First Grade

The 1st grade were home for the final game before the break against broadbeach on a lovely warm day at the Aussielec Oval.
I managed to lose the toss for the 7th time in a row which definitely has played a big factor on these last couple of games. Sam Loxton on was looking lovely and Suranga bowled an excellent first spell taking 2 wickets up top and looking completely unplayable. After that they had a very strong partnership putting on 107 runs. Unfortunately we missed a few half chances which could have changed the game. Monib came on and got that breakthrough and it was our turn to pile the pressure on. Suranga then got there in form bat out and we had them 189-4. We tries to restrict them to a lower score as possible with Mo coming back on and claiming an excellent 5fer. 5-25.
We restricted them to 251.
Unfortunately, we lost an early wicket but Connor and Jaydn put on a 40 run partnership to get us to 44-2 when Jaydn was dismissed. We lost a few more cheaply and found ourselves 72-4 before James Stirling and Corey put on a fightback getting us to 153. Corey and Sterlo battled hard out there trying to get us into a position to have a late surge. However with a few runouts it left sterlo by himself as our last chance. It was a step too far but Sterlo had an excellent knock finishing on 62 from 68 balls. It finished in defeat this week but we will have a break and come back fighting after Christmas.

🎄Runaway Bay Cricket Club – 2025 Christmas Party! 🎄
This Christmas, more than any - we needed joy.
Two hundred people came to the Bay Hawaiian Christmas Party on Saturday night.
The biggest gathering in the history of our club.

The night saw stories, laughter, lamb cutlets, drunken I-LOVE-YOU’s & Stacey performing the worm.
Connor Boyd won the $1200 Member’s Draw and Jaydn Denly took out the fabled Bay Gift.

