First Grade

The 1st grade where away to Surfers this weekend. A verry important top of the table clash with 2 very strong sides. We lost the toss and were sent into bat on a nice pitch. Yas and Talha have been a very strong opening partnership for us all year and they started well again. A fall of a wicket bought Jaydn to the Crease with Talha who batted nicely for a while. A few good partnerships and we were 3-102. Talha and Jake at the crease was a very productive time for us as Talha Ended on 64 and Jake on 70. Both Talha and Jake hit some very lovely classy shots mixed in with some big sixes. With a nice platform built the tail wagged leaving us with a score of 259 which we thought we could defend.

We took to the field and Corey opened the bowling well. He should have had a wicket in his first ball but was dropped. He bumped out the opening batsmen but had to come off with a sore back. Mo struck at the other end leaving them 19-2. Honeybrook batted very well with Dinneen which saw them put on a 156 run partnership. After the drinks break we were very aggressive as we knew we had to take a wicket. Ted got the break through for us and then we knew we had to apply pressure to the new batsmen. Ted, Mo, Yas, and Denly all bowled exceptionally leaving 18 off 3 which put it in the balance after Surfers seemed to have the game wrapped up.

There were 3 wickets in 6 balls leaving surfers needing 3 wickets to win off the last ball where there was another wicket. Runaway bay won by 2 runs. Man of the Match went to Jake Wynd for an excellent knock. This leaves us 9 points clear at the top.

2nd Grade

A clear week of weather had Loxton 1 looking an absolute picture as the Bay 2s arrived at our home ground to take on Surfers in Round 8 of the competition. We were greeted by green deck that was characterised by patches of thatch grass that featured at both ends on a good length. With no junior's match preceding our fixture, there was every chance that the ball might do a bit early, so after winning the toss I gleefully announced 'We'll bowl first thanks'. You're welcome Col.

Ctrl C, Ctrl V <Stevie Watson takes the first wicket>. Apologies dear reader, but Stevie Weekly Watson's successes with the new pill are becoming increasingly difficult to describe in an engaging way. The crafty bugger just does it every bloody week! I guess this week's opening wicket was slightly different from previous performances given that Stevie struck with the very first ball of the match! A ball moving away from the left hander caught the outside edge and despite his best efforts to drop it, Travis managed to hold onto it at first slip. "C'mon Steve, give the opposition a chance wont you?". 1/0 turned into 2/6 as Stevie snicked off yet another top order bat. At the other end George got into his work and after going for a few early boundaries picked up the key wicket of the Surfers No.4 who definitely smashed a sharp catch to wicketkeeper N.Proctor. George Edney (2 for 37) and Stevie Watson (3 for 33) both got through eight overs straight this week and by the end of their respective spells, the opposition were flailing at 5/62. Harker (3 for 12 from 8) replaced Stevie at the Northern end while Corey Hucker (0/33 from 8), took over from George at the southern end and the two began to apply the Bay Squeeze. With the score at 8/102 the time felt right for Jawid to work some magic with the ball. Sure enough, perhaps out of admiration for Stevie, Jawid took a wicket with his first delivery. Just five balls later Jawid decided to ruin another victim's day as he struck for a second time to finish with the tidy figures of 2/4 from 1 over. Special mention for Nathan Proctor who narrowly missed out on another 5fa with the gloves as he gobbled 4 more catches behind the wicket.

With Surfers dismissed inside 33 overs for just 122, the plan was clear - set a platform early and work our way into a position to push for bonus points. Despite looking good early on, Brendo was the first to depart after skewing one to backward point for just five runs. Jack Hocart replaced Brendo and he and Stirlo set about the resurrection, as the pair saw off the openers and began to force the issue against the first change bowlers. After surviving a few early chances due to drops in the slips cordon, Stirlo took full advantage of the opposing spinner and began to drive the ball beautifully through wide cover and mid-off.

