Under 10’s Orange vs Runaway Bay Navy

It was Battle of the Bay 3.0!

With the season series against Runaway Bay Navy sitting at 0 wins,1 loss, and a 1 washout, the Bay Orange Under 10’s took on their clubmates at Loxton Oval 1 under the bright lights looking for retribution. With a full orange squad this week, Yaqub volunteered to fill in for Navy to even out the numbers. Lucas was our captain this week, and after winning the toss elected to bat.

Coming up against a high quality, well-rounded bowling attack, the Orange Mini Seagulls scratched together 113 for the loss of 10 wickets off our allotted 20 overs.  Contributions were down across the board with only Lucius topping 20 and Charlie, Elijah, Lucas and Neil compiling scores in double figures. A lot less cone balls than we are used to seeing and some absolute rippers that I don’t think our batsmen even saw (Yes, I’m talking about YOU Owen Ray looking like a left handed Shaun Tait) found us wanting with the bat. Still some good running and calling all round, but especially by Lucius and Charlie who ran four and then got 4 overthrows for an unlikely 8.

Knowing we had to be tight in the field, and with our bowling lines we got off to a good start defending our total.  Billy and James getting a wicket each in their respective first overs.  Abhi with 2 and Zac with one followed the trend and at halfway, we were right in this, having only given up 63 runs. But Navy took it away from us at the end with some power hitting from twin lefties, Finn and Owen, who proved too strong.  Special mention to our opening bowlers Billy and James, who are only 6 or 7 years old both picking up 3 wickets a piece, and Abhi chiming in with 2 wickets after being on a hattrick. Charlie was economical as always with 1/8 off his 2 overs and for his first time, (and second time this season by an Orange player) Elijah didn’t give up a cone ball.  While our bowling is getting better, their batting was top notch, so credit where it is due.

In the field the boys stood tall and committed to everything, Mum’s will be glad that the players now wear blue, not white, so the summer Napisan subscription isn’t required to get out the stains.  A few dropped catches tonight with the ball in the lights, but the ones we took, were important.  Abhi and Elijah led the way with 2 each in our best catching game for the season so far.  As usual our fielding and the amount of runouts was excellent. It shows concentration and hard work in the field, and as a coach and a spectator, I couldn’t be happier.

In summary, we went down by 55 runs, we got 2 more wickets, but tonight Navy were too good.  Our player of the match was Abhi who hit 9 runs, got 2/21 with the ball, 2 great catches, a stunning direct runout and a partridge in a pear tree.  Well done Abhi!!! And also special thanks to Yaqub who has the best attitude I’ve seen in a long time by unselfishly filling in for the opposition and contributing 11 with the bat and 0/9 with the ball in their victory.

Chins up boys, great effort all round, we just came up against a really good team.  I hope to see you all at training on Tuesday and we can keep working on the little things to make us better equipped to beat these guys next time.

Well done again boys, Go The Bay!

RBCC V COOMERA

Under 11s

On Saturday we had yet another home game that was actually away but this time in Mt Tambourine. Our skipper this week was Harry and he won the toss and Batted, We opened up with Callum and Vansh, we got off to a great start with Vansh hitting 21 including 3 4s and Callum getting 12, next in was the skipper Hazza and Alex both boys played really well with Alex hitting his first ball for 4 Harry ended up on 13 and Alex 14, Ziggy and Sadie were next in lifting the run rate immensely and some great loud calling which you could of heard down the mountain from Ziggy, Ziggy ended up on a whopping 29 and Saddie 21, Arthur and Reuben were last to come in an both these lads kept the runs flowing with Arthur smashing 2 fours for his22 and Reuben 3 fours for his 21. El Capatain Haz opened with himself and Callum The skip getting a wicket in his first over finishing with figures of 1-9 off 2 overs while Callum 2-17 off his 3 overs Reuben and Ziggy were next to follow both bowling great lines and unlucky to take any wickets Reuben 0-16 off 2 and Ziggy 0-9 off his 2, Sadie and Alex were the next pair in Sadie displaying yet another spectacular show with her 0-10 off her 3 overs and Alex bowling superbly with one of the best balls I have seen from a leg spinner being on his first ever hat trick finishing with figures of 2-17 off his 3 overs, Vansh and Arthur were the next 2 to bowl Vansh got a bit unlucky bowling 0-23 off his 3 overs and Arthur doing what Arthur does bowling very tight and economically for 1-6 off his 2 overs, Its great to see our team getting along so well and developing their skills each week,

Our player of the day was Alex

Great to see old boys back watching games 🏏

Under 13’s Div 2

🏏 Match Report: Runaway Bay Seagulls U13 Div 2 took on Coomera Hope Island on sam loxton 3.

