Match Report: Under 13 Division 2 Semi-Final
Runaway Bay Seagulls vs. Coomera Hope Island White.

Runaway Bay Seagulls have secured their spot in the Grand Final after a dominant all-around performance against Coomera Hope Island White at Sam Loxton 3 Oval. The Seagulls clinical display with both ball and bat saw them claim a convincing 7-wicket victory.

First Innings: Clinical Bowling Shuts Down Coomera.

After losing the toss we were sent into for a bowl, Runaway Bay put on a masterclass in disciplined line and length. Coomera Hope Island White struggled to find rhythm against a relentless attack, eventually being restricted to 9-88 after their 25 overs.

Bowling Highlights:
* Hudson was the pick of the bowlers, tearing through the middle order to finish with incredible figures of 3-4 from 3 overs.
* Charlie provided excellent support, claiming 2-21.
* Hugo was nearly impossible to score off, finishing with 1-2 from his 3 overs.
* Jackson and Maggie also chipped in with a wicket apiece to keep the pressure on.

Fielding:
The Seagulls were sharp in the field, led by Nash who looked like a magnet for the ball, pouching 3 catches. Lachlan and Fletcher also held onto important chances, while Maggie showed great awareness to affect a run-out.

Second Innings: Collett Leads the Chase

Chasing 89 for a place in the big dance, Runaway Bay paced their innings perfectly. Despite losing a couple of early wickets, the result never felt in doubt thanks to a standout performance at the top of the order.

Batting Highlights:
* Hugo played the definitive match-winning knock, scoring a brilliant 41 off 30 balls, including 4 boundaries, before retiring not out.
* Captain Maggie showed great composure to finish 15 not out from 15 deliveries, steering the team toward the finish line.
* Lachlan (8) and Nash (6)* provided valuable contributions to ensure the Seagulls reached 3-89 with plenty of wickets in hand.
Final Result
* Coomera Hope Island White: 9-88 (25 Overs)
* Runaway Bay Seagulls: 3-89 after 14 overs
* Result: Runaway Bay Seagulls won by 7 wickets.

Was a fantastic team effort with all players contributing to the win.
The Seagulls now move on to the Grand Final to face Mudgee U13s Div 2 Girls.

2nd Grade

Week 23 of the season spelled some unfamiliar territory for the Bay 2s as we returned to Loxton 1 for a semi final clash against Palm Beach. After securing the minor premiership several weeks prior, the finals fixtures saw no1 take on no.4 on the table. Upon arrival, the Bay 2s were greeted by the best-looking pitch that any of us might have had the privilege to play on. Phil had rolled up an absolute belter which thanks to Friday afternoon baking in the sun, had turned just about completely white. A harsh critic may question why it had taken 20odd years for Phil to roll up such a belter but luckily for Phil, the Bay 2s are a collective of individuals exuding gratitude and humility. Despite the batter-friendly looking pitch, we opted to stick for what has worked the previous two occasions we had played Palmy by bowling first, and applying the Bay Squeeze to make sure they would not get a score we couldn’t chase down. Yet another successful coin toss saw the Bay 2s take the field for what could be the final time this season.

With a prevailing south-easterly, Stevie took the first over from the northern end while George commenced proceedings from the southern and newly proclaimed ‘Edney End’. Despite tight starts from both Stevie and George, both Palmy openers got off to good starts and after 8 overs and with the score at 0-42, I was well and truly questioning the bowl-first decision. That was until, yes you guessed it Stevie ‘Weekly Wabbler Wonderkid’ Watson drew a false stroke from the Palmy skipper who was dismissed caught by a sharp grab from T. Harker. After a few tight overs from both opening bowlers Stevie was at it again as he castled Jarret with an unplayable delivery. The big wicket saw us pull things back to 2-62 after 15 as Stevie yet again claimed the outstanding figures of 2-22(8). George who had bowled without luck to a return of 0-36(6) was replaced by Mitchell Bailey at the southern end and together with the help of Tom Gossett, the pair really began to pump the breaks on the Palmy innings and when Mitch cleaned bowled field after being asked to do so by said batter, the game had completely changed with the score at 3-90 from 22 overs. A brief 4 over cameo of 1-14 from myself saw the dismissal of McCloy at 4-112, before I handed the reins back to Tommy G. Tommy Gossett 3-29 (7.1) and Travis Harker 3-19(8) did the majority of the damage through the middle overs and with the Palm Beach batters being forced to play their strokes in the absence of any loose deliveries the batting side slid to 10-156. In what had been a monumental turn around, the Bay 2s attack had claimed the last 6 wickets for just 66 runs and left Palm Beach’s season’s hopes in a precarious position. Special mention again to Proctor who claimed 4 stumpings, the second-to-last of which was lightning fast.

