Under 10’s Orange
Under 10’s Orange vs Coomera Stars
Fresh off team photos, the Runaway Bay U10’s Orange team presented sharply dressed and with a couple of schmick hairdos. Look out Ladies! … or should I say Look out Coomera Stars, because the boys came out looking like they’d hit six from six in Tattslotto, and had just picked up their super sized cheque from the lotto authority. With Neil rocking up at 5:58.30pm, we had to ask Trudi for a special out of hours shoot and some hi tech photoshop work to pop him in the team photo. So we had 10 kids, and 20 overs. They bowl 2 overs each and face 12 balls. Simple!
Seeing as everyone has now had a go, a new captaincy decider had Lucius correctly guessing 7 (that Elijahs dad set after selecting a number between 1 and 10), and we got to work. Lucius flipped the bat they incorrectly called hills and we elected to chase. After the coach cleared his alzheimers and worked out that the bowling line up is the reverse of the batting line up, we got the field right with 2 boys waiting on the sidelines for their chance (or walking off and forgetting about the game, you choose…).
Fairly miserly bowling by our boys with Coomera only manging 44 after their first 10 overs. No one got hit and no one really ran through them either, except for Neil, with his wicked outies claiming 2/0 off his first over and finishing with 3/4 off his two. Zac picked up 1/6 off his 2 overs, James took 1/7, Elijah got 1/8, Charlie snapped up 1/12 and Billy also claimed 1/13. No one went for much more than a run a ball and as a result we kept the “Stars” to 8/94 off their 20 overs.
The long Friday evenings seem to be taking their toll on the young Bay prodigies, as there were a few lapses in concentration in the field. The most difficult we found was when it was time to come back on the field after rotating off for two overs. Understandably, it’s difficult to switch back on after relaxing for a bit, so there was a lot of standing around looking at the horizon and chatting about nothing in the field tonight. Luckily it didn’t cost us too much. Stellar effort otherwise, with a catch and 4 runouts tonight. A couple of chances went begging, but they were difficult ones. Charlie took our sole catch for the match, Lucius affected 2 runouts (1 direct hit), while Elijah (Direct) and Abhi got the other run outs.
We started our chase with a very top-heavy bating line up, but the boys all did their jobs. The first four of Lucius (15), Charlie (20), Elijah (20) and Zac (15) all got off to strong starts, but it was Abhi who summoned his inner Yuvraj Singh and smacked their bowlers everywhere for a punishing 28 to turn the tide of the game and put it out of Coomera’s reach. Luke and James also chipped in at the end with scores in double figures, and the Bay brought it home 6 down with 136 in the book against a very disciplined bowling and fielding Coomera Stars outfit.
Another good win by the good guys, and once again there were no passengers. Another all-round even contribution and superb team effort. Abhi was our player of the match this week, after getting his best score (28) for the season, 0/13 off his 2 overs with only one cone ball, and the sharp runout. He seems to have his best games when his brother fills in for the opposition team as he did admirably again tonight.
So there’s 5 games to go. Plenty of highlights to come, so I hope to see you all there on game nights and training where possible. Copy/paste from last week: there might be some sport cross over time slot clashes coming up regarding training and game nights. If this happens, please let me know as early as possible so we can juggle around the teams if required, to ensure that we have at least 8 for every game.
Well done again boys, Go The Bay!
Under 10’s Orange
This week our navy team came up against a strong Coomera side. It was evident from the start that we had our work cut out with Coomera completing full warm up drills while our team looked to be having a handstand competition.
Spencer won the toss and elected to bowl first. We started off with a flyer with Jack taking 2 fantastic catches in the initial overs off Lara and Owen. Owen was again a solid performer with 3 wickets for 1 run in his first 2 overs. Finn's overs produced a run out and Carter bowled the best we've seen from him this year with stump to stump bowling producing a bowled wicket in his first delivery of the game. Well done Carter!! Lara and Tobi both kept us on top with brilliant stump to stump bowling! Spencer, Wyatt and Hudson's occasional leggy also produced great overs and in the end we kept the other side to 122 runs. Both parents and the coach of the opposition commended us on our bowling with hardly any cone balls, and said 'it was the best bowling outfit they've come across this year!! '
With the bat we got off to a flyer with Jack and Finn both hitting 20 runs a piece. Good hitting boys! What was interesting for the coach to observe was the fact that Finn decided to bat left handed on this occasion which had us scratching our heads as he was middling everything but we’re sure he's batted right handed in the past. - anyway..... if it ain't broke.... don't fix it.... so I'd say we'd like him to remain a lefty for the rest of the season!! Wyatt hit another few important boundaries producing a handy 20 and Carter was solid with good calls and cheeky singles keeping the scorecard ticking over. Hudson also contributed with some great 4's, and Tobi, Spencer, Owen and Lara all played well against an oiled up bowling attack! whilst we fell a few short, our team gave it a good crack ending up with 105 for our total.
Another great game and with the bowling under wraps we can make a few adjustments to boost our batting this week!! Well done team and great effort!

