Seniors 13 & 14/12/2025

First Grade

The 1st grade went away to coomera on a lovely hot day. The pitch and ground was looking really good and no rain about for the first time in a while. I lost the toss again which played quite a big part in the game. We bowled first and Suranga started really well. He was very unlucky not to take a wicket. He went past the edge numerous times. He bowled all 9 over up front for 0-35. There batmen batted excellently with there Opening batsmen getting 128 of 87 balls supported at the other end. It didn’t really stop there with their no 3 scoring 65 of 34 and their no 4 scoring a very impressive 73 of 29. The boys stuck at it really well for a long period of time and showed some excellent character. Especially Ted who bowled really tightly when it was being blasted around him. 8 overs for 54. Coomera set us a target of 339. We went out with a real purpose to try and chase this target down on a nice surface.

We lost a few early ones but Jaydn Denly came to the crease and looked in really nice touch from ball one. He scored a sublime 110 of 86 balls with 5 sixes and and 10 fours. His first 100 for the Bay and the second 100 scored for the 1’s this season. Corey looked in great touch and hit a huge six chasing 10’s. Everyone else contributed and we scored 255 of 39 overs. There were plenty of positives to take away from this game and the boys will go again next week as we complete the first half of the season in second.

2nd Grade

With Sam Loxton 1 looking a picture and with just about perfect weather conditions, the stage was set for the Bay 2s to get back into winning form as we took on Coomera. A hard, grassy deck which apparently harboured some thatch suggested that a successful toss would best be followed by a decision to bat. Sadly, it wasn’t to be and as the coin landed on the tails side, the opposing skipper sent us into the field.

As usual Stevie ‘Weekly’ Watson took the new ball and began proceedings with a maiden albeit wicketless over. George partnered Stevie from the southern end and responded in kind, which saw the Coomerians leaving themselves with 38 overs from which to post a total. Stevie in a charitable mood (tis the season) let George take the first wicket as George snicked off an opener for the first wicket (1-11). We had to wait a little for Stevie’s response that came in the 11th over as he first snicked off another opener to a sharp catch by Nath behind the pegs. No sooner than 2 balls later, Stevie had his second as the Coomera captain scooped a ball straight to cover to see the Crocs slump to 3-37. George (1-20 from 8) and Stevie (2-22 from 8) really set the tone this week by keeping it tight for the first 16 overs. After a 10 week wait to see what all the hype was about, Austin Billing replaced Steve from the Northern end for his first bowl of the season. After meticulously marking out his run up, Aus (1-24 from 3) stuttered in and hurled a ball down that passed at least 3m over the batter’s head and might have gone for a two-bounce 4 had George not cut it off on the boundary. Tune in at 1:11:50 on the Frogbox to take a look. Tom Gossett (0-38 from 7), returning to the side, replaced George from the southern end and received some unexpected tap while at the northern end, Aus picked up an LBW to announce his return to bowling. Cam Davies (2-20 from 3) took the reins from Austin and picked up the crucial wicket of Coomera’s no.5 who was well established. With Tom struggling against a gale and with the score creeping up past 130, it was time for a quick strike by Jawid. Sadly this week, Jawid didn’t return his usual miraculous figures as he was belted out of the attack within a single over that went for 19 runs. Jawid’s solitary over featured 2 enormous sixes, somewhat akin to many of the blows Jawid himself has inflicted at Loxton 1. With the Coomera score nudging 150, Harker (2-20 from 6) struck twice from the northern end and just like that we thought we’d be chasing 170. A few hefty blows saw the Coomera total reach 185 as I (2-15 from 3.1) closed out the innings with a successful LBW shout.

