Under 10’s Orange vs Coomera Renegades

And we’re back, and into the second half of the season as the calendar ticked over into 2026!!! First up for the Mini Bay Orange team was a promising Coomera Renegades team.  Neil is still away in India and Abhi was AWOL, so we had eight young men that were chomping at the bit to get into the cricket again.  Billy was our captain this week and after a perfect bat flip he won the toss and elected to field (because Coomera only had 5 ready to go).

Billy’s lineup of bowlers through their first rotation of overs had restricted Coomera to a measly 9 runs off 8 overs.  Easily our best effort of the year.  With a wash out on Tuesday cancelling training, the boys hadn’t had an official session since early December.  Not that it showed, our boys bowled as well as they have all season, and only allowed 39 cone balls off the allotted 20 overs.  It sure looked like most of them had been doing some practice at home bowling to dad or other family members.  Best bowling figures went to Zac who took 2/2 off his 2 overs, Lucius took 2/6 off 2, Lucas continued his improved form with 2/16 off 3 which included his first maiden over, and Charlie and Birthday Boy Elijah (Happy Birthday Elijah!!!) each took two a piece with 2/16 (3) and 2/28 (3) respectively.  Yaqub and James also claimed a wicket each with very economical bowling figures as well. Off their 20 overs, Coomera had staggered their way to 97 and had lost 12 wickets along the way.

If you’ve been reading along in these previous reports this may sound like a copy/paste, but the boys fielding was once again outstanding. Just spitballing here, but no training might’ve been the tonic, as our catching was almost perfect, Lucius took 2 catches, Charlie chalked up another and the skipper gripped his first one for the year to cap off a great effort.  4 bowled, 4 caught and 4 run outs, for an even spread of wickets.

In our chase, it was another even batting effort with almost everyone hitting double figures. Charlie filled his boots and raised his black bat with a typical Charlie-styled 51 (or 55 depending on which scorebook you read), which included a 7 and a hit wicket.  Lucius (27) and James (20) both topped 20 runs and almost everyone else hit 10 or more.  Runaway Bay tallied 5/169 in reply for a resounding win.

Another good win by the young fellas, and once again there were no passengers. Another all-round even contribution and team effort.  Can’t say that training was the conduit this time, so congratulations this week goes to the Mums, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunties Cousins and next door neighbours who sent one down or faced up over the break. With plenty of great performances again, it was hard to decide, but James got our player of the match this week.  James’ batting was solid at the top facing the new rock, his fielding was top drawer with another run out, and looks like he’s put a tonne of work in over the break after sending down some well-controlled leggies to add another string to his bow.

Thanks to all who came along the Christmas party a few weeks ago, hope you had a good time and enjoyed the food and the entertainment, and a special thanks to Charlie’s dad, Andrew, for scoring this week. With 11 rounds in the book, we have 7 games to go.  No doubt, plenty of highlights to come, so I hope to see you all there on game nights and training where possible.  Understandably, there might be some sport cross over time slot clashes coming up regarding training and game nights. If this happens, please let me know as early as possible so we can juggle around the teams if required to ensure that we have at least 8 for every game.

Well done again boys, Go The Bay!

Under 10’s Navy

This week was our first round back after a long spell. It was obvious from the get go that our team members have watched hours of test match cricket and big bash over the holidays.

We elected to bowl against Coomera and dominated from the first ball. Our bowling was tight with very few cone balls, making the game flow and putting pressure on the batsman to score . All our players kept the pressure on and runs were hard to come by. Noticeable mentions with the ball were from Finn, Spencer, Carter, Hudson and Lara all having 2 over spells with very few runs conceded, keeping Coomera pinned to a total of 76 runs.

