The Captains Word
After a gruelling pre-season under new player/coach Suranga Lakmal, we arrive at the first day of the 2025/26 season quite ambitious following some exciting new recruits, a new mindset and a magpie ready to chomp the ear off anyone that comes within a 100m radius of the carpark!
A twenty20 double header starts us off with games against Broadbeach & Coomera. Unfortunately results didn’t go our way in either game. A close one against Broadbeach in the first game sees us beaten by a handful of runs and second game we were always up against it chasing a big total after watching one of the best hundreds we have seen by an opposition player at Sam Loxton Oval.
A big crowd was down to see our new recruits in action with some inspirational performances from Monib & Abinash and we got to see our former Sri Lankan opening bowler in action for the first time.
Day 1 is not going to define our season. The boys are working hard to gel and get to know each others games and we will be much better for the run.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
Season Launch at The Bay – T20 Showdown This Saturday!
Cricket is back at Runaway Bay, and we’re kicking off the 2025/26 season in style!
This Saturday at 2pm, Suranga and Darren’s T20 squad will take on the strong Mudgeeraba side at our very own Sam Loxton Aussielec Oval. This isn’t just another match – it’s The Bay’s season launch, and we want to see the hill packed with supporters from every corner of our club. Whether you’re from the Juniors, Women’s, Veterans, or Seniors, this is the perfect chance to come together, cheer on our boys, and launch into what promises to be a massive season for The Bay. Expect electric cricket, great food, icy cold drinks, and plenty of community spirit. It’s the ultimate way to welcome new members, catch up with old friends, and show the strength of our Bay family.
