Seniors 29 & 30/11/2025
First Grade

We turned up to Aussielec Oval on a very overcast day with a bit of weather hanging about. Sitting at the top of the table i knew we needed another win to get a gap going into Christmas. After loosing the toss again we were sent into bat is some troubling conditions.
Loosing a wicket early meant that Jayden and Yas had to create a base batting well scoring on a tricky pitch. Jayden scored a nice looking 39. After Yas was dismissed, we went of for rain and stayed off for a while. When we returned it had been reduced to 33 overs per side. Which put us slightly on the back foot. with solid contributions from the middle order we needed some runs from somewhere. Jake Wynd came in and settled in nicely scorning some early boundaries. And did not look back. Scoring 59 of 47 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. The tail wagged just enough to scrape us to a score of 163.
Suranga and Ben bowled excellently, with the new pink ball swinging around Suranga was unplayable, with some excellent delivery’s Suranga took 2 early wickets. Supported well by Ben Canning who also took two wickets, both finding the outside edge. Ted came on and bowled an excellent spell also taking 2 wickets. We continued to build pressure but they batted well for a period and only chasing 163 meant as soon as they had a partnership they got close.
We threw everything at them and managed to get them 9 down going into the second to last over. Yas bowled a good over and they went for a single that wasn’t there and Talha threw the ball back to the bowler leading to a 3 wicket win. Another win keeps our lead at the top of the table going into the next week.

2nd Grade

A hot and sultry day greeted the Bay 2s upon arrival at Trevor Hammel fields to take on Alberton in our Round 9 fixture of the season. Showers throughout the week, the radar indicating more rain likely during the day and a tacky pitch to boot, it would be an important toss to win. After losing the coin toss, the Alberton captain feigned brief consideration of his options before declaring ‘ahh, we’ll bowl first’, to which I promptly replied ‘I bet you will’.
Returning to the side this week, Timmy Murdoch 4(10), paired with Stilo and after a lovely pull shot was dismissed by a short delivery which he snicked though to the keeper. Jack Hocart replaced Timmy and the two pushed the field with sharp singles before Stirlo 14(21), was on his way again caught at slip playing his favourite dab cut shot. “When’s it gonna change Stirlo? Put it away.” Tom Gossett retuned to the side this week but sadly when he chipped one to cover, he was out for 7(10) with the score at 3/59. ADHD Billing came in and played one of the most fascinating (albeit short-lived) innings, whereby he copped a full-bunger first ball, followed by a free hit! The very next over, after the keeper having fumbled a throw from the in-field, Hocey called Austin through for a second run momentarily before realising that it probably wasn’t on. The two met mid-pitch and as the keeper re-gathered his composure, the bails at the striker’s end were whipped off and Austin was on his way 9(7). I 4(9) came and went without offering any threat to the opposition, Nath Proctor 8(22) looked good but like so many others, struggled on the sticky track and despite a monster six, Jawid 13(12) too was back in the sheds after a short stay at the crease. With wickets falling all around him Hocey kept his composure by pushing the field and whacking the best part of 3 in every 5 balls through gaps that on any other day, would have been boundaries. The return of Alberton’s opening bowler saw the downfall of Hocey as he was dismissed bowled in the search of late runs. The sodden outfield really had robbed Jack of a solid 30-40 runs and his knock of 65(63) felt like it was worth a whole lot more. With Harry Sullivan 7*(8) and Harker 1*(2) whacking a few around at the end, we closed out our innings that had been reduced to 27 overs due to rain with a competitive total of 8/147.
The emergence of the sun suggested that Alberton might get the best of the conditions as we took the field for our bowling innings. Unfortunately dear reader, I cannot bring you the customary ctrl C, ctrl V joke this week, as Stevie ‘Mostly Weekly’ Watson 0/23(2) was belted around and battered out of the attack in his first two overs by the Alberton skipper. Both Alberton openers whacked it around early and it took a good delivery from George Edney 1/23 (4) to make the breakthrough as he dismissed an opener LBW with the score at 1/29 from just 3.1 overs! Harry Sullivan replaced Stevie at the southern end and applied the exact sort of Bay Squeeze required for the circumstances. Nippy and consistent as ever Harry returned figures of 0/19 (5) that got us back into the game. Tommy Gossett 2/14 (6) replaced George from the northern end and together with Harry, began to get us back into the game. With the Alberton skipper, M. Yeind, displaying the form we all have come to expect of him, the game was in the balance at 2/72 after 15 overs as T.Harker took the ball. In true fashion, Trav tightened things up and slowly began to chip away at Alberton’s patience. Despite only taking a solitary wicket, Trav’s 6 overs only went for 22 runs as he dragged us back into the game. With 4 overs required to be bowled from the southern end and Harry and Tom having bowled out, I turned to Jawid to close out the innings. After a wayward first over from Jawid, Alberton were back in the game at 3/112 from 23 overs. Placing all our faith in Jawid, I persisted with the man who never ceases to make an impact and sure enough, after a Jawid took a caught and bowled, the game was ours to lose. The fall of the sixth wicket saw the end of Alberton’s hopes as Jawid iced the game with a superb final over that only went for 3 runs as he finished with figures of 2/21 (4).
This was a tight game that we won the hard way. All of our previous wins had been either big and or easy ones but this one, this one was hard fought. In a match that tested our mettle it was really, really exciting to see us hold our nerve and triumph against a quality side. We kept calm, hunted as a pack and most importantly kept up the energy in the field. I’m really proud of the team for this one as we could have easily been forgiven for letting it slip in trying conditions. Well done fellas. With a whole win clear at the top of the table, we are down to Burleigh next week in an effort to further extend our lead in the Second Grade competition.
Patrick.

