Under 10’s Orange vs Coomera Heat

For the last game of 2025, the Runaway Bay Orange Under 10’s were drawn to play against Coomera Hope Island Heat at Loxton 1.  We were missing Zac who is now without adenoids and Neil is still overseas for a while but we’ve made it to the half way mark without too many dramas. A perfect team of eight means that the coach doesn’t have to think too much about rotating players off the field, and everyone bats 15 balls unless, that is, if the opposition shows up without a coach or umpire. So the coach was left confused anyway… Birthday Boy Charlie (Happy 9th Birthday Charlie!!!) with a badge and candy canes for his teammates to prove it, was our Captain today and he didn’t crumble under the pressure. After a perfect bat toss, Coomera called hills, won the toss and batted because they only had 5. Abhi’s younger brother was in the crowd and happily filled in for Coomera to give them 6.

Charlie’s bowling line up worked like magic and after everyone had bowled once, we had them restricted to 35 off 48 balls.  More tight bowling followed, but there weren’t a lot of wickets tonight, but not a lot of runs conceded either.  Lucas led the way with 2/7 off his 3 overs and Mr Reliable Elijah, James, and Lucius all got a wicket each.  Off their 20 overs, Coomera were on the brink after losing 5 wickets on the way to a sub-par total of 82.

Our fielding was more of the same, and in an effort to not sound like a broken record, the Orange Bay Boys were excellent once again.  Charlie and Lucius took a nice catch each, and Yaqub took his first for the year, even with the distraction of staring into the lights it stuck perfectly in his grippers and there were high 5’s all round.  James backed up last week’s effort and claimed another run out and an almost catch. One will stick soon James, just keep putting your hands in the right area…

In our chase, it was another even batting effort with almost everyone hitting double figures. Lucius led the way, feasting on boundaries, scoring 37 runs and our skipper, as he always does, knocked up 34 of his own. Abhi’s brother managed to skittle Charlie’s stumps with a cracker amid some good accurate bowling.  He was lining up big brother as well but missed out on bragging rights, as it ended pretty even between the 2 opposing siblings. Elijah and Billy both scored over 20 and James, Lucas and Abhi all made double figures.  Lucius found it hard to run overthrows this week because he hit too many boundaries, which, as he found out, is a much easier and more fun way to score runs.

Another good win by the Orange Bay boys, everyone contributed, plenty of great attitudes and the hard work at training is really paying off in our games.  This week’s Player of the Match was Lucas, who after knocking on the door last week with the bat, moved the needle this week with the ball with a miserly spell and leading the wicket takers including another bowled wicket this week. Also thanks again to the players who backed up in the field for Coomera, it’s not always fun to do this, but it gives us another opportunity to work on our skills and discipline.

So that’s it for 2025, what a year it’s been.  We’ve seen plenty of growth in the players and the attitudes are contagious trying to improve all aspects of the game.  Our first game back is on January 23rd, and official training will probably start the Tuesday before or the one before that. Until then, let’s all try to get down to the club this Friday from 6pm for the Runaway Bay CC Christmas Party, I think even the fat man in the red suit is making an appearance, so I hope to see you all there.

Well done again boys, Go The Bay!

Regards,

Andrew Millar

Under 10’s Navy

This week we hosted Coomera renegades. Lara lead our team and after the toss we were sent in to bat by the opposition….. Big mistake from the away team, as our players are prone to dropping a big total when batting first…… fair to say our little tribe did just that.

Our left / right opening pair put on an incredible display of big hitting, with Finn leading the charge with 49 runs, and with his partner Spencer finding the rope on multiple occasions with great technique and a personal high score just shy of 30! Collectively these two lads put together almost 80 runs, which in some games this year has been the total score for some sides. The batting frenzy continued with great running between wickets and hitting from all 7 Bats, totalling a monster score not far off the 200 mark.

Bowling was tight and again Lara proved to be hard to get away. Spencer turned a few off the deck making it hard for the Batsmen to work away. His handy contribution with the ball and hard hitting with the bat made him the obvious choice for our player of the match.

Huddy, Jack, Carter and Owen all played their part with both ball and bat and again our spectators witnessed some great catches, and fielding!

Well done Navy seagulls with a big win to cap the year off!!!

