Seniors 6 & 7/12/2025

First Grade

This weekend we turned up to Sam Loxton one again and playing on a lovely pitch and the conditions where perfect. Having watched the youngsters bat really well on it in the morning we knew it was going to be a tough day in the heat.

I lost the toss again and we were no first on a dry hard pitch. Mo and Suranga managed to take some early wickets even though the pitch wasn’t offering much for the seamers. Mo bowled with good pace and Suranga with seam movement and amazing control showed his class. Suranga 5 overs -1-13. Mo finished with 1-28 off his 6. I followed Suranga from his end and managed to sneak 2 wickets away so we had them 4 down before we brought our spin twins on. Ted bowled exceptionally well again with 2 spells taking 2 wickets for 30 and I believe that has moved him into top 5 for wicket takers in the League. A really good start for the younger Gossett who is due a big handful of wickets shortly. Jayden bowled his 9 and looked as consistent as he normally does with taking another 2 wickets. We ended up restricting them to 171 of there overs which was definitely under par.

We went out to bat and the pitch was still nice to bar on but was offering a little more. There were some lovely shots from the top order but no one went on to make a big score which left the middle order with a bit to do. Roberto and Corey had an excellent partnership showing some serious grit and determination to get us back into the fight. Some lovely stroke play by both the players. Unfortunately both where dismissed quickly with there player taking an amazing catch to leave us 122-7. Me and Creedy chalked away at there score and got to 155 before Creedy was dismissed. We lost the next 2 wickets quickly and that left us 158 all out.

We go again next week and will bounce back.

2nd Grade

Hot and blustery conditions confronted the Bay 2s (not the Magoos), upon arrival at Burleigh’s home ground for match 10 of the season. Despite a crumbly-looking pitch, word was that a couple of the juniors were getting the ball to carry through nicely in the morning. That information coupled with what looked to be a lightning outfield indicated that batting first would be the go. After winning the coin toss and with a departure from rational thought, I confidently declared that ‘we’ll bowl’ to the opposing skipper and umpire.

The strong northerly which as a result of the NW to southeast orientated pitch at Liberty Finance Oval, blew as a cross-breeze and was set to aid Stevie’s in-swing to the right handers while also favouring George’s out swing. After a week of politely tolerating a barrage of sage-like advice from multiple sources following his battering at Alberton, Steve had a couple more deliveries up his sleeve as he opened proceedings from the north-western end. George partnered Steve from the southeastern end but was hampered by the gale which blew slightly against the angle of his run-up. In just his second over, Stevie hurled down a delivery that went away from former Bay 1st grader Josh Cox, taking the outside edge (1 for 8). Following a few near misses, Cam Davies replaced the luckless George (0 for 25 from 4), from the southeastern end and supported Stevie by pushing up-wind. One big over dented the otherwise very tidy performance from everyone’s favourite educator, as Cam returned outstanding figures of 3 for 48 from 8. Stevie ‘Weekly’ Watson re-announced himself this week as one of the competitions most dangerous opening bowlers and finished his spell with 1 for 23 from 8. Noting that Steve went for 23 from just two overs in his previous performance, this was a massive effort and a valiant turnaround. Burleigh went into the drinks break at 3 for 82 and while the runs weren’t quite flowing, the lack of wickets was cause for concern. Ben Canning (1 for 36 from 8) had replaced Stevie at the northwestern end and was nigh-on unplayable. Ben’s pace and bounce really was much too good for most 2nd graders to snick, as he drew a minimum of 4 plays and misses each over. Travis (1 for 36 from 7) locked in from the southeastern end and took a little tap as the Burleigh batters used the favourable gust to launch him down the ground. The end of Ben Canning’s spell brought about the introduction of Jawid to clean up the tail and of course he duly obliged, returning figures of 4 for 18 from 3.5 overs. A sloppy performance in the field with several dropped catches and perhaps 15 to 20 free runs, saw Burleigh scramble their way to 186, thanks mostly to their skipper who belted 98 from 100 balls. Notable mention to Stirlo who took the gloves this week and was exceptional behind the pegs, taking 5 dismissals including a stumping off a ball pitching 3 feet outside off stump from the bowling of Jawid.

