Round 1 4 & 5/10/2025
First Grade

After a long preseason, the boys finally got a chance to get out there in round one as we travelled to Broadbeach, After losing the toss and being sent in the boys got off to a shaking start with only one of the top six managing to score double digits Talha with 20 off 48, thankfully the tail lagged with Freddie fowlers 24 from 23 and man of the match Sayed Monib with 52 off 74, Sayed an Ted Gossett (20 off 33) also put on 60 for the last wicket to leave the score all out for 157.
The boys walked out with a lot of confidence to hopefully be able to defend this total after a great finish to batting innings, the bay opened up with coach Suranga an new recruit Abinesh Bohara who got the bay off to a great start picking up two early wickets the middle of bats of Broadbeach steadied the ship putting on a couple of good partnerships to bring them back into the game, Ted Gossett came on and changed the my momentum quite quickly taking two wickets and his third over to bring the bay right back into the contest Ted finished with 3/22 off his 9 being the pick of the bowlers, captain Jake Wynd reluctantly brought himself on after being a couple overs behind the run rate and manage to snag two vital wickets really pegged back the Broadbeach tail end. with batsmen max law still at the crease Broadbeach always thought they were in with a chance.
Freddie Fowler come back on for a second spell and manage to take the important wicket of Max law, with Broadbeach only needing nine runs of 2.3 overs but also being nine down the game was in the balance but an amazing direct run out from Talha secured the bays first win of the season.

2nd Grade

With the players feeling the anticipation of the new season, the revived optimism surrounding the club and a fresh look to the second grade side for the 25/26 season things were looking positive ahead of the first ball being bowled at home against Broadbeach.
After winning the toss, Captain Cameron Davies elected to bowl and was delighted with the start that the opening bowlers made. Stevie Watson (2/25 off 4) and Ben Canning (4/22 off 8) tore through the Broadbeach top 6 leaving them 6/75. After some key batting partnerships and a well batted 52 by Daniel Scully, Broadbeach were eventually bowled out for 165.
Bay opened up with Brendan Roberts & the Irish brick wall Conor Boyd. Brendo fell for a damaging 17 off 16 which meant that new Bay recruit, Jack Hocart, joined Conor and together put on a 109 run partnership. Conor contributed 44 off 77 & Jack 66 off 55 which left the bay in a strong position only needing 30 to win with 7 wickets in hand. In came Tommy Gosset & Jawid who finished the game off in a blistering fashion chasing down Broadbeach’s total within 28 overs and securing the bonus point win for the boys.

3rd Grade Match Report – Runaway Bay vs Mudgeeraba
Corbwood Oval No.2
Round 1 – A Season Opener to Remember!
It was Captain Raffles’ (Graeme Short) time to shine at the toss — and he didn’t disappoint, calling correctly and electing to bat first under perfect Gold Coast skies.
With first-game nerves buzzing through the team, Hamza and Yuvraj opened the innings, getting the Bay’s season underway with some confident stroke play before Yuvraj fell early. That brought Chris Bartlett to the crease alongside Hamza, and the pair set about building a steady partnership that anchored the innings. Both looked in fine touch, with Chris top-scoring on 32 and Hamza contributing a well-made 23. After their dismissals, wickets fell at regular intervals, but valuable starts from the rest of the lineup helped grind the total to a competitive 141 all out — a fighting total for Round 1.
The experienced Mudgeeraba outfit started their chase in a hurry, but our opening bowlers George and Will managed to strike early, each grabbing a wicket despite some aggressive batting from the hosts. Noah then came into the attack with some teasing off-spin, creating chances and keeping the batters guessing. With the score at 2/77 after 10 overs, the game was slipping away — until the demolition duo of Travis Harker and Chris Bartlett took charge. Travis tore through the middle order in a blistering spell, taking 5 wickets, while Chris backed up his batting heroics with 3 crucial wickets, including the final blow that sealed the match!
Mudgeeraba were bowled out for 115, giving Runaway Bay a 26-run victory to start the season on a high!
Player of the Match: Chris Bartlett – 32 runs & 3 wickets
Honourable Mention: Travis Harker – 5 wickets and game-changing momentum!
Plenty of positives to take from this one — solid partnerships, clutch bowling, and that never-say-die Bay spirit. But also lots to work on as we build toward a big season ahead.
Well done, lads — what a start!

