First Grade

The 1st team travelled to Mudgeeraba after two really good wins to start the season the boys were pumped, started off with Jake loosing the toss and being asked to bowl first, abinash(6.5 overs 2/35) an suranga(5 overs 1/17) took the new ball an started well but the was quite an even contest between bat an ball with the scores being 2/53, then Freddie Fowler(6 overs 3/20) came on an took 2 quick wickets to get us right back on top mudgy batted well in the middle with siede an skipper gibbons putting on 87 for the 5th wicket, Ted gossett ( 9 overs 1/46) an Harry Sullivan (9 overs 2/27 had a great bowling partnership with Tedd picking up the key wicket of Seide an Harry keeping it tight at the other end allowed the boys to get right back into the contest, abinash came back on late an done a great job of cleaning up the tail with the pick of the blowers being Harry Sullivan in his first game in the 1st for the season! Wasn’t a lot to talk about with the batting innings as it was cut short with a storm rolling in an unfortunately weren’t able to get back on we ended the day on 2/28 off 7 overs but all in all another great day an plenty to take from it hopefully can keep the momentum going into next week against palm beach at home!

2nd Grade

Round 3 of the Season had the Bay 2s fixed to take on Mudgee, at the Gold Coast's home of cricket, Loxton Oval.  With the BOM predicting a small but intense cell to sweep across the region sometime in the afternoon, we had  a fair idea that rain would play a part in the day's result. Winning the toss I gleefully declared to opposition skipper (and the Bay 2s Freddie Kreuger), Harry Maher 'We'll have a bat thanks'.

Brendo and Connor opened up our innings by hitting 12 from the very first over of the match, thanks to a couple of blistering 4s from Brendo. Sadly the celebrations didn't last too long.  With Brendo snicking off a and Connor missing a straight one, we slumped to 2/14. Timmy Murdoch and Tom Gosset paired for a crucial 83 run partnership that was characterised by quick running and perfect shot placement, before Timmy fell for a classy 40(67). Tommy was gifted a free hit on 49* which he duly dispatched for 6 to bring up consecutive 50s in as many weeks. "Is this going to be the week Tommy goes big?" the gallery wondered to itself. No. It wasn't. After belting the free hit, Tom then missed the next one and was given out LBW for 55(65). Well batted Tom! Austin Billing looked great for his 12(15), before he was out which left it up to Nathan Proctor 22(38), Harker 27 (25) and Cam 14(11) to close out the innings. Notable mentions to both Cam and Nathan who hit their first ever 6s at Loxton Oval as part of our rear-guard action. With an over's-worth of penalty runs applied we finished up our 40 overs with a score of 209 and a real shot at taking the points should we find the early breakthroughs.

With the likes of D. Greene and T. Harker in the side and H. Maher opening the innings, one may have been forgiven for thinking that the youngsters Stevie and Jake, should take a back seat for the first 10 overs.  We however stuck to the plan and Stevie did as Stevie does, week in, week out bashing away at his line and length while Jake took the second over from the southern end. A rank, wide ball outside off stump (which I had expected to land in Bec's Kitchen) was dragged back onto the stumps of H. Maher courtesy of Jake Shultz and we were away (1/21). Stevie clearly took issue with being upstaged by his juniors compatriot and struck the following over (2/24). With Jake Shultz leaving the field due to injury, Tom Gosset took the ball from the southern end as we pushed to get through to the required 20 over mark to constitute a game. As the clouds closed in and lightning began to strike in the distance, Tom 'Burgler'-Gossett started to really apply the pressure as he claimed an outstanding 3/4 from 4 overs. With the score at 5/39 and what looked like an almost certain victory on the cards, the lightning increased and the umpires dutifully escorted us off the field owing to safety concerns. Despite the sun peaking through the clouds a few times we were probably never really a shout to get back on and complete the 9 more overs required to push for a Duckworth Lewis calculated victory. As such, at 16:55 the umpire advised that we would not be returning to the field and we'd have to share the points.

A rain-affected draw was a bitter end to an otherwise strong performance this week boys. We really nailed the two priorities of, respecting the opposition and staying calm and collected in the field. We can take great pride in the way we played this one and just think - it hasn't all clicked just yet boys! I cannot wait for the day it does and I don't think that day is too far off.

On to round 4 as we take the bay H.E.A.R.T to Palmy on their home turf.

3rd Grade V Loganholme

We travelled out to Loganholme on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised, ground and outfield were lovely,

We unfortunately lost the toss and were sent in to bowl on a super-hot day,

We opened with George Edney and Josh Hoare, George got his first wicket on the 4th ball with perfect line and length to pick up there skipper caught behind by a super star in the making young James Serling,

Sterlo was back in flashing lights 2 balls later for a superb runout with gusys great energy throwing the ball wide of Sterlo and how he picked it up and got the runout know one knows but excellent 2 wickets in the first over

From there the build small partnerships but we stuck in there and fought hard bowling our 40 overs 7-216 a score we thought we could chase.