With Timmy Murdoch getting into a mid-week bar fight which he attempted to cover up with a fanciful story about an e-scooter crash, we had a gap to be filled at the top of the order. Too afraid, old, slow, lethargic, unwilling (and perhaps probably 6-8 other adjectives that come to mind) to take due responsibility myself, I decided that after bowling 8 overs straight, Ben Canning would be best to have a crack up the top of the order. In return for his willingness and unwavering faith to the cause, Ben started his innings sustaining a blow to the groin which had him down on all fours for several moments. “Better him than me”, I thought to myself. Stirlo, 1 from 3 at the other end snicked off early and when Benny too was dismissed 8 from 16, we were flailing at 2 for 11. Jack Hocart and Austin Billing looked to right the ship for a period as the two put on a very casual 27 runs before Hocey 13 from 27 was dismissed by a cracking delivery from Burleigh’s first change bowler. I replaced Jack and together with Austin, we put on 22 before Austin 24 from 40, chipped one to cover. Sam Heathwood strode to the crease but when he was on his way back to the sheds shortly thereafter 3 from 7, the Bay 2s were in serious trouble at 5 for 69. “Jawid will fix this mess” I thought to myself as the serial destroyer and crusher of hopes marched to the crease to meet one of his favourite victims in that of the Burleigh attack. True to form and shortly after marking centre, Jawid hit 25 runs off what turned out to be a 29 run over and just like that, we were back ahead of the run rate. “Easy come, easy go”. With a full delivery from the returning opener, Jawid 26 from just 10 was clean bowled the next over and as Travis waddled to the crease I only had one thought on my mind ‘no more 2s’. All jokes aside, Travis, trustworthy and reliable as ever, fought courageously both before and after my dismissal for 44 from 65. Cam Davies replaced me and with the score at 147 with 7 overs to go, we were still in with a shot. A couple of flurries from Cam meant that we were right back on track before Travis fell for 15 from 37. Despite his best-efforts Cam fell to a good ball in the same over for a run-a-ball 13 and when George was bowled the next over 1 from 7, it was done and dusted. The Bay 2s had lost for the first time in 2 months.

This one stings a little bit fellas. Burleigh are far from a poor side, but I can’t help feeling like we lost this one rather than being beaten. With an opportunity to extend our lead at the top of the table, we lacked the ruthlessness that the best teams display in these circumstances. Our fielding was sub-par this week and looking at the scores I reckon we gifted the opposition just about as many runs as we lost by. The positive to take away from this one is knowing that we have the ability to improve in some pretty obvious areas. Next week we take on Coomera on our home turf which is our opportunity to prove that this defeat only made us hungrier for success.

Patrick.

3rd Grade

RBCC V Coomera 3rd grade On another beautiful Saturday we again had the pleasure of playing on loxton 2 we lost the toss and were told by the coomera captain to have a bowl to the dislike of some of our hurting seniors that had a Large night at the gabba. We started off the bowling with Mitch Bailey who bowled extremely well against the opening batsman and so to did josh Hoare from the other end, Mitch getting the handy scalp of ex bay player Macca Turner for not many and the Father son combo of hoares coming together with an excellent catch in the gully from taika to get his dad his first wicket of the game, Next in came young guns Jake Shultz and Will Altass these boys showed maturity beyond there age bowling well against a seasoned Coomera team, Hamza and Austin were the next bowlers and Hamza changed something this game and turned up on time which was a shock in itself, Hamza bowled well taking a handy wicket while Austin bowled tight, we bought back on the opening bowlers to try and take a wicket and that we did Josh taking 3 and Mitch 2, Jake came back into the wind to his first wicket of the match and like that we bowled our 40 they were 9-195 a score I thought was going to be hard to chase considering our depleted batting line up We opened the batting with Brendo and Josh, Brendo got out to a great yorker in the 3rd over which bought in Gussy, Gussy looked good until he got bowled for 11 This brought in the crowd favourite Hamza, Hamza not mucking around got a 10 off10 before he was gunned by yet another poor LBW decision but not to worry we had Chris Bartlett to come in, Chris Strutting out with his Hat backwards under his helmet full of confidence looked great from the start Chris and Josh batted superbly with a 40 run partnership before Josh fell for a handy 39 This bought out Taika who was run out in a mix up with Bartlett for 1 Raffles was next in adding 6 to the tally at this stage we were 6-137 needing what felt like a lot of runs. Will Altass came to the crease next beaming with confidence with his 64 in juniors that morning was stumped for 6 things looking tight at this point Mitch Bailey joining Bartlett Both lads batting really well with Mitch hitting a 10 not out including 2 4s and Bartlett carrying his bat for massive 84 not out including 11 fours and 1 six for us to chase down Coomeras total with 2 overs to go, This was so good for a team that had 3 guys under 17 showing each of us all how much we wanted to win this was a great chase Man of the Match Chris Bartlett