With the bat we dominated, with Wyatt and Carter getting us off to a flyer! Both scoring in the 20's. Owen and Toby chipped in with handy scores, with the player of match going to Jack for some big hitting over cow corner, slapping anything that was bowled on leg stump. Navy finished with 131 passing Coomera's score in the 12th over. Well done team! Another cracking Win

Harry wicket kept the first 10 overs took a couple of knocks on the body and arms but shook it of well Bowled his two overs zero for 18 Reuben was wicked keeper in the last 10 overs. He also kept well. We kept Coomera to 136. we opened the batting with Callum and Ruben Callum facing 16 balls for 25 runs done really well a lot of shots down leg side with Three boundaries Reuben nine runs off his 18 balls. Ziggy come in and blasted a four and was 11 of 17 Sadie batted well nine runs off here 18 Harry Ray I think he batted the best he batted all year 17 of his 17 and Arthur 10 and Alex 3 We lost a few too many wickets unfortunately and lost by a couple of runs, but our man of the match with a direct hit run out consistent batting and bowling as usual was Arthur.

Under 13’s Division 2

Today we played a home game against tambourine on Sam Loxton too. It was a hot day. We lost the toss and was sent to have a bowl. We opened the bowling with Josh and Jake Schultz. The first two overs went for 19 runs which wasn’t the best start for us at all but we sure caught it back with Josh bowling eight overs straight three wickets for 18 runs Jake Schultz Bowled and three overs one wicket for 21 after Jakey we bought Will Altass on Will Bowled extremely well five overs one for 16 and following Josh was Kuna he come in Bowled his leggies he was turning it far too much with the six wides in his three overs zero for 16 Jared Austin came on next Bowled six overs two wickets for 12 runs. Timmy Murdoch promised the world for his two over one wicket for 14 runs and Hamza came on bowling really well two overs 1 for 7. We Bowled tambourine out for 106 runs which I thought was really well considering the start they got off to and the way we clawed it back, especially with our young lads in the field were brilliant with a small total to chase which isn’t always easy Tim Murdoch and Brendan Roberts open the batting need a bother the scorers too much Timmy two of 10 balls Brendo three off two Josh Who next to the next to the crease 1 off 6. Lucas Fraser looking really really good 12 of 13 balls smashing one short cover they were a big hopes for this guy who is coming in to help out third grade due to a couple of illnesses Trent Ray club Legend come to the crease was sent packing for a first ball absolute peach top of a stump. then came Hamza I said to Hamza you need to take your time mate just stay there till the end end and we will win this game. Hamza goes and hits two fours in his first over didn’t last long. 12 runs of 10 Kuna three runs of nine balls that brings our young just turned 16 year-old Taika to the crease he played with the upmost maturity. Raffles joined Taika but didn’t stick around too long he got two of five which bought one of our other young guns Will AlTass to the crease Will took 15 balls to get off the mark which just showed the true character he is by digging deep and supporting Tiaka at the other end both of these boys played a massive role. We were 7 for 60 at the stage Taika batted superbly saving us from embarrassment getting out for 32 offers 50 balls and Will has played a huge supporting role getting out to a screamer of a catch for 8 off 42 balls Jakey Schultz Came in ran really well with red ink three not out and we were bowled out for 93 very disappointing for us our first loss of the season but the boys really learnt a lot from this

Runaway Bay vs Helensvale/Southport Match Report

Runaway Bay Bowling Performance Runaway Bay produced a strong and disciplined bowling and fielding performance, applying consistent pressure throughout the innings and working together as a team to secure all ten wickets for 149.

The innings began perfectly for Runaway Bay, with A. Joshi striking early to remove Z. Kingsley, setting the tone and giving the team early momentum. The bowlers then settled into a great rhythm, building pressure through tight lines and lengths. W. Walsh and O. Devlin each claimed key wickets at important moments to halt developing partnerships and keep the run rate in check. H. Maywald delivered an excellent spell, picking up two crucial wickets in quick succession, while Z. Benson and R. Elger both contributed with well-earned breakthroughs.

The fielding effort matched the quality of the bowling, highlighted by sharp catches from J. Schultz, B. Harper, K. Jameson, and a great run-out involving A. Johnson. These moments in the field showed strong awareness, teamwork, and commitment from everyone.

As the innings progressed, Runaway Bay stayed focused and composed, continuing to take regular wickets and never allowing the opposition to fully settle. O. Devlin capped off the innings in style, finishing with a catch and bowl to close out a complete team performance.