With a modest target on the board, Hoc and Proc again paired to open our innings and drive our semifinals hopes. Sadly, Proctor was dismissed on just the second delivery of the innings and as he attempted to pull a half volley on middle, was adjudged LBW 0(2). Timmy Murdoch replaced Proctor and looked like a man who was going to steer us out of trouble before he snicked off to Lamont for 4(7). Timmy’s dismissal brought our two highest run-scorers together at the crease. The pairing of Hocart and Gossett that had seen over 1,200 runs compiled between them over the regular season, looked focused and locked in for big knocks but when Hocart 8(10) was dismissed chasing a wide one with our score at 3-13, panic stations were well and truly triggered. Hocart’s dismissal brought a steely-eyed Sam Heathwood to the crease to pair with Gossy. But just as the two began to play some strokes and the tightness in my chest began to subside, Tommy, similar to Hoc chased a wide delivery and was caught at slip for 25(36). 1-0 had turned into 4-45 with Tom’s dismissal who had yet again left the hard yards to the middle and lower order. Austin Billing came in and looked in great touch from ball one. Both he and Sammy put pressure back on the Palmy attack and as Austin drove the quicks through the covers to find the fence, Sammy began to punish the young leggy with a monster 6 he slog swept over cow corner. With the score at 4-94, one over left before the drinks break and Austin and Sam completely cruising, the telepathic messages from the stands were the obvious, ‘get through to drinks’. Frustratingly that message was not received by one A. Billing 20(27), whom with just 5 balls left until the drinks break and after looking well-set played a beautiful clip albeit in the air, straight down mid-on’s throat. “F%c$!!!”. From cruising to cursing, the feeling in the grandstand rapidly changed as I plodded out to meet Sam with the side still requiring 63 runs for victory. As I struggled to pick up the ball, Sam stayed cool, calm but aggressive and it took a shooting delivery to dismiss him. Playing back to a slightly short delivery that skidded on with the arm, Sam was struck high on the pad but directly in front of middle stump and adjudged LBW for a very classy 38(46) that featured 2 fours and a monster 6. Sam’s departure at 6-107 brought Jawid to the crease. Yes, Jawid, the man who has dug us out of so many holes this season to see us snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, was left again to do the heavy lifting. I was of little help to our cause and when I ran myself out for 6(26), there were still 41 runs required for us to secure a finals berth with just 3 wickets in hand. Mitch Bailey replaced me and was under explicit instruction to ‘hang in there with Jawid and let him do his thing’. To this point Jawid, had yet to play a stroke in anger yet all 11 Palmy players and the grandstand alike, sensed that he was biding his time and identifying his target. Weather it was instinct or calculation, the 30th over was when Jawid pushed that button and as he launched the first delivery over mid-on for 6, we needed just 32 more runs to win. The next delivery also went for 6 and landed on the 2nd lane of the nets to leave just 26runs remaining. A few dot balls and Palm Beach might have been forgiven for thinking they would escape a monster over. But on the 5th delivery of the 30th over Jawid yet again launched the hapless leggy onto net 2. The 18 run, 30th over saw the target reduced to 20 runs and when Jawid launched another 6 the next over, from the bowling of C.Carroll, beyond Phil Hill and into the sports centre, the home supporters dared to dream. The return of C. Wilsom spelled the last real danger and as Jawid skied a delivery towards mid-off, a silence fell over Loxton 1. With the catch secured, Jawid trudged off for a blistering 33(25) and left the job to Travis Harker and Mitch Bailey to seal the deal and score the 5 runs required from the remaining 7 overs. While Mitch Bailey picked his singles and even picked up a boundary, Travis began to snick us closer to victory. Seizing the opportunity arising from a full delivery on middle and leg, Trav clipped a shot through mid wicket, finding the gap and as the pair ran through for the second run, victory had been secured and a Grand Final spot locked in. Mitch’s gritty 6*(18) and Trav’s 5*(7) had got the job done. Queue scenes those unlike any I can remember at the Bay and as the sun set on Palm Beach’s season, players and spectators alike flooded Loxton 1 to embrace the victors.