2nd Grade

Round 12 of the season marked it’s halfway point and the final match of the calendar year as the Bay 2s battled the school holiday traffic heading south, to take on Broadbeach. A blustery gale made the otherwise intense heat marginally more bearable to those of us suffering whom had kicked off the end of year festivities during the week. Understanding that it was probably a good toss to lose, I duly obliged by calling incorrectly and as the face of Queen Elizabeth looked up at me, the opposing skipper announced that the home side would have a bat.
A few last-minute changes to squads owing to illness had the greatest impact on Timmy Murdoch. After being dropped, re-admitted and then informed that he was required to wicket keep just 30minutes before play was to commence, poor Timmy might have been forgiven for cutting a confused and forlorn figure as he donned the batting pads and under 10s keeping gloves we had found for him in the away sheds. Stevie (0-28 from 8) kicked off proceedings from the southern end, but this week struggled with and against the intermittent northerly gusts. George got the ball rolling (both literally and figuratively) from the northern end. The last ball of George’s first over caught the edge of the right-handed Broady opener and we all held our breath as the ball moved towards our stand-in wicket keeper. No sooner had the ball made contact with the bat, than Timmy shouted ‘yours!’ as the ball whizzed past his un-moving right hand at a comfortable height. As Travis toppled to his left, luckily for the Bay 2s, the ball struck him clean in the hand and we had our first wicket. ‘Good loud call Timmy’. A few overs later George (2-29 from 8) was back at it again as he claimed his second wicket. The arrival of Broady’s captain signalled danger for us and given how much we needed to see the back of him cheaply, I opted for an early injection of T.Harker. After lacing a few drives to cover and mid-off, the opposing skipper wasn’t quite sharp enough to keep Harker’s faster one out and the fall of the crucial 3rd wicket, saw the home side just short of 50 runs. While Travis tied things up from the southern end ADHD Billing bowled a couple of promising overs for 12 before it was time to get Tom Gossett into the game. Between Tom (3-14 from 8) and Travis (3-16 from 8) the scoring just about completely dried up as wickets tumbled regularly. The end of Travis’ spell saw my introduction at the southern end as I waddled through 7 boring overs returning 0-23. Jawid (1-10 from 1.1) cleaned up the tail in good time this week and upon claiming the final wicket LBW, Broadbeach had been dismissed for 140 runs from 39.1 overs.
For those whom read my previous report, you might remember that I made a point to say Timmy Murdoch was having a hard time of things in December 2025. After crashing his scooter and subsequently sustaining a concussion, Timmy slept through his alarm after working the night shift and arrived 2hrs late to last week’s fixture. Tom Gossett then added insult to head injury as he diabolically ran Tim out that same afternoon. Things only got worse for Timmy when on this Friday morning he was informed that he had been dropped to 3s. Despite being justified, Tim’s demotion had only been made temporary given our 2 potential wicket keepers in Proctor and Creed were both out with illnesses. Maybe today was the day things would turn around. After keeping wicket well beyond my low-set expectations, Timmy strode out and paired with me to open the batting. Timmy kicked off proceedings by belting the cover off the first ball of the innings. Timmy cut the short, wide delivery straight to the point fielder who took a good, low catch but as the Broady team commenced the standard hooting and hollering that so often follows an early wicket, the umpire extended his left arm, perpendicular to his body to signal a no-ball. Nope, it wasn’t a front foot no ball. The standing umpire insisted that the bowler had dislodged the far bail at the non-strikers end during his delivery stride. While noting silently to myself that bails at both ends had blown off perhaps 10-15 times during our bowling innings, I concluded that an umpire’s decision should always be respected. Accordingly, I remained silent as the Broady fielders voiced disgruntled objections to the decision. The following free hit, was gleefully accepted by Timmy as he pulled the delivery away through mid-wicket for 4. Just a few balls later, and with a flourish of the blade, Timmy had 4 more. Having sized up Broady’s second opening bowler Timmy shaved another 12 runs off the score. With Timmy looking in such control I figured I’d done my job and that it was probably best to give someone else a bat. As I trudged off for 0(8) shortly after succumbing to a legside strangling, I was happy with my efforts, having been a part of a 31 run opening stand in just 4 overs. Hocart, 4(6) came and went cheaply this week and when Tom Gossett was out just a few overs later the score was 3-59. After crashing a few more to the boundary Tim departed for a scintillating 43(39). With the run rate completely under control and a bonus point still likely, Sam Heathwood and Lucas Frazer steadied the ship and steered us towards safe waters before Lucas was out for 16(22). With the score past 100, and only 18 overs gone, the time was perfect for some well… Jawid-stuff. Noting the danger man, Sam expertly protected Jawid from the Broady seamers and left the spinners at Jawid’s mercy. Needing no invitation, Jawid happily provided some early holiday fireworks as he thrashed 33*(16) with two 4s and four enormous 6s, one of which sailed southward, out of the ground, through the tennis courts and into Merrimac State High School. Sam Heathwood held it all together through the middle just as he had done the previous week with a classy, safe 27*(36) that saw us finish up at 5-145 from just 22.5 overs. Bonus point secured!
Wow, what better way to end the calendar year than being top of the table by 1.5 wins. We’ve played some sensational cricket so far this season and in the later weeks we have really shown that we can grind out results when the pressure is on. Best of all, we are winning fair and remaining true to the principles of the Bay H.E.A.R.T. I’m looking forward to continuing our winning form as we move into 2026.
Stay safe over the holiday’s fellas. May everyone’s households be filled with peace, love, merriment and of course a 5 nil, Ashes clean sweep.