3rd grade Runaway Bay vs Palm Beach Runaway Bay 172 def. Palm Beach 81 Runaway Bay stormed to a dominant 91-run victory over Palm Beach yesterday, combining a determined batting performance with a ruthless bowling effort that tore through the opposition. Batting first, Runaway Bay were under pressure early when Brendan Roberts and Josh Hoare fell cheaply, leaving the side two wickets down with little on the board. Momentum shifted when Samuel Heathwood and Lucas Frazer came together, settling the innings and building a platform. Heathwood’s steady 29 from 43 balls helped stabilise things, while Frazer played the standout knock of the innings with a fluent 42 from 54 deliveries, finding the boundary six times and lifting the scoring rate. The middle order kept the runs flowing. Christopher Bartlett chipped in with 15, and Muhammad Hamza Nadeem added a crucial 31 from just 26 balls, striking cleanly and pushing the total upward. Taika Hoare played an important cameo with 12 off 12, including two crisp boundaries, before Graeme Short and William Altass added late runs to take Runaway Bay to a competitive 172. Despite losing wickets throughout, the side maintained intent and ensured Palm Beach were set a challenging target. Palm Beach’s chase never gained momentum thanks to a devastating opening burst from Josh Hoare. Bowling with precision and movement, he ripped through the top order in a spell that completely changed the match. He removed Levi Schache and Mitchell Tripp early before claiming the wickets of Joshua and Kobe Movigliatti, reducing Palm Beach to 4/32 and leaving them in deep trouble. Hoare finished with extraordinary figures of 5/14 from eight overs, including three maidens — one of the best spells of the season. Palm Beach’s only significant resistance came from Benjamin Keough, who looked threatening with 28 from 30 balls. His innings ended in spectacular fashion when he slashed at a rising delivery and Taika Hoare flew horizontally in the gully to take an absolute screamer, a catch that lifted the entire Runaway Bay side and crushed Palm Beach’s hopes of rebuilding. From there, the innings unravelled quickly. Jared Austin bowled beautifully to claim 3/27 from his eight overs, while Hamza Nadeem backed up his batting effort with a tight and effective spell of 2/11 from 4.1 overs. William Altass delivered a tidy four-over contribution as Palm Beach were dismissed for just 81 in 24.1 overs. Josh Hoare was the clear player of the match, his five-wicket haul breaking Palm Beach open before they had any chance to settle. Strong contributions from Frazer, Hamza, Austin, and Taika — both with the bat and that highlight-reel catch — rounded out what was a complete and confident team performance. Written by Josh hoare

