First Grade

he 1st grade were at home to Surfers on the weekend. It was a lovely Saturday at the Aussielec oval with the sun out and a nice breeze. We had won the first game in a tight fixture at there place early on in the season.
We lost the toss and they decided to have a bat on a hard fresh pitch, Suranga and ben started excellently creating pressure and chances were created. Ben canning taking the first wicket. Ted came on first change and bowled with excellent control. On a pitch that didn’t offer him much he strung a lot of dot balls together which led to him forcing mistakes from the batsmen. One top edge to cover and the second a stumping from the quick hands of James Stirling. Honeybrook and Neyland then has a strong partnership in the middle before Travis came into the attack and struck early to dismiss Neyland. Mo had an excellent first spell which he was very unlucky to not take a wicket. He returned at the end to bowl at the death and picked up a well deserved wicket. Suranga also bowled very well all day picking up 2 wickets in his last spell. A well fought effort from the boys leaving us chasing 259.
Unfortunately, the start of the batting didn’t go quite to plan as there opening bowlers did an excellent job getting the new ball to talk. Some great discipline from them put pressure on us early and with a few breakthroughs we found ourselves 4-18. Corey and Sterlo showed some real fight in the middle knocking it around and running hard with a 55 run partnership. They both stood out with the bat as there was little resistance from the rest of the order and we were dismissed for 102. It was a touch day but I’m sure the boys will put up a huge fight away next week.
This was Jaydn’s last game and we are all very thankful for his time and efforts over the last few months.

This week at Runaway Bay Cricket Club, we say a heartfelt farewell to someone who has truly become part of our family ❤️🏏
As many of you know, Jadyn Denly is heading back home to the UK to begin his pre-season training with Kent County Cricket Club. While we’re excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for him, it’s never easy saying goodbye to someone who has made such a positive impact at the Bay.
Our young cricketers have benefited enormously from his guidance, encouragement, and cricket knowledge. 🏏💬 Whether it was offering technical advice, throwing extra balls in the nets, or simply having a chat after training, Jadyn has helped inspire the next generation at Runaway Bay. The smiles on the kids’ faces say it all 😊
On behalf of everyone at Runaway Bay, we thank you, Jadyn, for your contribution, your commitment, and the positive influence you’ve had on our club. 💙
We wish you every success back in the UK and for the season ahead with Kent. We’ll be following your progress closely and cheering you on from afar! 📣🇬🇧
Once a Bay player, always a Bay player.
Safe travels and all the very best in your cricketing career! ✈️🏏

