Under 11's Round 2 Under 12's - Opens Round 1 Day 2
🏏 Under 11’s
This week we played Queens. Harrison and Ziggy shared the player of the match award for their all-round performances. They took two wickets each and also contributed with the bat. Fletcher and Jackson did a good job keeping wickets. We lost the match by a close margin.
So far, the bowlers have kept the extras to a minimum
while bowling with round arm action. The batters in general are still finding their rhythm and will improve with each game. Overall the team atmosphere and parental support has been top class.

The U12’s Orange team with another thoroughly enjoyable day of cricket.
With Archie away, Hugo stepped in as captain and showed his maturity and prowess for the game by changing up the bowling order into rotating pairs of 2 overs each.
Limited to 7 in the field, the kids kept their composure leaving Helensvale with a first innings score of 9/163 (50 overs). Well done to Olive who ended up with 3 wickets (c&b, c&b, b). The girls finished off our first innings on Day 2 leaving us with 10/69 (27.3 overs).
We would like to give a massive thanks to the Helensvale Gold crew who threw on an after-match BBQ for all to enjoy.

Magic morning up on the mountain.
We started the day with the bat to finish off our first innings. Our openers manage to retire not out after an early stint. Southport continued to build pressure and our batters were challenge, we settled in nicely. Wickets came to good quality balls or tidy catches. We have a great platform to build on.
As Southport worked through our batting it gave the chance for our retired batters to return. This created an opportunity for the boys to have a crack at 50. They had a fair bit of work to do but both boys remained composed, stuck it out and both managed to jag their 50. This is a huge achievement for the boys but it can’t be done without them team behind them.
Massive shout out to Will, he retired early allowing Jude to come in. He ended up coming back in to finish off the innings, being the support batter for both boys. Both boys will return the favour I’m sure.
Evan opened the bowling, laying a platform for all the bowlers to follow. Southport were stubborn and forced the boys to remain patient. It really highlighted the importance of building pressure, when we’re consistent and up and about in the field the wickets eventually come.
Our second innings gives us a great foundation for the make team and individual plan’s.
Fantastic way to start the season.

After a week of wild weather, we arrived back down at Eleanora finding a damp but very playable ground
Fletcher and Joshua resumed the innings however Fletcher found himself victim to a good ball falling for one. Charlie’s pre-game nerves were still high, but he went in with confidence and we could his smile grow with every ball faced. unfortunately he fell for one also. Tanya and Adam failed to trouble the scorers and Lincoln added one as well. We were in a bit of trouble with one wicket remaining. Mikel was sent out with instructions that he and Josh were to bat the day out. The boys certainly did the job required punishing the bad balls and accumulating the extras. 47 for Joshua who fell on the second last ball of the day and 13 for Mikel gave us a healthy 90 run lead to defend.
With 4 wickets down we opened with accuracy of Mikel and Spin of Captain Lucas. Mikel took the early breakthrough and the combination of pace and the slower deliveries work.
I made the decision to bowl Lucas out as at that stage he was 1/2 finishing with figures of 2/2. Lincoln replaced him and took another wicket but kept the same combinations going with Amber who was swinging the ball like never before.
At this stage we were well on top with Charlie, Lucas and Adam all with runouts we took first innings points before they scored 15 runs.
Outstanding effort by all with notable mentions to
Nikita for his first inning ever
Charlie for his 2 wickets and runout
Lucas with the bat and ball
And Joshua for his new highest score.
Also to the parents who scored and umpired, we couldn’t do it without you. Whose turn is it this week?

Today we came to Hession oval with a full side as Evan was back in action. We instantly noticed the pitch was a lot less green but had some soft, wet patches.
Quaid and Catey opened the bowling today and got us off to an awesome start. One of their openers was struggling to get off the mark, so we kept him on strike to build pressure. This pressure continued for about 7 overs until the openers had a mix up which caused a run out. I came on for a spell and got their other opener out. Alex then came on to have a bowl and did exceptionally well bowling tight lines and in the channel. Harry also bowled beautifully from the other end. Both put on so much dot ball pressure and eventually Harry got one of their best batters out to an absolute gem. After that, Helensvale then began to build a bit of a partnership. Enter Quaid who bowled a beautiful ball that took top of off and swung the momentum back our way. Next over Ollie got a wicket to a beautiful ball that made the batter creep forward to get him out stumped. Wickets were falling now. The new batter came in and wasn’t doing much. The guy at the other end though was playing well and hitting the odd four. Evan came into the attack and took a wicket with Alex taking a great catch at short 3rd man. We were into their tailenders now but the guy that was playing well was still in. The new batter came and went, with Alex bowling another peach to get rid of him. Another little partnership formed, but again we were quick to end it with Mac getting a crucial wicket late in the game. Mac didn’t stop there though taking their key batter shortly after with Ollie taking a neat catch to send him packing. One of their tailenders though was teeing off and made us a bit nervous in the final overs with Helensvale needing 25 runs in the last 5 overs to win the match. I dropped an absolute dolly which made the game even more tense. Luckily though, Catey bowled well in the death and their tailender had no choice but to go after it, skying one straight to me in deep mid-wicket to win the game.
We played well but we still have quite a few things to work on. It was good to beat Helensvale though and secure our first win of the season. Bring on Southport next week!
Thank you to Lewis and James for coaching us and to my dad for snacks.

Day 2: A Test of Resilience
The second day of our match against Bonogin presented a challenging target of 204 for victory. Our strategy was to simply bat the full 50 overs, believing it would be sufficient to secure the runs. However, the day unfolded quite differently from our expectations.
The match began with a devastating blow as Stevie fell victim to an unplayable delivery in the first over, the ball removing the bail from middle stump. This set a somber tone, and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. By 10:30 AM, we were all out for a mere 77 runs. Will Altass provided the only significant resistance with a commendable innings of 28.
Sensing an opportunity for an outright win, Bonogin sent us back in. The situation quickly became dire as we found ourselves at 5/27 by the eighth over. With just ten minutes remaining in the match, we were down to our last two wickets, and four minutes later, to our final wicket.
In a display of cool composure, Hamish Canning sauntered to the crease, engaging in casual conversation with fielders en route. He methodically prepared himself, putting on his helmet and gloves, asked for centre, faced a single delivery, and successfully blocked it as the clock struck 11:15 AM, avoiding an additional over and therefore narrowly averting an outright loss.
Noah's performance in the second innings was particularly noteworthy. Demonstrating remarkable discipline, he curbed his natural aggressive instincts and followed the coach's instructions to the letter. His patient defense resulted in an unbeaten 5 runs off 22 balls, playing a crucial role in saving us from an outright defeat.
While the overall team performance left much to be desired, there were several individual efforts worthy of praise. Noah McQueen was deservedly named Player of the Match for his three-wicket haul in the first innings and his resilience with the bat in the second.
Despite the disappointing outcome, the team showed character in adversity, providing valuable lessons for future encounters.
