Under 11's Round 17 Under 12's - Opens Round 10 Day 1

🏏 Under 11’s

On the 22nd of February 2025, the Runaway Bay Seagulls U11 faced the Helensvale Green team at Sam Loxton 4. Eshan captained the team. We won the bat flip and opted to field first.

All our bowlers bowled economically and we did not concede any boundaries. Harrison and Eshan took a wicket each. Eshan and Callum kept wickets and did a good job. Callum got a run out.

Fletcher and Callum opened the batting for us and scored 8 and 7 respectively. Ryder (6), Ziggy (3), Eshan (8) and Harrison (6) contributed in the middle overs. The last batting pair of Reuben (12) and Harry (9) looked very organised. Reuben scored the only boundary of the match.

We lost far too many wickets and it cost us the match.

Reuben was adjudged the POTM for his batting and economical bowling display.

We took on Coomera Hope Island Blue in an exciting Day 1 clash that saw some solid performances with both bat and ball. We lost the toss and Coomera decided to have a bat first. It was a rather good call as Runaway Bay 3 was again looking immaculate with the outfield dry and fast. Lachie has been fanatically practising his bowling over the last month and boy has it paid off. He opened the bowling and took a first over wicket and ended the day at 1/5 off 3 overs. Hugo (1/4 off 4 ), Archie (1/8 off 4) and Olive (1/17 of 3) all took wickets with Coomera at 4/83 off their first 25 overs. Extras were costly this week, giving Coomera 25 free runs.

Things werent looking to crash hot early with Archie and Lachie both falling cheaply to balls from Shiv Patel that would have had Boonie walking. Harry stood firm and played some great defensive cricket making a crucial 9 off 31 balls turning the innings around back in our favour. A crucial middle-order partnership between Hugo (22 off 43) and Jackson (16* off 38) further stabilised the innings. Hugo again instilled fear on the leg side with the Coomera crew becoming rattled and stacking square to fine leg with 3 bodies. Crowd (and teammate) favourite Jackson was impressive with the bat, further frustrating the bowlers effortlessly blocking anything on the stumps and punishing anything down leg. We snuck to 80 runs after losing 5 wickets with Hudson (3* off 30) and Jackson at the crease heading into Day 2.

We lost the toss and were sent in to bat. The boys did well and showed some patience on a low scoring outfield.

With wickets up our sleeve we were able to lean on our bowling and build pressure, keeping Mudgees run rate to a minimum.

We played to our plan really well. Really proud of the boys effort.

Bring on week 2.

With only 2 games of the regular season remaining, Aidan continued his freakish consistency of losing the toss and we were put into bat (which was our preference anyway). Aidan made his way to the middle with Lucy and they got us off to a steady start, with Aidan in particular looking very comfortable against the new ball. Lucy who has been in incredible form of late, couldn’t continue her purple patch today and was out for 7 from 22 trying to go over the top to the spinner. Radin came in at 3 this week and hit the ground running to keep piling on the runs with Aidan smacking the ball to all parts and running the 1’s and 2’s hard.

In the 14th over we were cruising, but a mix up in the middle left both Aidan and Dinny at the non-strikers end and unfortunately for Aidan, he was on his way back to the sheds for a very fluent 31 from 40. Today definitely looked like it was Aidan’s day to go big and that big score isn’t far away. Ollie was next in at #4 in the familiar position of the game being in the balance at 2-60 where another wicket would have given Broady a strong foot hold. Ollie was solid in defence and Dinny continued to find the boundary as the boys pushed the score passed 100. In the 25th over Ollie mis-timed a cover drive which was well caught by a one handed leap from Broady’s cover fielder and Callum (1 from 9) was also out cheaply after chopping on. At 4-107 the game was again very evenly poised but Catey (11 from 38) did a great job to settle things down and provide good support to Radin as he brought up another milestone on his way to 51* from 67 balls. Great knock buddy!

Harry came in at #7 and looked in awesome form as he saw off the pace bowlers and used his feet to the spinners with great effect hitting 2 fours on his way to 25 from 48. After a couple of disappointing weeks, it was great to see Haz back to his best. Quaid found the boundary twice on his way to 11 from 24 but was unlucky to be runout as he was starting to go through the gears. Mac (2 from 5) and Alex (3 from 5) both tried to take the game on late in the innings and it was great to see Adam score his first run for the Div3 team finishing 1* from 2.

We closed out the innings on 9/187 with Radin, Aidan and Harry all showing exceptional stroke play. A special mention to Ollie, Catey and Quaid who all read the game situation perfectly to offer support and putting a high value on their wickets. Another day, another very strong performance from this group. Well done team!

This week for the indigenous round, our team faced Queens at home on Sam Loxton 1. Despite initial plans to bat, the heavy overnight rain and damp pitch conditions led to a change in strategy. After winning the toss for the second consecutive week, our captain Jake opted to bowl first.

Queens, a formidable opponent sitting in the top 4 of the league and known for their strong batting lineup, having scored over 250+ runs on three occasions this season, were put to the test by our bowlers.

Jake and Stevie opened the bowling attack with precision and control. Stevie claimed the first wicket in the 7th over, with Jake taking a sharp catch to dismiss Queens' first opener. Jake followed up in the next over, removing the other opener, leaving Queens at 2-18.

A brief partnership between Queens' number 3 and 4 batsmen was cut short when Hamish C entered the attack. In a remarkable spell, Hamish took three quick wickets in his first four overs. Two more excellent catches by Jake at short cover and a sharp take behind the stumps by Flynn left Queens reeling at 5-54 after 22 overs.

AJ contributed to the bowling effort, claiming another wicket caught behind by Flynn, further reducing Queens to 6-58. The introduction of Noah McQueen to the attack proved decisive as he claimed three wickets in just three overs. One batsman was bowled, while Aiden at mid-off and AJ in the deep took catches for the other two dismissals. Queens were now struggling at 9-76 in the 33rd over.

At this point, an unfortunate incident occurred. The umpire awarded Queens 10 penalty runs due to excessive chatter from the slips cordon, despite previous warnings. Let's hope that this decision doesn't impact the outcome of the match.

Queens' last wicket partnership showed resilience, adding 43 runs before Stevie returned to claim the final wicket. Queens finished with a total of 109, plus the 10 penalty runs, setting a target of 120 for our team.

The fielding performance was exceptional, with the team taking almost every chance that came their way. Jake's catches were particularly noteworthy, and it was unanimously agreed to be the best fielding display of the season so far.

The spin bowlers excelled, with Hamish C finishing with figures of 3/21 from 8 overs and Noah McQueen recording very impressive figures of 3/5 from 4 overs. Stevie (2/30 from 8 overs), Jake (1/22 from 8 overs), and AJ (1/14 from 6 overs) also contributed significantly to the bowling effort.

With Queens dismissed in the 41st over, our team faced a challenging 7-over spell before the close of play. In a tactical change from previous matches (having failed to chase the totals in the last two games), James and Joe opened the batting. They started confidently against Queens' opening pace attack. However, when Queens introduced spin, Joe fell for 4, mistiming a full toss to mid-wicket. Stevie joined James at the crease, and together they navigated the remaining overs, finishing the day at 1/16.

Next week, our team will need to score 104 runs to secure victory. After falling short in our last two run chases, the team is determined to succeed on this third attempt and clinch a much-needed win.