Under 11’s

Under 11s On Saturday we went to St Stephens college to play Coomera, the ground was immaculate and the boundaries huge. Sadie was the captain the bat toss was done and we lost and were sent to have a bowl and just like that the bay team were up and about from the get go, for me I think this was the best we have bowled as a team all season and that set the tone for out fielding as well, Reuben opened up bowing a great 2 overs for 4 followed by Callum who got 2-13 off his 3 Sadie next on and lead by example bowling an excellent spell 1-9 off 3 Ziggy followed and unfortunately had to go off with a knee injury but managed 0-11 off 2 Which bought on a fill in being none other that O DOG hazzas younger brother who has not long turned 7, He bowled his 2 overs 1-3 bowling well above his years, Alex bowled his leggys catching the batter out with his quicker ball Alex having figures 1-14 off 3 overs Hazza came on after a superstar effort as wicketkeeper bowling 2 overs 1-4, A special mention to Vansh he as been practicing his bowling and it shows as he bowled his 3 overs 3-9 taking his first wicket for the season, Another mention to Reuben who wicket kept for the first time and done an amazing job, So as we prepared to bat Vansh’s dad bought the team icecreams on this hot Saturday morning which went down a treat thanks, Harry and Sadie opened the batting, with the field being so big the game plan was to run hard between the wickets and call loud, both harry and Sadie done this really well with Sadie ending 16 not out and Harry 11 Vansh and Ziggy were next in the also both ran well Vansh ending on 14 and ziggy 12 not out Alex was next in Hitting a lovely 4 off his 3rd ball but alex’s running between the wickets and his awareness really stood out he finished 13 not out. Callum and Reuben were next in these two were really Insync with each other and there running, calling and cricket awareness was impeccable both these lads finished up on 21 a piece, The cricket this team played on Saturday shows they are not just a good cricket team but good mates it is so good to be a part of. Under 13’s Div 2

This week's game Ruanway Bay Orange 13s div 2 took on Palm Beach Purple at Loxton 3.

In a clinical display of cricket, Runaway Bay Seagulls U13 Div 2 secured a massive victory over Palm Beach U13 Purple. Our bowling attack proved too much for Palm Beach restricting them to 8 for 56. We chased and scored a formidable total of 8-174 from our 25 overs.

 * Result: Runaway Bay won by 118 runs

 Batting: Runaway Bay Seagulls

The Seagulls' innings was headlined by a spectacular "retired" performance from Hugo, who anchored the team with a blistering 75 off just 41 balls*, including 10 boundaries and a six. His massive 6 brought up his 50 and also 500 runs with Runaway Bay!! Great effort!!

 Great batting performances include:

| Hugo - 75* off 41

| Fletcher - 21 off 32

| Charlie - 11 off 14

| Nash - 10 off 15

When it was time to field, the Seagulls' bowlers maintained incredible discipline, with several players conceding fewer than 3 runs per over. The standout with the ball was Hugo , completing an incredible all-round match by taking 3 wickets for only 2 runs off 3 overs.

 Great bowling performances include:

| Hugo - 3/2 off 3 overs

| Hudson - 1/2 off 3 overs

| Nash - 0/1 off 3 overs

| Charlie - 1/8 off 3 overs

| Maggie - 1/7 off 3

 Key Highlights

 * The Collett Show: Hugo's  75 runs and 3 wickets made him the clear Player of the Match.

 * Tight Bowling: Nash and Hudson combined for 4 maiden overs, suffocating the Palm Beach run rate early on.

 * Team Effort: Fletcher  who retired facing his 30 balls and Charlie  provided crucial middle-order support to push the total past 170.

Day 2 Mudgee v Runaway bay 13 Div 1

Great challenge for the boys to defend a total against a very competitive Mudgee side.

We started the day strong with a wicket to Robert early with an edge to Kade.

Mudgee proved stubborn and put and an impressive 130 partnership. The next wicket fell to a great catch from Jacko off Harry. The energy shifted. Two more fell to well pitched deliveries to Kade and Archie. We never gave up and two more fell to a tricky catch from Ollie off Cooper. Alfie finished the day with a bowled wicket.

Really impressed the boys continued to fight even once Mudgee reached our score. The points gained from extra wickets can often prove important later in the year. It was a great way to get extra practise in a game situation.

Shout out to the full in helpers. Evan, Sammy and Jacko. You all did really well especially the younger fellas in what I think was there first game of cricket.

Highlight of the day was our determination to never give up and an absolutely great moment for Jacko taking that catch! The way the team got around him was very special.