3rd Grade

Today we rocked up to Sam Lozton 2 to take on Jimboomba which was a very important game with Loganholme (close 3rd) right on our tail for 2nd, a win today meant we jumped them by a game and a half post Christmas. The drama started before the match with Chris Bartlett seeming to be a little bit stressed out when he saw no Jimboomba players 40 minutes before the first ball, he strolled up and down looking at all angles of entrance to the Runawaybay cricket club worried there wouldn’t be a game. To his delight, Jimboomba decided to rock up 35 minutes before the game, he has a sigh of relief and he assured us it was game on! Shorty decided to put the boundaries in this week, making it 40m boundaries on a flat deck. With what looked like a day to bat and score 280+, Noodle won the toss and decided to bat. Cam Davies and Josh Hoare opened up but unfortunately both openers fell early and we were 2/5. Chris Bartlett and Angus Richardson put on 27 until Chris snicked off to a bowler that averages 50 with the ball this season, he had is usually 5 minute tantrum back was then back with the boys enjoying his Saturday. Then Angus decided he missed Chris too much so got bowled the next over leaving us 4/33 in very big trouble. The sleep in Hamza and Taika were at the crease, Hamza hit a few boundaries for 21, Taika looked goof for 9, then suddenly 6/71… Then the great “blind” Mitchell Mcphee came in and scored 41 hitting great boundaries to keep us in the game, shorty fell around him at 7/93, then the Great Mcphee got us to 120 when he fell with the 8th wicket. The tail end (will soaking up some good balls) and Mitchell Bailey and Noodle putting on a valuable 16 for the last wicket. Meaning we set a low total of 136 on a 280 deck and field. The boys were fired up and believed we could defend this. Out we came to bowl, Jimboomba opened up with a quite large man who was chirping all day in the covers, telling us how excited he was to bat on this wicket and hwo easy it was. He strolled out cocky as ever, Chris Bartlett had a stern word to him before he faced up. Then, on the flattest wickets and the best field to bat on the coast. Mitchell Bailey (my goat) Snicked him off 3rd ball and all 11 of us went right to him celebrating and letting him know they are 1/0!! It was the loudest I have ever heard a cricket field and the way our boys celebrated that was inspirational. We were fired up and the vibes were up! Mitchell Bailey continued to bowled magnificently bowling their number 3 for 2. Then Josh Hoare joining the party making Jimboomba 3 for 4! Boy o boy! The bay boys are in this! Mitchell Bailey then got another wicket making Jimboomba 4/16! They then had a partnership and Jake Schultz got a important wicket Jimboomba now 5/69 at drinks. It was game on, they needed 67 runs, we needed 5 wickets. First ball after drinks, my lover Cam Davies got a wicket first ball.. 6/69! We are back! Jared Austin and Cam bowled in partnerships with Jared getting his first for the day making them 7/81. They had their captain make 50 odd then and all off a sudden they were 7/114 only needed 23 runs to win But wait!! The great Mitchell Bailey came back on and made him hit a catch right to the Bartlett, the big fish was out of the water!! 8/114! Then Jared Austin bullying the 10 and 11 batters knocking them off with 9/118 then 10/120 with a great catch from Josh Hoare. We all ran in and celebrated out best win fo the season. This team has really gelled and this win has given us so much belief heading into the new year. Im so proud of how our bowlers and our team reacted to defending a low total. That was the closest I have ever felt with a team. Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Third Grade are 9-0

Match report 4th grade navy
Surprise we won the toss again & this time decided to bowl & that turned out to be the worst decision ever as mudgee ended up 0 - 318 from there 36 overs.. hopefully the we all get a crazy catch for xmas ha ha.. Not many highlights in the bowling except greeny who bowled out of this world for no luck, great fun for keeping.. Batting We switched it up a bit this week with a mammoth chase & had Jacko & Jamie open. Jacko didnt last long which brought out Wahab who after last week wanted to prove a point & that he did, came out swinging. Jamie went a couple of over later which brought Jim out & he got dropped from the keeper (absolute sitter)(he made them pay) & these 2 made for great viewing putting on 150 plus partnership at a fair rate.. Wahab made 79 & there is a bit of controversy with his wicket as it looked like it went for 6 but the fielder says he was inside the boundary.. Then we lost hamad & flynn quickly.. Matty came out with 5 overs to go still needing 110 & jim Needing 27 for his century.. got to the last over Jim on strike needing 1 run.. He lost his off stump he absolutely deserved the 100 the way he batted & guided the team.. Lost by 55 in the end but couldnt be more proud of the boys even getting whacked for 300 plus they didnt give up hope..
MERRY XMAS from myself & all the boys in this Navy side we will come back in the new year better