Didn’t do a toss had a captains agreement I said they could bat. Wanted to see how we go fielding. They got off to a strong start they where 152 at drinks break. With a few dropped catches letting us down. We come back well after drinks bowling them out for 237 with the pick of the bowlers T. Hoare 3/30 We were thinking it was a low score after we saw how fast the outfield was. Not to be we were bowled out for 102. Pick of the batsmen was T.Hoare 39 also. Cheers

4th Grade Orange

Round 1 4th Grade Orange
Our season kicked off on Saturday at Riverstone Crossing Vs Helensvale,The ground certainly looked the part with its newly laid pitch and large size but looks can be deceiving as the ground was very hard and the new pitch carpet was rather long and thick, Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, we needed a good start to get a good score, Jamie and Flynn strode to the wicket to get our season off to a flying start…
unfortunately for young Flynn it was a short stay when he managed to find a way to kick the ball from outside leg stump back on to his off stump, this brought Brad Collett to the crease, the pitch was showing a few tricks with some uneven bounce and movement which lead to brad’s early downfall when he received the ball of the match that lifted sharply from a good length to grab a glove and carry to the keeper, at 2 for 10 we were off to a bad start, Wolfy joined Jamie and set about building a partnership, Wolfy was looking great when he fell for 12, at 3for 34 Col joined Jamie who was looking rock solid, the pair took the score to 4/61 when Jamie unfortunately departed for a well made 26 in his new role as an opener, this brought the great man Birdy to the crease and he batted brillantly taking to the bowling in his usually aggressive but unorthodox style hitting boundaries all around the ground, the partnership of 91 took us 5/152 after birdy smoked a pull shot to wide fine leg but unfortunately picked out the 1 bloke out there and hit it down his throat, he made a fantastic 65 off 47 balls which included 13 4s and 1 6, Col (38) followed shorty after and unfortunately we lost our remaining wickets quickly to be all out for 174.
174 wasnt a huge score on that ground so we needed things to go our way and get wickets early but their openers came out swinging!! and swing hard they did smashing 4 boundaries in Will’s first over all slapped off decent pitched deliveries over point to cover area, This continued next over with Jamie and there after particularly brutal on anything pitched up full, 1 particular opener AJ kept on going and hit 100 off 43 balls then retiring out, giving us some relief but unfortunately the damage was done and the target was passed soon after, our bowlers tried hard and didn't do a lot wrong as the batting was just to good.
A couple of our younger bowlers Will Secombe & Hamish Canning did a great job of sticking to their task in the face of the onslaught from experienced batsman so head up boys its onwards and upwards next week as we continue our journey against Coomera at Gainsborough Parkland so see you all there next Saturday

5th Grade

Runaway Bays mighty 5th grade started the season with a trip to the cane fields vs Alberton.
Losing the toss, Alberton elected to bat, but any early hopes they had of a solid start were dashed almost immediately.
Welcoming back to 5th grade, veteran opening bowler Andrew Gross made an immediate impact, removing their opener LBW with his very first delivery. He went on to take two more quick wickets, reducing Alberton to 3/5 after 7 overs. Bowling brilliantly in partnership with stalwart Michael Schumacher who had figures of 0/8 off his 6 over including 3 maidens.
The damage continued through the middle overs, with inspirational stand in captain Craig McGhie (2/18), Joshua Foenander (2/16), and Conan Dunning (3/12) all striking at regular intervals. Wickets fell steadily, with no partnership managing to stabilise the innings for long.
Despite brief resistance, and a few dropped catches, Alberton were eventually dismissed for 101 in the final over.
Chasing a modest target of 102, the Bays openers made sure there were no hiccups. Jamie Hunt full of confidence after taking a screamer at slip earlier in the day and Conan Dunning strutting around like he was 4 foot tall after taking 3 fa took control from the start, rotating the strike effectively and dispatching loose deliveries with ease.
Hunt played a fluent knock with a number of recognisable swing and misses, finishing unbeaten on 48, while Dunning capped off a stellar all-round performance with 40 not out.
The pair brought up the winning runs in style, finishing on 0/103 and sealing a one-sided victory in the 16th over.
And a special mention to our latest 5th grade brother, Brad Adkins who made his club debut. Another quality kiwi gracing our wonderful club.
Next week we take on Bonogin at our home away from home - Gainsborough Parkland. We welcome back some old faces who missed round one (because apparently there are better things to do than play cricket). We will have our regular skipper back too, but after that performance boy does he have some big shoes to fill!!

