Seniors 7 & 8/3/2026

First Grade

The 1st grade had a very exciting game away in Burleigh this week. The weather was not kind to us on Thursday and Friday so it was touch and go if we would get on. Fortunately, the ground was just about fit for us to play.

We won the toss and had a bowl, it was a great start by Monib who bowled with excellent control swinging it both ways. He took 2 early ones and found the outside edge a few more times. He was supported by ben canning early on who also beat the edge. Tom Gossett came on to bowl from the far end and bowled with excellent control and creating pressure on there set batsmen. At drinks the game was nicely poised but on a better track than we thought it was all about control which the Gossett brother showed. Tom from one end and Ted from the other. Ted managed to pick up 2 key wickets so at the 30 over stage we had them 4 down. The next 15 overs consisted of some tight bowling from the group. Tom finished his spell with a good economy and ben canning bowled some very tidy overs. Yas bowled a great few sets in the middle taking one with him as well. Mo came on to take another wicket to finish with a 3fer.

We entered the 2nd innings chasing 223. Jack and Yas started excellently. Jack hit 3 sixes to go on his way to 39 before falling to an LBW shout. Alongside yas they put on 58 for the first partnership. Unfortunately there was a collapse of wickets just before drinks and we were left with Tom Gossett and Lucas at the crease to steady the ship. Lucas in the last 2 games has shown excellent character and fight, this time he made a 39 which was joint top score. He did this alongside Tom who hit 22 and they put on a 43 run partnership. Myself and Lucas also put on a stand together but it fell to Mo to try and see us home. He managed to hit 2 massive sixes before he was unfortunately run out and we lost by 30 runs.

2nd Grade

As the shadows continued lengthening on the regular season fixtures, the Bay 2s were at home to take on an in-form Burleigh at Loxton 1. With plenty of rain around during the week, and much to the numerous and colourful lamentations of lone curator P. Nordstrom, the deck hadn't received the amount of sunshine nor rolling as otherwise desirable. That being the case, I was keen to have a bowl against a side that had rolled Palm Beach for just 19 runs the previous week. Yet another successful coin toss saw 11 of Bay 2s trotting out to the centre, taking the field for the first innings.

Despite a harbouring a slightly depleted squad owing to selections aimed at securing a finals berth for first grade, our bowling attack remained as strong as ever. Stevie took the ball from the northern end while George Edney partnered him, wind assisted, from the Southern end. This week George kicked off the wicket-taking as he claimed the first scalp courtesy of a poor shot and sharp catch by Will Altass at cover. Not content to let George take the limelight, Stevie responded in kind, with a wicket of his own. After drawing a false stroke, Steve caught the leading edge of the Burleigh first drop, and I took an easy catch at mid-on. A third rash stroke followed as George Edney claimed the big wicket of Brain to yet another drive in the air and as Mitch Bailey clasped his hands firmly around the ball, Burleigh had slumped to 3-22. Stevie again returned fire to dismiss the Burleigh skipper and pick up his 25th scalp of the season. Yet again, Stevie (2-28 from 7) and George (2-28 from 8) had broken the backbone of an opposition batting line up and as they finished their spells Burleigh were in a shambles at 4-56 from 14 overs. Harker (0-28 from 7) replaced Stevie at the northern end and bowled without luck while Mitchell Bailey replaced George and was relentless. Just as the Burleigh batters looked to be pulling away from us a bit, Mitch struck with two important wickets to return figures of 2-28(7). Will Altass (1-17 from 3) and I (2-28 from 5), began mopping up the tail while Josh Hoare made a brief cameo to claim the final wicket and figures of 1-0 (0.3) and close Burleigh’s innings at 10-159 from 37.3 overs. A few dropped catches and a couple of misfields had turned what should have been a 130ish chase into one that we were going to have to work for a bit.