We lost the toss and were sent in for a bat, the conditions looked good.

Our batters set a challenging total of 1-156 from our 25 overs, largely thanks to an all-round solid team effort with the bat.

Fletcher set the tone getting us off to a great start as the opener, retiring not out on 30 runs from 30 balls (4 fours). Hugo was the standout performer, top-scoring with a rapid 45 runs from 30 balls, including 6 fours and 1 six before retiring not out. Ever the steady hand Hudson also made a valuable contribution, retiring not out with 18 runs from 30 balls.

With our innings well-supported by Maggie  (17 retired not out) and excellent late hitting from the Charlie  (12* from 17 balls) and Nash (6* from 10 balls).

Chasing 157 for victory, Coomera Hope Island Gold finished their 25 overs at 8-111, falling short by 45 runs.

We welcomed back our star Olive with open arms this week, and as per usual she was our most successful bowler, taking 2 wickets for 10 runs from 3 overs, including the first wicket on her 2nd ball. We missed you!

Nash was exceptionally economical and damaging, taking 1 wicket for just 3 runs from 3 overs, which included 2 maidens. Also contributing well was Hugo (1/9) and Charlie (1/12) also securing one wicket each.

Some great fielding also with Nash and Charlie each claiming a catch, while Charlie and Lachlan with Hugo were responsible for 2 run outs.

The team unfortunately let Coomera Hope Island away with too many extras this week conceded by our guys, contributing 43 runs (including 29 wides and 4 no balls) which we will need to tighten up in coming games.

Sportsmanship awards went to Olive and Maggie this week. Player of the match awards went to Fletcher and Charlie for a great game.

Day 1 Runaway v Coomera

Much anticipated game this one!

We lost the toss and Coomera wanted to have a crack with the bat.

We managed a couple of wickets throughout the early stages of the innings falling to Archie and Kade with some good length deliveries.

Bit of a flurry through the middle saw Will, Harry, Robert, Archie and Ollie all take wickets with some nice catches from Kade and Harry.

Ollie, Harry and a caught and bowled from Josh finished up the innings. Coomera 10/197

Coomera proved to be stubborn and a left us a great run chance. Another opportunity to see how we go with a run chase.

Super impressed with our bowling improvement. We have struggled to get our length going but it seemed to click this week.

Well done boys! Everyone played an important role.

Thanks everyone for making it happen!

DAY 1 MATCH REPORT

Runaway Bay Seagulls Opens Div 1 vs U17 Surfers Paradise Div 1

Runaway Bay Seagulls Opens Div 1 won the toss to open the two-day fixture and elected to bowl, backing their experienced attack to make early breakthroughs against a strong Surfers Paradise U17 side stacked with representative-level talent.

The Seagulls started well, with Stephen WatsonToby Hudson, and Quaid Rogers applying early pressure through tight lines and good discipline. The first breakthrough came courtesy of Will Altass, who removed opener Archie Atkinson and momentarily swung momentum back toward Runaway Bay.

As the innings progressed, Surfers showed their class and depth, building partnerships and capitalising when opportunities arose. Runaway Bay’s bowlers continued to work hard, highlighted by an excellent spell from Taika Hoare, who claimed 2/41 from 10 overs, consistently troubling the batters with his length and turn.
Late in the innings, captain Jake Schultz produced the standout moment of the day — a brilliant short spell of 3/3, supported by two sharp stumpings from Flynn Richardson. Jake’s mum was not so pleased, given he is on restricted duties due to a back injury.

While the Seagulls created chances throughout the innings, the fielding was inconsistent at times, with a few missed opportunities that Surfers—given their quality—were quick to punish. Even so, there were strong moments in the field, including catches to Lucy LoganQuaid RogersTaika Hoare, and Schultz,  a sharp runout by Hamish Canning as well as committed effort across the group during a long 50 overs.

Surfers eventually posted 7/290, a strong total but one that still leaves the door slightly open heading into Day 2. With a talented batting lineup of their own and plenty of overs ahead, the Seagulls will return next weekend looking to build partnerships, apply pressure back onto Surfers, and put themselves in a position to chase down the target.

A testing day against a high-quality opposition — but the contest is far from over. Day 2 sets up a great challenge for the Seagulls.

📅 Mark your calendars, gather your crew, and let’s make this season one to remember!

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