Under 11’s

Under 11s v Coomera
We were at home on Saturday on Loxton 3 our Skipper of the day was Vansh we lost the toss and were sent into have a bat, To much of our players delight our Club President put on the frogbox so those who could not make it could watch on TV so to say the kids on both sides were buzzing was an understatement.
We opened the Batting with Sadie and Zach both these 2 batted well Zach trying to hit every ball into the next suburb ended on 6 off 14 and Sadie playing some classy shots off her legs and not looking like getting out at all, Vansh and Arthur were the next batters to the crease Vansh playing a lovely straight drive down the ground to the long boundary for 4 and Arthur playing an absolute beautifully timed cover drive which was the shot of the game Vansh finishing 14 off 14 and Arthur 9 off13, Next in was Ziggy and Reuben both boys running really well and playing well timed shots both hitting a 4 each Ziggy 10 off 13 and Reuben 13 off 13, Callum, Harry and Alex were the next lot in Callum playing another nice innings with 24 off 13 hitting 1 four and Harry I thought played one of his best innings this season 12 off 13 Alex played well at the end with 5 off 13 We finished our 20 overs on 121
We opened the bowling with Ziggy and Callum Ziggy going for 7 off his 2 overs and Callum 18 off his 2 Alex came on and bowled exceptionally well for 5 off his 2 Arthur followed suit and bowled a really tight 2 overs for 4, Reuben and Vansh were next on Reuben 8 off 2 and Vansh our only wicket taker of the day 2 for 10 off 2 bowled with great accuracy Zach and Sadie bowling 3 overs each Zach really nice and tight going for only 12 runs while Sadie bowling magnificently for 13 Harry wicket kept in the first 10 and a big shout out to him done a great job taking a catch while his bowling figures were 9 off his 2, our other 2 wickets came from direct hit runouts from Callum we kept Coomera to 118 winning by 3 runs
Player of the Day Sadie with a great all round performance

Under 13’s Division 2

Match Report: Runaway Bay Seagulls U13 vs. Coomera Hope Island Blue
It was a tough day out for the Seagulls in the Under 13 Division 2 clash.
Despite some gritty individual performances, the challenge of playing short-handed proved a bit too much to overcome against a clinical Coomera Hope Island Blue side.
The Result
* Coomera Hope Island Blue: 6-147
* Runaway Bay Seagulls: 6-112
* Result: Coomera Hope Island Blue won by 4 wickets.
Batting Highlights
The Seagulls showed great resilience in the middle and lower order. After some early wickets fell, a few players dug in to ensure the team batted out their overs and reached a respectable triple-digit total.
Lachlan was the anchor of the innings, finishing 31 not out* from 62 balls. His patience and ability to hold one end up was crucial and this becoming his new highest score. Congratulations!
Nash provided excellent support with a brisk 24 not out*, including 4 boundaries, helping to push the total to 112.
Charlie contributed a solid 13 runs to help steady the ship during the middle overs.
Bowling Performance:
Defending 112 was always going to be a tall order, but the bowlers made Coomera work for every run.
Hudson was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets while maintaining a very tight economy rate of 3.00. Olive also bowled beautifully without luck, conceding only 9 runs in her 3 overs, including a maiden. Fletcher also cashed in with 2 for 26 off 3.3 overs.
Player of the match went to Lachlan for his outstanding batting effort and some very tidy wicket keeping.

