Match Report vs Queens.
We lost the toss on a very nice wicket at queens, the opening bowlers Suranga and Ben bowled very well keeping them under pressure, with no wickets coming we kept there run rate low for a considerable period of time with some tidy bowling. Just before drinks they started to get away a little bit but Yas managed to bowl there opening batsman exposing a new Batsman. Yas bowled an excellent spell with a few chances going down. The wickets continued to fall as they had to up the tempo in the last 15 overs. A really good fight was shown from the lads in the middle period on a flat track. Ted and Taha had the task of bowling those difficult overs. Ben canning came back on to bowl the death overs taking 3 wickets and restricting them to about 240 which we would have had a good chance chasing on a Small Ground. Some good fielding in the Last few overs created some run outs so they finished 9 down.
Unfortunately, the rain came down and we didn’t get back on which left us with the match abandoned and sharing the points.
We go into our bye week leading the Table with a 6 point lead which is a solid position to be in when we play Southport in 2 weeks.

2nd Grade

Round 5 of the season had the Bay 2s at home and scheduled to take on Queens. Having not conceded a Premier grade loss on Loxton 1 in 2025/2026 we were quietly confident that we could take the fight to our close neighbours and secure points. That being said, the weather was on our minds with the forecast suggesting violent storms to ravage the region in the early afternoon. After securing my first loss of the toss for the season, the Queens skipper elected to bowl first on what looked to be a green but typical Loxton pitch.
In the absence of anyone else silly enough to put their hand up, I again partnered Brendo to open the innings before scooping one to mid-off for just 4(17). Jack Hocart joined Brendo at the crease and the two began to look comfortable as the score moved past 50 for the loss of one wicket. Not long after clipping a square 6, that landed one bounce and onto the scorers table, Brendo too succumbed to the wily Bingley for another classy opening knock of 38(43). Tom Gossett and Hocey put on 23 before Jack was adjudged LBW 25(43). Jack’s wicket brought on an early drinks break and saw us in a steady position at 3/83 from 19 overs. Lucas’ stay at the crease was short again this week, returning to the dugout with just the 4(9) and when Tom (22 from 37) decided to try move the game forward he too was caught and we slumped to 5/114. Austin ‘red ink’ Billing 21* (27) and Nathan Proctor 17(13) steadied the ship before Nath dragged a wide one onto his stumps. Not long after Harker 0*(3) had made his way on into the middle, the umpires escorted the players from the field, citing safety concerns owing to lightning at 14:30. With our score at 6/141 and 8 overs still to bat, we were confident we might have put on 200+ should we have faced out our allotment. But as the light further dimmed, the lightning intensified and the drizzle began to set in, it became apparent that there would be no more cricket played on the first day of November 2025. At just past 15:00, in the presence of the umpires, both teams shook hands to halve the points.
Our innings felt very stop-start this week. Every time we looked like building a big partnership, we somehow managed to let it slip. By the same token, every time we looked to be teetering, we managed to drag ourselves back into the game. All in all, it was a frustrating but not unexpected outcome to our round 5 fixture.
Due to the bye in 1st grade, the Bay 2s will be back on Loxton 1 next week as we look to take on Beaudesert and push for a top 2 position on the table.

Remembering Ben Austin – A Tragic Loss for the Cricketing Community
The entire cricketing community was deeply saddened this week by the tragic passing of Ben Austin, a much-loved player from the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club in Melbourne, Victoria.
Ben’s untimely death occurred as the result of a freak accident — a devastating reminder of how fragile life can be, even in the sport we all love. While words can do little to ease the pain felt by his family, friends, and teammates, we at Runaway Bay Cricket Club extend our deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy.
Moments like this remind us of the importance of safety in cricket. Whether it’s wearing the correct protective gear, maintaining equipment, or following ground and training protocols, we all share the responsibility of keeping each other safe.
Our thoughts are with the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club and the broader cricket community during this difficult time.