With Jack Hocart moving up to 1s for the remainder of the season, Nathan Proctor paired with Brendan Roberts to open our innings against a formidable Burleigh attack. Both Brendo and Proctor got us off to a steady start before Brendo was dismissed for 8(13) after snicking off. Taika Hoare, replaced Brendo and together with Proctor the pair put on a 50 run partnership that saw us enter the break at 1-82 and well on top. However, just two overs after the break Proctor was dismissed, bowled for another solid 36(65). Taika Hoare too fell in the 24th over for a classy 33(59) and when Mitch McPhee 7(18), fell to a screaming catch at mid-wicket, we had somehow turned 1-82 into 4-105 in a matter of eight overs. Josh Hoare came and went as a result of a loose stroke 3(8) but as I plodded to the centre to meet Chris Bartlett, the game was still well and truly under control at 5-125. Needing just over 4s per over, Chris and I agreed to push the ball around and turn 1s into 2s etc. Sadly, that plan failed after Chris was caught at mid off for a well-made 26(35). Harker replaced Chris but he and I struggled to pick up either the singles or the boundaries we required and when I was dismissed for 12(18), to be shortly followed by Mitch Bailey who went for a golden duck, we were well and truly floundering as the Bay Collapse looked to return to Loxton 1 for the first time in Season 25-26. Harker was dismissed for 8(15) with just three balls left in the innings. Stevie Watson, hit his first run of the season and handed the reins over to George Edney. With 1 ball remaining and 1 wicket in hand, we needed a 6 to tie the match. The strong south-easterly combined with the offspinner bowling from the northern end provided every opportunity for George to attain hero-status and as he launched the final delivery of the match high, westward into the evening sky, we dared to dream for just a moment before the ball hurtled earth-ward and was snaffled by a Burleigh fielder 5m in from the cow corner boundary.

Lets face it fellas, this was a choke. We were on top of the opposition for bang on 90% of this match (until the 32nd over) yet it still slipped away from us. Our failings in the field were compounded by our lack of fight through the middle-to-late overs of our batting innings and to not chase down 160 on a good track really was pretty disappointing.

With all that said, some of the bitterness began to fade as the news of Mudgeeraba’s loss at the hands of Beaudesert filtered through some hours later. The result signalled confirmation of RBCC securing a minor premiership in 2nd Grade. Rumours have it that this is the first such regular season, table topping return in some 12 seasons for a RBCC 2nd grade squad. While there are no points, no trophies and no glory to accompany a minor premiership, it is worth reflecting on the 14 victories we have achieved this season (with one match remaining), in stark contrast to the 6 combined victories across the previous two seasons.

We are on the road again next week for the final round of the regular season as we take on Coomera and to test just how hungry this late-season loss has made us.

Patrick.

3rd Grade

3rd Grade V Queens

We played queens on loxton 2 on Saturday we won the toss and decided to have a bowl, This was a totally different Queens side that we played a couple of months ago and so was our side going from an average age of 24 last time we played to an average age of 45 this time, We opened the bowling with Jake Shults and Cam Davies, Both lads bowled well but the queens batters had other ideas using the fast outfield to there advantage, after a couple of dropped catches Kane Taylor who replaced Cam got the first wicket of the game in his 4th over taking the scalp of Bay Junior recently defected to Queens Aiden G, at this stage of the game Queens were 1 for 95 in the 18th over, Noah Mcqueen followed from Jakes end bowling really well bowling his 8 straight Jared Austin came on following Kanes first 5 overs taking 2 wickets off his 8 overs for 42, Kane Taylor and Jake Shultz came back on Jake taking 2 wickets in his second spell to finish with figures of 2 for 32, Queens managed 221 for 6 wickets in there 40 overs which was a big target for us to chase but bat the overs and we win the game that was our goal.