"Jack Hocart? Oh yeah. Wasn't he really good when he was young?" (unknown opposition fielder, 21.03.2026.)
After a week off due to inclement weather, the Bay 2s were back on the road to take on a mid-table Surfers Paradise at Cambio Oval. With just about perfect conditions for cricket, I lost the toss an we were sent in to bat on what looked to be a belter of a track.
Hoc and Proc again paired to open our innings. The opposing skipper must have known something we didn't because after the first two deliveries of the match, it appeared as though the deck was nothing short of two-paced. While the first few deliveries rolled, the fourth of the innings reared up at Proctor 1(4), and caught the outside edge. Timmy replaced Proctor, however his stay at the crease was just as short. After playing across a full, straight delivery Timmy was clean bowled for 0(4). With the score at 2-4, Tom Gossett strode to the crease like a man who would be insulted by the thought of being protected from the opening bowlers. While Tommy clattered the attack to all parts, Hoc just did what he does week-in-week-out by breaking up his boundaries with tight singles and twos. The pair began to pull away from Surfers and as we entered the drinks break at 20 overs, our score had rollicked on to 2-115. With clear instructions to continue on their current course for the next 5-7 overs, Tom snicked off just an over after the break for another classy half century in good time 62(66). Sam Heathwood replaced Tom and after belting his first delivery for 4 through point, really took the pressure off the now well-established Hocart. Not long after launching a monster 6 towards the clubhouse, Sam missed a full-straight one that rapped him on the pads to see him dismissed for an important 19(17). Austin Billing succumbed to a strangle down the leg side for 4(5) and when shortly after proclaiming, 'I don't want a bar tab tonight', Connor Boyd ran Hocart out for another sublime run-a-ball 81 and we had slumped to 6-176. I limped to the crease to meet Connor and with 10 overs left to go, suggested that we knock it round for 5 overs before 'having a swing' from 35 onwards. And that we did. Connor found the gaps expertly and while I nudged, played and missed and tried to run him out as our score crept past 200 by the 35th. With Both Connor and myself having nothing to lose, we swung the willow and it took a good catch to dismiss Connor for a blistering 20(30) in the last over. Mitch Bailey replaced Connor and absolutely belted his first delivery straight down the throat of the mid-wicket fielder. Kunal Thakur on his 2nd Grade debut got off the mark in style to give his greedy 'average hunting' skipper the final few balls. It came as no surprise that while seeking red ink I was dismissed on the last ball of the innings for a clumsy, chancy 44(33). Despite a bit of a hiccup 3 quarters through our innings, we had managed to claw our way to 9-249 by the end of our 40 overs - a score that we all suspected was going to be too much for the Surfers Boys.
Stevie Watson and George Edney again paired with the new ball. This week bloody Stevie kept us all waiting until the 4th over before he provided the Bay 2s with the breakthrough as Mitch Bailey took a catch at mid off to dismiss one of the Surfers openers. While Stevie toiled away into the breeze, George had the opposition in all sorts from the northern end. After several dropped catches, George was back in the wickets as he dismissed 3 out of the top 5 Surfers batters. In a classy return to form, George claimed the outstanding figures of 8 overs, 3-21 before the opposition decided that they would try and play for a draw in this 40 over, fixture. Kunal Thakur 0-21(7), Mitch Bailey 0-18(3) Tommy Gossett 0-42(8) and myself 1-31(6), all toiled away to little affect. With one over remaining and Surfers needing 50odd to stave off a bonus point defeat, I threw the ball to Sammy Heathwood who against explicit orders to bowl 6 dot balls so we could all go home, dismissed a batter to claim figures of 1-1(1). At the end of their allotted 40 overs Surfers had managed to register 6-157, some 92 runs short of our total. In what felt like a very boring innings we still managed to pick up the bonus point and further pull away from the peloton of the top 4.
An easy win was set up by Jack and Tom's classy knocks and the game was well and truly killed off after George ripped through the top 5. We stuck to our plans, played aggressively and remained patient when wickets weren't tumbling in quick succession.
We look ahead to next week at home as we take on Alberton.
Patrick .

Burleigh Cricket Club VS Runaway Bay Navy at Elanora High School
After losing the toss and being sent into bat which was perfect as we wanted to bat anyway, we got off to a slow start with regular wickets falling every few overs, making it difficult to build momentum. The opposition bowlers kept things tight with Good line and length and lots of swing plus massive variations in Bounce but applying consistent pressure through the middle stages of the innings.
Nathan Rudd held the innings together superbly, top scoring with a composed 67 from 87 balls. After a patient start, he began to find his rhythm, launching two towering sixes and guiding the side through a challenging period.
The real late momentum shift came from Jack Holmes, who produced a brilliant unbeaten 54 from just 43 deliveries. After starting cautiously, Holmes exploded in the final overs, smashing four massive sixes in the last three overs to give the innings a much-needed boost and lift the total to a competitive score of 184/6
With the ball, we struck early — or so we thought. The opening batter was trapped plumb in front, but the umpire ruled that Clarkey had moved into his line of vision, denying us what looked a certain wicket. Momentum swung further when the number three batter survived a second-ball LBW shout that again looked plumb. Those two chances proved costly, as the pair combined for over 100 runs, putting us under pressure.
Despite the setbacks, Flynn Richardson delivered a superb late spell, finishing with 3 for 22 and sparking a mini-collapse to keep us in the contest well made it interesting with a superb spell and with sharper work in the field including several dropped chances Flynn’s figures could easily have read 4 or 5 wickets.
While luck didn’t fall our way at key moments, the fight and resilience shown, particularly in the closing stages with both bat and ball, are strong positives to take into the next match.

