Seniors 24 & 25/1/2026
First Grade

The 1st grade went on the road away to palm beach on a must win game for us. Palm beach had a strong side with a few players coming in for them.
We won the toss and had a bat.
Jaydn and Denly opened up and started well but unfortunately we were 1 down early which brought Scott to the crease with Jaydn and they developed a nice partnership going at a strong rate. Unfortunately, both were dismissed in the 30s. Jaydn 32 of 36 and Scott 35 off 24. Which left us 80 for 3. at the drinks break we were in s solid position and looked like we could push for a big score. However, we had a small collapse and found ourselves 8 - 110.
This left Suranga and Monib at the crease who managed to make the tail wag and got us to a 151. Suranga was left stranded on 27*.
We thought we were a little under par with that score but had faith we could defend it.
The opening spells by Ben canning and Suranga can only be described as exceptional and they ripped through the top order which gave us hope of defending this low total. Suranga was unplayable keeping it tidy and taking 2 wickets with him. 6 overs, 2 wickets for 13 runs.
At the other end ben canning was nipping the ball all over the place whilst James sterling was taking a battering by keeping up to him putting pressure to the batsmen. Jayden Denly took 2 great catches in the slips and Scott one at Gully. Ben canning ended up with 4 wickets.
Monib took over from Ben Canning and made an impact straight away taking 2 quick wickets and we really thought we were on.
A good catch by Ben Canning on the boundary to add to his day. This exceptional start meant that we had them about 8-90. We cleaned up the next 2 wickets which meant they where bowled out for 107 and we took the points. Excellent character shown by the boys and take the momentum into playing queens next week.

2nd Grade

After a week of lamentations and reflection staring following our loss at the hands of Mudgeeraba, the Bay 2s were keen to get back into winning form as we took on Palm Beach at Loxton Oval. Based on my understanding (which turned out to be incorrect) that the deck had not been rolled on match day, I was eager to win the toss and see if we could extract early movement against a strong top order. After yet another successful coin toss, I indeed elected to bowl.
As usual, Stevie ‘Weekly’ Watson took the new ball from the northern end while George Edney took the ball from the southern end. The Palmy openers made a steady start, and it took a peach of a delivery to make the first breakthrough. With the score approaching 30 without loss and some almost 7 overs being bowled, Stevie clean bowled Field through the gate and just like that, we were away. In what was perhaps Stevie’s tidiest performance with the ball this season, the young left-armer returned figures of 1-14 from his 6 overs. George, luckless as ever, toiled away without taking a wicket this week, yet his figures of 0-30 from 5 really didn’t do him justice. Despite being dragged whilst having exceptional figures, we couldn’t keep Stevie out of the game. Just as Palmy’s skipper was beginning to look ominous, Stevie pounced on a ball squeezed backward of square and hurled in a yorker-length throw to the striker’s end where Proctor did the rest to affect a much-needed run out. With just two deliveries left before drinks and with another Palm Beach batter looking well established, Teddy Gossett who featured in the 2s lineup this week owing to a return from injury, threw one up wide of off stump. In what would prove to be a pivotal brain fade, McCloy swiped across the line and skied a chance to Austin “no sunnies” Billing. As 10 of his teammates held their breath, Aus swallowed the catch which saw Palmy enter the drinks break at 3-85. The tight start from the Bay bowlers continued upon resumption of play. Harry Sullivan, who made perhaps his last appearance of the season returned understated figures of 0-37(8) while Tom crushed any hopes of a middle order fightback by returning figures of 3-27(8). I 2-22 (5), rounded out what felt like our best bowling and fielding performance of the season as Palmy finished their innings at 8-161(40). Patience, positivity and confidence characterised what was just about a flawless performance with the ball and after the previous match’s efforts this was a real turnaround. Shoutout to Connor Boyd who took two very impressive catches on the fence when none of his teammates rated him a chance in the world.
With a sub-par total to chase, Jack Hocart partnered Nathan Proctor to open our innings. The pair raced to 30 from just 7 overs, thanks for the most part to the confident stroke-play of Proctor and it felt like we weren’t far away from breaking the back of the chase. That was until Nath left a straightie that tore out his middle stump after making an aggressive 19(26). Connor Boyd who returned to the side from 1s did little to trouble the scorers with just 3(10). Not long after, Tom Gossett chipped one to cover for 7(6) and when Austin was dismissed for 1(5) the scorecard told a much different story at 4-56. Enter the man of the moment, Roberto ‘Safety’ Vittorio, While Hoc pressed the field and pierced gaps, Roberto crashed the ball to all parts and after just a few overs at the crease, had surpassed Hoc’s score. The aggressive stroke play from Roberto saw the pair enter the drinks break with the score at 4-102. Hoc and Robby continued on their way after drinks as we looked to be cruising towards an easy victory as their partnership went past 50runs. That was until Hoc was stumped for another classy knock of 35(58). Sam Heathwood replaced Hoc and thankfully kept the run rate ticking over as he displayed some aggressive intent. Sam and Roberto put on 23 before Sam was bowled for 11(13). Ted Gossett came and went for 3(7) and as I waddled to the crease, we needed just 9 runs for victory. My game plan was pretty obvious – run hard to keep Roberto on strike, avoid facing too many deliveries and if I was lucky, maybe snick us to victory. A seemingly negative game plan, but one that proved extremely effective. As I leant statuesque on my bat at the non-striker’s end, I was given the privilege of watching what turned out to be the final delivery of the day, sail over my head as it hurtled 2 bounces into the southern boundary pickets. The stroke was the 11th boundary hit by Roberto on a day where he looked in complete control from ball 1 of his innings. In a knock that won us the match and saw us claim yet another bonus point, Roberto notched up 73*(59) of the classiest, most brutal runs you’re ever likely to see in our division. Not once did Roberto slog across the line, nor did he look like getting bogged down as he clattered the Palmy attack to all parts. We will never know how much of his innings could be attributed to his use of my backup bat, but I’m confident it hasn’t been wielded like that before.
Boys this was at truly classy performance this week. To bounce back the way we did after a mediocre performance 7 days prior, was nothing short of amazing. We delivered just about a 10/10 performance with the ball and in the field and but for a slight stumble in our middle order, our batting looked pretty solid to me. With ball-in-hand, our lines and lengths were relentless and its worth noting that we only conceded 11 boundaries in our 40 overs in the field. If we keep that discipline up with the ball, there is no question in my mind that oppositions won’t to post totals we can’t chase down. Great work fellas! Lets keep the Was rolling.

