Round 1 11/10/2025
Under 10’s
Last Friday saw our young Seagulls take to Loxton #1 for their first game of the season under lights. What a great start to the season, with some experiencing their first ever cricket game. One of our Cap-a-tarns Lara won the bat toss of roofs n flats, and decided to send the other team in on a proper green top!
Both Bay teams put on a show with the ball finding the boundary plenty of times, which ended up being an exciting game for parents and spectators - and was also streamed for our diehard fans (Grannies and Pops).
Notable performances came from Finn, Jack, and Charlie with the bat, taking on the white ball with some hard hitting! Wyatt showed a promising spell of pace, along with our young gun Neil who not only bowled heat, but also shocked the crowd with a few handy run outs! Hudson and Spencer showed safe hands - both taking catches under lights and celebrating like they’ve just secured a Big Bash final! All in all an entertaining game of Cricket, with both teams ready to take on the competition this coming Friday!

Day 1 Bay vs Maulers
So good to be back playing cricket!
Heap of new faces in the group, the boys worked together really well. Really impressed and can’t wait to see what they can build from here.
We started the day with the bat. Although nerves were high our openers batters Kade and Ollie stood up and took on the challenge. The goal was the weather the first couple of overs and take the pressure off the following batsmen.
Some good bowling got a wicket in the 3rd over. Zach came in and got the run rate rolling. Another wicket fell to a great catch and Benji came in. Kade a Benji steadied and built a solid partnership which continued to the 24th over. Josh stepped up hitting some cracking shots early however fell to a fantastic catch.
Archie came to the crease, both Kade and Archie used their talk to settle the nerves. Archie settled and kept the strike rotating.
More good bowling got a wicket in the 27th and Harry came in with a monster grin on his face. The boys settled, keeping the innings rolling nicely. Kade got to his 60! He was able to retire for a well earned rest. Alfie in next, bit of advice from Harry and the pair kept chipping away. Congrats Alfie on your first 4!
Another wicket fell and retired batter Kade returned. The Quilty bowling continued and another wicket fell. Our re batters did a great job supporting Kade and the runs continued. We finished the day all out for 206. Great effort.
Congrats Kade on a solid 91! Spent a heap of time out in the middle, great work.
We set some goals and nailed them this week. Batting for time allows the runs to come and the extras build. To bat out nearly 48 overs in our first game is a solid effort.
Player of the match went to Kade and the sparms award to Alfie. Well done.
We get a crack with the ball next week. Big challenge to spend a full day in the field but the boys are up for it! Minimising the extras, voice and bowling pressure will be the focus this week. Can’t wait!! Get those arms warmed up!!
Welcome to all the new faces, was a great morning of cricket! Thanks to everyone for making it happen. Sarah Benson, thanks for getting the important stuff sorted and Jamos the snack spread was on point!!

Open Turf Division 1

Clinical Bowling Display Sees Runaway Bay Seagulls Dismantle Burleigh for 140
The Runaway Bay Seagulls Opens Division 1 side delivered a disciplined and relentless bowling performance to bowl out Burleigh for just 140 in 49.5 overs, securing a commanding position for day 1 of their Round 1 fixture. On a surface offering just enough for the bowlers, the Seagulls’ attack hunted in pairs, maintaining pressure from both ends and sharing the wickets evenly.
Watson Leads with Accuracy and Control
Left arm seamer Stephen Watson set the tone early, operating with trademark discipline. Bowling a full and probing length, Watson removed key top-order batter Christian McMah with a beautiful delivery that clipped the stumps, before returning late to dismiss Noah Kerry, finishing with outstanding figures of 2/7 from 6.5 overs, including three maidens. His control strangled Burleigh’s scoring rate, allowing the pressure to mount through the innings. Watson also contributed to a run-out to remove Miles King.
Francesconi Finishes the Job
At the other end of the innings, A.J. Francesconi capped off the effort with a devastating late spell, cleaning up the tail to end with 2/5 from 5 overs, including three maidens. His precise line and late movement made scoring impossible, as Burleigh managed just one scoring shot off his final three overs. Francesconi’s spell ensured Burleigh never recovered from their middle-order collapse.
Rogers and Hoare Strike in Tandem
Change bowlers Quaid Rogers (2/8 off 5) and Taika Hoare (2/25 off 6) provided the key breakthroughs through the middle overs. Rogers, accurate and patient, claimed the vital wickets of Thomas Browse and Josh Hingle, both caught trying to force the pace. Hoare was equally effective, striking twice — first bowling Cooper McNee to break an early stand, and later removing Joshua Kelley with a sharp return catch to stall any momentum Burleigh tried to build.
Support Spells and Fielding Excellence
The Seagulls’ depth was on full display, with captain Jake Schultz (7 overs, 3 maidens, 0/13) leading by example through relentless accuracy. was instrumental in maintaining pressure that created opportunities at the other end.
Hamish Canning (6–1–22–0) and Noah McQueen (7–0–29–1) offered strong support, both beating the bat frequently and building dot-ball pressure. McQueen’s reward came with the wicket of Jed Robinson, bowled by a delivery that nipped back off the seam.
In the field, the Seagulls were sharp and committed — Flynn Richardson, William Altass, Aidan Long, and Taika Hoare each claimed clean catches.
A Complete Bowling Effort
The Seagulls’ performance was a masterclass in teamwork and execution:
10 wickets shared among five bowlers
11 maidens in total
Just 140 runs conceded across nearly 50 overs
Every bowler played their role, from the tight opening spells of Watson and Schultz to the clinical finishing of Francesconi. It was the kind of display that wins games — built on accuracy, patience, and relentless pressure.
Captain’s Comments – Jake Schultz
“That was one of our most complete bowling efforts from this team,” said captain Jake Schultz after the match. “Everyone stuck to their plans, bowled to their fields, and backed each other up in the field. We built pressure for long periods, and the wickets came naturally. The energy was excellent right through to the 50th over — that’s the standard we want to set every week.”

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