4th Grade Orange

Rd9 4s Orange vs Coomera red,
This week we were away again, but a little closer to home at least as we were at St Stephens College in Coomera.
We were a pretty young side this week as we were missing a few of our regular experienced wise heads but it wasnt going to stop us having a crack at a higher ranked Coomera side.
On arrival at the ground the conditions were dark and gloomy as light rain fell but the ground was in great condition and both sides were committed to playing a game of cricket.
We lost the toss and were sent into bat and with the rain easing off so we started pretty much on time.
We opened with Greg Bird & James Munro, unfortunately it wasn't the start we hoping for when Birdy (12) smashed the ball back at the bowler and was brilliantly caught one handed low to the ground, 1/12 soon became 2/24 when James was caught for 5, this got Col & Josh Foenander together and they proceeded to firstly steady the ship then take the attack back to the Coomera bowlers, the conditions were very hot and humid and certainly were effecting the players. some big hitting & strong running saw the boys put on a great partnership of 117 before Josh was caught for a hard hitting 59 from 52 balls 3x 4s and 4 6s.
Stephen Wolf joined Col & the pair once again put together a strong partnership not for the first time this year, this time it was 59 when Col had a swing at super high bouncer but unfortunately due to his sweaty nature the bat slipped from his hands and slide back on to his stumps which brought and end to his innings at 89 off 85 5 x 4s 5x 6s,
4/200 with a little over 4 overs remaining we hoped we could finish off the innings strongly which we did finishing on 7/240 with wolfy (24) Andy (24)& Nate foenander (10), abdul(7) & Noah doing a great job.
We took to the field confident that if we could bowl & field well we had a competitive score,
We opened with Josh & Birdy who bowled well but the Coomera openers took some chances and got them off to a flying start 0/70 off 11 overs as the the ground was rapidly drying out under the afternoon sun,
Will Secombe then struck managing to get one gloved Down leg side to Col, credit to the batter who walked with the umpire not hearing or seeing it,
1 became 2 when James got the other opener first ball of the next over,
The boys battled hard with Will (1/42)bowling a great spell beating the bat and getting edges thru slips,
James 1/23 also bowled well,
We then brought on Abdul a new guy to our team & club he brought a lot of energy & enthusiasm to the crease and he grabbed 2/26 & the other inclusion for this week returning from injury jake Shultz who was also joined in the team by none other then the great kelly Shultz who in a fantastic club moment joined us on field,
although Jake was operating well below his full capacity he was still a massive handful and well above this level, he beat the bat and gave the batsmen headaches grabbing a wicket and 1/24 we now had them 5/151 after 22,
we needed to continue getting wickets to give ourselves a chance,
They had Owen Henry at the crease who is a big unit & hits the ball very hard, every time we got on top he swung hard and got 1 over the rope, we kept on fighting and grabbed the prized wicket of Henry with Nate (1/18) getting him to sky one to long on and a great catch by wolfy doing what he does it gave us a chance 6/221, 20 required off 30 balls,
Josh (1/30) returned and grabbed a wicket 7/235 6 off 8, unfortunately a boundary then shut the gate and coomera got over the line with 4 balls to spare, another heartbreaking close loss, could not be prouder of the fight that the boys are putting up, we just need to find a way to win the close ones!
Finally we return home next week so see you all at Loxton 3 Go Bay!!!

5th Grade

Folks, what happened today was a TOTAL miscarriage of cricket justice. Runaway Bay played beautifully — classy batting everywhere. Jamie drops 42, Garred the captain smashes a presidential 44, Nilon hits 30 in about three minutes, and Craig and Gross finish like absolute champions.
211 on the board — a winning score. A BIG winning score.
But Helensvale? They get the luckiest chase ANYONE has ever seen. Edges flying to empty space, balls landing where even Google Maps couldn’t predict them. Total joke! Runaway Bay bowlers worked SO hard — Gross was unbelievable, Schumacher deadly — but the cricket gods said, “Nope, not today!”
The wrong team won, folks. Everybody knows it. Runaway Bay played like CHAMPIONS — Helensvale just played like the lottery finally paid out.