4th Grade Orange

Rd 19 4s Orange vs Mudgeeraba
After the week off due to rain last week we were back at Loxton 3 against Mudgeeraba,
The day got off to a good start with Col winning the toss…first time for a while.. so we had a bat,
With a few changes this week we had the Rachow boys Harry & Dale in the side, so we sent them out to bat together, was a great moment the father/ son combo but unfortunately didn’t last long enough with both gone way to soon , Lucas & the Legend stingers followed soon after 4/24 wasn’t the start we were after Chris joined Col at the crease hoping to launch a rescue mission, and for a short time they did put some pressure back on to the bowlers putting on a 31 run partnership before chris was unfortunately caught for a run a ball 22 with 5 boundaries, he was replaced by his son Jack who proved a great support to Col as the boys put on our best partnership of the day of 52, Col started lifting the tempo finding the rope & even clearer it a couple of times, but then Jack fell for a well made 17, Jamie came & went but not before strengthening his case for the hole in the bat award.. keep it up big fella you will get there.
Mudgee’s bowling had been very tight all day and that continued,
7/109 off 27 overs when Rocco joined Col, but in the 31st over Col’s resistance was finally over when he was caught by a brilliant one handed catch full stretch over his head going backwards, on the long on rope , it pretty much summed up our day Col out for 63 off 68 4x 4s & 2x6s,
8/125 then became bowled out for 140 shortly after with Wolfy & Rocco(10) falling,
It wasn’t a big score but we had bowled them out early in the year for 129 so we thought a few early wickets who knows, they did have a couple of new blokes playing this time around, 1 of which took a liking to our early pace on bowling, swinging hard and getting away with a few but with such a small score they knocked off the runs quickly, pick of our bowlers was Rocco with his leggies picking up 1/17 Lucas was the only other wicket taker,
Bad luck boys we move on to next week against Burleigh at home a game that we have a shot at winning so lets go boys!!!
Thanks for reading and see you all next week GO BAY!!!

5th Grade

🏏 5th Grade Match Report – Runaway Bay vs Broadbeach 💙🧡
It was a tough afternoon for our Runaway Bay 5th Grade side as we took on Broadbeach White Community Div 2 in the Gold Coast Cricket League – Division 2.
Broadbeach won the toss and posted a strong total of 6/268 from their 40 overs. Credit to their top order, with Douglas Cowan leading the way with 81 and solid contributions throughout the innings.
Our bowlers worked hard in the field on a warm day and stuck to the task admirably 💪
Zac Wilkinson was the standout, finishing with an impressive 3/28 (6) 👏
Nicholas Lamont provided great support with 2/28 (6) 🎯
A further 2/35 (5) helped keep things competitive through the middle overs.
Despite the scoreboard pressure, the effort and energy in the field never dropped — something the team should be proud of 🙌
Chasing 269 was always going to require a strong start. Our boys showed plenty of fight with the bat:
Luke Northam played a brilliant counter-attacking innings of 44 (28), taking the game on and giving us early momentum 🚀
Captain Garred Birrell led from the front with a composed 37 (35) 🧢
Craig McGhie added a valuable 24 (22) to keep us in the contest.
Unfortunately, we were bowled out for 187, falling 81 runs short.
While the result didn’t go our way, there were plenty of positives to take from the match — fighting spirit, some excellent individual performances, and a team that continues to compete hard every week 💙🏏
Losses are part of the journey, but the resilience and commitment shown by this group speaks volumes about the culture being built within our 5th Grade side. We regroup, we learn, and we go again next week 🔄🔥
Well done to everyone who represented the Bay — keep working hard and backing each other 💪💙
#GoTheBay 🏏

