Finally no rain on Saturday Night or Sunday

Over 40’s Division 1

Runaway Bay over 40s division 1 took on Mudgeeraba at Corbwood no 2. Captain no 1 Birrell won the toss and elected to field. They open the bowling with Claude Jackson who should’ve had a wicket first ball after a drop catch, in tandem with Captain no 2 Harker the batsmen threw their bats and got away with a lot of quick lucky runs to get them off to a flyer. No 3 captain Noodle was brought into the attack and with the help of new recruit Scott McGrath they stemmed the bleeding to have Mudgeeraba at around 3 for 100 at drinks. The innings was at a tipping point where the Bay boys could have rolled Mudgeeraba for 130 or so but as the old saying goes catches win matches with Captain no 1 Birrell dropping 2, Captain no 2 Harker dropping 1 and Captain no 3 Noodle dropping 1 off his own bowling. The the innings concluded at 9 for 253 with Captain no 3 Noodle the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, also special mention to Claude Jackson for his bowling and his fielding. Northam and Dunning open the batting for the Bay with Northern starting to look good before falling for 25, Dunning got 15. Captain no 1 Birrell was absolutely useless out for 2. McDermott and Captain no 2 Harker steadied the ship with a nice 80 run partnership, but the run rate required was getting too far ahead and the rest of the bats tried to pick it up but the team was bundled out for 139. It was a disappointing result, considering the chances to win and it makes qualifying for the finals very difficult from here.

Over 40’s Division 2

Match report 40s 2s

Vs Broadbeach @ Loxton 1

So after a frustrating period where we haven’t played a game since December 8th we finally got to play our first game of 2025, not only that, it was also our first home game for the season which had all the boys excited to play.

Also a season first was having a full side available in fact we had 13 players which included a couple of ring-ins, Ed Fowler ( Freddie’s Dad ) and his close mate Matt Baker both playing their first game in the master’s ,

We had our first win for the day winning the toss, so we decided to have a bat.

The Uk mates of Ed and Matt heading out to open the innings full of hope but unfortunately the partnership was over soon after the scorers had settled into their seats with Matt out 2nd ball of the innings and Ed joining him 2 overs later with the score on just 5, not the start we were hoping for!!

Col join Darren and the pair put together a settling partnership of 28 which proved to be the best of the innings before Col burnt himself coming back for 2 taking on the extremely sharp broadbeach fielding, this being the first of 2 sharp runouts, with the score on 3 for 33 a rebuild was required but unfortunately it didn’t happen and we lost 8 for 21 to be bowled out for 54 not the innings we were hoping for, highlights of the innings were hard to find,

Darren Redmayne showed great fight to put together the top score of 20,

the only other double figure score was Col with 10,

Greg bird playing his first game for the side getting 6 including a great boundary.

So with us only lasting 18 overs Umpire Marty gave us 30 mins before lunch to bowl, so we hit the ground knowing we had to make early inroads and lots of them,

Unfortunately this didn’t quite happen as the lack of scoreboard pressure allowed the Broadbeach batsmen to play with freedom, we bowled 7 overs before lunch was called and the score was 0 / 30.

After Lunch we resumed and threw the ball around to give a few boys a bowl but with no luck going our way the runs were knocked off quickly in the 10th over with Broadbeach passing our score to secure the points in what was a pretty impressive performance from them and clearly the team to beat this year on what we saw.

Highlights were very limited in the field with Chris Shultz 3 overs 0/7 the pick of the bowlers,

So with 3 games left our season now hangs by a thread needing to win all 3 games and a couple of results to go our way to play finals but we will pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off and have a red hot crack at doing just that.

Over 50’s Orange

It was great to get back out and finally play some Vets Cricket on Sunday for our 1st game in 2025 after two Wash Outs .

The Bay 50s Orange Won the Toss against Helenvale and elected to Bat 1st on a very good looking Loxton - 2 track , thinking 200 would be hard to chase down .

Sean and Rob got us of to a flyer with Sean scoring a run a Ball 27 before getting caught half way turning for a 2nd and getting run out , No No No - out .

I will leave that one with Rob & Sean to debate .

Enter Jimmy Phillips who settled in & batted Beautifully for 50 not out from 50 balls .

Jason Hay 38 retiring from Heat Exhaustion , the rest of us nibbled about and got the final score to a solid 6/192 from our 40 overs.

Helensvale have a decent batting side and we were thinking 200 would be a good bench mark .

Due to Big Jas being under the weather he sat off the first 10 overs with Terry and Rob opening up .

Helensvale opening Bats got them off to a flyer , we swapped Rob out and the Skip handed the Ball to the Wildly Old Vet The King to charge into the Wind .

The King struck with a LBW with him & Terry slowing down the run rate as The King sent another on his way the last ball before Drinks .

It was game on with Helensvale needing 4.5 a over from their last 20 with Rappo 40 not out and hitting the Ball Beatifully for the Vale .

The Bay struck quickly after drinks with Terry clean bowling Rappo with a Peach and The King Picking up another LBW .

Enter Jay Kangur & Jeff Lindemann for the Vale who both put the foot down and scored some very quick runs getting the Vale rite back into the game before Terry Trapped Jay infront plum LBW .

Jason Hay picking up a quick one with Paul Gardiner getting Lindemann caught by Muzz at Mid On .

It was going down to the death the Bay needing 3 - wickets and the Vale a run a Ball , it was hit and giggle cricket which over the last 5 overs the Vale came out on top passing The Bay Score at 8/193

in the 37th over .

A Fantastic game of cricket played in the correct spirit with nothing left in the tank from two very evenly matched sides .

Cheers .

Matty .

Colin and Jackson Wakefield win Saturdays Meat Tray

Over 50’s Division 2

Sunday we headed up the M1 to take on Alberton. We arrived to see the covers already off for a change displaying 2 wickets, one from Saturday and a brand new green top. Nice I thought, couple of mediums and 3 leg spinners on a seamers wicket. Win the toss and bowl was my goal. Lost the toss, they chose to bat. Started with Larry and myself and soon we had the breakthrough. Larry was bowling like a man half his age considering not that long ago he had been at a 100 year school reunion.

2/9 in his first spell and we had them 3 down. On with the spinners, 2 good ones and 1 that bowled rubbish. There middle order dug in with the next 2 batter both reaching 50. They ended with 7/206.

Out to bat with clear instructions. Bat to get the runs not to survive! Gilly believed and wacked a couple of 4s before edging on to slip. Only 2 batters made it to double figures, Andrew Rodrick finding some form with 28 and Phil Holzinger with 17. We were dismissed for 99 and headed straight to the bar for some refreshments.

Matty.