Welcome back to cricket everyone! We played our first game of the season against Surfers. It was a long way to travel for an away game to Loxton 5, but we seemed to manage it well. We won the toss (1/1) and elected to bowl first. The King himself (Rory Solomon) opened up in tandem with our young superstar Haz. Rory, with his much feared swing, struck early nicking off the Surfers captain to our fast moving keeper Watto. Rory ended with a superb 2/23. Arran and Chippa came on for brief spells, with the latter taking a caught and bowled. While the opener continued to pile on runs going into drinks at 3/121. Enter Quaid Rogers... Playing his first senior game, bowling exceptionally well to set batters, managed to snag his first senior wicket! Not just any wicket though. It was the opening batsman on 99!!! The Bay continues to unearth these talented juniors and I know he's going to do great things. Krusty and Coyne bowled well with Krusty taking 2/21. Dale aka Dad, only made it known 12 months too late that he's been known to bowl, and bowled a tidy last over when Surfers were looking to hit big. Warm up your arm for next week Dale! We limited the damage to 6/219. Matt and Watto opened the batting with the Surfers bowlers on point and near impossible to get away. The boys decided to dig in and wait for the first change bowlers. That's when the batting quickly turned into a battering! With the bowler running in like a fighter jet about to take off, then erratically letting go some pace to rival Mitchell Starc, our boys were hit I'm the head, body as well as a possible broken finger. Thankfully the boys were still alive and not out at drinks (0/82). After drinks Matt went on to make a brave 42. Chasing a big total, Chippa came out next and in typical fashion made a quick 17 and run himself out.... Replaced by Dale, he knew the task at hand, and didn't waste any time getting stuck in. Partnering well with Watto, Dale was finding the rope regularly and cleared it easily with 2 magnificent 6s. As the innings came to a close, Watto carried his bat for a well fought 51, his first half century EVER! Congratulations! Dale earned himself a beautiful 53 not out off 38 balls. Unfortunately we fell 19 runs short (2/201) but gained great insight as to how to manage our very different team this season. A really good effort against quality opposition. GO BAY!!

📅 Mark your calendars, gather your crew, and let’s make this season one to remember!

