Match Report: Under 13 Division 2 Grand Final
Runaway Bay Seagulls vs. Mudgeeraba U13s
The Runaway Bay Seagulls have been crowned Grand Final Champions after a dominant 8-wicket victory over Mudgeeraba at Alan Nielsen Park.
Winning the all important toss, our skipper Maggie sent the Mudgeeraba Girls in for a bat to start.
Our bowling attack was clinical from the start, consistently taking wickets to restrict Mudgeeraba to a total of 120. The Seagulls' fielding was exceptional, highlighted by multiple catches and sharp run-outs.
Key Bowling Performances:
* Charlie : 3 wickets for 12 runs (2.2 overs)
* Jackson : 2 wickets for 20 runs (3 overs)
* Fletcher : 1 wicket for 6 runs (2 overs)
* Maggie : 1 wicket for 9 runs (2 overs)
* Olive : 1 wicket for 18 runs (3 overs)
After we restricted the girls to 120 it was our turn for a bat.
The Seagulls chased down the target with ease, reaching 2-121 in just 18.1 overs. The top order set a perfect foundation, with several batters reaching retirement scores to ensure the win.
Top Run Scorers:
* Hugo : 35 runs (30 balls, five 4s) - Retired Not Out
* Hudson : 33 runs (30 balls, five 4s) - Retired Not Out
* Lachlan : 26 runs (30 balls, three 4s) - Retired Not Out
Champion Performance: A total team effort in the field followed by composed batting saw us secure the premiership trophy in style with our own Hugo being deemed player of the final.

🎉🏏 Runaway Bay Cricket Club Trivia Night 2026 – What a Night! 🏏🎉
What an absolutely cracking night it was at our 2026 Trivia Night! The room was buzzing, the competition was fierce, and the laughs were non-stop as teams battled it out for ultimate bragging rights 🧠🔥
A massive congratulations goes to our reigning champions “We Won Last Year” – and they’ve done it AGAIN! 🏆👏 The powerhouse team made up of the Cannings, Secombes and McQueens proved they’ve still got the trivia magic, going back-to-back in style.
But it certainly wasn’t a walk in the park! Pushing them all the way to the final questions was the ever-entertaining “Beautaties and the Beast” – featuring the Harkers, Maggie McQueen and Phil Nordstrom. They were right in the hunt all night and only just fell short in a thrilling finish 😱💥
From tricky questions to plenty of banter, the night had it all – great company, plenty of laughs, and that unbeatable club spirit ❤️💙
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, got involved, and made the night such a success 🙌 Whether you were competing hard or just there for the fun, events like this are what make our club so special.
We can’t wait to do it all again next year… the big question is – can anyone stop the champs? 🤔🏆

‘The low road has no exits’, Keith Buckley, 2011.
Saturday the 28th of March 2026 spelled the end of what had been a gruelling yet successful season for the Bay 2s. With the Bay hosting a home grand final, the boys arrived early at the ground and as we all tried to keep ourselves busy preparing warm up routines, filling water bottles and setting up all the tech needed to support a game of park cricket these days, the tension was beyond palpable. After rolling up yet another belter, Phil was away for the weekend and we knew if we won the toss, runs on the board would be the way to go. When the time for the coin toss finally arrived, the Mudgeeraba Skipper, after momentarily gazing upon the late Queen Elizabeth II’s head, declared gleefully, ‘we will definitely not bowl!’
Sticking with our tried-and-true opening bowling combination, Stevie Watson took the new ball from the northern end while George partnered him from the southern end. With Harry Maher getting a few big shots away early, it looked like the Bay 2s could be in for a very long afternoon indeed. The travelling Mudgeeraba peanut gallery was in full swing early, and when a tough chance was dropped by Proctor, who dived full-length attempting to glove a skied ball from the Mudgee skipper, the gallery’s taunts were laced with vitriol. Luckly for the Bay 2s the sting of a missed opportunity didn’t have time to settle in, as on the very next ball Harry clothed one high in the air down to long off. As a silence fell over the entire Runaway Bay sports precinct, Austin Billing swallowed the catch and just like that, we were away and Stevie Watson had ticked off another big name to add to his list. Not content with the wicket alone, Stevie made sure to let the Mudgee supporters know that they were in for a contest as he charged towards the boundary before being tackled by his teammates. While George toiled away stoically, luckless as ever, returning figures of 4 overs 0/15, Stevie finished his spell of 7 over 1/37, claiming 29 second grade scalps for the year! From 1-40, we applied a bit of a squeeze for 10 overs or so, thanks to the measly bowling of Mitchell Bailey (0/22 from 6), until I (8 overs 4-32) claimed an easy scalp curtesy of a rash stroke to see the score move to 2-92. The introduction of Tommy Gossett (1/31 from 8) and Travis Harker (1/31 from 7) saw Mudgee struggling to score freely and as the wickets tumbled, the score was moving very slowly indeed. Two runouts rounded out what had been a stop-start innings from Mudgeeraba that saw the visitors claw their way to 9-168 from their allotment.
