Open Turf Division 1

Div 1 Open Turf
With Lucy representing Queensland this weekend, Hamish out with an injury and Taika in New Zealand we were struggling to field a team. A few text messages later and we had Morgan Carter and Aran Silva to save the day and were available to play.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Bay produced an excellent bowling display to restrict Palm Beach to 5/136 from their 20 overs. The star of the show was Toby Hudson, who delivered a match-winning spell of 3/15 from just 3 overs, including the crucial wicket of Palm Beach captain Theo Nikolich after his impressive 68. William Altass (1/23) and Noah McQueen (1/26) provided excellent support, while captain Jake Schultz, Stephen Watson, and Morgan Carter bowled economically to keep the opposition in check.
The fielding was sharp throughout, with Flynn Richardson, Noah McQueen, and Jake Schultz all taking important catches at crucial moments.
Chasing 137 for victory, the team showed great character despite losing early wickets. Morgan Carter led from the front with a composed 33 off 38 balls, building a vital 63-run partnership with Toby Hudson (17) to bring the team back into the contest. Flynn Richardson's aggressive 13 off 14 balls kept the required run rate within reach, while captain Jake Schultz remained unbeaten on 11, fighting until the end.
Runaway Bay put in a spirited performance but fell just 21 runs short against Palm Beach Div 1 at Sam Loxton Oval 1 on Saturday morning.
While the result didn't go their way this time, there were plenty of positives to take from the match. The bowling attack was outstanding, particularly Toby's exceptional figures, and the team showed resilience with the bat to stay competitive throughout the chase. With performances like these, the team will be confident heading into their next fixture.

Lucy Logan was just seven-years-old when her Mum signed her up to Blasters at the Bay.
She does all the little and right things to precision. And this week, the score finally took care of itself.
Lucy flew to Tasmania to take her place in the Queensland Under 16's team. A dream she has held close since that very first match.
How can you not be romantic about cricket?

Under 13’s Division 1

Runaway bay U13 Div 1 vs Surfers
Back into cricket after a much deserved break.
The boys were pretty excited and ready to have a crack at their first 1 day match for the season.
We lost the toss and were sent into Bat, we were all pretty happy with this.
Surfers cashed in early and got a run out in the second over. A slower delivery managed another in the 4th and we were 2/6. Great keeping after a spin delivery had another go in the 8th.
The bounce of the ball wasn’t going our way, it’s important to have moments like that for the boys to understand the importance of concentration and having a plan.
3 more wickets fell in quick succession in the 9th 11th and 12th overs. The pressure was def on with us sitting on 6/14. Robert and Ollie settled the innings and chipped away at the runs. Robert hung around long enough to allow himself to have a bit of freedom which was great to see. He got unlucky with a top edge and fell to a great catch.
Our remaining batters came in and had a crack and we finished our overs 9/59.
Not a huge total but on a very thick outfield it was still a total.
We hit the field with energy as always. With a low ish total we needed to restrict our extras. We did that pretty well. We did give surfers some easy scoring opportunities with our shorter length deliveries but that’s all good, it often creates opportunities.
Surfers reach our total in the 13th over, we continued the game and I’m glad we did.
It was played in great spirit and the extra 10 overs of practise against a quality team will set the boys up for the remainder of the season. We gave the ability to match it with them just need some luck on the day. Boys had smiles on their faces, gotta be happy with that!
Player of the match went to Robert! Played some great shots and helped settle the innings.
Well done everyone.