Overall, it was a terrific bowling and fielding display from Runaway Bay, with every player contributing in some way. The energy, teamwork, and positive attitude shown throughout the innings were a real highlight and something the whole group can be proud of. Thanks everyone for making it happen.

Open Turf Division 1

Seagulls keep Suns in check on Day 1

The Runaway Bay  Opens Div 1 side produced a disciplined and largely dominant bowling display on Day 1 of their two-day clash against Springwood Suns Heat at Oliver Sporting Complex, restricting the hosts to 9/202 from their 50 overs after winning the toss and electing to bowl.

On a true turf wicket and under clear skies, the Seagulls’ plan was simple: apply pressure early, build dot balls, and force mistakes — and for long periods, it worked to perfection.

The new ball pair of Stephen Watson and skipper Jake Schultz set the tone immediately, conceding very little and making runs hard to come by. Watson was particularly miserly, opening with four overs that yielded just 14 runs, while Schultz probed relentlessly and was rewarded later with a wicket.

The breakthrough arrived in the 11th over when Toby Hudson rattled Riley Cook’s stumps, removing a dangerous opener for 26 and giving Runaway Bay early momentum. From there, the Seagulls tightened the screws through the middle overs with sharp bowling changes and energetic fielding.

Rocco Fisher, playing his first match for the Seagulls, impressed immediately with a tidy and controlled spell of leg spin through the middle overs. He kept the Springwood batters contained and asked constant questions, with his sharp wrong’un causing plenty of trouble. A very encouraging start in Runaway Bay colours.

William Altass was outstanding in the engine room, claiming 2/31 from 10 overs, including the key wicket of Kade Watson after a patient 70-ball stay. His spell was built on control, movement, and relentless pressure. Quaid Rogersprovided the cutting edge later in the innings, finishing with 3/37, repeatedly striking just as Springwood looked to accelerate.

Springwood’s best resistance came from Mario Mereghetti, whose counter-attacking 61 off 63 balls threatened to swing momentum. However, Runaway Bay responded superbly — slowing the scoring, hitting the stumps, and eventually seeing Will bowl Mereghetti to halt the charge.

The fielding effort was a highlight throughout the day, none more so than an absolutely outrageous catch from Noah McQueen. Stationed on the ring, McQueen launched himself skyward to pluck a one-handed screamer out of nowhere — a moment that lifted the entire side and drew gasps from players and spectators alike. A genuine contender for catch of the season.

Late wickets ensured Springwood never fully broke free, with Schultz, A.J. Francesconi, and Rogers all chipping in as the Suns were closed out for 202.

With the ball shared around, energy high, and key moments seized, the Seagulls will head into Day 2 confident they’ve laid a strong platform. The task now is clear: build smart partnerships, bat with intent, and turn a solid bowling performance into a match-winning result. With only eight players next week everyone is going to have to perform.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 40’s Division 2

Rd 8 40s Div 2 vs Logan Village

Returning to Loxton 1 this week for what was a massive game against Logan Village who were in 2nd spot on the ladder but on the same points as us in 4th so a pivotal game with only 3 games to play,

We got off to a great start with Col winning the toss & us having a bat,

A bit of a reshuffle of the batting order this game we opened with Jason Hay & 1 of our new 40 yr olds Josh Hoare,

The boys got off to a good start getting to 41 from 8 overs before Josh(10) fell, Chris Schultz joined Jason & the boys continued on building a good partnership until Jason smashed a ball back down the wicket to only for the bowler to get a hand on the ball back onto the stumps tragically catching Chris short of his ground an unfortunate way to go, 2 for 67 off 14 overs we were going along well,

Being such a hot day we had a drinks break at 14 overs, Jason who had batted really well retired as he was suffering a bit from the heat, that brought our 2nd new player in Adrian Capp & Bizza together, Bizza then did what Bizza has been doing all year for us and smashed the 2nd ball he faced for a huge 6 and kept on going putting pressure back on the very good Logan attack & lifting our run rate, he was being helped but similarly impressive and aggressive Cappy who his own massive 6 into the clubhouse, the boys put together a brilliant 73 run partnership off just 55 balls to really push us along before Cappy was out for a well made 42 off 30 4 4s & 1 6 a fantastic 1st inns for us,