Drinks came and went and it took a good piece of bowling from Surfer's own Curtis (Fiddy Cent) Jackson to dismiss James Sirling, agonisingly close to a maiden 50 for the club as he was dismissed for 49(70) whilst putting on a 99 run stand with Hocey. Well played Stirl-oh. With the target only 17 runs away, again the time felt right for the injection of Jawid. Sadly the experiment didn't workout this week  as Jawid was on his was for a duck from 2 deliveries. "At least he has an average now!". Selfishly I replaced Jawid, and while as always searching for glory, I snicked a few around and survived and LBW shout as Hocey steered us towards victory. After a yet another snick over the keeper's head, the opposition were free to go home early as the Bay 2s knocked off the meagre target of 123 in just 26.4 overs to seal yet another bonus point. Jack Hocart's classy 38*(53) and Stirlo's cool head meant that a total that small was never going to offer a real challenge to the Bay 2s this week.

This one was a workmanlike performance fellas, everyone contributed in some way, shape or form. Weather it was the positivity in the field, taking poles or scoring runs, this felt like a collective effort to me. With the bonus point allocation still to come, we should be top of the table. This is a huge accomplishment for both the Bay 2s and the club. With the top 3 grades all sitting pretty at the top of the ladder, I honestly cannot believe how far the club has come after the past few seasons. Great work fellas but the job's not done yet. Next week we take the fight to Alberton away from home in the cane fields.

3rd Grade

RBCC V Helensvale

The mighty 3rdGrade had the absolute privilege of playing at home on loxton 2, We won the toss and chose to have a bat, We changed things up this week and opened up with the father son combo of hoares Josh and Taika, Taika was unlucky coping a peach of a delivery being given out LBW on the 9th ball of the innings, This bought in Sam Heathwood, Sammy looked good for his 1 being caught by an absolute screamer in the slips, This introduced Gussy to the match, Gussy struggled to get off the mark for a while ended up caught out for 6,Bartlett was next but didn’t bother the scorers, We were 4/44 at this stage when Lucas Fraser came in and played some great shots getting the run rate back up there hitting 5 fours for his 32 off 23 deliveries, Hamza came in and got LBW off his bat which bought to the crease Big Mc Phee, Mitch as we all know wont die wondering and kept the strike rate going adding a handy 29 with 2 fours and a six Cam Davies next in got 10 off 15 with a big 6, Abdul was next with 10 off 20, josh Hoare batted till the 36th over a solid and important innings getting out on 76 Hitting 9 fours and 1 six We finished off with 9 down for 189 which I thought was about par but we had to bowl well to defend that score.

And if Josh hadn’t done enough he was asked to open the bowling, getting their opener, local police officer constable Grove Caught by his son Taika with a great catch in gully, Josh bowled 4 overs in that spell taking 2 big scalps, Cam Davies opened at the other end bowling well taking 2 important wickets. Jared Austin came on to replace Hoare he bowled tight having a few dropped catches which are always hard at the rapid pace he bowls even hitting our substitute keeper Bartlett in the helmet. Austin finished with figures of none for 13 off his 8, Abdul came on for Davies bowling 2 overs then to be replaced by Hamza, Hamza did what Hamza does and that’s arrive late and take wickets, He took 3 off his 8 overs Altass came on for Austin getting a wicket 1st ball with a dirty half tracker which was skied to our keeper and to the surprise of everyone caught it, Altass bowled 4 overs for his 1 wicket which bought Hoare back on to bowl his last 4 overs at this stage they were starting to get close to our total but hoare getting the wicket of there captain with a great catch from bartlett who celebrated like he had won the English premier league, with 1 wicket remaining Hoare got the run out of the last batsman paired with Bartlett for a great finish and a Win for us, Subsitute Keeper Bartlett ended up with 2 catches a stumping and took part in a runout Well done mate

4th Grade Orange

Rd 8 4s Orange vs Bond Uni

Round 8 found the Road warriors once again away from home & for the 3 rd time in 8 games down south in Palm Beach, Beach being very accurate description for the Mallawa North oval, as the only things missing were the sand shovels and beach towel’s,