4th Grade Orange

4s orange vs Broadbeach
Another week another road trip for the road warriors that are the 4s Orange team, this week we were at Merrimac High school to play Broadbeach,
Losing the toss as usual we were put into the field on what can only be described as an odd shaped oval, we also had a stiff breeze blowing down from the school end to contend with,
Josh Foenander opened the bowling and was dangerous early grabbing the first wicket the 4th ball 1/2 great start,
James Munro opened against the wind and also started very well grabbing our 2nd wicket in his first over 2/9 we were off to a great start, josh then struck again in his 3 over having them at 3/22 was a perfect start, it was a fast scoring ground so continuing to take wickets was crucial to keeping them to a score we could chase down,
Unfortunately the wickets dried up as the experienced Mark Middleton and their new 11am signing used the conditions to their advantage with some powerful striking the pair put on 142 run partnership before josh took a fantastic catch off Jamie to remove middleton for 68,
Unfortunately this joy was short lived as the set batsman Burgess continued his power hitting the 5th wicket fell at 234 when Nate took a well deserved wicket after some chances went down,
That was our last success though as we keep them to 286 which was a good a score but with 1 guy making 166 of them on what was a very fast scoring ground we thought we were a chance if we batted well,
Our bowlers toiled hard but the very small margins for error making it difficult the stand out performance with the ball was Noah McQueen who bowled a magnificent spell of spin bowling against 2 very set and dangerous batters, his figures 0/13 off 6 ovs @ 2.16 runs an over showed how well he bowled,
Josh also bowled well up front with 2/31(6),
James munro 1/45 (5)
Jamie Lennix 1/48(6)
Nate Foenander 1/58(5)
Jack Castle & Kane Taylor 0/40
So the challenge was there for us,
We started with James Munro &
Chris Castle needing to get off to a good start but unfortunately that wasn to be with James out 1st ball of the innings,
Josh joined Chris but that wasn’t to last long either as he was given out caught off his pad by the paid umpire the 1st one we have had all year,
Not a great start 2/9 the same score broady had lost their 2nd wicket,
Kane joined chris and the pair got some momentum going our way before Kane went for 22, 3/46 off 6.5 overs put us in front of them at same stage they were 3/39.
Stephen Wolf strode to the crease in his customary no5 spot and with chris the boys put the attack back on Broadbeach putting on an 80 run partnership when chris unfortunately fell just before drinks for a well made 57 off 42 balls 6x 4s & 2 6s,
At the half way point 20 overs we were 4/136 with the comparison at 20 overs broadbeach was 3/131 so this was anybody’s game,
Col came in and after hitting a couple of quick boundaries perished chasing a half tracker, next in was Jack Castle (19) who batted well and the boys put on a 52 run partnership keeping us in the hunt, That brought Jamie to the crease at 6/193 needing 92 off 79 balls this was going to get tight with Wolfy still there and batting brilliantly if he could be there at the end we were a big chance to run down the total,
This was an important partnership if we were going to get over the line, and that is what the boys produced with 2 overs to go we needed 48 to win, it was looking grim but a big over kept the flame of hope burning 18 off the over 31 to win, could we pull off the unthinkable? Jamie started the over with 4 then 6, 21 off 4 what a win this would be if we got there, then the unthinkable an attempted quick single and a direct hit found wolfy short of his ground and his amazing innings came to end agonisingly close to the finish 103 off 78 balls 9 4s & 5 6s a fantastic effort, with everything he as endured to witness this was was truly amazing!! personally i couldn’t be prouder and happier to see him achieve this, nobody deserves it more then you Wolfy well done mate you are champion and an inspiration for us all,
Unfortunately a mix up next ball found Noah run out, and the game was gone so close but so far finishing on 8-265 falling 20 short,
Jamie finished unbeaten on his season personal best of 37no off 32 2 4s & 3 6s,
a great effort again another game we were close without getting the result hopefully after Christmas we get some home games that can change our fortunes & we get some results and push up the ladder,
A big thank you to all our supporters who have travelled with us all year so far, scorer Mel & Jackson the Castle, Foenander, Secombe, McQueen, Lennix, Munro, Wolf & Bird Families that have been there to support us a Merry Christmas and happy New Year to all of you and to all of the Bay family enjoy the break and see you next year Go Bay!!!

Abinash Bohara Shines with the Ball in Nepal Premier League
Runaway Bay Cricket Club is proud to recognise an outstanding achievement by our own Abinash Bohara, who recently delivered a remarkable performance in the Nepal Premier League (NPL), firmly establishing himself as one of the tournament’s leading bowlers.
Representing the Sudur Paschim Royals, Abinash played a key role in a highly successful campaign that saw the Royals finish runners-up in a fiercely contested competition. Across nine matches, Abinash showcased his skill, consistency, and composure with the ball, finishing the tournament as equal top wicket-taker with 17 wickets — an exceptional return at this level.
Time and again, Abinash provided crucial breakthroughs for his team, whether striking early with the new ball or delivering under pressure in key moments. His ability to combine discipline with attacking intent made him a constant threat and a vital part of the Royals’ bowling attack throughout the tournament.
These performances have rightly been rewarded, with Abinash earning a call-up to the Nepal national cricket camp as preparations begin for upcoming international fixtures and the long-term build-up toward the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026. Selection in the national camp reflects both his outstanding recent form and the confidence selectors have in his ability to perform at the highest level.
For everyone at Runaway Bay Cricket Club, Abinash’s success is a tremendous source of pride. His journey is a powerful example of where dedication, hard work, and belief can lead, and he continues to inspire players across all levels of our club.
We congratulate Abinash on an outstanding Nepal Premier League campaign and wish him every success as he takes the next step with the national setup. The Runaway Bay cricket family will be following his progress closely and cheering him on every step of the way.