Nath Proctor and Timmy Murdoch paired to kick off our response and as the two cruised towards twenty runs, I began to feel very safe standing, umpiring at square leg. After a couple of promising strokes, Nath 9(18) top edged a short delivery in the 6th over. Tom replaced Proctor and as usual put the foot down right from ball one. After recovering from a barfight then sleeping through his alarm resulting in a late arrival to the ground, it was fair to say that Timmy Murdoch is having a rough time of it in December 2025. Cruelly, Tim’s fortunes only worsened. After a promising start to his innings, Tim was run out for 18(34) when Tom dropped and ran off a nudge directly to the point fielder. With the score at 2-46 Sam Heathwood strode to the crease and looked to steady the ship. Sam and Tom put on stabilising 46 run partnership before Tom was dismissed by a snorting delivery that struck him plumb in front for 40(44). While Sam dug his heals in and consistently hit the boundary, Lucas Frazer upon return to the 2s, looked to be in great touch. It took a spectacular catch at midwicket to dismiss Lucas 8 (23). The wickets column was looking good at 4/111 but with just 13 overs remaining to score another 75 runs, Sam and Aus needed to push the field and hit the occasional boundary. A few overs later and with the required run rate creeping up towards 7 an over, it was time for the pair to hit out. Both Aus and Sam duly obliged by smashing 6s in quick succession as Sam also brought up a classy half century from just 68 deliveries. After such a display of patience, power and finesse, it was only fair that just a few overs later Sam got to belt the winning runs to finish unbeaten on 57*(75). Austin played the perfect support role, finishing with 25*(31) but the play of the day was all Sam’s. After absorbing so much pressure and weathering the barrage of quick bowling from the Coomerians, Sam cashed-in on the tired legs of the opposing attack and picked up the pace of his innings exactly when required. Recovering from a required run rate at nearly 7 an over with six overs remaining to win this one in 37.3 overs illustrated just how well Aus and Sam timed their final dashes towards the finish line.

This was a quality performance against a reasonable side. Despite some loose bowling in places, we pulled it together with the ball and chased a moderate total expertly. We look ahead to next week as we round out the calendar year hoping for a win against Broadbeach away from home.

Patrick.

RBCC V QUEENS 3rd grade We travelled out to pimpama sporting complex to play Queens, After winning the toss and looking at the pitch which looked terrible to bat on we decided to have a bowl, We opened up with Mitch Bailey and Jake Shultz both boys bowled extremely well jake backing up from a monster morning of junior cricket when he took 6 fa had the Queens lads in all sorts. Jake only bowled 4 overs for us as I didn’t want him to over do it as he is only 1 game back from a neck injury his figures were 2-21 off his 4, Mitch Bailey was far too good for the queens batsman totally unplayable finishing with 1-12 off his 8, Josh Hoare came on after Jake and bowled very consistent again having a couple of dropped catches off his bowling but still finished with figures of 2-23 off his 8, Jared Austin came on after bailey bowled tight 1-20 off 8, Hamza and Mcphee came on both bowled well until there last over each Mcphee taking a wicket in his first over after 3 overs he was 1-7 then his last over went for 14 while Hamza took a bit of tap off his last over for 16, Will Altass bowled a cameo at the end taking 1 wicket for 13, we had Queens on the ropes all innings but their tail wagged quite well for them as they ended up 9-138 after 40 overs the were 84 after 35 overs, We came out to bat prepared as we knew the pitch had a lot of demons in it and we needed to bat positively as well as smart but knew we could chase this, we opened up with Josh and Brendo both boys looking a million dollars until one stayed low on brendo and we lost him for 16, Gussy came out to battle with Josh and top edged it off his 4th ball while Hamza done a similar thing off the same amount of balls, not long after that all happened we lost Josh for 23 so we had 2 new bats at the crease with that being Chris Bartlett and Taika Hoare, both lads running well between the wickets but also hitting five 4s each, Bartlett playng another vital innings for us being caught and bowled for 43 and Taika carrying his bat for a much needed 38 not out off 56 balls, The maturity the young Taika showed with the bat this week was exceptional, Will Altass supported Taika at the end to finish 2 not out which took our score to 5-140 off 27 overs to secure a bonus point and still undefeated 3rd grade side

Lewis came in for a whack & hit 5 6ers.. Partnership of the day was Jacko (59no) & hamad (41) who put on 88 to give us something to bowl at..

