Under 11's Round 7 Under 12's - Opens Round 4 Day 1

🏏 Under 11’s

On Saturday the 16th of November, The Runaway Bay Seagulls U11 faced Coomera Hope Island Blue team. It was an overcast day, which helped keep the temperature cool.

We won the toss and elected to bat first. Jackson and Fletcher opened our batting and put on a stand out opening partnership. Jackson top scored for our team with 18 runs and Fletcher hit an impressive 15 runs. This was followed by Eshan(11) and Ryder(12), who continued the run-scoring gist. Ziggy (5) and Harrison (10) completed our batting lineup. When it was our turn to bowl, Fletcher and Ziggy took a wicket each. We also ran out 4 of the opposition batsman. Ryder and Jackson did a good job at keeping the wickets. We ended up on the losing side.

Fletcher was the Player of the match.

🏏 Under 12’s Orange

The under 12's Orange took on Coomera-Hope Island on the weekend with vice-captain Olive winning the toss and electing to bat. We once again reached our mini milestone of batting through the first 25 overs. Archie and Maggie were safe as houses with the bat facing  43 and 42 balls respectively. Nash and Harry played great shots and were unfortunate to be run out prior to really packing on some runs. Big hitting Hudson showed us all that he can batten down the hatches surviving 27 balls whilst still playing some incredibly strong shots.

We ended the day at 6 / 99 with Hugo and Lachlan at the crease to start us up on day 2.

Everyone bowled really well, however a few lapses in concentration let the pesky Extras creep up to 36. I think the next mini milestone we will focus on as a team will be to get this below 20.

Nash and Hudson (wicket keeper) provided us with our first ever stumping, and Hugo, Harry, Maggie and Hudson all taking wickets leaving Coomera-Hope Island at 6 / 94.

Its going to be a nail biting day 2!

We lost the toss and were sent to have a crack with the bat. Alberton bowled well and kept the pressure on. A great innings from Kade and Benji kept the runs ticking over. Congrats Kade on another well earned 50. Conditions were tough with some rain around early in the innings, this was a great challenge for our batters.

Our innings in the field was pretty good. The boys had Alberton 6  wickets down at the drinks break. Alberton managed to hang around and bat out the remainder of the 25 overs 9/82.

This sets us up for a good challenge next week. We will continue to work on our bowling length and building pressure in the field.

Really good for the boys to miss a couple of opportunities in the field this week, it’s a great way to learn that these things happen and it’s important to look forward and try create another.

Thanks to everyone for making it happen.

After a strong start to the season with 3 wins from 3 games, we hosted Queens (who are also 3 from 3) on Loxton 2 for what we expect to be a good test of where we are as a team. Queens won the toss and elected to bat which worked well for us as we wanted to have a bowl with a few clouds around.

Alex and Quaid opened the bowling for us this week and were followed by Aidan and Radin as Queens took their time to get going. Whilst they weren’t scoring many runs quickly, we were a bit loose with the ball and in the field and the extras were starting to pile up. We eventually managed to get the breakthrough with Harrison removing their opening bat caught and bowled, and our second wicket came shortly after with some tidy work in the field from Adam running out their other opener.

Some tidy middle over bowling from Ollie, Radin and Mac reduced Queens to 5-80 from 33 overs and we looked well in control. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to capitalize on this position as we continued to produce some errors in the field and couldn’t quite execute our plans with the ball. Queens benefitted from some good lower order hitting to scramble to a very competitive total for 8/171 which was boosted by 30 runs in extras and another 20 or so in misfields. It will be a tricky run chase, but we have the batters to get it done and we will focus on batting long at training this week.

Whilst it was a below par effort from us on day 1, we had some standout performances:

- Adam bowled exceptionally well in his first game for Div3 finishing with 0/9 from his 4 overs.

- Mac bowled and fielded exceptionally well finishing with 1/26 from 7 overs.

- Radin was outstanding picking up 2/15 from 7 overs and a great catch in the deep.

Area’s we need to improve on:

- Getting the new ball back to the bowler on the full(!!)

- Bowling in the channel and building the pressure.

- Remaining switched on in the field and getting down to the ball.

- Pro-active field placements and plugging the gaps to the bigger hitters.

Thanks to the parents and coaches for getting there early and setting up the ground, see you all next week. Go Bay!

This week's home game against Broadbeach on Sam Loxton 1 proved to be an exciting challenge. Jake won the toss and, considering the recent rainfall, opted to bowl first. Stevie and Jake set the tone with their opening spells, maintaining a tight line and keeping the run rate in check.

Will's short but impactful spell yielded the first wicket, thanks to a sharp catch by Hamish Murdoch. The bowling remained disciplined, with Will, Toby, and Hamish C continuing to apply pressure. Hamish managed to claim the second wicket, leaving Broadbeach at 2/62 after 23 overs. At this point, we were optimistic about restricting them to under 150.

However, Broadbeach demonstrated resilience, forming solid partnerships and accelerating their run rate in the latter part of the innings. Despite Toby and Stevie each claiming a wicket, Broadbeach finished strongly at 4/193 after 50 overs. While the final score exceeded our initial expectations, it wasn't due to poor bowling or fielding. Rather, a combination of well-placed shots and some fortunate gaps.

Next week presents an excellent opportunity for our team to showcase their batting skills. We've been focusing on playing sensible cricket shots and capitalising on loose deliveries. If we can bat through the full 50 overs, we stand a great chance of securing a victory.

Hamish Murdoch earned the Player of the Day honors for his outstanding catch and tireless efforts in the outfield. His performance exemplified the dedication and skill we'll need to bring into our upcoming matches.