Wow! This was undoubtedly my favourite memory thus far, in my 20 something seasons at the Club. With our backs against the wall early on in both innings, we persevered, ignored the niggle, winning fair and square with the greatest level of humility. We bowled as a unit and batted like a team who was not content with just making a Semi final. On to next week which will be our last for the 25/26 season and an opportunity to take out silverware by winning the Second Grade premiership on home soil as we take on Mudgeeraba!

Cheers

Patrick.

3rd Grade

3rd Grade Semi Final V Loganholme

On Saturday we played our semi final on Loxton 2 against a strong Loganholme side we won the toss and decided to have a bat we opened the batting with Brendo and Josh both lads got us off to a great start with Josh leaving us first for 13 off 32 balls which bought in his son Taika, Taika and brendo played great cricket rotating strike, We were 1 for 64 after 20 at drinks we know it was a bit slow but to have wickets in the bank and a platform to play off we knew we were in a great place, Brendo was next to leave us getting yet another 50 for the mighty 3rd grade, This brings Lucas Frazer to the crease, Lucas makes batting look easy his chilled vibe and great attitude helping young Taika out at the other end, Taika was next to leave us 31 off 61 balls, This bought Mitch Mcphee into the game, Mitch decided for the first time in his life that glasses should be worn when batting and what this did for the big guy was hit 24 runs off 8 balls with 3 sixes and a four this was a much needed injection to the run rate, Bartlett was next in along with Kunal after we lost mcphee and Frazer close together with Frazer 19 off 27, Bartlett didn’t bother the scorers to much with 3 off 6 Hamza a quick 10 off 8 With Kunal and Raffel carrying their bats Kunal 29 not out off 23 and Raffels 6 not out off 4, We knew that if we batted our overs we could stay in this contest, at the end of our 40 we were 7/199 a score that we knew was defendable with disciplined bowling ,
And that’s how we started Josh hoare very first ball with an excellent catch by first slipper Brendo Roberts and just like that were thought all our xmas’s had come at once. But then we realised we had to fight a bit harder with their other opener having his own plans, Josh bowled extremely well as per usual 8 overs 29 for 2 Jake Shultz bowled 5 overs to start with doing a great job at the other end, Jared Austin came on following Jake bowing 3 overs but needing a wicket turned to Kunal and Hamza neither could get the wicket as we went to drinks Loganholme were 2for 98 and momentum swinging towards the away side, Will Altass had a different view of this momentum and decided to do it himself taking a wicket 2nd ball of his first over the inform opener dismissing him for 63, the very next ball Altass Strikes again, it took another 7 overs to take another wicket with Hamza snicking off caught behind by raffles, Will Altass taking the next wicket in the 32nd over jake shultz following suit the very next over getting his first wicket of the day, at this stage Loganholme were 7 for 156 after 34 overs. Will Altass wasn’t finished yet taking another one in the 36th over which was Wills last over he finished with figures of 8 overs 4 wickets for 27 runs, Jake also finished his spell 8 overs 1 for 40, Chris Bartlett was thrown the ball we needed 2 wickets in 2 overs and they needed 18 runs, Bartlett took a wicket in his second ball but going for 5 runs, last over Jared Austin took the last wicket with a great catch from crowd favourite Will Altass to win the Game for The Bay
Man of the match Will Altass