RBCC V LOGAN VILLAGE
3rd Grade
We finally had a home game that was at the bay and welcomed 2 young lads into 3rd grade for the first time this season, Will Secombe and Will Altass, As we knew the rain was coming at around 3pm we won the toss and chose to bowl
We opened the Bowling with Will Secombe and Josh Hoare both boys bowled well, Josh bowling his 8 straight 1-30 very economical again Will bowled 4 overs none for 33 which bought on Will Altass, This bloke bowled really well his figures do his bowling no justice as edge after edge going between fielders Will bowled 8 Straight none for 50, Bartlett replaced Hoare and bowled well got himself 2 for 34 off his 5, Hamza followed on from Will Altass and took 1 for 23 off his 3 with a great catch from Altass in the deep from there in form Bat
Lightning and thunder called our game off they were going quite well as no luck went our way at all we had them 4 for 192 after 32 overs

Rwb 4 navy match report Runaway Bay Orange’s innings was cut short by rain after posting a competitive 5/190, in what was shaping up to be a close contest against Runaway Bay Navy. Colin Wakefield led the way with a superb 77 not out off 62 balls, striking 11 boundaries and 2 sixes in a captain’s knock that anchored the innings. He was well supported by Nathan Foenander, who made a fluent 56 from 47 deliveries, finding the rope seven times. Late acceleration from Wakefield and Christopher Castle (22 off 15)* ensured Orange finished strongly before the weather intervened. With the ball, Sean Clark was the standout for Navy, claiming 3/29 off 4 overs, dismantling the top order and maintaining pressure through his spell. Jack Holmes (1/37) and Stephen Rudd (1/31) chipped in with key wickets to keep Orange from running away with the game. In the field, Mat Lewis, Flynn Richardson, and Nathan Rudd each took catches to back up the bowling effort. Unfortunately, persistent rain brought an early end to proceedings, leaving the match abandoned with no result.

4th Grade Orange
Orange 4th grade who played there first home game for the season and it was against the Navy side. Orange won the toss and elected to bat as everyone should when the win. Opened with myself and Noah with Foss putting a bit of pressure on the young fella opening up the batting. I felt good like the day might of been the day the bet came off but like every other week couldn’t get it done couple of nice early shots but didn’t stick around Noah also showing that the time in the nets with his batting is truly paying off with some very handy shots also falling soon after that both struggling to make double figures. In came Nat who was seeing Clarky’s hand grenades like beach balls grabbing an impressive 56 batting alongside brother Josh who unlike last week his eyes lit up and hit one straight to Jack. The always impressive Wolfy was up next nicking one to Mat with the gloves on, with only snagging 1 run. Skipper came out and was in a mood to increase the runs with the sky above starting to take a turn for the worse Foss finishing on 77 not out batting alongside Mr Reverse sweep himself Chris also stranded on 22 not out when the lighting and thunder was in the area. Which closed the days play out with the match being called a draw. Just also want to say from my perspective really proud of both teams who have a lot of changes each and every week was really great to see everyone having a great time with smiles on there faces and that is was cricket is all about. Was an absolute pleasure playing the Navy team and we look to continue the battle when we meet later in the season. JL #familyclub

Round 5 & we played an away game away rather than a home game away!
We won the toss & decided to put them in, in the hope of an easy kill, get the runs early & pack up with a win before the rain. That was the plan anyway. Everything was going according to plan with Grossy claiming the first wicket early, as he’d done the previous 4 weeks, & when Fridge claimed the second wicket soon after, our plan was on track. Unfortunately the plan spiralled out of control from there with the next 2 batters batting until well after drinks taking thier score from 2/12 to 3/161. We only dismissed 3 others for the remainder of their innings, leaving them 5/225 after their 36 overs. The wicket takers Grossy 1/18, Fridge 1/29, Casper 1/51, Snitty 1/22 & Duane 1/33.
Their score would’ve been a lot less had a certain member of the team not let a couple of 4’s straight between his legs but wasn’t going to let another ball pass him in the field when he was struck squarely in the family Jewel & a 45 minute break ensued with him rolling around in pain while Bizza told him to get up because the rain was heading our way.
Our turn to bat but mother nature had other ideas so we packed up & got on the beers for the rest of the day. Not a win but not a loss so still undefeated. Cheers JH