Friday Nights Meat Tray Winner Brian

4th Grade Orange

Rd 10 4s Orange vs bonogin

This week we finally were back playing at our home Loxton 3,

We were playing Bonogin who are on top of the ladder so we knew it was going to be a tough game on a very warm day, unavailabilities made the task even tougher with us only have 10 players thankfully Nic Lennix stepped up to help us out,

We started by losing the toss & being put into the field,

Josh opened the bowling and immediately had an impact by bowling their captain 2nd ball,

great start 1/4 after 1 over should of turned into 2 fa when Jamie got the other opener to hit one straight up in the air to mid off but unfortunately wolfy who has been a fantastic catcher this year put down a rare one, unfortunately this started a trend that plagued us all innings with us putting down a lot of catches that proved extremely costly to us, especially early in the innings, the efforts of our bowlers wasn’t being put on the scoreboard,

At the 20 over mark Bonogin were 3/109,

We thought if we can start hanging onto our catches we could keep them below 200 to a score we could chase but unfortunately our fielding form continued & on a fast ground like Loxton 3 you pay for your mistakes, the boys fought hard and did fight back getting late wickets to keep them to a score we thought if we batted well we could still chase,

8/239 was our target,

The wickets were shared around by the bowlers, Noah McQueen 2/28 the only multiple wicket taker,

Andy F 1/17 (2)   Josh F 1/21, (4)

James M 1/22 (3) Kane T 1/23 (4)

Wolfy 1/42 (6)    Jamie L 1/48 (6)

Will S 0/21 (4)    Nate F 0/13  (2)

9 bowlers used showing we did try a few things with little luck, Nic did a fantastic job in the field with the batters unwilling to take her on from the boundary,

with a big task at hand we opened with a couple of our experienced heads Andy & Jamie hoping for a solid start, unfortunately that didn’t play out as we lost Andy(8) 1for 8 and then Jamie(0) at 27, a partnership between the Foenander bros started and we were confident that if the boys got going it would get us along way towards the target, Unfortunately just as they were starting to blossom they took on the field for a 2nd run & a direct hit found Josh (30) short a devastating blow considering his recent form. Wolfy(1) came and went, followed be James(8) we were in some trouble at 5/64 when Kane joined Nate in the middle and the pair combined for what was our best partnership (56) but again taking on the field proved costly another direct hit, this time it was Kane who perished for our top score of 38, 6/120 and we were in a lot of trouble, Nate (25) was bowled shortly after followed by Col(10) dragging one on, then Will (1) leaving Nic to come out and save the day, she confidently pushed the first ball to point, but the ball the young bowler decided to push off the fence  bowling a fast full ball which unfortunately Nic couldn’t handle, an unfortunate end as we were bowled out for 137.

With our bye next week we will rest up our tired and in some cases old bodies and be back in a couple of weeks, see u all then GO BAY!!