While we’d have happily accepted a chase sub-170 prior to the start of the match, every single one of the Bay 2s knew that stability at the top of the order was going to be key to our chances of claiming a flag.
As Hoc and Proc strode to the centre to commence our reply, the Bay 2s and supporters alike were well… let's be honest, a bunch of nervous wrecks. A 4th ball strike from the Mudgee left-arm quick only spurred on our anxieties as Proctor was back in the sheds for a duck with the score at 1-0. Just an over later and as I chewed through the last of my remaining fingernails, Timmy Murdoch 0(5), scooped a wide delivery to backward point to see the score at 2-3. With Tommy Gossett and Jack Hocart at the crease, players and supporters alike felt a wave of calmness for a few overs knowing that our best two batters were locked in for the contest. But when Jack 4(9), was dismissed bowled in just the 5th over and our score at 3-11, panic stations had well and truly activated. Sam Heathwood 4(17), looked in a mood to carry on from his good form in the semi-final, but when he was adjudged LBW to a ball he was certain he had hit, I think it’s fair to say that we began to question if today was going to be our day. Austin Billing who as always, looked nothing short of competent against spin bowling was inexplicably bowled by the Mudgee tweaker which saw me hobbling out to the crease to join Tommy Gossett with the score at 5-28. With Tommy well established and looking to dominate the bowlers, I did my best to nurdle the ball around and share the strike, but I was only able to manage 15(45) in a 50-run partnership before I too fell victim to a touch-and-go LBW call. With the score at 6-79 and a mountain to climb in the remaining 18 overs, Jawid replaced me but only managed 2(2) before he was caught behind. Batting with the tail, Tommy chanced his arm and brought up a classy half-century as wickets tumbled around him, before he and with him our season’s hope, fell for 58(52). A gritty 13(25) from George ended along with the match when he was out thanks to a great snare to see the Bay 2s all out for 105.
Crushed by the sense of how close we had come, the Bay 2s swallowed our collective pride and duly congratulated the victors and umpires post-match. In what had been a game of two halves where we had won the first, Mudgee had showed why they play finals cricket just about every season by digging-in and refusing to go down without a fight. While I still maintain that we were the best side in the competition all year, it’s fair to say that despite any nerves, decisions or even the outcome of coin toss, the better team on the day won the match.
Thankyou to everyone who has supported not just the Bay 2s but the entire RBCC this season. The energy, spirit and enjoyment has been as good as any season in my memory. There is so much work that goes un-noticed or under appreciated so, I’d specifically like to thank the board who have made the 2025-2026 season one to remember. I’d also like to give a big shoutout to Flynn Richardson, who gave up his time to come and photograph the 2s semi final and grand final! A coach with 60 test caps to his name, 10 wins in first grade, 2s and 3s making grand finals and 5th Grade winning a flag is an outstanding return for the season and despite my own bitterness, I think it is upon all members to remember this season for the successes we’ve had.
To the Bay 2s specifically, I’d like to thank you for best team I can remember being a part of. We cultivated such a classy, no-fuss, humble yet effective brand of cricket with a perfect balance of old and young, wily and gifted, respectful and respected players. I loved what each and every one of you, brought to the team and I’d very much like to see you return to RBCC come August 2026.