We opened the batting with Cole Wakefield and Locky Creed, Both lads looked in the form of their lives before Cole smoked one to cover and luck fell the young lad who caught it surprising himself that it stuck, This brings in Lucas Frazer lucas played an amazing knock him and locky controlling the game and momentum bringing the game back towards us, Creed was next to leavehe ended his innings on 38 off 30 balls, this brings in Kunal, this was the best id seen kunal bat playing a massive support roll for lucas before being given out caught behind off his thigh pad for 26 off 40, Raffles was next in, he played another important role in support of lucas with a quick 16 off 23 Lucas was out caught for 44 off 57 a huge effort from him, once lucas left us we knew we had a mountain to climb we were 5 for 147 Wolfy came to the crease hitting his first one for 4 he managed another 2 runs which brings in Kane Taylor, Cool calm and collected he was playing smart cricket and with Stingers coming to the crease after just leaving the hospital after a chin reduction and 6 stiches smashing balls left right and centre won us the game Kane 30 not out off 35 and man of the match Stingers 41 off 26 balls with 6 fours and a 6,
Another win for 3rd grade who only lost 1 game for the regular season next game a home Semi final

4th Grade Navy

4th Grade Orange

I was handed the reins from Col for the final game of the season after his well-deserved promotion to 3rd grade, along with a few of the other boys. With several players moving up, the final fixture for 4th Grade Orange ended up being a bit of a combined side between the Orange and Navy teams, which made for a relaxed and enjoyable day.
Things got off to an unusual start at the toss. Scheduled for 12:00pm, Bond University only had three players present at the time. My grand plan was to win the toss, send them in to bowl with one fielder, and open with myself to make a few easy runs to finish the season in style. Unfortunately, they won the toss themselves and chose to bat, spoiling that idea fairly quickly.
By about 12:15pm they had five players, which was just enough to start the match with two batsmen, two umpires and someone to score.
We opened the bowling with Harry. Although he has mostly played as a batsman for us this season, I know he’s very capable with the ball and I wanted to give him a chance to showcase that. Harry finished with 1/28 from his four overs. The figures probably don’t fully reflect how well he bowled, with a couple of aggressive shots from their openers finding the boundary. His wicket was memorable though, with Sean Clark taking one of the more incredible catches you’ll see — running in from deep gully, sticking out a hand and somehow holding on.
From the other end, Mo bowled some of the best deliveries I’ve seen on Sam Loxton 3. His figures of 1/33 from four overs also didn’t quite do him justice. He took the first wicket of the day, cleaning up one of their openers with a catch behind to Chris.
After their openers settled in for a short while, it was time to unleash something I had only previously heard about, the infamous Sean Clark “hand grenades.” Seeing it live certainly lived up to the hype. Sean bowled six outstanding overs for just 14 runs at an economy of 2.33 and picked up two key wickets. In the same over he dismissed their set opener, who had scored 42 from 26 balls, and two balls later removed their number four, both caught behind by Chris.
Next up was Jack, sending down his reliable slow-mediums. Jack was a bit unlucky throughout his spell, with several chances going down in the field. If we’d had a full XI from the start, he might easily have picked up four or five wickets. As it was, he finished with 1/48 from six overs, finally grabbing a deserved wicket with a sharp caught-and-bowled.
To close out the innings, I turned to our reliable finishers. Nathan Rudd bowled 4.4 overs and finished with 2/19, including two wickets in consecutive balls, leaving him technically on a hat-trick for whenever his next game may be.
From the other end, Dale Rachow bowled beautifully. His four overs included a maiden during a period when the opposition were swinging for the fences, and he finished with an excellent 2/13.
One of the more amusing parts of the innings was that Bond University seemed to gain players as the day went on. They began the match with five players and on several occasions we thought we were “one wicket away” from finishing the innings early, only for another ring-in to appear padded up. By the end of the innings they had ten players, and we had taken nine wickets to bowl them out for 157.
Chasing 158, we sent out the Rachow father-son duo to open the batting. They put together an outstanding partnership of around 100 runs to put the chase firmly under control. Harry was eventually dismissed shortly after the drinks break, proof once again that drinks breaks can be dangerous.
At around 1/100, the result was largely in hand. Dale continued his strong day with the bat, playing an excellent innings of 73 not out from 62 balls, including several big sixes.
Rocco Fisher then finished the job alongside him with a solid 32 not out from 29 balls, and we reached the target comfortably in 29 overs, with six overs to spare.
A special mention goes to Justin, who filled in for us on the day. He did arrive an hour late, but better late than never, the extra fielder was certainly appreciated. The plan was to give him a hit at number four, but unfortunately the chase wrapped up before he got the chance.
Overall it was a great team performance. The bowlers shared the wickets around, the fielding energy was excellent, and the batting partnership up top set the game up perfectly. Highlights of the day included Dale’s 73*, Sean Clark’s brilliant spell, and a fantastic team atmosphere for the final match of the season.
Most importantly though, I can officially say I am one from one as a Runaway Bay Seniors captain, a statistic that absolutely must be remembered when captaincy discussions come around next year. Col, in particular, will not be allowed to forget it.
A great way to finish the season.
Up the Bay.