5th Grade

Fifth Grade Match Report
Runaway Bay vs Tamborine – Sam Loxton 4 Bizza arrived still strutting from last week’s bowling exploits. He also spent the week on Ancestry.com, where he discovered we were well placed for victory at Sam Loxton 4, noting that Tamborine were missing 8 of the brothers and 4 cousins from their usual line up. Armed with this irrefutable evidence—and his firm belief that we always bat first—the decision was made: we’d bowl.
We stuck with our number one gun, Grossy, who looked relaxed, calm, and bowled beautifully. Unfortunately, this composure proved too much for Jamie. Presented with a catch that even Phil Tufnell would have swallowed, Jamie grassed it and immediately blamed the keeper for “jumping in front” and Fridge for being passive aggressive at second slip. This moment brought on the bowler we truly needed: Grumpy Grossy. Grumpy talked himself into a spell of 4 for 14, before being last seen reminding himself that leading the league averages might result in an unexpected regrading to Firsts by the 24th. Fridge then entered the attack with clear instructions to jump in front of first slip, which were followed with absolute discipline by the slips cordon—no errors - no catches to Jamie. Quinny, without his usual Vegas driving partner and wary of the banter levels, blamed the driving conditions and so we introduced a couple of unknown quantities. They may have looked young, but they bowled with real maturity—Sam and Quad combining for three wickets. Quinny was promptly regraded to Second Grade. Tamborine were bowled out for 99.
True to his word, Bizza declared, “Stick with the line-up, boys,” before immediately throwing the magnets around. Despite being under pressure at 3–37, 4–37, and 5–55, the boys remained calm. Any nerves were quickly settled as the team regrouped and romped home in 18.2 overs. A strong team win for Runaway Bay. As we finished early the boys decided to remain classy . . . especially Schuy.

6th Grade

This week we took on the formidable Surfers Red at home. With a captains agreement and shake of the hands we decided to avoid the toss and we batted first. This game marked the highly anticipated return of our Giant Killer from injury. Welcome back Haz!
We opened the batting with Greg and Heath "Slats" Slater. It was a slow start as Greg struggled to fire and went cheap but Slats was classy in his run a ball 35 before missing a straight one. These wickets brought about the famous Bay 6 grade collapse losing Haz, Arran and Aidan in quick succession. Lachy came in at 6 and showed guts as he dug in, stopped the wicket bleeding and then went on the counter attack when I joined him. He made an extremely impressive 18 that saved us from embarrassment. We were 5/60 at drinks. I must commend Lachy for his running between wickets. We took so many runs due to the backing up, good calling and running the first one hard so cudos to him.
For any youngsters reading this, if there's anything that you should do well, its just that. You can add so many runs to the score, and more importantly, add massive amounts of pressure to the opposition which creates opportunities for your team. Coyney came and went, so Dale joined me in the middle with a bright smile despite carrying an injury from last week, as we went about swinging for the hills to try and reach a total we could defend. Luckily we took our chances after some catches went down and went through unbeaten in a 96 run partnership, as we worked our way to 7/212. We thought the score was on the low side, but if we bowled well, we could defend it.
The King opened with The Giant Killer and to no surprise our Giant Killer took the first wicket of arguably Surfers best batter with an unplayable ball that swung in and nipped back sending the captains poles on a mission to reach the nearby skate park. The King struck next over with a bouncer in which I've never seen him bowl before as the battergloved it through to an eager Greg behind the stumps. King was latter heard talking on the phone to emergency services as they calmed him saying he must have had a back spasm, as they didn't believe he had a bouncer in him either. It was 2/16 and we were up and about. Our fielding was magnificent considering the speed of the outfield and the most notable player was Lachy, who dived to stop and chase balls to the boundary like a man possessed in an exemplary display, and saving around 30 runs single handedly in the process.
Unfortunately some good batting from Surfers saw the put on a 118 run partnership until Coyney fired one in and the batter smashed one back at him that would have only left the ground by about 10cm and to everyone's surprise, somehow he caught it at his ankles. Some say it was an act of self preservation, but I strongly believe, he too had a back spasm, fell over, and the ball somehow lodged into his hands in the process. This was the breakthrough we desperately needed. Dale and I bowled the remaining overs of the game. I took 3 quick wickets thanks to quality catching by Dale, Greg, and the safest hands in Runaway Bay Aidan. Dale took 2 good wickets to give us a fighting chance with one being caught by Lachy, quickly running backwards and taking a magnificent catch at full, back arching stretch that he had no right to take. We took this one to the wire, but unfortunately they chased us down in the final over of the game.
We really missed a few players who were late outs this week. But I do have to congratulate Quaid on being promoted to 5th grade. He seized his opportunity and took a wicket in the process. As for our performance this week, everyone gave it everything they had. We got behind each other with encouragement and stepped up when it was our turn. Yes, it's disappointing to lose, but we really did win. We won at Humility, Enjoyment, Ambition, Respect and Teamwork. All the HEART values our great club pride ourselves in. We had a great game against a friendly opposition in a nail biter to end the year, how good is cricket! Have a safe and Merry Christmas everyone. See you all in the new year!