We finished on 226 & were pretty confident with the ball & there openers didn’t wanna lose one early until Jack got 1.. Wahab a couple of overs later decided to get wickets in consecutive overs & at drinks we had them 3 - 153 so still confident if we could get 2 more early.. Hamish came on after drinks & got 1 & that was it for us..

Round 11 & we find ourselves in a season defining game against an inform Queens at Luke Northam oval. Bizza won the toss & decided to have a bat. Jamie & Critto strode to the crease with intent & then Jamie strode back, caught behind for 2. That brought Conan out to the middle & soon after he was sent packing for 1, The Bay now 2/3 off 2 overs. Cappy joined Critto & they got into their work, reserrecting the innings before Critto departed for a brisk 32 off 22, sharing an 89 run parnership with Cappy. Brad was next in, him & Cappy put on 25 before our newest recruit, Cappy was caught on the boundary for a blistering 71 off 49. Bizza was next in & next out, his contribution 14 from 9, blaming the pitch, bowled from a full toss! It was at this point he resigned from the world, the club, 5th grade & the captaincy, blaming the concrete strip in the middle of Dux oval, also declaring he was too good for the rest of the team & probably should be playing 1st grade. After his little meltdown, Duane decided to setup camp on the other side of the ground & when it was his turn to bat the opposition likened it to the serial pest Jarvo, appearing from nowhere! Anyway Bizza cooled down & reinstated himself back as captain & the game went on. Snitty was next in & with his fellow Foxtonian Brad, they combined for an entertaining 67 run partnership before Brad was caught for 44. Azza was next, a luxury at no.8, he plundered their attack, adding 33 off 16, Grossy came & went for 1 & Duane finished 3 not out with Snitty the other not out batsman finishing with an entertaining 57 not out off 52 with another 4 6’s to add to his 4 from last game bringing his tally to 8 from 2 hits. We finished with 8/271 from our 36 overs not bad considering our start. Their turn with the bat, we opened with Duane & when the 1st 4 balls all reached the boundary, 271 didnt seem enough. Duane picked up a wicket with the 5th ball of the over, before the last ball also reached the boundary, Queens 1/20 off 1 over. Schuey opened at the other end & the theme continuued, Queens now 1/38 off 2. Bizza decided Azza was the answer with the ball & it wasn’t long before the next breakthrough, picking up not 1 but 2 wickets in a row, Queens now 3/51. Grossy was next, his 3 overs conceding just 9 runs. Schuey faired a little better in his 2nd spell, finishing with 1/41 from his 6. Bizza decided he would bowl next & after he dismissed an 11 year old he declared the next ball to their best batter would be a bouncer, & he would be caught via a top edge but when it hit him in the calf we all knew he had no idea what he was doing & should probably be relieved from his bowling duties. Anyway, he perservered & 5 more wickets later finished Queens off for 118, his figures 6/14 from 4.4. The reinstated skipper strutted around like a peacock with not only us but the opposition given a rundown of every wicket taken whilst we all enjoyed a bevvy & a snag organised by Critto. We learnt 3 things today: our best bowler has turned into our best batter, our best batter is now our best bowler & despite the poms not mastering Bazball, Runaway Bay 5th grade have mastered BIZBALL. Cheers JH