6th Grade

We returned to the infamous Loxton 6 against Helensvale, with a staircase to climb as the bowlers charged in to bowl. Ctrl V, Ctrl P, I lost the toss (1/6). The Hawks decided to bat, which I thought was a poor decision with the rain about and it expected to clear. Our opening bowlers, King and Quaid, got us off to a great start, claiming early wickets until Singh came to the crease and started hitting sixes so far and high it stopped the rain! This forced a bowling change. I teamed up with Harry "Giant Killer" Rachow, who is our go-to under distress. I had a few breakthroughs while our Giant Killer toiled away at Singh. As sure as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, Haz claimed the scalp of the giant, Singh with the help of an unbelievable one handed catch right on the boundary at cow corner by Smudge! This instantly turned the tempo of their innings and earned Haz a seat on my shoulders by the pitch immediately after the wicket, with the chant GIANT KILLER roaring around the ground. After finishing his spell of feasting on another Giant, Haz still had an appetite and was seen feasting on the match ball!! Darren took over with MD, our newest member of the Bay, playing his first game of cricket in decades. Darren bowled extremely tight and really put the squeeze on the Hawks. It's a luxury we've become accustomed to this year. At the other end, MD, aka "The Mop," absolutely abliterated the tail enders with blistering pace and accuracy, earning himself his new nickname. Aidan took a really special catch off his bowling to start the destruction, running back and taking an extremely difficult catch over his head. We bowled them out for 182. Quaid and Matt opened the batting. After a few overs, unfortunately, Quaid departed without troubling the scorers. Smudge came to the crease and blasted his way to 27 with a sore foot, courtesy of being hit in the same spot 3 weeks in a row until he went one too many times and was caught. Haz came and looked good until he charged a spinner and got stumped. This brought Aidan in, who claimed he was going to play a smarter innings as he walked out to bat. I haven't seen this side of him before. The look of determination on his face to not get out and work his eye in can be likened to that of Sachin Tendulkar. From the sidelines, we could see he was hitting the middle every ball and was clearly set, and the target was starting to get big on us. So I sent the message out to play his naturally aggressive game and let Matt keep doing what he was doing at the other end. What came next had us all in disbelief. Aidan went beserk with the bat, hitting sixes and fours at will, taking over 20 runs in an over, spreading their entire team to the boundary and single handedly relieving any pressure that had been mounting on us. Unfortunately, he went for a wide one and top edged to finally fall, but his innings was something special. Rory came and went but looked solid before being caught. I joined Matt in the middle, who had played the innings of his life. He carried his bat, kept ticking the scoreboard over, and guided us home as he hit the winning runs for his unbeaten 79*. Another win against a quality side, and we are firing on all cylinders. We are keeping in touch with the top 4 as we motor through the season. The Grilld Harbour Town man of the match award this week goes to Aidan for his heroics with the bat and spectacular fielding. Congratulations, mate, and enjoy that delicious burger! Chippa

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 40’s Div 2

40s div 2 vs Tambourine
Sunday found us home on the magnificent Loxton 1,
under sunny skies for a change,
The boys were ready to go and we won the toss!!..without hesitation had a bat,
We opened with Lee Greenwood & Chris Schultz who has been in great form in the 6s & was looking forward to batting up the top again,
The boys started well & put the Tambourine bowlers to the sword early putting on 84 for the 1st wicket when Lee(32) was given out for the only LBW for the day,
Paul came and went unfortunately dragging one on,
Bizza joined Chipper before he retired for a well made 50 off 42,
Bizza hit his first ball for 6 and continued on making a hard hitting 52 off 36, Jason Hay joined Col who had the best view of the bizza show, but unfortunately Jason (5) was another drag on victim,
Col then followed the drag on trend doing the same for 38 with the score 4/204 with 6 overs to go,
Hamad & Critto got together and finished the innings very well taking us to 4/249 Hamad(35) & Critto (30),
After another great Lunch we took to the field to defend our competitive score,
Jason opened the bowling with Schuey, Tambourine came out breathing fire and having a real crack scoring quickly but in the process lost some wickets with Hay picking up 4 wickets in his spell, we had them 4/71 off 10 overs Jason 4/38(6) Schuey 0/36(5) a bit unlucky creating some chances we didn’t take,
Duane & Trav came into the attack and both bowled well Duane 1/43 (7) unlucky again with dropped catches a particularly costly 1 by Trav in slip when he uncharacteristically putting 1 down off David Andrews who batted extremely well and made us pay,
Speaking of Trav 0/29 (6)who bowled well but for only the 2nd time this year failed to take a wicket,
In what was a pivotal moment in the match Tambourine 5/146 off 24 overs still requiring 104 off 16 overs it was game on, the skipper threw the ball to chipper hoping he might be able to grab a wicket to turn it in our favour & that is exactly what he did after being whacked for 4 he hit back knocking back the middle stump & with his tail up never looked back as he crashed through their lower order taking 5/26 (4.4) including Andrews who retired then returned but batted brilliantly for his 73, Tambourine all out 203,
a fair game from chipper 50rt & 5fa,
a highlight in the field thou was schueys catch at long on who looked no chance of catching it but somehow managed to drag in a great diving catch well done Schuey, after the match both teams relaxed for a few drinks some laughs and some fresh oysters provided by the Tambourine skipper thanks Dave,
Just how cricket should be played in great spirit and fun by all was had,
We stay undefeated equal top see u all in 2 weeks time Go Bay!!