Cheers
Patrick

Grand Final
RBCC V Logan Village
On Saturday we made the trip out to Logan Village, Along with quite a few family members of our boys and some great supporters, on the way through paradise point we stopped at the best coffee shop called Drift Wood owned by Stingers, Stingers shouted the lads a bacon and egg roll and a coffee to start the day and to say good luck, Big thanks
When we got there we were amazed at how good the wicket was we lost the toss and were sent in to have a field We opened with Jake and Josh the big game got to Jakes nerves a little bit bowling a few wides in his first over but taking a big wicket on his last ball of the over, Josh bowled tight overs again but once again the pick of the bowlers was Will Altass, We had them 4 for 70 at drinks which we thought was excellent but they had a different idea, our dropped catches letting us down they managed to get to 188 off 40 overs,
We opened up with Brendo and Josh these lads got us off to a great start we were 38 when we lost our first wicket and from there we didn’t show much resistance except for Humza, unfortunately for us we were bowled out for 122 but we had a great season as a team with a great bunch of lads

Grand Final day & I’m not sure what was going on but we had assembled to the venue where we had won 2 previous grand finals, not to mention a washout last year & we found ourselves doing a bit of fielding practice, which is unheard of. A decent crowd had assembled to witness history considering we had 3 teams playing on the day. After the madness of throwing around a cricket ball & a footy we all sat down for a rest while Bizza tossed the coin with our favourite umpire Krusty. Bizza called incorrectly & we were asked to have a bowl. We finally had our best possible team available so Grossy & Schuey took the new ball. Both kept it tight early with Schuey striking first & second, leaving the visitors in early trouble at 2/15. Grossy was doing Grossy things at the other end bowling his 6 straight finishing with figures of 0/14 from his 6 overs, then ran off to put the orange pads on to relieve Conan of the keeping duties. With the fall of the second wicket we were intoduced to a certain 22 yo 2nd grader who was next in. Courtesy of some tight bowling from our openers, Southport had fallen behind on the required run rate to make a game of it but the runs soon started flowing until Snitty captured the third wicket, Southport now in a bit of stife at 3/30. Their 22 yo 2nd grader started to find the middle of his bat & started to find the boudaries required to put us under pressure until the baby of the team, Azza bowled him for 52 leaving them plenty to do. Fridge was bamboozing them with his variations bowling in partnership with Azz as the run rate again slowed down. Cappy was next to bowl introducing his offies for the first time this season, taking up the attack with Conan. Conan captured the next 2 wickets with rank full tosses, the score now 6/134. Snitty cart wheeled the next batters stumps, while Bizza caught a certain ex Bay player to give Cappy his first wicket for the club leaving them 8/164, a tricky total for a run chase in a Grand Final.
Time for a rest & a snack which our favourite scorer Mel had kindly suppled again. Our turn with the stick, the equation, a tick under 5 an over. The decoys were split up with Conan being joined by Luke at the top of the order. Southport had plenty to say early & when Conan was bowled in the first over by a fired up attack, they were up & about with the score on 1/4. Brad was next in & next out caught behind without hitting it, given out by our favourite umpire, the score now 2/17, a shaky start with Southport really finding their voice now in the field & on the sidelines. Cappy strode to the crease next, fresh from a night at the Lennox Head bowlo after again driving down from Sydney for a second week in a row. Him & Luke quickly set about silencing the fielding team striking boundaries & maximums to slowly give us the asendancy. The opposition now losing their voice as their heads started to drop with their supporters also heading for he exits. With the score on 113, Luke was adjudged LBW for 44 off 46, & when Cappy was finally dismissed for 66 off 64 we still had to find another 26 runs with plenty of overs spare due to their partnership. Azza was next in & with Southport finding their voice again he slowly but surely went about reserrecting the innings giving them as much as they gave him with the lip & a bit more. Biz was next in & next out & when Fridge perished next the score was now 6/152 still requiring another 13 runs to win our 3rd decider with plenty of overs in hand. The freshly demoted opener joined Azza & slapped a couple of boundaries to edge us past their score, with 9 overs in hand, Azza remained 12 not out & Jamie 13 not out with all their teammates joining them out in the middle to celebrate our 3rd premiership in 5 seasons. Thanks to the lolly lady Kirsten, Cappy for spending $3000 in petrol, driving down from Sydney to play in both finals Mel for scoring & supplying snacks & to all that came out to witness the game, let the celebrations begin. After posing for numerous after match photos from the paparazzi that had assembled we began the celebrations with plenty of refreshments & singing that lasted to the wee hours of the morning. I believe Luke starred during the match & the after match festivies, being the last to leave. Also, were still not sure what Emily drinks but whatever it is, she was over refreshed with it Saturday night. Thanks to Mel & Col for giving Schuey & Cappy somewhere to lay their heads on Sunday morning. For a lot of us it was our last game in blue & orange but we certainly made it a memorable one. And for the very last time.....Cheers JH.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