3rd Grade

Today we played a home game against tambourine on Sam Loxton too. It was a hot day. We lost the toss and was sent to have a bowl. We opened the bowling with Josh and Jake Schultz. The first two overs went for 19 runs which wasn’t the best start for us at all but we sure caught it back with Josh bowling eight overs straight three wickets for 18 runs Jake Schultz Bowled and three overs one wicket for 21 after Jakey we bought Will Altass on Will Bowled extremely well five overs one for 16 and following Josh was Kuna he come in Bowled his leggies he was turning it far too much with the six wides in his three overs zero for 16 Jared Austin came on next Bowled six overs two wickets for 12 runs. Timmy Murdoch promised the world for his two over one wicket for 14 runs and Hamza came on bowling really well two overs 1 for 7. We Bowled tambourine out for 106 runs which I thought was really well considering the start they got off to and the way we clawed it back, especially with our young lads in the field were brilliant with a small total to chase which isn’t always easy Tim Murdoch and Brendan Roberts open the batting need a bother the scorers too much Timmy two of 10 balls Brendo three off two Josh Who next to the next to the crease 1 off 6. Lucas Fraser looking really really good 12 of 13 balls smashing one short cover they were a big hopes for this guy who is coming in to help out third grade due to a couple of illnesses Trent Ray club Legend come to the crease was sent packing for a first ball absolute peach top of a stump. then came Hamza I said to Hamza you need to take your time mate just stay there till the end end and we will win this game. Hamza goes and hits two fours in his first over didn’t last long. 12 runs of 10 Kuna three runs of nine balls that brings our young just turned 16 year-old Taika to the crease he played with the upmost maturity. Raffles joined Taika but didn’t stick around too long he got two of five which bought one of our other young guns Will AlTass to the crease Will took 15 balls to get off the mark which just showed the true character he is by digging deep and supporting Tiaka at the other end both of these boys played a massive role. We were 7 for 60 at the stage Taika batted superbly saving us from embarrassment getting out for 32 offers 50 balls and Will has played a huge supporting role getting out to a screamer of a catch for 8 off 42 balls Jakey Schultz Came in ran really well with red ink three not out and we were bowled out for 93 very disappointing for us our first loss of the season but the boys really learnt a lot from this