5th Grade

Last round of the home & away season, we needed a win & a boost to our NRR as were only seperated by percentage to the 2nd placed Southport & with 4 of our best out again (& Bizza) we would have to be at our best as Burleigh belted us early in the season. After a short team meeting we decided to leave Bizza out to give us the best hope of achieving our goal with the promise of reinstating him for the finals. The new & improved skipper won the toss & decided to bat first. We opened with the 2 decoys again, Jamie &
Conan with Conan soon departing for 9 & Jamie not long after for 18. Luke replaced Conan & a very hungover Azza replaced Jamie. Luke started briskly while Azza was a little more watchful as he sobered up down the other end. The hapless Burleigh bowlers copped an absolute beating from Lukeearly & as Azza regained his eyesight, he started to join in the fun. The pair were still there at drinks with the score on 2/130. The carnage continued after the break with Luke finally dismissed late in our innings for 172 including 10 6’s, sharing a 219 run stand with Azza. Brad was next in & next out caught for a second ball duck. Azza had finally sobered up & was quietly edging towards his first ton for the Bay but was caught first ball of the last over for 90. Birdy & Critto saw out the last over with Birdy not out 20 & Critto 6 not out, our score 5/327 off our 36 overs. Our turn with the pink rock with Schuey & Duane opening the bowling. Schuey took the first scalp with
Duane joining in on the fun not long after, the pair both bowling their 6 straight claiming 2 wickets each leaving Burleigh 4/70 off 12. Schnitty was next to bowl & he was spanked early by a girl (not the first time this has happened, with the other times nothing to do with cricket). Azza was next to bowl & claimed a wicket early in his spell with Birdy taking a sharp catch with the gloves, his 4th of the innings, leaving Burleigh 5/100 at drinks. We continued with Schnitt & Azza after drinks with schnitty capturing 2 quick scalps leaving the opposition with plenty to do, the score now 7/115. Conan was next to bowl claiming
the next wicket with Andy cleaning up the tail, claiming the last 2 wickets, leaving our hapless opposition 192 runs short of their target, all out for 135. All the bowlers captured a wicket, expertly rotated by the new skipper. Schuey finished with 2/42 from 6, Azza 1/22, Conan 1/12, Schnitty 2/15, Andy 2/11 & Duane 2/33. A masterful display of batting, bowling & fielding with all chances taken but more importantly great captaincy with bold & fresh new ideas. The big win ensured we retained top spot, minor premiers for the 4th time in 5 seasons, earning a week to rest our bruised & battered bodies, with hopefully a full team for the first time this season in a fortnight.
Cheers JH.

Captain Schultz's Historic Double Century Powers RBCC to Massive Victory

It was a day of absolute fireworks at Sir Bruce Small Oval 2 as Runaway Bay  put on a batting masterclass to secure a dominant victory over Surfers Paradise 6th Grade Blue. RBCC posted a colossal total of 5/392 in their allotted 36 overs, ultimately restricting the opposition to 9/274.

A Batting Masterclass The undeniable story of the day was an awe-inspiring, historic innings from RBCC captain Chris Schultz. Schultz played an innings for the ages, carrying his bat to score a breathtaking 254 not out off just 110 deliveries. Showcasing unparalleled aggression and power, he bludgeoned 21 fours and an incredible 22 sixes, finishing with a phenomenal strike rate of 230.90.