Runaway Bay Community Div 2 vs Helensvale Green – Match Report Runaway Bay Community Div 2 faced a strong Helensvale Green outfit at Sam Loxton 4, with Helensvale winning the toss and choosing to bat first on a good surface. Helensvale Green posted a commanding 7–223 from 36 overs, built around a standout innings from Leigh Axford, who was heartbreakingly dismissed for 99 off 96 balls after a dominant knock featuring 16 fours. He was well supported by Grant Loxton (47) and Mathew Fraser (27 retired not out), keeping the scoreboard ticking along consistently. With the ball, Brad Adkins was the pick of the Runaway Bay attack with an excellent 3 wickets, while Michael Schumacher contributed strongly with 2 wickets and Duane Jongeling claimed 1, showing great control and effort against a powerful batting line-up. Chasing 224 for victory, Runaway Bay fought hard but were bowled out for 72. Brad Adkins (18) and Gregory Ryan (14) showed resistance in difficult conditions, while Kelly Schultz finished 5 not out*, battling right through to the end. Despite the tough result, the boys showed strong character, kept the energy high in the field, and never stopped competing — a real credit to the team spirit. ⸻ Special Thanks A massive thank you to Kirsten Schultz, Kelly Schultz, and Hudson Schultz for filling in on the day — your support, commitment, and willingness to help the club out does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated

6th Grade

This week we played Surfers 6 grade blue Surfers won the toss and elected to bat. Our opening bowler's Rory and Quaid started strong with Quaid claiming the opener with a sharp catch in the slips by Aidan. Wicket continued to fall with Chris getting a sharp run out. The Wicket slowed and the batters started to build a partnership until Chris hit the stumps with a beautiful dilivery. Which followed on with Shana getting an amazing catch in the slips off the bowling of MD. Wicket continued fall by MD with a bowled and a run out. And Chris got another caught and bowled to end out the innings. With Surfers putting a very gettable total of 8/162. We went in to bat with Coyney and Murray getting us off to a good start. We lost Coyney LBW for 34 and Murray went onto make 26 a steady flow of wickets followed with the skipper Chris provided the only resistance with 29 Runaway ended up bowled out in the 26 over for 125. Unfortunately didn't get the win this week. Quaid

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 50’s Orange

RBCC O/50's Orange 5/219 Def Broadbeach 8/201

The Bay travelled to Broadbeach for the clash against the hosts Broadbeach who are currently well placed on the table.  The Captain Matthew Cunningham nursing a broken body managed to win the toss and elected to bay relegating himself to bat 12 all be it we only had 11 players.  Lee Greenwood and Jim Phillips opened the batting before a run out saw Lee depart.   Travis Harker entered the fray fresh from batting 12 the week before at which time he and Jim had a very good partnership with Travis (50 off 58) and Jim (53 off 74) batting for a period of time prior to their retirements.   Jason Hay also made (50 off 43) with a number of smaller contributions along the way seeing us make 5/219 off our 40 overs.

After a good lunch we set about defending with early wickets to Travis (2-26 off 7) and Terry Blacktop (1-37 off 7).  There were a number of decent partnerships and moving into the last 15 overs the game was in the balance.  Some tight bowling from Michael Kennedy (1-23 off 6) and Bob (The finisher) Menzies (2-29 off 6) saw us close out the innings with Broadbeach 18 runs short.

The game finished and upon entry to the changeroom Col received a dressing down from his partner in life for an earlier bout memory loss which actually lead to his late arrival to the game.

Over 50’s Navy

50’s Navy

We got off to a great starr winning the Toss and electing to Bat. Down to 10 with Aaran having back pains we opened with the lads from Ipswich who were crusing along but with one comes two wickets and then 3 and before we knew it we were struggling a little. Sandford to the crease and 13 off the first over face and we were back on track. Unfortunately when caught off a one hander 2inches off the pitch the wickets kept falling and bundled out for 128. Shot of the day was Brian Olsen through covers to the longest boundary for 4, striaght out of the Travis Head play book. Only defending a small total we got off to a reasonable start with Muzza clean bowling their opener in the 3rd over but they recovered quickly and were crusing until an inspirational captains decision to bring on Robson who immediately took a wicket then 2 and on a hatrick but not to be.