Under 13’s Division 1

Runaway bay vs Broadbeach
We won the toss and had the boys decided to have a crack with the bat.
Our openers set the scene with Josh and Kade seeing out a good amount of overs, the runs started to come with boys playing some great shots then Josh fell to a catch at mid on.
Zach came in and settled nicely. The boys worked well through the partnership. The runs again started to come, Zach cracked a beautiful
4 and fell two balls later to a slower delivery.
Oliver came in and supported Kade scoring quickly for a few overs however fell cheap to a ball that popped up. Kade and Benji settled to drinks.
1st ball after drinks Kade was out off a solid edge and a great catch. Benji and Archie settled and saw out a good amount of overs chipping away at the runs. Archie played some lovely scoring shots before a huge top edge had him walking.
From hear each of the boys really dug in. Robert and Benji built a good partnership. Benji and Will did a great job hanging around a keeping the runs moving. Benji will want his near 6 added in here also! Nice shot mate.
The partnership of the day has to be Robert and Alfie. With plenty of overs remaining they really took their opportunity with 2 hands. Loud calls between the wickets, great defence and super positive attitudes dealing with the banter. Robert saw out 70 balls and Alfie 50.
Runs are a bonus, sometimes they come sometimes they don’t. To see out our 50 overs is an awesome effort. The experience gained from time in the middle is priceless.
Robert fell in the 45th over leaving Cooper with a good amount of time to have a crack with a bit of freedom and no pressure. A tidy delivery unfortunately had him cheap however playing one down gave him another opportunity. He reset and went again. Scoring 18 off 20 seeing out the innings and adding valuable runs to our total.
We have a decent total to defend but more importantly some moments in the game showed the boys have developed over the season. Some went cheap but that happens.
They played shots well, used their voice and ran between wickets. If the ball bounces a different way we may have jagged 200 plus.
Success doesn’t have to be on the scoreboard, there were some great moments from each individual. Even the way the boys handled getting out, shows they care but they also showed maturity knowing they’ll get another crack soon.
Boys will no doubt be keen to have a big effort in the field.
Cheers

Open Turf Division 1

Lucy and Taika set the platform as Seagulls post strong first-innings total
The Runaway Bay Seagulls Opens Div 1 side laid a solid foundation on Day 1 of their two-day fixture against Helensvale, posting 5/232 from 50 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat. With the ball to be taken next weekend, the Seagulls will head into the break confident they’ve put a competitive total on the board.
For the second week in a row, the innings was built around an excellent opening partnership between Lucy Logan and Taika Hoare, who combined patience with controlled aggression to take the game forward. Lucy was the anchor, batting deep into the innings for a composed 69 from 164 balls, showing great discipline and resilience against a probing Helensvale attack. Her innings ensured stability at the top and allowed others to bat around her.
At the other end, Taika, off the back of a century last weekend, provided the spark. Playing with freedom and intent, he raced to a classy 73 from just 70 deliveries, striking at over a run a ball and keeping the scoreboard moving throughout his stay. His dismissal shortly after passing fifty brought an end to a crucial stand that firmly swung momentum Runaway Bay’s way.
After a brief middle-order wobble, Aidan Long steadied things nicely with a valuable 29, rotating the strike and pushing the total beyond 200. Late in the innings, skipper Jake Schultz and A.J. Francesconi added important late runs, finishing unbeaten with quick-fire cameos that lifted the Seagulls to their final total.
Extras also played a role, with Helensvale conceding 38, adding further pressure as the innings wore on.
With 232 on the board, Runaway Bay will be looking to make early inroads with the ball next weekend and put Helensvale under pressure from the outset. The batting group has done its job — now attention turns to a disciplined bowling performance to take control of the match on Day 2.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