With Col calling correctly we won the toss and chose to have a bat,

And for the first time this year we used a pair of openers for the 2nd time as Jamie Lennix and Noah McQueen strode to the wicket to get our innings underway,

Unfortunately the partnership didn’t last long with Noah(6) departing with score on 7 and Jamie(4) following shortly after to put us 2/12, that quickly turned into 3/30 then 4/38 as Toby Hudson(3) & Josh Foenander (14) joined the other boys under the trees,

Col joined Wolfy in the middle & began the rebuild putting on 39 with some good shots and good running between the wickets,

Bond Uni was a young fit team, quick in the field as well as bowling very tight, add in  hot and humid conditions making life very difficult for our batsmen,

Wolfy departed for a well made 16 with the score on 5/75, and needed some steady partnerships,

Nate Foenander came in and put on a quick 16 from 15 balls in a 43 run partnership with Col but again we lost a wicket with Nate falling to some good bowling, 6/118 next in to join Col was Kane Taylor new to the club & playing his 1st game for the bay but a premiership teammate of Col & Jamie from 10 yrs ago in Victoria, the boys quickly picked up from their old days setting about building a partnership to give us a score to defend, and that is exactly what they did putting together an unbroken 111 run partnership off 82 balls with Kane finishing on 42 no off 41 balls with 4 x 4s & 1 6 and Col top scoring with 94 no off 75 balls 7 x 4s & 5 x 6s

We finished with 6 for 229 off our 36 overs,

The challenge now was to bowl & field well and we would be able to get the result ,

Josh & Jamie opened the bowling with mixed results, Josh bowled 3 overs for 2 runs was just unplayable, Jamie on the other hand the batsman took some risks and got away with a few shots just landing over or near fielders which was frustrating and they got off to a fast start but Jamie hit back grabbing 2 quick wickets to have them 2 for 42 off 6 ovs, Toby Hudson replaced Josh & and bowled well taking the next wicket with a great catch being taken by Nate his 2nd for the day, but Toby wasnt finished there bowling an absolute peach 2 balls later that grabbed to edge of theirs captains bat and was caught by Col who was keeping today, 4 for 65 off 9 we needed to keep taking wickets and try and get the run scoring under control,

We rotated the bowlers every few overs to try get it down but some unorthodox shots allowed them to keep scoring, Noah 0/22, Ruddy 0/21, Andy F 0/16 all had a go but we  couldn’t break thru and 104 run partnership was eventually broken by wolfy 1/44 and with Kane bowling  some great offies at the other end we started to squeeze them a bit,

Kane 1/25 off 6 and wolfy ended their spells the situation was 6/207 off 31 overs, they needed 23 runs off 30 balls we needed 4 wickets, and Col threw the ball to Clarky 0/15 & Josh 0/10(5)coming back other end to finish the innings clarky’s second over very nearly got us the result when what appeared to be a massive edge to the keeper was given not out, unfortunately the batter went on to hit 3 crucial boundaries that got Bond over the line with 3 balls to spare, was a tough loss but with some regular personnel missing a great effort from the boys who fought it out right to the bitter end, big thank you to the boys who stepped up to help us out much appreciated,

We will pick ourselves up and on to next week where we play coomera at St Stephens school ground,

Go Bay !!!

