Runaway Bay Cricket Club Proudly Appoints Gareth Roberts as Senior Head Coach
"From Cricket Blast to First Grade."

The Runaway Bay Cricket Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Gareth Roberts as the club's new Senior Head Coach for the 2026/27 season.
Some coaching appointments are made because of experience. Others because of results.
This appointment is about something even more important—it is about culture, commitment and family.
There are very few people who know Runaway Bay Cricket Club as well as Gareth Roberts.
For many years, Gareth has quietly dedicated himself to developing players at every stage of their cricket journey. He has introduced hundreds of children to the game through Milo Cricket (now Woolworths Cricket Blast), coached every junior age group, helped build our girls' cricket program, and last season led our women's program as Head Coach.
His impact has also been felt throughout our senior ranks, serving as Senior Assistant Coach under Suranga Lakmal, where his work ethic, attention to detail and genuine care for players played an important role in the club's outstanding 2025/26 season.
Away from the Bay, Gareth has established himself as one of the Gold Coast's most respected development coaches. He has spent the past eight years coaching within the Cricket Gold Coast Junior Representative Program and has also served as Assistant Coach of the Gold Dolphins Women's Team.
Throughout his coaching journey, Gareth has worked with representative teams, academies and talented players from across the region, helping countless cricketers reach the next level.
Yet despite all of those opportunities, one thing has never changed.
Runaway Bay Cricket Club has always been home.
As a proud Life Member, Gareth has given countless hours to the club—not for recognition, but because he genuinely believes in what the Bay represents. He has lived the club's values, celebrated its successes, worked through its challenges and helped shape the culture that exists today.
As the club continues its exciting journey following an historic 2025/26 season, the Board wanted a coach who not only possesses outstanding coaching credentials but also understands the importance of developing people alongside players.
Someone who believes in the club's H.E.A.R.T. values of Humility, Enjoyment, Attitude, Respect and Teamwork.
Someone who will continue building a culture where players of all ages can thrive.
That person is Gareth Roberts.
His appointment represents continuity, stability and an exciting future for the Bay as we continue investing in our players, our people and our club.
Everyone at Runaway Bay Cricket Club congratulates Gareth on his appointment and looks forward to seeing him lead our senior program into an exciting new era.

"When we began rebuilding our club, we spoke about creating something much bigger than winning cricket games. We wanted to build a culture where people genuinely wanted to belong, where our H.E.A.R.T. values weren't just words on a wall but were lived every day.
Gareth Roberts has been a huge part of that journey. He's coached our youngest Blasters, our juniors, our girls, our women, and our senior players. He has invested countless hours into developing people, often without seeking any recognition.
The thing I admire most about Gareth is that he genuinely cares. He cares about our players, our families, our volunteers and our club. He's earned the respect of everyone because of the way he goes about his coaching and the standards he sets.
Gareth isn't just joining the Bay—he is the Bay. He's one of our own, a proud Life Member and a true Seagull. We couldn't be happier to have him leading our senior program as we continue building an environment where players can achieve success while enjoying their cricket.