4th grade navy
Clarky wins the toss & we choose to bowl Clarky opens the bowling & bowls absolute pies in his first over but his 2nd over he remembers he is half decent at bowling.. he ended up with 2- 48 off 6 overs
Wahab is the most unluckiest blokes i know gets a bloke caught behind but the umpire (a deaf, blind penguin in human form) gives nothing. Jacko bowled bloody well & ended up with the best figures off the day with 6 overs 2 - 42
Batting Chasing 310 Jeddy finally showed us all the talent he has with an impressive 45 off 39 & has the most beautiful straight drive (pure cricket porn) in all of 4th grade.. Hamad batted 3 & is a duck on a hot plate & has to walk at everything even the ones that go past his nose but scored an impressive 30 off 38..
The part im most excited writting about FLYNNY The kid scored 47 off 69 but it was bloody impressive watching him stand tall whilst wickets fell around him & showed how much he has grown & wasnt backing down when the quicker bowlers came back. We lost by 114 but the boys stayed in the fight

4th Grade Orange

Rd 15 4s Orange
This week was our last scheduled away game for the season hopefully that doesn’t change!
We were playing the Coomera Blue team at Coomera sports park, and this week we had a very young side with only the 2 veteran 50 yr olds Col and Chris Castle and Jack (20) not being teenagers,
The day started as most weeks do with Col losing the toss and us being put into the field,
The youth in the side certainly was a huge boast for our fielding as we were up and about early and taking our chances, we also welcomed the 2 new kiwi boys Rocco & Lucas who were playing there first games for the club, lucas was fantastic in the field taking 2 great catch’s and his chasing had to see to be believed, Rocco also bowled well, both boys great additions to our club.
We got off to a great start with will bowling their first opener, then James picked up 2 wickets and we had them 3/38 off 9 overs on a fast ground, the boys were bowling very well but they managed to put on a bit of a partnership before Noah came on & grabbed his 1st wicket followed shortly after with his 2nd to have them 5/99 off 19 overs, noah bowled another fantastic spell as is the normal these days with Noah,
After a lot of requests & warm ups Angus was brought into the attack and should of had immediate impact if the skipper could of hung on to one in slip,
Unfortunately we dropped their main man a couple of times and he was making us pay a bit not just with his batting but also his constant commentary the guy could talk under water with a mouth full of marbles but it was all serious rubbish,
Angus did however strike soon after grabbing his first wicket for the season well done Gus,
6/104 we felt if we could get rid of the yappa we could keep them to a gettable score,
We fought hard but they managed to put on a partnership that we didn’t break until the 33rd over when Rocco broke through for his first wicket for the club congratulations Rocco,
7/172 and they had a set batter who was finding the boundary regularly,
The other side effect of the young side was quick a few of them had played juniors in the morning and spent 50 overs in the field already so had now spent over 80 overs in the field on a hot day that is a huge effort for anybody, and the boys were fighting hard but were getting tired,
We got to the final over and had to change bowlers with Lucas running out of overs James came on to finish the innings, we managed to keep old mate yappa 98no which we all certainly enjoyed haha but more importantly we kept them to 7/207 which we thought was very getable score on that ground,
Our bowlers all toiled well
Noah 2 / 31 off 6 ,
James 2/38 (6), Will 1/26 (6)
Angus 1/17 (4), Rocco 1/28
Quaid 0/16, Jack 9/22, Lucas 0/30.
With high hopes we sent out 2 ends of our age spectrum
Chris Castle & Harry Rachow,
unfortunately it didn’t go so well Chris (1) was out in the 1st over 1/2 and Harry(1) couldn’t repeat his heroics of last week out in the 2nd 2/3 wasn’t the start we were looking for Lucas Anderson came in to play his first innings for the club and certainly started with a bang hitting a big 6 and a couple of boundaries but unfortunately it didn’t last long enough as he was caught for a quick fire 18, 3/22 , Col joined Jack, Col(4) thought with all the teenagers around that he could run like one with his 50 yr old fragile body but tragically run himself out trying to run 3 bad luck old fella, Jack (13) was next to go after a fighting innings followed soon after by
James (4) 6/68 off 20,
Needing 140 off 16 overs was always going to be a tough ask especially with only 4 wickets remaining, Angus (17) & Rocco (16) fought hard and put on our best partnership taking the score to 88 before both Angus & Rocco fell,
This left an almost impossible task for the remaining boys,
Will(4) & Noah(1) fell shortly after as we finished on 95 unfortunately well short of the target,
It wasn’t the result we were after but it certainly wasn’t a disaster we got more games and experience into a young group of future stars for the bay,
Thanks for reading this and the support of the bay family we will see you all next week GO BAY!!