Clarky(6) joined Bizza but couldn’t quite get going before getting caught in the deep, 4/161 off 13.2 overs to go we were in a position to really launch and get up around the 250 mark which would be a huge score as the ground was playing pretty slow compared to normal,

But unfortunately we suffered a small collapse losing Lee(0), Bizza for a well made 48 off 38 2 4s & 3 6s great innings Bizz, and then Trav (0) as we slumped to 7/164 losing 4/3,

Col & Conan got together to start a fight back and try and get us to 200 but Conan (1) fell at 171 , Critto joined Col and the boys took us to 200 before Col was stumped trying to lift the tempo, Jason then returned & with Critto put on a very valuable partnership taking us to 9/226 which we thought was a great    Score in the conditions, Jason finished unbeaten 55 off 57 with 6 4s and fantastic effort,  Critto 25 no did a great job getting us to the total,

After Lunch we took to the field to defend our score,

Opening up with Schuey & Josh, starting brilliantly the boys were all over them reducing them to 2/7 with a wicket each, then Schuey struck twice more with his 3rd LBW the benefit of bowling very straight, 4/28, Schuey finishing his spell 5 overs 3/21 great effort, Duane came into the attack with immediate effect removing a dangerous hitter 5/50 then became 6/50 when Josh grabbed his 2nd wicket in his last over finishing 7 fantastic overs 2/27,

We were well on top but as good teams do Logan fought back putting on a partnership that got them back into the game, we managed to

Break the partnership with an outstanding catch from Trav off Jason’s bowling 7/98 off 24 was still a great spot to be but still some work to do as Logan continued to fight back, it had been a long and very hot day but the boys worked even harder to try & knock over Logan who were just as determined to get the job done,

Another very good partnership took them through to 161 off 34 overs, still needing 66 off 36 balls, the ball was thrown to Clarky who struck 2nd ball and then bowled a great spell along with Cappy at the other end to close out the game with Logan finishing 8/197 giving us very solid hard fought win over a very good side, Thanks go to Logan Village boys who played the game in great spirit,

Our bowling

Schuey 3/21(5)  Josh 2/27(7)

Duane 1/22 (4) Jason 1/19(4)

Clarky 1/16(3) Trav 0/19(7)

Bizza 0/21(2) Chris 0/22(4)

Cappy 0/29(4)

Great effort by the boys & a great result pretty much locks us in for finals with 2 games to go, thanks for reading and we will see you all again in a couple of weeks GO BAY!!

Over 40’s Division 3

The Bay 40/3 were up against the Waterford Warriors on Loxton - 2

We new it would be a very close game due to our similar positions on the ladder .

With 20 wickets falling in 3rd grade on Saturday for under 200 runs Bobby Menzies had almost convinced me to bowl first if winning the Toss .

The Waterford Warriors won  the Toss and sent the Bay in regardless .

Brad and Gazz opened up with Brad getting a peach and departing early with Jim joining Gazz for a very solid partnership with Jimmy Retiring with a quick fire 51 from 57 balls .

Sean joined Gazz with Gazz Retiring on 50 also from 67 balls with Bob joining Sean .

Bob hit a quick fire 17 from 12 balls before departing  with Hamad doing the same with 17 from 14 balls with Sean retiring on 50 from 63 Balls .

The Bay ended our 40 overs 6 /224 which was a very healthy score .

The Waterford Warriors had to come out swinging  from the 1st over , which they did launching us to all parts of the oval before  Darren Redmayne struck twice and helped  slow things down a little. .

We kept mixing the bowling up but the Warriors had us covered at ever move chasing the runs down in the 33rd over 3 down .

A great game of cricket played in the true spirit of the game by both sides with a few Cold Beers shared after the game .

Cheers .

Matty .