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 50’s Orange

Over 50’s Orange Match Report
Runaway Bay vs Burleigh – Sam Loxton Oval 2
The Over 50’s Orange team was lucky enough to finish the year with a home game against Burleigh at the picturesque Sam Loxton Oval 2, just before the Christmas break 🎄🏏.
Arriving in the morning, it was clear the Bays Christmas party had been a roaring success… judging by the evidence still scattered around the ground. Credit must go to Terry “Blacktop” Blacktop, who took it upon himself to start the clean-up. Above and beyond, Terry—cheers mate 👏🧹.
As more players arrived, it became painfully obvious that Christmas festivities were still in full swing. A few of the old fellas looked a bit slower, a bit sorer, and definitely a bit older 😴🎅.
With our brave captain side-lined due to a mysterious back injury allegedly caused by manicuring his mum’s rose bushes 🌹🤔, Jason Hay was appointed skipper for the day. Jason had one job… and failed spectacularly—losing the toss and sending us out to field on what was shaping up to be an absolute scorcher ☀️🥵.
Terry Blacktop opened the bowling, and it was poetry in motion. The classic action, matching sweatbands, and genuine menace ripping through the top order—it was a sight to behold 👀🔥. Terry was easily the pick of the bowlers, finishing with a superb 3/26 off 7 overs.
Burleigh didn’t help themselves, gifting us two run-outs in the same over, leaving them wobbling at 6/60 😬. To their credit, they dug in with some solid partnerships and eventually posted 184 off their 40 overs. Jason Hay chipped in with 1/14, Hamad Ahmad with 1/27, both backing up Terry’s stellar performance.
The fielding… well… let’s call it “enthusiastic but inconsistent” 😅. Jim Phillips took a catch keeping but looked like he was having some sort of medical episode while doing so, and there were several brave diving attempts that didn’t quite go to plan 🤕🐬.
The Chase 🏃♂️💨
Hamad Ahmad and Brendan Ball opened the batting and got us off to a strong start, putting on 52 before Brendan fell for 17. Jim Phillips joined Hamad for another steady partnership before Hamad brought up a well-made 50 off 47 balls 👏.
Enter Travis Harker, who had wisely clarified with Captain Jason that he had a full licence to attack—mainly because he was still hungover from the Christmas party 🍻😆. Harker made the most of it, smashing 50 off just 35 balls, and when he retired, the score stood at 2/158, needing just 26 for victory.
We cruised home with overs to spare, despite Bob (4) and Jason (15) departing late. That left the two big shows—Colin Wakefield and Michael Kennedy—to calmly whack the winning runs 🏏💥.
A great team win to round out the year and head into the Christmas break on a high.
Big win, great laughs, and a very Happy New Year to all! 🎉🍾

Sunday 21 December 2025
Runaway Bay Over 50s Navy vs Helensvale Hawks at Hession Oval, Helensvale.
Winning the toss, RBCC Navy has no hesitation in batting first on a flat dry wicket. After a disappointing start, Murray Whyte and Ian Coyne dug in and steadied the Navy ship but unfortunately Murray (29) and Ian (47) both lost their wickets just when they were looking strong. The Helensvale bowlers did their job, great control well supported by their fielding. No wag in the Navy tail, our innings completed at 8 for 137 after 40 overs.
The Helensvale openers got away to a flyer with Nigel Nulty punishing any ball too short or too full, retiring on 50 from 24 balls with 3 massive straight 6s. The bowlers got no return for their efforts, Helensvale running out easy winners 0 for 138 after 21 overs. Rod Venn toiled hard and was the best of the Navy bowlers.