6th Grade

We won the toss and elected to bat.
That was one of the highlights of the game as following that our top 3 batters all left for donuts. Dale came in at 5 but unfortunately hit up on a defensive stroke and was caught for 2. We were 4/17.
It was left to Coyney and myself to try and carefully build an innings to try and put some kind of total together. We managed to get to 75 before I fell for 40 and then Coyney 2 overs later for 25 on the stroke of drinks. We were 6/78.
Aidan came and went without bothering the scorers and we were hurting.
Now at the crease was our superstar Haz, whose been travelling the Bahamas with 4th grade but kindly came to strengthen our side this week. At the other end we had our very patient (except for that time he won us a close game with a reverse sweep boundary on his first ball) Lachy. These lads had a partnership played in perfect harmony. Each one complimented the other. Lachy had the finesse approach, whilst Haz was patient, but then absolutely punished every bad ball that came his way, including yet another magnificent 6. He's getting bigger and stronger and really starting to make a habit of big hitting.
These 2 put on a valuable 50 run partnership on a day where runs were hard to find. We could all learn a thing or 2 from the way these guys go about their business in the middle. They got us to the back end of the innings when Amrit and Rory came in. Rory was looking good, hitting the middle of his bat but didn't get the opportunity to get going before Amrit was caught just inside the boundary.
All out 138.
Broadbeach came out with hesitation due to the barrage of quality bowling from our King and Giant Killer. It was our Giant Killer that set the tone early taking the opening wicket. King never likes to be outdone though. What came next was a shock to everyone at the ground. Rory started tearing apart the Broadbeach innings taking 4/16.
Sam and I bowled with Sam claiming the big wicket of the other opener whilst I was leaking runs but creating chances with edges and miss hits regularly.
They were 6/84 at drinks, and were very nervous.
Our "Stand in Mop" Lachy, bowled with extreme precision and claimed 2/4 including being on a hat trick. At the other end we had James bowl his first over for the Bay and was exceptional. Keep that arm warm James!
In what was mostly a friendly game didn't end that way, with a disappointing display from our opponents...
For the record, great wicket James and an excellent catch Lachy!
It was a tough day but so many positives were found. Our Grilld player of the day award went to Lachy. His composure under pressure with the bat, deadly accurate bowling, combined with his never give up attitude was something special. His highlight for me was he risked injury diving for a ball on the boundary to try and save a run that he probably should have let go for 4 on the final ball of the game. He made us all so proud.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 40’s Division 2

