeling better and returned to the crease, Col was at this stage try to lift the run rate and taking it to the bowling hitting a couple of 6s before charging at one to many unfortunately missing it and unable to reach back due to his shoulder injury and was stumped for a well made 47 off 42 4 4s & 2 6s, 4/132
This brought the other of our young gun inclusions in Quaid Rogers just 14 yrs old, Quaid played very well making 11 off 18 including hitting a big 6,
Jamie joined Gus for the last over and the boys got us to 5/167 with Gus finishing unbeaten on 45 off 64 with 5 4s,
At the change of innings we thought we had a decent score if we bowled well and took our chances,
We opened the bowling with a couple of our experienced campaigners in Kane Taylor & Stephen Wolf and the tight early bowling worked with us grabbing our first wicket at 7,
With the dangerous Aj who had slayed us rd 1 for 100 off 43 balls, still at the wicket we needed, the first of which came when Noah cane on to bowl knocking over Aj and giving us a big boast, Noah continued his fantastic year with the ball with yet another great spell,
The boys working really hard to keep the pressure on and put the squeeze on the Helensvale batsmen as we kept ourselves in the game having them 2/86 off 18 overs halfway through their innings,
Jack Castle came on to bowl after the break with immediate impact getting their experienced batter out for 41 caught by Wolfy on the boundary this was a far easier chance then the one handed catch of the century that Wolfy had almost brought down a few overs earlier,
Quaid was brought on the other end for is first bowl in 4s cricket and to say he had an impact was the understatement of the year, taking a return catch for his first wicket the very 1st ball!! And then getting his 2nd wicket off his 6th ball with a great catch to Will Secombe, great start young fella, 5/91 and it was game on and we were right amongst it, the very next over Jack grabbed his 2nd wicket 6/95.
Followed next over by Quaid’s 3rd 7/96 and we were right on top but with plenty of overs remaining we still needed to take wickets,
They needed another 71 off 14 overs and we needed 3 wickets,
They managed to put on a partnership for the next wicket that took them to 128 before Jamie Lennix managed to draw a false shot with Jack taking the catch,
This brought Helensvale’s captain Aaron Healy to the wicket and his experience proved a big problem for us, Jamie and Jack paired up for another wicket, 9/137 and this was going down to the wire but unfortunately as has been the case a few times this year we struggled to finish off our work and Helensvale managed to get themselves over line with a few balls to spare,
Considering how comprehensively we were beaten by this team in rd 1 this was a sign of the improvement we have made as a team especially our younger players which is what we are about,
Our catching was a big improvement this week taking some great catches under pressure which certainly helped us,
We used 9 bowlers in the innings all bowling well and tried their hearts out,
Quaid 3 ov 3 for 8
Jack 5 ov 2 for 11
Jamie 4 ov 2 for 36
Noah 6 ov 1 for 27
Kane 6 ov 0 for 17
Harry 3 ov 0 for 4
James 0 for 14
Will 0 for 22
As much as the result was disappointing the effort certainly wasn’t.
Today was a glimpse into the future of the bay and from what we saw it is very bright, thanks again for all the support and we will see you all again next week GO BAY!!

5th Grade

Round 14 & we find ourselves in a precarious position against an improving Surfers team with a few of our best absent. If it wasn’t bad enough with Brad, Snitty, & Conan all unavailable, Cappy failed to show up & Grossy done his shoulder with the first ball of the game. Our new & improved skipper won the toss & decided to put the opposition in with grey skies above. We were lucky enough to have the services of the Foenander triplets, aquired in the mid season draft which made the blow of our unavailabilities a little easier. We opened with Grossy & Schuey, Grossy powered through with half a shoulder, clearly in some pain. Schuey bowled his best spell of the year removing their first 3, one a sharp catch from our stand in keeper, Critto, whos retirement lasted 5 days! Josh was thrown the ball next & I think he was out to impress with his promotion to 5th grade bowling a quick & fiery spell not only the batters shitting themselves but also the keeper & slips. He bowled without luck, the opposition not good enough to nick any but i dont think we would’ve seen it anyway. Fridge & Duane bowled us to the break with Surfers in no hurry on a very small ground with a quick outfield, crawling to 3/101 at drinks. After drinks Azza was introduced into the attack & the wickets began to fall, removing the next 3 with Nate grabbing the last wicket. The wicket takers, Schuey 3/28, Azza also 3/28 & Nate 1/14. Surfers ending their 36 overs on 7/201. Our turn to bat & like a magician, our ex skipper shows up out of nowhere declaring “i’ll open the batting. So Bizza & Jamie strode out to the crease & showed a bit more intent than them before Bizza smacked a low drive straight to mid off, caught for 27 off 15 with 3 fours & 2 sixes, the opening partnership yielding 49 in 3 overs. We welcomed Luke back after his injury & he got straight into his innings combining for a 54 run partnership before Jamie was the next to fall for 39 off 29 with 5 fours & 2 sixes. Josh was next in & next out but not before belting a quickfire 45 from 17 including five 6’s, four of them in a row. Azza was next contributing 3 & Nate also scored 3 before Fridge finished the slaughter with 2 not out leaving Luke the not out batsman on 64 from 34 balls with 10 fours & 2 sixes. We passed their score in the 17th over, a boost to our NRR, a great outcome considering our unavailabilities, no shows & injuries.
Cheers JH.