Geoff McQueen then came on from the other end with immediate success and the lads from Burleigh looked nervious. If only we had managed even another 30runs it could have been very interesting. All i can say is that everyone gave 100% and enjoyed the game. Looking forward to the next game.

Women’s Pink Diamonds

Pink Diamonds – Final Match Report of 2025!

What a finale! For our last outing of the year, the Pink Diamonds hit the field with grit, sparkle and plenty of Christmas spirit. Even though we lost the toss and were sent in to field, we were switched on from ball one, producing one of our tidiest performances yet.

FIELDING & BOWLING The opposition came armed with a couple of big hitters — one sending boundaries to every patch of grass she could find — but our bowlers held strong and kept their cool. Bowling Figures:

• Jade – 0/8 (1) while also stepping in as keeper to help Kelly. Superstar effort!

• Tracy – 0/9 (2) disciplined and consistent as always.

• Sonia – 0/11 (2) plus nearly taking a blinder of a catch at the risk of a potentially broken finger. Her grit and a strong batting innings earned her the opposition’s Women of the Match. Legend.

• Emily – 0/13 (3) another polished spell from one of our most reliable bowlers.

• Kelly – 0/14 (2) after starting in keeper then shifting out to the field.

• Faith – 0/15 (2) making a return from injury and slotting back in seamlessly.

• Kirsten – 0/18 (3) tight lines and great pressure.

• Gaylene – 0/19 (2) steady as always.

• Lori – 1/28 (3) taking our only wicket — and her first ever wicket! Her first two overs were rock solid before she faced the opposition’s big-hitting superstar, but she held her nerve and had a fantastic day out. We are all so proud of her progress as a first-time player.

WOMEN OF THE MATCH A huge congratulations to our two incredible award recipients this week:

• Lori – for her first ever wicket and another PB with the bat!

• Kelly – for an outstanding all-round performance: keeping, fielding, bowling and an unforgettable batting display.

A massive thank you to Jade for filling in for us. Huge appreciation as well to Brad, Hugo, Hudson and Santa for scoring and umpiring. And of course, to our wonderful cheer squad — we absolutely love playing, and it’s even better with our Bay family cheering from the sidelines. This wraps up our 2025 games. We gave it a cracking effort, and we know we’ll be back better, stronger and ready to kick butt in 2026 after a well-deserved break. Merry Christmas everyone!

Women Navy Sapphires

For our last game for 2025 we wandered down the highway to a very hot and humid Bonogin oval. It felt like it was 50 degrees in the shade, not a breath of air to be had. Bonogin won the toss and elected to bat. They came out all guns blazing running on every shot and finding the boundary every so often. There was no panic on our end we just needed to stick with our game plan and persist. After a few dubious decisions with runs and wickets, I’m not sure the other coach got the memo it is social cricket the wickets started falling. Shana picked up 3 wickets, Ruby chipped in, Georgia was incredibly economic and G as usual snagged a few. Nic then came on to bedazzle the opposition with her spin and managed to take a hat trick thanks to some nifty wicket keeping by Cath to help with a couple of stumpings, it was 3 cheers to Nic!!! We managed to keep them to under 180 and took an impressive 10 wickets all up.

With the day not getting any cooler the batting conditions were also very hot. So hot that poor Nic wilted under the harsh sun and had to retire from her opening duties. With Shana holding steady Ruby, Amber, Evelyn ambled along to keep the scoreboard ticking. Enter the might of G !!! It was too hot to run so G fixed that by hitting boundaries and multiple 6’s to hit a magnificent 64 off only 15 deliveries. The opposition were in awe and had no answers as the ball kept sailing over their heads over the boundary. Well done to an awesome innings of just power hitting. Cath and Georgia then finished it off by keeping the runs flowing. Well done to Nic to recover and come back on for her final few deliveries. Another solid team effort from the Navy girls who didn’t get flustered we just dug deep and got another win on the board. Hope everyone enjoys a relaxing break over Christmas!!