Under 11’s

Under 11s v Queens Well after a long awaited return to cricket after a long xmas break our little superstars went down to southport primary to take on the undefeated Queens under 11s, Ziggy was our captain and won the bat toss and decided to have a bowl, only having the 6 players on Saturday we were welcomed with two super subs being Harrys younger brother Owen and Alexs brother Zac these two boys fielded 10 overs each and bowled 1 over each which was a massive help to our side so thanks lads We opened the bowling with Arthur and Ziggy, Arthur bowling 2 overs a very tight spell 0-5 While Ziggy bowling his 4 overs 1-10, Next into the attack was Reuben who came back like he had been training all xmas break bowling his 4 overs 3-17, Alex was next in who bowled his leggies as well as a couple of change up balls bowling well for 17 off 3 overs, Harry was next into the attack combining well with younger brother Owen who took an excellent diving catch for Harrys wicket, Harry Bowled well 3 overs 1-8, Callum bowled a very tight 2 overs 1 wicket for 2 runs, Owen bowled 1 over got a great caught and bowled bowling great line and length 1 wicket for 1 run and Zac bowled 1 over for 3, Callum and Arthur shared the wicket keeping and both done an exceptional job. We know we had to run well between the wickets as it looked like the grass hadn’t been mowed in a few months and boundaries were going to be hard to get we opened the batting with the 2 cousins Arthur and Harry and these 2 lads didn’t miss a beat clearly the backyard cricket over the holidays had paid off with the 2 boys running excellently between the wickets Arthur finishing on 16 and Harry 14 Reuben was next in and kept the tempo up running extremely well finishing on 11 Callum came in and played a great knock hitting the only boundary of the innings and also running well finishing on 21. Ziggy was next to the crease and after a tough start with some good bowling held his composure and gained confidence ending on 13 Alex came in and took a nasty one on the thigh after walking it off showing great courage running really well finished on 10, Our boys played extremely well together and won a good game of cricket against a team that were undefeated Player of the day Callum and Owen

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 50’s

🏏 Over 50s Grudge Match: Orange 🍊 vs Navy ⚓ – Rain, Ribs & Runaway Bay Legends! 😂🌧️
Sunday saw one of the most highly anticipated, hotly contested and politely argued grudge matches in recent Runaway Bay history, as our two Over 50s sides – Orange vs Navy – finally went head-to-head. Some say rivalries are born… this one has been brewing for years 🍻😄
Mother Nature clearly wanted a say in the result, with persistent rain forcing the covers on and off Sam Loxton Oval more times than a bad game of musical chairs ☔🪑. Navy batted first, with their innings interrupted repeatedly, including an early lunch that had a few of the old fellas quietly packing up their chairs thinking “that’s us done for the day” 😴🧓
But surprise, surprise… the unbelievable drainage of Sam Loxton Oval had other ideas! The game was back on quicker than a Tiger Blacktop bouncer 🐅💥
Batting in tricky conditions, Navy never quite found top gear and limped to 5/69 off a shortened 28 overs. Early wickets fell cheaply and despite efforts to steady the ship, the foot never quite went down.
Best with the willow for Navy were:
🥥 Ian “Coco” Coyne – 12
🧠 Brian Olsen – 11*
🧙♂️ Craig “Harry” Secombe – 11*
With the ball, Orange were sharp as ever.
🎯 Terry “Tiger” Blacktop was once again on the prowl, snaring 2/18 off 5 overs, while 🎬 The Big Show Michael Kennedy delivered a tight spell of 1/5 off 5 overs – box office stuff!
The innings wasn’t short on entertainment either, with plenty of friendly banter flying between club legends who, remarkably, had never crossed paths on the cricket field before. Let’s just say the mouths were moving faster than the feet 😜🗣️
Chasing a modest total, Orange wasted no time, clearly determined to finish the job before the rain clouds regrouped ☁️⚡.
🔥 Colin “The Wild Thing” Wakefield led the charge with a classy 36*, well supported by 🪨 Brendan “The Gravel Polisher” Ball who chipped in with a solid 20. Game over before the covers could blink!
In the end, it was a cracking day of cricket played in great spirit by a top bunch of blokes. The post-match was just as important as the match itself, with plenty of fat chewed, stories told and cold drinks enjoyed 🍺😎
Same time next week, gents?
Cheers! 🏏👏