Thanks guys for making it happen

Craig and Chris.

Runaway Bay Seagulls Opens Div 1 – Day 2 Match Report

Relentless pressure and a Schultz masterclass seal a cracking win!

The Runaway Bay Seagulls delivered an all-round performance on Day 2, bowling Coomera Hope Island out for 164 in 43.5 overs to secure a deserved victory after posting 206 on Day 1.

From the opening exchanges, the Seagulls applied unrelenting pressure. Stephen Watson set the tone with a superb opening spell, delivering over after over of disciplined, dot-ball bowling that made scoring extremely difficult. At the other end, skipper Jake Schultz brought intensity and control, immediately asking questions of the Coomera batters.

The early breakthrough came when Schultz removed Darsh Patel, before the Seagulls continued to strike at key moments.

.Tight spells from Altass, Francesconi, Hoare, Rogers and McQueen ensured the run rate remained firmly in check.

Momentum swung decisively when A.J. Francesconi claimed crucial middle-order wickets, including Liam Doyle and Aaron Moraes, with Flynn Richardson taking two sharp catches to maintain the pressure.

However in the middle session Coomera got on a roll increasing their run rate, while the Bay team dropped their shoulders in the field.  There was no running in with the bowler, poor field placement, dropped catches and a general lacklustre attitude, letting Coomera back in the game.

At the final drinks break with a real risk of losing the game, enter El Présidente, Travis Harker. He delivered a true Bay speech to the team - reminded them who they were and who they play for! With new found enthusiasm the team went back to the field for the final session.  The change was immediate. The defining moment came not long after when Jake Schultz removed the dangerous Wigmore for 85, caught by Stephen Watson. From there, the Seagulls surged home, with Schultz producing a devastating final spell to rip through the tail and finishing with an incredible 6/22. The match ended in emphatic fashion as Schultz bowled the final two batsmen, sealing the innings at 164.

Support was outstanding across the park, highlighted by:

  • Stephen Watson: 10 overs, 3 maidens, 1/24

  • A.J. Francesconi: 2/22 with key middle-order breakthroughs

  • Hamish Canning: crucial wicket and strong energy

  • Flynn Richardson: 2 excellent catches

  • Strong contributions from, Altass, Hoare, Rogers and McQueen

Coomera were dismissed 42 runs short of the Bays total, completing a dominant two-day performance from the Seagulls built on patience, pressure and teamwork.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH – Jake Schultz (Captain)

A comeback performance to remember

Returning to the bowling crease after missing several matches through injury, Jake Schultz produced an inspirational captain’s performance when it mattered most.

Bowling with pace, accuracy and confidence, Schultz finished with outstanding figures of 6/22 from 8.5 overs, completely turning the match in Runaway Bay’s favour.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Over 40’s Div 3

Over 40's Division 3,  RBCC 6/237 - Def  - Helensvale 8/235

The Bay Over 40's Div 3 side travelled to a stinking hot and fast Helensvale for their clash with Helensvale on Sunday.  Matt lost the toss and Helensvale elected to bat first.

Helensvale got off to a great start and lost their first wicket at 93 before eventually finishing up at 235 off their 40 overs.  Pick of the bowlers was Michael LEOW who bowled very well for his 1-37 off 7.  Other bowlers to get wickets included Jason Hay 1-37 off 7, Greg Bird 2-47 off 7, Alan Smith 2-23 off 4 and Bob Menzies 2-44 off 7.  Colin Wakefield bowled the last over of the innings and was told by the Helensvale batsmen that he was too slow.   Helensvale ended up at 235 off their 40 overs which was a more than competitive total and it would be a challenge to chase down.  The heat and humidity was now at increasing rapidly after a small rain shower had the heat coming up from the ground.

After lunch the Bay set about the chase with Gary Copeland 19 off 21 and Sean Sandford 49 off 55 setting up a good foundation followed by an explosive Greg Bird 50 retired from 41 balls.  Colin and Jason came and went followed by Murray Peirce before Bob Menzies 53* off 47 and Lee Greenwood 14 off 21 almost got us to the total prior to Lee getting out.  Arran Canning then came out to watch the winning runs hit by Bob who by then was ready for a cold drink and was looking like he had already had a shower prior to the game finishing.

Our thanks to the players that filled in and also best wishes to both Greg and Sean who are scheduled for knee operations this week.  All in all a good day played against a good opposition.