Over 40’s Div 3

Over 40's Div 3 - RBCC 6/216 Def by Loganholme Red 3/218
The Bay over 40's Div 3 side fronted on Sunday to play Loganholme. Initially we had 13 named but lost Captain Matt Cunningham prior to the game due to a rib cartilage injury which during the day changed to a broken rib followed by two broken ribs before finally landing on 4 broken ribs. He is expected to be available on Saturday after a miracle recovery no doubt.
Bay won the toss and elected to bat and after a decent opening stand succumbed to our second game and potentially season ending injury to Chris Tully who was on a run a ball 29 when he appeared to be shot by a sniper mid run and had to leave the field on 29*. His opening partner Sean Sandford himself recovering from a season ending knee injury followed a ball or so later for 23. Jim Phillips and Murray Peirce attempted to rebuild the innings before Jim missed a straight one to be out for 4. Bob Menzies came in and both he and Murray had a decent partnership before Bob played a silly shot and got out a ball before drinks for 18.
Murray went on to retire on 52 only to be subject to batting advise from Travis Harker on Monday morning after he himself had failed to get a bat after being named number 12 in the other 40's line-up. Further contributions came from Greg Ryan 15, Darren Redmayne 25* and Arran Canning 16* with special mention to Alan Smith for his 8 off 28 balls. We finished with 6/216 which was a defendable score.
After lunch we set about defending the total, but Loganholme managed to pass the score in the last over of the day. The side battled hard and suffered a third injury when MD did his groin after returning to Cricket after 20+ years and deciding to play both Saturday and Sunday which in hindsight may not have been the best idea. We managed to drop a number of catches including one by the acting Captain Bob off co-captain Jim which can best described as easy all being it there is now a large bruise on Bob's chest much to the amusement of Sean (Paws) Sandford. Pick of the bowlers were Darren Redmayne/Michael Leow who went wickless but bowled well, MD 1-30, Arran Canning 1-43 and Bob 1-23 along with Jim who should have had a wicket.
The fact that it took them till the last over to win was a great effort considering our team contained 5 players over 60, a number of other players over 50, 3 injured players and Sean Sandford.
Women’s Pink Diamonds

Runaway Bay Pink Diamonds vs Surfers Paradise – Rescheduled Round 3 Match Report
Under bright skies and good vibes, Surfers won the toss and sent our Pink Diamonds in to bat — and off we went!
Batting Highlights Kirsten and Bec got us off to a cracking start, making 14 and 23 respectively off 14 balls each. Kelly followed and had an absolute day out, smashing a PB of 27 runs off 14 balls! Everyone else in the order faced 13 balls and added beautifully to the total: • Sonia chipped in a strong 18 • Emily kept it moving with 13 • First-year cricketers Tracy and Lori both hit new PBs, with 17 for Tracy and 10 for Lori — outstanding efforts! • Gaylene and Faith brought us home with 11 and 7 respectively All up, the Pink Diamonds put together 140 runs and had 6 out. ⸻
Bowling & Fielding Effort After drinks, we hit the field with great energy. Tracy kicked things off, finishing with 0/25 off 2 overs. Sonia backed up with a tight spell of 0/8 off 2 — tidy, tidy, tidy! Bec delivered 0/11 off 2, Emily was bowling so well she earned an extra over, finishing with 1/14 off 4 and taking out our team’s Player of the Day — brilliant bowling, Emily, absolutely deserved. Kelly kept superbly behind the stumps and teamed up with Emily for a sharp run-out, while also bowling 0/23 off 3. Kirsten contributed 0/18 off 2, and Gaylene claimed the only other wicket, bowling the batter and finishing with a PB of 1/19 off 2 — well done! Lori bowled 0/20 off 2, and Faith rounded out the innings with 0/7 off her over. Surfers batted strongly, finishing with 148 runs, and only 2 out. To top it off, Sonia was awarded Player of the Day by the Surfers ladies — a wonderful acknowledgement of her tidy bowling and strong all-round game! ⸻
Team Spirit Although the win didn’t go our way — 150 to Surfers’ 178 — we walked off proud. Three new PBs with the bat, a new PB for Gaylene with the ball, Emily as our Player of the Day, and Sonia recognised by the opposition — an incredible reflection of our team’s effort and sportsmanship. A massive thank you to Coach Gareth for guiding us, Brad for umpiring, Hugo for helping score, and Bec for filling in so we could field a full team. Big appreciation to the Surfers ladies for a fun, friendly match and to our amazing support crew — your cheering genuinely lifts us. Well done, Pink Diamonds — another game full of grit, laughs, and team spirit!