vs Alberton
For our 2nd last game of the H & A season and we played Alberton @ Loxton 1,
down some troops through injury & unavailability we had some faces Craig McGhie, Nathan Rudd, Greg Bird & Matt Cunningham coming into our side,
Winning the toss we had a bat and started with Chipper & Conan,
Chipper didn’t hang around long which brought Cappy to the crease & it didn’t take long for him to get into his work showing his class making batting look very easy as he slayed the bowling to all parts of Loxton 1,
The partnership was 75 when Cappy who had raced to his 50 off just 33 balls retired, 7 4s
Col joined Conan who had played the feeder role for Cappy beautifully getting him back on strike & continued doing so as the score continued to tick over and the boys put on a 47 run partnership before disaster struck when Col smashed one back at the bowler who got fingers to it but the ball continued on to clip the top of the stumps with Conan unfortunately short of his ground, its the 2nd time in as many games this has happened to us might need to stay in our crease boys haha,
2/135 off 21 overs we were on track for a good score, Birdy came to the crease & quickly got into his flow increasing the run rate with some great strikes finding the fence with ease,
With Bizza the late arrival pacing up and down the fence chomping at the bit to get at them, Col struck a boundary to get to his 50 (55)
Bringing Bizza to the wicket with 1 ball remaining in the 30th over which he proceeded to smash to the fence, 2/205 with 10 overs to go,
A few balls later Birdy retired getting his 50 off just 34 balls 6 4s & 1 huge 6 over the long on fence,
it was all set up for a Bizza Show & he started well smashing 3 boundaries before being deceived by the cunning old fox bowling very slow looping off breaks & just like that the show was over 14 off 9 was a very rare fail for Bizz,
Trav was at the crease with clarky but Trav (15) went Lbw,
That left Rudd & Clarky with the finishing job which that did a fantastic job a great partnership of 36 off 25 balls Ruddy 20(18) & Clarky 19(16) getting us to 4/282 our best score for the year,
After another fantastic lunch we took to the field missing our 3 opening bowlers so far this year so we had to mix it up a bit, and that we did opening with Birdy & Bizza
the first 2 overs were fantastic 0/5 but unfortunately the Alberton batters found their range in the next couple Birdy’s 11 ball 2nd over not helping haha followed by some strong hitting from the Alberton skipper,
Bizza struck back in his 3rd getting the other opener well caught by Ruddy, Bizza 1/19 (4) a good spell
At 1/36 Craig came into the attack he was a bit nervous with his first bowl on turf for 12 yrs,
the alberton batters were really getting going and taking it to our bowlers,
10 overs in 1/77 and their skipper retired for a very hard hitting 50,
The boys managed to start pegging them back as Craig settled into his work grabbing his first wicket sliding a fantastic in-swinger into off stump, 2/99 and shortly after 3/118 with Craig striking again He finished with the figures of 2/41 off 7,
Straight after drinks we brought on the spin twins Trav & Ruddy and this is were the game changed with both bowling extremely well and squeezing Alberton’s middle order the boys combined for 7 wickets between them Trav 4/13 (5.4) & Ruddy 3/15 (5) to snuff out any chance of a chase, Cappy 0/5 also bowled 2 great overs of off spin as well as Clarky 3 good overs at the end as we bowled out Alberton for 185 a very strong win which puts us into 2nd spot & a big chance at a home final,
Thanks for all the support we got at the game especially all the hard work support crew Kel, Mel, Hamish, and off course our fantastic ground curator thanks Phil, we look forward to seeing you all again in 2 weeks time when we play Coomera !!