We opened up with young 15-year-old Taika Hoare he was looking great and Hamza, Hamza once again got a shocker and was given LBW off his first ball but you have a bat in this wonderful game of ours so it must be used,

This bought Bartlet to the crease, unfortunately he didn’t trouble the scorers to much as the thunder and lightning was approaching Gus joined Taika, Gussy starting off well again as the match was called off due the massive storm that came over Taika 17* and Gussy 9*

Members Draw

Jack Holmes, wherever you are – we've got some news for you!

Our Saturday Members Draw has struck again, and unfortunately for Jack Holmes, he wasn't around to collect his winnings! While Jack was probably enjoying a well-deserved Saturday evening elsewhere, his name echoed through the clubhouse at 6:30 PM to the sound of... well, silence.

Thanks to Jack's absence, our jackpot has climbed to a mouth-watering $400 for this Saturday's draw – that's serious beer money, folks!

How It Works

Every Saturday after the senior match reports wrap up (around 6:30 PM), we draw a member's name from our club barrel. Here's the catch – you MUST be present at the clubhouse to claim your prize. No exceptions, no rain checks, no "I was just in the car park" excuses!

Each week our winner doesn't show, the jackpot grows by $100. That means someone could walk away $400 richer this Saturday simply by sticking around for post-match celebrations.

Don't Be the Next Jack Holmes!

Make sure you're at the clubhouse this Saturday evening. Grab a drink, enjoy the match reports, catch up with mates, and you might just go home with bulging pockets.

Remember: 6:30 PM sharp – BE THERE TO WIN!

4th Grade Orange

Match Report Rd 3
4th grade orange vs Palm Beach
This week we played another away game this time at Mallawa Sports Complex south ground in Palm Beach.
After losing our first Toss for the year we were sent into bat,
We got off to a quick start, anchored by opener Jamie Lennox (19 off 22). However, our progress was soon checked by the exceptional bowling of Palm Beach medium pacer Malak Singh. Singh proved to be a major obstacle taking 4 for 19 runs off his six overs, including the crucial wickets of Andrew Foenander (10), Joshua Foenander (33), Stephen Wolf (5), and Colin Wakefield (1).

The innings was ultimately saved and propelled by a sensational partnership between Chris Castle and Nathan Foenander. Castle was particularly destructive, smashing a brilliant 84 off 62 balls, featuring 11 fours and 3 huge sixes. Supported by Nathan Foenander's run-a-ball 30 (29 balls), we got past the 200 mark for the first time this year. Late contribution from Jack Castle (27* off 33) ensured a solid total, as Runaway Bay finished their 40 overs on 7 wickets for 217.
Having what we thought was a decent score on the board we took to the field feeling confident if we bowled and fielded well we would get the result,
Chasing 218 for victory, the Palm Beach innings was brief and dramatic. Palm Beach managed to get 35 runs on the board in 8.2 overs, largely weathering the early spells from Will Secombe and William Altass.
However, the game came to an abrupt halt following a controversial dismissal when Casey Cooper was given out for 18 (25 balls), becoming the sole wicket to fall, for "handling the ball".
But with the weather conditions deteriorating dramatically with Lightning and rain hitting the ground it ultimately forced the players from the field.

With the score standing at 1 for 35 and no immediate let-up in the lightning activity, the match was officially abandoned and declared a draw, a disappointing conclusion for both sides.
Next up is a trip to Bruce small to take on Surfers hope to see everyone there Go Bay!!!

Runaway Bay Orange limited by time after the hosts amassed a big total

The visitors reached 1/62 in reply to a substantial 6/251 before the contest was abandoned

Alberton Community Div 3 6/251 vs Runaway Bay Orange Community Div 3 1/62

Runaway Bay Orange arrived at the crease with a clear task, but time curtailed any real chance of recovery as the hosts had already compiled a substantial first-innings total of 6/251. The visitors reached 1/62 when play was called off, the early score reflecting an innings that started with steadiness but never had the opportunity to grow into a full chase. The early phases showed Runaway Bay Orange attempting to establish a measured response rather than immediately forcing the tempo. That approach was interrupted by the match ending, so the side’s ability to construct the long partnerships needed against such a large first-innings total remains untested. Fielding standards earlier in the match had seen catches taken by the hosts, but Runaway Bay’s early response suggested an intent to preserve wickets and build. Though the result was decided by the weather, Runaway Bay Orange can take positives from the composure shown at the top of the order and the conservative strategy to rebuild rather than gamble. When fixtures resume, converting that early stability into extended partnerships will be essential if the side is to challenge large totals.

Runaway Bay Orange 1/62 when play was abandoned; hosts had reached 6/251 earlier. The visitors adopted a measured top-order response but were denied the chance to build.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