5th Grade

Bay 5th grade vs Mudgee
The mighty Bay 5th grade took on Mudgee 5th grade at Sam Loxton 5. Mudgee won the toss and elected to bat on the fastest looking top oval seen ever. Schuey struck early to get one of the openers then Mudgee settled in and at drinks were 1/93. After drinks, they put the handbrake on then the Captain decided it was time to make the runs flow so brought himself on and Mudgee started to pile the runs on, then the he 2 card trick was used by the skipper with the introduction of McGhie which seen a sudden collapse, 4 wickets in 3 overs had Mudgee now in deep trouble. They struggled to 7/167 off there 36 which was never gonna be enough on that oval. McGhie 4/35, while all bowers except for Birrell were great. Dunning and Crittenden opened the batting and got straight to work, 0-35 off 4 before Critto departed, Northam came and went and then Josh Foenander walked to the crease and belted the bowlers too all parts of the ground, assisted by Dunning they chased down the score in the 18th over with Foenander 91no off 40 and Conan 33no Another great win by the team and now second on the ladder only by NRR. Alberton next week and I’m predicting some free beers if we bat first.
Cheers GB

6th Grade

Runaway Bay 6th grade pile on the runs in commanding win
Runaway Bay delivered a batting masterclass on Saturday afternoon, piling on a huge 6/301 from 36 overs before comfortably restricting Southport Labrador to 3/197, sealing a convincing 104-run victory.
Winning the toss and electing to bat on a good Cooke Murphy surface proved the perfect call, with the top order putting Southport Labrador under pressure from the outset and never allowing them a way back into the contest.
Openers Ian Coyne and James Keith laid the platform with an outstanding first-wicket partnership of 134. Coyne played the steady hand, compiling a well-made 51 from 59 balls, while Keith provided the acceleration, striking a fluent 70 from just 53 deliveries at better than a run-and-a-half per ball.
Once the openers had set the tone, skipper Chris Schultz took centre stage. Schultz was in destructive form, blasting 63 from 36 balls, regularly finding the boundary and keeping the fielding side scrambling. His innings ensured the run rate continued to climb through the middle overs.
The innings reached another level late thanks to Dale Rachow, who finished with a superb unbeaten 63 from 41 balls. Rachow’s clean hitting and smart placement allowed Runaway Bay to surge past the 300 mark, with valuable support from Sam Brookes and Aidan Long as the total ballooned to an imposing 301.
In reply, Southport Labrador faced a tough task from ball one. Geoff Watson provided the early breakthrough, removing Joseph Heaton cheaply, and while Lachlan O’Brien showed resilience with a patient 52 retired not out, the required rate was always climbing.
A sharp run out from Dale Rachow to dismiss Luke John was a turning point, halting any momentum Southport Labrador were beginning to build. Sam Brookes also chipped in with the ball, claiming Don Gumm to further slow the chase.
Despite late hitting, Southport Labrador never seriously threatened the target, finishing on 3/197 from their 36 overs.
It was a complete team performance from Runaway Bay Orange — dominant with the bat, disciplined in the field, and composed with the ball — highlighted by four batters passing fifty and a total that proved well beyond reach. A result that will give the side plenty of confidence as the season continues.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 40’s Division 2

