The Bay Battle as both Over 50's Teams Clash
Over 50’s Navy
Battle of the Bay.
The day started very oddly as we sat at the visitors end. We then lost the toss and were asked to field by our Orange opponents. We started really well with Rod “Rowdey” Venn and “The Hustler” Larry Flint keeping the runs to a minimum. We got an early breakthrough and claimed the prize wicket of batting legend Jim Phillips. We kept the pressure on all the way to drinks with some good fielding. The next period we didn’t bowl to our potential with far to many extra’s allowing the scoreboard to advance. When we did get it right we got some wickets. In the final part of the innings we picked up a few more poles as they tried to advance towards the 200 mark. Our fielding and catching restricted them to 7/188. This in itself was a victory.
We then headed out to bat knowing what we need to do. Then it happened…. Jason “The Destroyer” Hay! Pretty quickly we were 5 down for around 20 odd. Then in true bay spirit the fightback began, Phil Holzinger and Arran Canning fighting for every run and putting on 70 before Phil fell just 6 short of his maiden 50 for the bay, I joined Arran at the crease and the plan was just claw our way closer and closer and see what we can get. Arran soon fell for a well deserved 27. The last few wickets came and went with everyone getting a quick 4 or 5. Best of the batting was Phill 44, Arran 27 and Matt 12 the only players to make double figures. This was our first game together as we got washed out in round 1 but we now know what we have got and can only get better. Next round is the 10th November against Mudgeeraba on Loxton 1 and due to a few players being away for State duties both sides will need to call on all the 50’s at the club to help out and be apart of what is turning out to be a fabulous start to the veterans for 24/25. See you all at the club
Matt Edwards.

Families gathered for a night full of fun and excitement! The Master Blasters kicked things off with some awesome water balloon catching games, followed by Gareth’s favorite - the color run! They loved every moment of it. Next up, our Under 10s took to the field with DJ Chad, warming up for their cricket games by dancing and winning prizes. The vibe was electric, and it was all about having fun at the Bay!

Over 50’s Orange
It was built up to be a cracker and certainly did not disappoint .
Orange won the toss and elected to Bat .
Jim & Sean opened up and got us going before Jim got a Peach from Flinty caught behind for 14 .
This bought Lee to the crease who scored a well compiled 11 with Rob Laing adding 13 then Muzz muscling a quick fire 25 with Sean retiring on 28 to head to Brisbane to practice his Juggling at the Moscow Circus .
Bobby and Jason came together again scoring 26 and 22 N/O getting Orange to 188 , 7 down after our 40 overs .This bought Jamie Hunt and Tony Rowe out to open the Batting for Navy
and were both quickly introduced to Jason Hay who rattled both their middle stumps .
Jason kept the Hammer down clean bowling Flinty and hitting Andrew Rodrick in front LBW.
We had Navy under huge pressure and enter the Man Phil Holzinger who dug in and scored a Fantastic 44 before being caught & bowled by Rob Laing .
Arran Canning showed some real heart hanging tuff & supporting Phil before being stumped by Lee down the Leg Side .
The Skip was running out of Bowling option and went straight to the Destroyer Bobby Menzies who took a absolute screamer caught and Bowled followed up by a even better effort the next over from Jimmy Phillips doing the same .
Open to discussion who took the better caught and bowled 1 - Rob Laing , 2 - Bobby Menzies , 3 - Jimmy Phillips .
Orange ended up bowling Navy out for 136 in the 38th over , all Bowlers did the Job , but Jason Hay was outstanding finishing with 4/18 from 7 .
Thank you to Matty Edwards and the Boys from Navy for a very enjoyable game of Cricket .
Cheers .
Matty .