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
Over 40’s Division 2

Round 1 40s div 2
The veterans season kicked off on Sunday with an Away game vs Coomera at Coomera, with some new faces and a lot of optimism and confidence about starting the year well, even taking into account the sore bodies with almost all the team having played the day before, it sure does suck to get old lol. First order of business was to inspect the pitch followed shortly after by the toss, the pitch certainly wasn't a fresh one but was ok considering it had been used the day before, The coin came down in our favour and we decided to have a bat. Our openers both new to the side Greg Ryan & Chris Castle, in Chris’s case very new to the club only signing up the day before so welcome to the Bay Chris.
Unfortunately our season didn't quite get off to the start we were hoping for with Greg being given out LBW in the first over so we were 1/1 Chris didn't waste to much time taking to the bowling, hitting some powerful shots that got us rolling. Chris unfortunately perished for a well made 31 off 32 with us on 2 /46 in the 9th over, Bizza Joined Col and they set about putting Coomera to the sword with bizza being particularly destructive smashing the bowling to all parts, including one massive strike that cleared the sidescreen and landed in the playground before going on to hit a car in the carpark, which just happened to be his own!! Bizza getting to his 50 very quickly off just 27 balls with 9 4s and 1 massive 6. shortly after Col also retired for 50 as well off 51 balls, their partnership was 97.
Trav was joined by another new player to our club Sean Clark, welcome clarky!! After 20 overs we were 2/160, Trav & Sean continued putting together another great partnership (95) Trav retiring for his 50 off 55 balls followed by Sean with his 50 off 66, Hamad (4) & Duane ( 0) finished unbeaten but only having a few balls to face, We finished with very solid score of 2/258 and certainly a very defendable score.
After Lunch we took to the field to defend our total, Shuey & Tk opened the bowling and both did a great job with TK striking first Knocking over the first over, we were off to a great start 1/7. after some solid resistance Chippa was brought into the attack and picked up the 2nd wicket with a great yorker, 2/45 became 3/53 when shuey picked up the reward he deserved from a fantastic spell of bowling (1/22 off 7 ovs) but the catch taken by Trav in 1st slip was something that had to seen to be believed with an edge what appeared to fly wide of him Travis Harker pulled out his superman cape diving full length to his right and with 1 hand hung on to the ball centimetres from the turf to complete a fantastic catch that removed their dangerman.
Hamad coming into the attack with a plan to take as much pace off the ball as possible and it worked a treat with Hamad bowling very well picking up 3 wickets to crash thru Coomeras middle order and setting us on our way, 6/125 soon turned into 8/131 when Trav joined the party grabbing 2 quick wickets after a couple of dropped chances, and the end seemed very near but some frustrating tailender hitting kept us a bay for a few overs, but with a fantastic bit of fielding Chris Castle from behind the stumps running out the batter at bowlers end with a direct hit throw, breaking the partnership, one wicket to go the skipper finally gave into bizza’s 20 over warm up stretchers and threw him the ball, a self predicted triple bouncer turned out to be a fully that disappeared to the fence first up but bizza got his man and ended the innings at 161 giving us solid 97 run victory, Darren & Duane also bowling great spells so was a great team effort from all the boys first up to get the victory on the road, next up we have a bye so rest up boys see you in a month. UP THE BAY!!!

Over 40’s Division 3

The newly formed Runaway Bay Over 40’s Division 3 played their first game of the season against Burleigh at Burleigh. From the start there seemed to be a significant difference in age between the two teams with a couple of Burleigh players obviously just 40 as opposed to the Bay side made up mostly of players over 50 or 60. We lost the toss and were sent into the field which had a significant amount of sand covering the outfield.
We bowled and fielded well in patches with one or two of their batsmen getting away from us at times. We opened with Matt EDWARDS 0-23 off 7 overs and Arran CANNING 1-29 off 7 overs. Other bowlers included the now retired Tony ROWE 1-49 off 7 overs, Rob (Krusty) Krusvar 1-33 off 7 overs and Tony Robertson 1-49 off 5 overs. Additionally, Bob Menzies bowled 7 overs for 1-31 inclusive of a dropped catch from Paws/whiskers. Paws did manage to take a decent catch later in the innings. Burleigh finished with 5/217 off their 40 overs.
It was now time to bat by which time the ball was keeping very low, and the pitch was hard to bat on. Good local knowledge on the part of Burleigh. We opened with Tony Rowe (18 off 59) and Jim Phillips (20 off 31) who got us off to a decent start. Murray Peirce came and went before a partnership between Bob Menzies (49 off 53) and Matt Cunningham (21 off 63). Heath Slater (15* off 18) came in and was striking the ball well and on one occasion too well when he smashed one back at the bowler who dropped the catch straight onto the stumps running Bob out. Sean Sandford came in late with only a few balls left. We finished with 6/149.
Finally, as alluded to earlier in the report Tony Rowe has elected to retire and he will be sadly missed by all. He has been a good teammate for a number of years since arriving at the Bay and hopefully will still be seen around the club.