Round 8 & we finally get to play at our real home ground, Loxton 3 our premiership paddock! Bizza won the toss again & we put our good friends Broadbeach in to bat. Grossy took the new ball & found the edge early only to have it disect 1st & 2nd slip, the result 4 runs which turned Grossy into grumpy Grossy & when he had a plumb LBW turned down, he turned into even grumpier Grossy!! He was to get his first wicket soon after, reducing them to 1/17. Schuey opened at the other end & soon had their best bat dismissed to a brilliant one handed diving catch at full stretch, horizontal to the ground at 1st slip. At last we got a smile from Grossy when his next appeal for LBW was given & when he bowled his next victim they had been reduced to 4/29. Broady then mounted a minor comeback before Craig the destroyer McGhie was introduced into the attack, taking the next 4 wickets, reducing them to 8/77. Young Jack Castle then took the next wicket in his first over, caught by his old man & when Fridge took the last wicket, Broady had been reduced to 101 all out. The wicket takers, Grossy 3/21, Schuey 1/30, Fridge 1/6, Jack 1/4 but the Schnit was back to his best with 4/6 off 6. The most amazing part of their innings wasn’t the brilliant bowling, catching or fielding but the 4 LBW’S they gave, unheard of in 5th grade or by Broady!! Our turn with the willow & the crowd was starting to gather at the home of cricket, led by none other than Broken Hill’s finest in Raymond Birrell who had made the 20 hour trek to see his son finally get a run, what a waste of time Ray!! We opened with Jamie & Critto & being the ultimate team man that he is, Jamie decided to get out early to give others a go. Critto was next to go, trying to play a shot he’d seen real cricketers do on telly but couldnt execute, bowled for 12. By this stage Brad & Bizza were trying to reserect the innings before Bizza went for an underwhelming 7 off 15, his only contribution was winning the toss again. Chris Castle came & went leaving us 4/61, still requiring 41 to win. Fridge came in & made light work of the deficit finishing with 31 not out off 21 with Brad the other not out batsman anchoring the innings finishing with 25, securing the victory in the 19th over. It was good to actually be able to walk to the club & celebrate a win with some light refreshments around the 5th grade table.

Cheers JH

This week, we travelled to Pincally Oval to take on Helensvale. I passed on coin toss duties to the eager Quaid, and he didn't let us down. Winning the coin toss and making a mockery of my toss skills in the process! We were batting first. With Helensvale starting with 8 players and a final 9th player a few overs later, we thought we could put on a huge score. Unfortunately, they bowled with extreme precision, and we were on the back foot from the start. Wickets were tumbling, and runs were hard to find. Luckily, Darren and Coyne dug deep and fought for a solid partnership, and in turn, the runs started to come. These guys had saved our bacon as we limped into drinks at 5/74. Darren went shortly after drinks, but his 31 was invaluable to the team. Coyne kept ticking the score along carrying an injury as Dale joined him. These talented old timers put the pressure back on the Hawks, forcing bowling errors and regularly putting the bad balls away as Dale surpassed 50. Coyne couldn't battle through his injury any longer with 2 overs to go and retired hurt on 42, as I joined Dale to close out the innings. Dale finished with a devastating 80, and with the blink of an eye, we finished 6/225. We had a plan to have a change in bowling early to try and upset the Hawks and not let them settle. Rory "The Swing King" Solomon opened, and like Mitchell Starc thundering in, in the first over of an Ashes test match, nicked off the opener and Sam pushed me out of the way in the slip cordon to take the catch and etch his name in folklore thanks to some magnificent swing bowling. Quaid opened with a short spell but unfortunately couldn't get the next breakthrough we wanted and was replaced by Haz, as the batters started to pile on runs. Things started to turn our way as Rory gathered all of the team together and threw us on his back and single handedly destroyed their top order, finishing his spell with figures of 4/21! Haz worked hard and finished his spell with a nice caught behind wicket. I came on for a short spell and claimed 2 wickets with Quaid starting his second spell at the other end. I'll give you a tip right now. The ability Quaid has to learn fast is unbelievable. He's really a special player and will go a long way in cricket. With a 30-second tutorial of in-swing bowling between overs, he put his newly acquired skill into practice. Time and time again, he swung that ball in past the bat, narrowly missing the clearly under varnished stumps. Finally, the batter was good enough to get some timber to the ball and nicked it through to the keeper to claim the Hawks 8th and final wicket. We had bowled them out for 94 in under 23 overs. I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but this team of misfits has banded together so well and has laid the foundations for something special. Today, we proved that when we are on the back foot and staring down the barrel of catastrophe, we have full belief in ourselves, our team mates, and that we can win from any position we find ourselves in. Like the rest of our great club, there's a buzz of confidence in the air. We've built a winning culture on the back of our HEART values, and the best thing is, we're all having the time of our lives doing it!!

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