🎬 Movie Under the Stars – A Spooktacular Night at Runaway Bay Cricket Club!
Last Friday night, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club teamed up with the Gold Coast City Council for a Movie Under the Stars event — proudly supported by Councillor Shelly Curtis.
In true Halloween fashion, a storm was brewing just as the event kicked off! While we worried the weather might scare a few people away, a brave and enthusiastic crowd still turned out, ready for a spooky good time.
Before the movie began, the kids enjoyed some ghostly games and Halloween fun out on Sam Loxton Aussielec Oval. Once the skies cleared, everyone settled in under the stars to enjoy the classic supernatural comedy Ghostbusters — the perfect choice for a Halloween movie night!
A huge thank you goes out to Councillor Shelly Curtis and the Gold Coast City Council for their support, and to our incredible team of volunteers who helped make the night such a success.
Despite the thunderclouds, it turned into a memorable community night filled with laughter, popcorn, and a little bit of spooky magic.
We can’t wait to see you all at the next Runaway Bay Cricket Club event!

🎃 Spooktacular Fun at the Bay’s Halloween Party! 👻
Saturday night saw the Bay come alive with ghosts, ghouls, and plenty of laughter at our annual Runaway Bay Cricket Club Halloween Party!
Just like the night before, storms were predicted—and most senior games were called off early—but that didn’t stop our Bay family. Those who braved the weather and got into costume were rewarded with a spooktacular night full of fun and community spirit.
The creativity on display was next-level! From creepy classics to clever creations, the effort everyone put into their costumes was simply brilliant. Our younger Bay members were having the time of their lives—playing games, showing off their outfits, and, of course, filling up on lollies (and maybe a few extra!).
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who dressed up, turned up, and helped make the night such a success. Halloween at the Bay is always a fantastic family event, and this year was no exception. Your enthusiasm and community spirit are what make this club so special.
Until next year… keep those costumes handy—you never know when the next Bay bash might creep up on you! 🕸️🦇

Round 5 took us to Frank Chasten Oval to take on Bonogin. With my customary toss loss (1/5) meant we we in the field again. Don't stress Haz will take over the coin toss next week. Haz and Dale opened the bowling and were very sharp. Haz was constantly beating the bat but, unfortunately, was moving the ball too much for the batters to get anything on it. Dale finished with a beautiful caught and bowled in his final over. We were right on top with some incredible fielding by Quaid, who was being peppered, but he didn't let anything past him. I haven't seen fielding this consistently good in a long time! Quaid and Darren took over the attack and were both brilliant, each claiming a wicket in sensational performances for the team. I thought we had them on toast, so I threw Krusty the ball who decided we needed something to chase and went for 0/50 off his 6 overs. Great tactics at trying to give the batters something to do later in the day Krusty. Sameera started well before the cross bat slogger started to get hold of him late. Unfortunately for us, and the slogger as it turns out, the rain stopped play with the batter on 99 and Bonogin on 186 off 32 overs. A very gettable target. Play didn't resume due to the amount of water on the pitch. Quaid was very deservedly named player of the match. Have a great week. Chippa