RD 9 40s div 2 vs Coomera
Sunday found us playing at Loxton 1 against Coomera for the last home & Away match of the season,
Things started well when Col won another coin toss & as usual we had a bat.
Before we started the day we had a 1 min silence with the coomera boys to remember Jason’s mate JJ a veterans legend & Nsw veterans president who tragically passed this week.
We started proceedings with Jason and Lee,
Unfortunately Lee went 3rd ball so 1/0,
Sean promoted this week in at 3,
the boys faced some really disciplined bowler early from the Coomera boys, 10 overs in we were 1/34 losing Jason(16) followed by Sean (15) wasn’t great
At 3/36, Col & Birdy got together and set about putting some pressure back on the bowlers, which they did putting on 75 off 69 partnership though some power hitting & hard running, Col’s fitness and patience ran out took a swipe at one and was out for 28,
Birdy falling shortly after just short of his 50 for a well made 46 off 42 balls 2 x4s & 3 6s , 5/118
Josh Hoare and Nathan Rudd continued the good work putting on another 41 before Ruddy(27) tried to sweep one with his leg and was given LBW,
5/159 off 30.3 overs the platform set to finish strongly and get to 200+ Trav & Josh did a great job of doing just that until the last over when Trav decided to play his first ever reverse sweep !! God only knows how he got away with it but got 4,
he tried it again this time not so lucky out caught,
now at this point Critto who had the pads on for about an hr including his helmet and had been nervously pacing around all around the veranda, to the amusement of all the boys was required to face 1 ball!!!!As critto strode to the wicket with instructions from everyone of 4 or 6 ringing on his ears …the boys weren’t to confident some suggesting stumps may fly...
the ball was bowled followed by a nervous swing and you guessed it stumps everywhere to a large amount of amusement from the gallery… back luck Pete better luck next time mate,
So after all that we finished with 8/220 off our 40 overs, what we thought was a good defendable score on a pitch that played reasonably well for the most part just with some variable bounce at times which our bowlers would exploit,
After our delightful lunch thanks again to all the club helpers for that, we took to the field,
Coomera’s openers came out determined to get a fast start and their left hander did just that putting our bowlers to the sword early, 21 off the first 3 overs, 28 off 5 bit we were slowly bringing down the rate with some great bowling from Josh who finished his spell of 7 overs with 0/28 but was extremely unlucky beating the bat numerous times and having a couple of catches go down,
0/68 off 15
Birdy came in the attack as the opener retired at his 50 off 44,
And had immediate effect grabbing the first wicket,
Trav was being very tight at the other end but a change bringing Ruddy into the attack brought results with him grabbing 2 wickets, and birdy another to reduce them to 4/104 off 25,
Birdy got through 6 overs before he had to go off to see a Taylor swift concert lol (Ed Sheeran) he got 2/ 20 it cost himself the Man of match
That brought Craig McGhie (1/27) into the attack who got a quick wicket 5/125,
Their second left hander had came in and was hitting it well and putting pressure back on and keeping them in the game,
Shuey came back into the attack taking over from Ruddy(2/46) grabbed 2 wickets to finish his 7 with 2/45,
7/168 off 33 overs the second lefty retired,
And which meant 1 more wicket and we brought back the opener,
Trav came back on which caused some strange things to happen like a bloke hitting the ball basically back to trav and setting off for a run only for trav to swoop on ball throw to Lee for the runout 8/182, 39 runs required off 29 with 2 wickets in hand but there 2 retirees to return,
Trav immediately steps up to the plate, going straight thru the opener first ball on his return 9/182,
Clarky was now in his customary role in the death overs and his 3rd over drawing the Lefty down the pitch only to beat him with flight, dip, turn it had it all well if u ask Clarky anyway
Lee done the rest, game over Coomera bowled out for 193 great work boys oh and speaking of Clarky he pulled off one of the most remarkable pieces of fielding that id say has ever been done on Loxton oval, with a ball smashed down the ground passed Clarky at mid off as the ball was flying passed him he threw out his boot kicking the ball back up to himself catching it in his right hand in one gracefully movement turned and threw the ball back to the bowler saving an almost certainly boundary was the most amazing thing most of us have witnessed this year im sure it will be on frogbox for everyone to see well done clarky!!
So a great win by everyone involved that secures us a home semi final to be held at Loxton 1 on Sunday 8th of March against Mudgeeraba hopefully everyone can get down & support the boys as we continue our push to bring home the silverware thanks for reading
GO BAY!!
Over 40’s Division 3

The Last Round of the Season the Bay 40/3 were up against Broadbeach on Loxton - 2 fighting for the Wooden Spoon .
The Bay won the Toss and elected to Bat .
Gary and Coyney opened with Coyney returning quickly getting caught for- 1 .
Muzz joined Gary and away we went with Muzz smashing 51 from 45 balls retired well support at the other end by Gary .