This week we took on Coomera, in a welcome home game for Lachy and James. We lost the toss again (I stopped counting the toss record because it's all one sided) so we were in the field. Dale opened the bowling for a short spell with Coyney at the other end. It was Coyney (3/34) who took the first 3 wickets of the game in a classic display that had the opposition rattled. Quaid probably bowled his most consistent spell of his career and was extremely unlucky not to claim a wicket. He is getting more comfortable in his first year of senior cricket and the rewards for effort are starting to shine. We had them 1/109 at drinks. I came on and bowled and was very unlucky not to claim a wicket through a questionable piece of umpiring. Darren (1/26) bowled the tightest spell and claimed a wicket in the process. Lachy bowled really tight and claimed a valuable wicket but unfortunately got a touch up in his final over to blow his figures out a bit, but he was sensational. Dale came back to finish his spell and claimed 2 really well deserved wickets, while MD aka the Mop took a great wicket in the final over to finish with figures of 1/9. I do have to mention that our fielding this week was the best it's ever been. We stopped balls we shouldn't have got to and held catches we had no right to take. The highlight in the field for me was out on the deep midwicket boundary, in which James was running faster than a greyhound chasing a rabbit at the track. Then, at full stretch, he launched himself and took catch of the year. He later admitted that he originally thought it was a flying beer heading his way and didn't want it to go to waste. We kept them to a gettable total of 8/238 on a tiny ground. Coyney and Heath Ledger opened the batting for us with the first 20 odd runs coming from boundaries. Then run rate then started to fall as the bowling got tighter. Coyney was first to go for 8. Heath batted very well with a better than run a ball 38 when he departed which brought Smudge and Dale to the crease. Smudge must have thought I said it's a test match instead of what I actually said, being "raise the run rate to 8 an over". He ended up making an unusually ugly 1 off 19 balls... We went to drinks 3/88 with a lot to do. Dale just continued doing Rachow things as he set about building our innings. He was our guiding light in the heavy storm of quality bowling. Lachy joined him ,got himself set and started to cash in with some quality straight drives reaching the boundary and a lap shot that left us stunned racing away also. Unfortunately he departed but not before he gathered a much needed 23. I came to the crease and was dropped first ball. I couldn't make them pay and left my favoute batting partner Dale to continue on with Aidan. He made a quick fired 16 as the wickets continued to fall around Dale who brought up his 50, with Darren also getting off to a flying start then departed for 19 off 14. Dale finally got caught for a superb 83. Troy, James and Quaid all gave it their all to try and chase down the runs. James even hit a monster 6 into the creek! We got agonisingly close but fell 3 runs short of the total. We didn't get the win, but there's so much to be proud about with how our side played this week. We all stood strong as a team and stepped up when required. You can't ask for more than that. Chippa

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 40’s Div 3

Over 40's Division 3,  RBCC 6/237 - Def  - Helensvale 8/235

The Bay Over 40's Div 3 side travelled to a stinking hot and fast Helensvale for their clash with Helensvale on Sunday.  Matt lost the toss and Helensvale elected to bat first.

Helensvale got off to a great start and lost their first wicket at 93 before eventually finishing up at 235 off their 40 overs.  Pick of the bowlers was Michael LEOW who bowled very well for his 1-37 off 7.  Other bowlers to get wickets included Jason Hay 1-37 off 7, Greg Bird 2-47 off 7, Alan Smith 2-23 off 4 and Bob Menzies 2-44 off 7.  Colin Wakefield bowled the last over of the innings and was told by the Helensvale batsmen that he was too slow.   Helensvale ended up at 235 off their 40 overs which was a more than competitive total and it would be a challenge to chase down.  The heat and humidity was now at increasing rapidly after a small rain shower had the heat coming up from the ground.

After lunch the Bay set about the chase with Gary Copeland 19 off 21 and Sean Sandford 49 off 55 setting up a good foundation followed by an explosive Greg Bird 50 retired from 41 balls.  Colin and Jason came and went followed by Murray Peirce before Bob Menzies 53* off 47 and Lee Greenwood 14 off 21 almost got us to the total prior to Lee getting out.  Arran Canning then came out to watch the winning runs hit by Bob who by then was ready for a cold drink and was looking like he had already had a shower prior to the game finishing.

Our thanks to the players that filled in and also best wishes to both Greg and Sean who are scheduled for knee operations this week.  All in all a good day played against a good opposition.