Firstly, I would like to address being attacked by a certain irate committee member after mentioning in a previous match report that she enjoys a Pino Grigio or 2 but in fact its Moet Chandon, sorry Emily. I believe a certain ex member of the clubs weeing dog still has her a bit rattled! Secondly I would like to apologise on behalf of our fearless leader for not sincerely thanking our scorer & snack supplier. Thank you Mel.
On to the game, Bizza won the toss & decided to bat first. We opened with the 2 decoys again Conan & Jamie. Conan was finding the middle of his bat while Jamie couldnt find any part of his. Jamie fell first for 5 with the score on 15, given LBW the ball grazing his left shoulder, the umpire & his seeing eye dog doing us a favour in hindsight. Luke joined Conan & the score started to really get going with both helping themselves to multiple boundaries until Conan hit one straight to the close in fielder & decided to call yes
but was rightly sent back by Luke, his little legs not quite making it back & was run out for a brisk 43 off 34. Cappy, who had driven up from Sydney for the game joined Luke & the pair started to lift the run rate until old mate decided to raise his finger again for his second LBW decision with Luke being half way down the track, his second stinker of the day, Luke’s contribution 38 from 40. Brad was next, him & Cappy safely guiding us to drinks with the score 3/130. Brad & Cappy lifted the score after drinks to 161 before Brad
was unluckily caught by a blinder considering they had grassed a few simple ones earlier, him & Cappy sharing a 52 run partnership. Bizza joined Cappy & the pair were really belting the attack only to keep finding the fielders who had spread themselves around the boundarys with only the keeper & bowler inside the ring, so they went aerial until Cappy found one of the boundary riders, caught for 55 off 49, a great effort considering his message he left on Friday night, obviously enjoying all that the Lennox Head pub had
to offer, the pair sharing a 44 run partnership. It was at about this stage that Helensvale were thinking, surely there’s no one else that can bat but they were wrong as Fridge strode to the crease to join Bizza. Bizz was really starting to enjoy the Helenvale bowling, helping himself to 4 6’s until he was caught on the boundary for 56 putting on 50 with the Fridge. Azza was next in & next out trying to lift the run rate, he was caught on the boudary, Critto was next & with only a few deliveries left, he & Fridge guided us to 7/261,
Fridge remained 10 not out & Critto 1 not out, our batting depth the key to our score with multiple 50 plus run partnerships.

Our turn with the ball & with Schuey unable to play due to injury the skipper threw the
ball to Andy, the only member of the triplets left. He & Grossy opened with Grossy striking early leaving them 1/4. We knew the key to their run chase was the other opener who had made big runs against us in ourprevious encounter & while he was there they were still in the game. He was joined by a young fella who helped himself to a few boundaries so Biz threw the ball to Fridge to replace Andy with immediate success.
The big fella having their number 3 caught by Conan with the score now on 2/68 with their run rate lifting. 30 more runs had been added before Fridge claimed the next wicket, their gun, brilliantly caught by the meat raffle winner Brad, with the score now 3/97 & then on the stroke of drinks, Fridge claimed his 3rd wicket with the score now 4/108. Straight after drinks Fridge struck again with his 4th wicket leaving them 5/109, the game now slipping away from Helensvale, with Snitty still left to bowl. Fridge finished his spell
with the figures 4/42 so The Snitt was thrown the ball with Azza keeping the run rate in check at the other end. With only 12 year olds left to bat, Snitty was licking his lips at the prospect of a few cheap wickets but the Helensvale tail had other ideas, helping themselves to 37 from his 3 overs but he did claim 2 wickets. Conan was next with the ball claiming the last 3 scalps, the last caught by Brad the third of his 3 catches, leaving Helensvale 81 runs short of their target, elevating us to our 4th Grand Final in 5 years.

Cheers JH.

Grand Final Match Report – Womens Navy

The Division 2 Grand Final against Coomera Hope Island was a contest worthy of the occasion, with both sides showcasing skill, resilience, and outstanding sportsmanship.

After winning the toss, we elected to send Coomera in to bat — a decision that was immediately justified. Our bowling and fielding effort was nothing short of magnificent. From the first over, there was constant positive talk in the field, sharp movement, and relentless pressure applied by every player. The bowlers executed their plans superbly, backed up by committed fielding, and together we restricted Coomera to 150 runs, their lowest total of the season. It was a complete team performance and one we could be incredibly proud of.

Heading into the chase, there was a strong sense of optimism and belief in the group. However, Coomera responded in the same manner we had earlier — with disciplined bowling, tight fielding, and sustained pressure. Despite our best efforts, wickets fell at regular intervals and momentum was hard to regain. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t our day with the bat.

While the result didn’t go our way, full credit must go to Coomera Hope Island for an outstanding game and a welldeserved victory.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has been involved with the Division 2 team throughout the season. To our supporters, friends, and families — your encouragement and presence have meant more than you know. A special thank you to the Division 3 girls, who stepped up whenever needed and trained alongside us every Wednesday and Friday — your commitment and support did not go unnoticed.