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
Over 40’s Div 2

40s Div 2 Rd 3 vs Alberton at Trevor Hammel Field
The 40s Div 2 side arrived at Trevor Hammel Field in Alberton to find the ground was still wet from the storms overnight which wasn't a surprise, it did however cause a delay to the start of the game.
We were a bit short of players as Ruddy had to withdraw that morning due to work & Col also having to work so would be arriving later,
Sean took control of the side and won the toss and decided to have a bowl hoping the conditions would be in our favour and also the extra bat latter on would help in the chase.
Shuey & Duane opened the bowling, both bowled well making early in roads into the Alberton batting lineup both picking up an early wicket to have Alberton 2-14 in the 6th over,
Sean brought himself & Peter Crittenden on and Critto picked up the 3rd wicket with the score on 44 in the 14th over, the boys were going well with 10 men,
unfortunately Alberton batters then put on a solid 61 run partnership which wasn't broken til shortly after drinks when Andy Foenander broke through with the score 4-106 off 26 overs, dropped catches were proving an issue as the bowlers were creating chances but we just couldn't capitalise, Hamad was the next to strike in the 31st over, at 5 for 139 with 9 overs to go if we kept the bowling tight we could keep them to a very gettable score, Col finally arrived which gave us the full 11 players,
Clarky came back on and after a few chances got his reward with a wicket 6 for 159 with 4 overs to go, unfortunately Andrew Nicholson had other ideas with some clean striking brought up his 50 off 38 and gave Alberton a huge boast,
Duane returned to finish the innings picking up his 2nd wicket to finish with 2 /24 off 7,
Alberton finishing with 7 for 198 off 40 overs a score that was going to be challenging but if we batted we very achievable,
The Bowlers did well in the circumstances Shuey 1/14 off 5, Critto 1/16 off 5, Sean 1/41 off 7, Hamad 1/36 off 7, Andy 1/40 off 7 & Conan 0/26.
After a great lunch provided by Alberton CC we set about the chase, opening with Lee Greenwood & Conan Dunning who got us off to a solid start putting on 37 for the 1st wicket when Conan went for 19,
Paul Mathews playing his 1st game for the club joined Lee, unfortunately Lee was runout from a direct hit just 1 run later,
2/38 off 12 overs we were slightly behind the run rate but with plenty of overs to come with 8 wickets still in hand we were going ok,
Hamad joined paul and the boys proceeded to build a partnership putting on 25 before Paul fell for 13, Andy (4) came and went and with the score now on 4 for 68, off 18 overs Heath Slater came to the wicket and again a partnership (34 runs) was formed and just as it was flourishing Heath (9) got out, we were 5 for 102 off 25 overs still needing 97 for victory off 90 deliveries with 5 wickets in hand, Col had now served his time from being late and was allowed to come to the wicket, he joined Hamad and they quickly established a partnership and worked hard to take the attack back to the Alberton Bowlers, the ground was still very slow and most shots were stopping short of the boundary forcing the boys to do a lot of running which they did, putting on a 31 run partnership off 24 balls getting the run rate under control again, unfortunately Hamad went for 1 to many big shots and got out just short of his 50 for a very well made 48 off 44 balls a fantastic innings,
Alberton thought they were back on top having us 6 down for 133 still needing 66 runs for victory off 12 overs,
But enter Critto who along with Col continued the momentum putting together a 62 run partnership from 53 balls with some great shots and a lot of hard work and great running and took us to within a sniff of victory when Col (36 off 37 ) was adjudged LBW for just 4 runs to get.
Sean came to the wicket and scored the final runs to complete a fantastic gutsy win for the boys, Critto finished 32no off 26 balls an outstanding effort from him considering after fielding he was unable to walk!! or so he said lol
That keeps us undefeated thru 3 rounds next game in 2 weeks time is against Mudgie at Loxton 1,
see you all next time GO BAY!!
Over 40’s Div 3

The Bay Hosted Loganholme Green on Sunday at Loxton - 1 .
A huge thank you to the Lads on Saturday that got the covers down before
the storm hit which enabled us Old Fellas to get a game in on Sunday .
Before we walked out both sides stood side by side for a minute silence
to respect Ben Austin and his Family .
We then stood for another minute to respect the Passing of Bay Player
Murray Whyte mother Peggy Whyte during the week .
Loganholme won the Toss and sent the Bay into Bat .
Murray and Matt opened up with Matt smashing one out the screws to gully
hitting the chest of the fielder before moving he hands , caught on the
bounce for a Duck .
This pretty much set the standard for the Day with every chance going to
hand and sticking for Loganholme , let alone we found out after the game
they had stacked their side with 3 - 40/1 players
after their game was called off against the Dolphins with tow being
their 40/1 opening bowlers and Captain :)
Jimmy Phillips being the stand out with a gritty 43 from 72 balls and
Bobby in great form this season with another quick fire 25 from 34 balls
, setting Loganholme 126 to chase .
We opened up the bowling with Azz and Krusty with Loganholme on a
mission to chase our score down from the opening overs swing the willow
from Ball one .
Bringing Michael Leow & Bobby on to try and slow things down Michael
struck Bowling Loganholme Captain Scott Rice for - 7 , with Greg and
Scott exchanging mobile phone numbers as he walked of :)
The Damaged had been done with the Bat by Loganholme as we threw the
Ball to a very reluctant Geoff McQueen to roll his arm over with very
few runs left to chase down .
Boom Geoff Struck in his 1st Over clean bowling the Opening Bat for 31 ,
with Geoff finishing with 1 for 8 from his 2 - overs :)
Loganholme chased us down in the 22nd over .
Great effort by all against a over classed Loganholme 40/3 side .
Cheers .
Matty .