Murry White joined the Skip and keep the score board ticking till the Skip retired on 51 from 46 Balls .
Murray started hitting them to all parts of the ground before getting a cracking delivery that swung back and got him LBW for 43 from 43 Balls ,great innings Muzz and well done .
The Bay batted out our 40 overs setting Broadbeach 209 to win .
Azz & Duane open the bowling with Broadbeach needing 5 runs per over to chase us down .
They started with aggression hitting balls to the boundary and plenty in the Air also falling short of players hands , it was game on .
Azz struck 1st with a LBW and very unlucky spell with a few dropped catches and some very strong LBW shouts that were turned down .
Duane bowled with good pace & bounce also very unlucky .
Schultzy and Murray Whyte come on and did a fantastic job slowing Broadbeach down bowling great lines .
It was going down to the death as Broadbeach Skip took the bit between the teeth and hit some huge bombs retiring on 51 from 60 balls .
Broadbeach dug in and passed our score 4 down with 4 overs remaining .
A great game of cricket to finish another Fantastic Year of Vets Cricket at the Bay with a few Cold Beers and laughs after the game .
See you all next Season its been a pleasure .
Cheers .

Div 2 Match Report
Womens Navy Match Report v Surfers Paradise
A huge shoutout to Kell, Kirst and Sarah for stepping in for our team — without you, we simply wouldn’t have been able to take the field. Your willingness to help out was massively appreciated by everyone.
It was another very hot day, and for the sixth time in a row we lost the toss and were sent in to bat. Some very disciplined and tight bowling from the opposition restricted our scoring early, making runs hard to come by. However, some late contributions from Kell, Cath and G helped push the total along, and despite the challenges, the team stayed positive and focused heading into the field, keen to pick up some early wickets.
Everyone put in the effort to keep the runs down and applied themselves well in the field, but it just wasn’t our day. Surfers capitalised on their chances, piled on the runs, and went on to record a comfortable win.
No stress from our side — it was simply an off day. Spirits remain high, lessons will be taken, and we’ll be ready to bounce back next week.
Once again, thank you to Kell, Kirst and Sarah for filling in and supporting the team — your contribution meant everything.

Women Pink Diamonds

What a cracking Sunday at Brockman Oval!
The sun was out, the cheer squad was loud, and the Runaway Bay Pink Diamond ladies showed some serious grit against a Coomera Div 3 side that looked suspiciously like a Div 2 team.
The Batting: Digging In
We won the toss and elected to bat, only to find those balls coming down like lightning! I am incredibly proud of how the team stood tall; despite the heat, we only gave up one single wicket the entire innings. A massive shout-out to Kalilah for stepping up for her first-ever game—you were brilliant and made sure we could actually take the field!
The Scoreboard (15 balls faced each):
Sonia: 18 runs (A standout performance!)
Kalilah: 14 runs (What a debut!)
Lori: 12 runs
Gaylene: 9 runs
Faith: 8 runs
Emily: 6 runs
Teagan: 6 runs
The Fielding: Clean & Mean
After drinks, we hit the field with a level of energy that has improved out of sight since the start of the season.
Tracy was a highlight reel on her own, snagging a wicket and showing off some elite reflexes with a brilliant caught and bowled.
Teagan struck early in the 4th over, getting one past the bat with an assist from Sonia, who had "safe hands" behind the stumps for a handy catch.
The Bowling Figures:
Tracy: 1/23 (3 overs)
Teagan: 1/22 (3 overs)
Kalilah: 0/15 (2 overs)
Sonia: 0/16 (3 overs)
Lori: 0/17 (2 overs)
Faith: 0/19 (2 overs)
Emily: 0/26 (2 overs)
Gaylene: 0/26 (3 overs)
The Results & Awards
The final tally saw Runaway Bay Pink 1-97 defeated by Coomera 2-167, but the spirit of the game was the real winner.
Player of the Day (Coomera Nomination): Sonia for an incredible all-round display in batting, fielding, bowling, and keeping.
Player of the Day (Captain's Nomination): Teagan for her dedication at training, her wicket-taking magic, and her bravery against that fast bowling (only 16 days to go!).
Huge thanks to Brad and Craig for umpiring, and our scoring legends Geoff and Hugo. We love our cheer squad—your support means the world!