Ian Coyne was also instrumental in setting up the mammoth total, providing excellent support with a brisk 61 off 51 balls (8 fours, 1 six) before being run out. James Keith chipped in with a solid 15 (16 balls), while Arran Canning remained unbeaten on 11 at the end of the 36 overs, leaving Surfers Paradise with a monumental mountain to climb.

Clinical Bowling and Fielding Defending 392, the RBCC bowling attack stuck to their task brilliantly against a resilient Surfers Paradise lineup. Ian Coyne completed a stellar all-round match by spearheading the bowling attack, claiming superb figures of 3/28 off his 6 overs, which included a maiden. Amrit Singh was the other major destroyer, taking 2 crucial wickets for 42 runs in his 5 overs.

Lachlan Barry deserves a special mention for a highly economical spell, tying down an end to concede just 24 runs off his 6 overs. Wickets were also shared among the rest of the attack, with MD Jahirul Islam (1/48) and the team's Jimmy (1/7) striking key blows.

Surfers Paradise showed some middle-order fight, primarily through Steven Lye, who scored a rapid 81 off 49 balls, and Jack Callander, who managed 61 off 54 balls. However, RBCC’s sharp fielding ensured the chase never gained enough momentum. Crucial run-outs executed by Chris Schultz and Lachlan Barry, along with a slick stumping by wicketkeeper Gregory Ryan to dismiss the dangerous Lye off Coyne’s bowling, kept the fielding side firmly in the driver's seat.

At the end of their 36 overs, Surfers Paradise finished on 9/274, handing RBCC a comprehensive and highly memorable victory built on the back of one of the greatest individual batting performances in the club's recent history.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 40’s Division 2

Semi final 40s Div 2 vs Mudgeeraba

A big day for the 40s Div2 boys as they arrived at Loxton 1 to play Mudgeeraba in the Semi Final, under dark and gloomy skies we somehow managed to get the game started on time,

Col won the toss which proved crucial with the pending Rain closing in, bowling first was the option so we could control the match,

The mudgee batters started fast  swinging hard early to try and push the game forward in the time we had available,

Trav and Schuey, took the new ball,

Trav struck early doing what he did the last time we played them reducing them to 2/16 then 3/31  when Lee effected a brilliant stumping off Trav,

Schuey wasn’t having to much luck at the other end with 2 catches going down in the slips which didn’t help his cause,

A change at the bowling crease with immediate effect with birdy picking up the 4th wicket,

Mudgee was still going hard and hitting some good shots but that was creating opportunities for us as well ,

Jason picked up the next wicket when birdy took a sharp catch at point, the rain had arrived and was drizzling and causing us some issues especially with the ball, but not enough to take is from the ground.

14 overs in and we had them 6/67 we were getting wickets but they were scoring as well, we decided to change it up and slow the game and bowling down a bit Clarky came into the attack and straight away the game changed as the batters struggled with his lack of pace and he soon struck not once but twice clean bowling 2 in 2 balls, 1 before drinks 1 after, at this point we learnt Mudgee’s plan was to declare and try and bowl us out, but they were quickly informed by the umpire that was against the rules, so we continued on 8/107 and clarky on a hat-trick unfortunately he missed his target with full toss no-ball mainly due to the conditions and the ball as it wasn’t getting any better, their main batter Garth clarke  batted well but had to retire on 50 which opened up the game, Trav came back to tighten up 1 end and Clarky did the rest cleaning up the tail as well as the returning Clarke who he dismissed first ball on return,

We bowled them out for 138 off 23 overs, a great effort in the conditions.

Clarky finished with 5/26

Trav 3/26 , Jason 1/27, birdy 1/39

Schuey 0/20,

The umpire decided to call an early lunch as the rain set in and that was all she wrote as the covers went on & thats where they stayed,

we now progress to the big dance thanks to our strong season & finishing 2nd on the Ladder.

Our next assignment is the Grand Final against Broadbeach to be played at Broadbeach (Neptune Homes Oval) on the 22nd of March.

A big thank you everyone who turned up to cheer us on Sunday we hope to see you all again at Broady