Rd 8 40s Div 2 vs Logan Village
Returning to Loxton 1 this week for what was a massive game against Logan Village who were in 2nd spot on the ladder but on the same points as us in 4th so a pivotal game with only 3 games to play,
We got off to a great start with Col winning the toss & us having a bat,
A bit of a reshuffle of the batting order this game we opened with Jason Hay & 1 of our new 40 yr olds Josh Hoare,
The boys got off to a good start getting to 41 from 8 overs before Josh(10) fell, Chris Schultz joined Jason & the boys continued on building a good partnership until Jason smashed a ball back down the wicket to only for the bowler to get a hand on the ball back onto the stumps tragically catching Chris short of his ground an unfortunate way to go, 2 for 67 off 14 overs we were going along well,
Being such a hot day we had a drinks break at 14 overs, Jason who had batted really well retired as he was suffering a bit from the heat, that brought our 2nd new player in Adrian Capp & Bizza together, Bizza then did what Bizza has been doing all year for us and smashed the 2nd ball he faced for a huge 6 and kept on going putting pressure back on the very good Logan attack & lifting our run rate, he was being helped but similarly impressive and aggressive Cappy who his own massive 6 into the clubhouse, the boys put together a brilliant 73 run partnership off just 55 balls to really push us along before Cappy was out for a well made 42 off 30 4 4s & 1 6 a fantastic 1st inns for us,
Clarky(6) joined Bizza but couldn’t quite get going before getting caught in the deep, 4/161 off 13.2 overs to go we were in a position to really launch and get up around the 250 mark which would be a huge score as the ground was playing pretty slow compared to normal,
But unfortunately we suffered a small collapse losing Lee(0), Bizza for a well made 48 off 38 2 4s & 3 6s great innings Bizz, and then Trav (0) as we slumped to 7/164 losing 4/3,
Col & Conan got together to start a fight back and try and get us to 200 but Conan (1) fell at 171 , Critto joined Col and the boys took us to 200 before Col was stumped trying to lift the tempo, Jason then returned & with Critto put on a very valuable partnership taking us to 9/226 which we thought was a great Score in the conditions, Jason finished unbeaten 55 off 57 with 6 4s and fantastic effort, Critto 25 no did a great job getting us to the total,
After Lunch we took to the field to defend our score,
Opening up with Schuey & Josh, starting brilliantly the boys were all over them reducing them to 2/7 with a wicket each, then Schuey struck twice more with his 3rd LBW the benefit of bowling very straight, 4/28, Schuey finishing his spell 5 overs 3/21 great effort, Duane came into the attack with immediate effect removing a dangerous hitter 5/50 then became 6/50 when Josh grabbed his 2nd wicket in his last over finishing 7 fantastic overs 2/27,
We were well on top but as good teams do Logan fought back putting on a partnership that got them back into the game, we managed to
Break the partnership with an outstanding catch from Trav off Jason’s bowling 7/98 off 24 was still a great spot to be but still some work to do as Logan continued to fight back, it had been a long and very hot day but the boys worked even harder to try & knock over Logan who were just as determined to get the job done,
Another very good partnership took them through to 161 off 34 overs, still needing 66 off 36 balls, the ball was thrown to Clarky who struck 2nd ball and then bowled a great spell along with Cappy at the other end to close out the game with Logan finishing 8/197 giving us very solid hard fought win over a very good side, Thanks go to Logan Village boys who played the game in great spirit,
Our bowling
Schuey 3/21(5) Josh 2/27(7)
Duane 1/22 (4) Jason 1/19(4)
Clarky 1/16(3) Trav 0/19(7)
Bizza 0/21(2) Chris 0/22(4)
Cappy 0/29(4)
Great effort by the boys & a great result pretty much locks us in for finals with 2 games to go, thanks for reading and we will see you all again in a couple of weeks GO BAY!!
Over 40’s Division 3

The Bay 40/3 were up against the Waterford Warriors on Loxton - 2
We new it would be a very close game due to our similar positions on the ladder .
With 20 wickets falling in 3rd grade on Saturday for under 200 runs Bobby Menzies had almost convinced me to bowl first if winning the Toss .
The Waterford Warriors won the Toss and sent the Bay in regardless .
Brad and Gazz opened up with Brad getting a peach and departing early with Jim joining Gazz for a very solid partnership with Jimmy Retiring with a quick fire 51 from 57 balls .
Sean joined Gazz with Gazz Retiring on 50 also from 67 balls with Bob joining Sean .
Bob hit a quick fire 17 from 12 balls before departing with Hamad doing the same with 17 from 14 balls with Sean retiring on 50 from 63 Balls .
The Bay ended our 40 overs 6 /224 which was a very healthy score .
The Waterford Warriors had to come out swinging from the 1st over , which they did launching us to all parts of the oval before Darren Redmayne struck twice and helped slow things down a little. .
We kept mixing the bowling up but the Warriors had us covered at ever move chasing the runs down in the 33rd over 3 down .
A great game of cricket played in the true spirit of the game by both sides with a few Cold Beers shared after the game .
Cheers .
Matty .