To Jamie, our coach — countless times this season you took on multiple roles without hesitation, always putting the team first. To Gareth, thank you for the ongoing training, guidance, and advice that helped shape our performances. And to Kelly, for your incredible support behind the scenes — we simply couldn’t do it without you.

Finally, I am truly honoured to have been your captain this season. While the Grand Final didn’t end the way we hoped, the journey, growth, and team spirit we’ve built together are something to be immensely proud of. I’m already looking forward to next year.

Over 40’s Division 2

40s Div 2 Grand Final vs Broadbeach

So the big day had arrived & we were all keen to have a big day & continue the celebrations from the day before with the club successfully getting 3 senior sides and a junior team into the Grand Finals next week great work,

With the threat of rain all week we arrived at Kombumerri park Boachbeach under sunny skies.

Col once again called correctly winning the toss for the 7th time in a row & 9 out of 10 this season,

We had decided to have a bat as our best chance to put pressure on the loaded Broadbeach side was put a good score on the board and apply as much pressure as we could with the ball through early wickets,

We had an aggressive game plan to start off using Chipper & Conan at the top which started brilliantly when Conan slapped the 1st ball of the match for 4 & we hoped there would be plenty more of that to come but unfortunately Conan was out for 8 a cpl of overs later with the score on 13,

Unfortunately Chipper was also out shortly after for 11,

2/24, soon became 5/38 with Hamad(1), Jason(9)& Col(2)all back in the sheds, not the start we were hoping for!

This left Birdy & Bizza together to build a partnership & get us back on track,

And that’s exactly what they did with Birdy finding the rope several times with ease.

At drinks we had gotten to 5/96 off 20 overs, the scoring was good just the loss of wickets an issue, hopefully the boys could continue the good work.

But unfortunately this was where things again went pair shaped for us Bizza went 2nd over after drinks for 19 off 33 3x 4s and 2 balls later Birdy followed for a very well made 37 off 40 5x 4s & 1 huge 6, the carnage didn’t finish there Clarky out Lbw first ball and Lee followed a few balls later for us to lose 3/0 in 1 over putting paid to any hopes of the big score we were hoping for 9/98 Pete had pulled out of the team in the morning due to a back issue but Aaron Canning answered the call he he strode out to join Trav for our last stand !! The boys put on another 17 runs before Trav was out for 17, Aaron remained unbeaten on 1 off 1 ball,

115 was the total we had managed clearly not what we were after but we certainly were going to have a crack at defending it,

After an early Lunch we took to the field with hopes of early wickets and trying to put some panic into the batting side.

The excitement started early when Trav hit the batter on the pads barely playing a shot but after a massive appeal he survived, but this was short lived after two more big appeals Trav got his man when the umpire finally agreed with us and we got the first wicket off the 4th ball of the innings!!! Fantastic start 1/0 off the first over,

Schuey opened from the southern end starting well with his heavily strapped calf, him and trav were keeping them under control but unfortunately we weren’t getting the break throughs we needed.

the 8th over proved crucial when Schuey appeared to have gotten their gun bat caught behind but he was unfortunately given not out! The next ball he edged over the slips for a boundary followed by a couple more and the floodgates opened for him as the reprieve seemed to free him up and started finding the rope with some ease playing some great cricket shots, we swung the bowling around from this point bowling Clarky, Jason, Duane and even Conan who all trued hard and bowled well but with the lack of runs we just couldn’t put any pressure on & the end came quickly with them passing us only losing the 1 wicket and a retirement.

Trav being the pick of our bowlers finishing with 1/20 off 6 ovs

It certainly wasn’t the day we were hoping for but congratulations to Broadbeach they certainly were the better team on the day and the season,

A big congratulations to all the boys for the season to get to the grand final is a massive effort in any competition let along in veterans cricket after most of the boys play Saturday’s as well,

A big thank you to all of our supporters that came along to the game as well as they they do to all games throughout the season especially our wonderful scorer mel & also Nicky, Kel, Em, Hamish who help out with the Lunch’s, Phil for his fantastic pitch’s and last but by no means least thanks to Matty Cunningham for his work as the Veterans Coordinator it has been a massive effort on his part,

Thanks for reading and see you all again next season.

Good Luck to all the grand final teams for next week go well and bring home the silverware to the greatest club on the Coast GO BAY!!!!

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