6th Grade

We travelled to Ormeau for our home game against Alberton. We won the toss and decided to bat. Sam and James opened the batting, and we quickly learned that the pitch was not playing true. The ball was both ballooning off the surface and staying low, which was so bizarre being a synthetic pitch! Sam, James, and not long after Coyney, all fell due to the odd bounce. I came to the crease and battled for every run as play and miss became shot of the day. Amrit played his first game for the Bay and hung around to stem the flow of wickets until he missed a jaffa and was bowled. In similar circumstances, Lachy batted out overs to try and help us post some sort of total, but he too was a victim of the bounce. Greg came and went quickly and now holds the title for the worst shot to the worst bowling of 2026. I finally fell after chopping on to one that kept low, for a very shaky 40. Darren wagged the tail for us as he lost Arran and Watto around him and made a hard fought 19. He had some great support by MD, who held up his end for 9 balls and remained not out. It was awesome to see how happy MD was as he walked off the ground with a huge smile, saying, "This is my best performance!"
We were bowled out for 121. We knew we didn't have enough runs, but we were going to do our best to make it hard for Alberton.
Sam and I opened the bowling, and with the batters clearly having no interest in taking too long to chase the runs with the impending weather, the slogfest began. Even though Alberton got a few away (many edges too) to Sams credit, he bowled one of the most terrifying spells of fast bowling that I've seen. It was almost as if he'd just finished watching the bodyline series and wanted to reinact it, as short ball after short ball at the body forced the batter to face up 3 meters down the pitch!! Sam then fired the perfect yorker in to send the middle stump cartwheeling. It was quality bowling from the young quick as he finished with 2 wickets. After a short captain vs captain battle, I claimed his wicket. Arran then replaced me and picked up where he left off last week. He bowled exceptionally well and was almost impossible to get away as Coyney and MD kept putting themselves in the line of fire, who both saved countless boundaries from their brilliance in the field. Arran deservedly claimed a wicket after immense pressure, just as our 15 overs of rain dancing paid off. The rain had saved our bacon when the game was abandoned with Alberton on 4/81. This game marks the first time in the last three seasons that a junior hasn't played in the team. I think it's safe to say that we really missed having our junior stars in the side this week, but on the other hand, we're incredibly proud of them for moving up the grades and wreaking havoc for the opposition.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

🏏 Over 50s Grudge Match: Orange 🍊 vs Navy ⚓ – Rain, Ribs & Runaway Bay Legends! 😂🌧️
Sunday saw one of the most highly anticipated, hotly contested and politely argued grudge matches in recent Runaway Bay history, as our two Over 50s sides – Orange vs Navy – finally went head-to-head. Some say rivalries are born… this one has been brewing for years 🍻😄
Mother Nature clearly wanted a say in the result, with persistent rain forcing the covers on and off Sam Loxton Oval more times than a bad game of musical chairs ☔🪑. Navy batted first, with their innings interrupted repeatedly, including an early lunch that had a few of the old fellas quietly packing up their chairs thinking “that’s us done for the day” 😴🧓
But surprise, surprise… the unbelievable drainage of Sam Loxton Oval had other ideas! The game was back on quicker than a Tiger Blacktop bouncer 🐅💥
Batting in tricky conditions, Navy never quite found top gear and limped to 5/69 off a shortened 28 overs. Early wickets fell cheaply and despite efforts to steady the ship, the foot never quite went down.
Best with the willow for Navy were:
🥥 Ian “Coco” Coyne – 12
🧠 Brian Olsen – 11*
🧙♂️ Craig “Harry” Secombe – 11*
With the ball, Orange were sharp as ever.
🎯 Terry “Tiger” Blacktop was once again on the prowl, snaring 2/18 off 5 overs, while 🎬 The Big Show Michael Kennedy delivered a tight spell of 1/5 off 5 overs – box office stuff!
The innings wasn’t short on entertainment either, with plenty of friendly banter flying between club legends who, remarkably, had never crossed paths on the cricket field before. Let’s just say the mouths were moving faster than the feet 😜🗣️
Chasing a modest total, Orange wasted no time, clearly determined to finish the job before the rain clouds regrouped ☁️⚡.
🔥 Colin “The Wild Thing” Wakefield led the charge with a classy 36*, well supported by 🪨 Brendan “The Gravel Polisher” Ball who chipped in with a solid 20. Game over before the covers could blink!
In the end, it was a cracking day of cricket played in great spirit by a top bunch of blokes. The post-match was just as important as the match itself, with plenty of fat chewed, stories told and cold drinks enjoyed 🍺😎
Same time next week, gents?
Cheers! 🏏👏