Over 40’s Division 1
The atmosphere was electric at Sam Loxton Oval, where the local heroes, Runaway Bay Over 40 Div 1, took on Loganholme in a gripping encounter that showcased the best of amateur cricket. With both teams vying for supremacy in the CGC Over 40's Division, expectations were high and the stakes even higher. Runaway Bay set out to establish a solid foundation, and they did just that with notable contributions from their batsmen. Travis Harker and Ben McDermott each scored half-centuries, providing stability to the innings. Harker’s brisk knock of 50 runs off just 59 balls was punctuated by eight delightful boundaries, showcasing his ability to find gaps with precision. McDermott's approach was more measured; his patient innings of the same score came from a longer stay at the crease—123 balls—highlighting his determination to anchor the innings despite a slower strike rate of just over forty. The home side finished their innings at a respectable total of 181 runs after their full quota of overs, setting a challenging target for Loganholme. However, it was not without its trials; they navigated through early wickets which saw them struggling at times (FOW: Wickets lost at scores of nine and sixteen), but resilience shone through as they managed to recover and build partnerships. In response, Loganholme displayed remarkable composure as they chased down Runaway Bay’s total with relative ease. They reached their target in just over thirty-five overs, ultimately finishing on seven wickets for two hundred and eighty-two runs—a result that left Runaway Bay falling short by three wickets but proud of their spirited display. Overall, it was an enthralling contest filled with competitive spirit typical of local cricket clubs where players poured heart and soul into representing their communities. While Loganholme emerged victorious this time around, Runaway Bay can take pride in individual performances and camaraderie that defines amateur cricket culture.

40s 2nds Match Report
Round 2 vs Alberton at Trevor Hammel Fields
After being washed out in round 1 we finally got the opportunity to play our first match of the season, We travelled up to Trevor Hammel fields in Alberton and the first order of business was introductions as the team had a lot of new faces to the club as well as some familiar ones.
We were all looking forward to a great day and some good cricket. The ground was a little wet in places but in pretty good condition, and the pitch looked good. The coin was tossed and the tails never fail theory failed us, and we were put into the field.
We kicked off the day with Troy Kenny and Chris Schultz who both started very well and put a lot of pressure on the Alberton batsmen without a lot of luck, TK did break through for his first wicket for the club (congratulations TK) he finished his 7 overs with a very tidy 1/17 Chris also was very measly 0/17 (7).
Matt Trickey and Brad Collett came into the attack both new recruits to the club and both doing very well Matt 0/26 and Brad 1/24 (congrats Brad on your 1st wicket for the club).
At the drinks break Alberton were 3/82, but we felt we were going ok just needing a bit of luck. After drinks we made some changes in our approach taking the pace off the ball and our spinners came into the game and did a great job,
The wickets wern’t coming but the boys were keeping it very tight.
Darren Redmayne bowled a super spell 1/16 (7ov) (congrats Darren on your 1st wicket for the club as well) supported by Hapreet Rayar 0/30 (7) both in their first club games, for Hapreet it was his first game in 25 years so great effort and you will have been sore on Monday, Hamad bowled very well at the death 0/16 (4).
So we successfully put the squeeze on the Alberton Batsmen and kept them to 3 / 156 off 40 overs which was a great effort for our first time in the field together also big thanks to Geoff and Aaron on some great fielding, the ball followed you guys around all day.
With a drying field we thought that the target was well within our grasp with some smart batting. New Recruit Lucas Ridgway and Hamad put their hands up to open the batting, both had shared the keeping duties earlier in the day and done a great job.
The boys started well but unfortunately Lucas fell early for 7, after hitting a great boundary, Col joined Hamad and the pair put together a solid 40 run partnership, before Hamad was dismissed for a well made 28. Chris Schultz came to the crease and after a shaky start fought his way through it and produced a great innings facing some very good and disciplined bowling, he also produced the moment of the match, after coping a barrage of verbal sledges from the bowler ( Angry Ant) Chris dispatched said bowler for consecutive boundaries, the 2nd of which was a cracking back foot cut shot through cover point, Chris turned to the bowler and casually announced “don't bowl there champ“ which brought great amusement and laughter from all on the field including the opposition and umpire who all had a great laugh.
Thankfully he survived the next delivery!!
Chris finally fell for a well made 24 with a partnership of 45, the score on 3/98 off 25 overs with us needing another 59 off 15 overs. Col(51) then had to retire with the score on 3/113, That brought Darren Raymayne and Hapreet Rayar together and the boys set about knocking off the 44 runs needed from the remaining 12 overs. Steadily reducing the target, Hapreet was dimissed for a useful 7 in a 21 run partnership.
The equation was now 23 runs from 33 balls, things were tightening up and everyone was on the edge of their seats Matt Trickey strode to the wicket with true intent, the pair quickly set about their work and got the job done with 9 balls to spare. Matt hitting a big 6 for the winning runs in his first match for the club finishing 10 not out, Darren who played a masterful hand guiding us home with a superb 29 not out.
It was a fantastic game from the boys and a huge effort to get the win in our first game together, we can only get better from here boys.
A big thank you to all the boys
Next up is Helensvale @ Hession Oval on the 10th of November
go bay and see ya see next game!!
