Under 11's Round 10 Under 12's - Opens Round 5 Day 2

🏏 Under 11’s

The Saturday gone, our under 11's team took on Coomera Hope Island White team at their home ground. It was a fairly hot day. The opposition won the toss and asked us to bat. Both teams played with 5 players.

Ryder and Eshan were the opening pair. They negotiated the opposition bowling well and scored 8 and 19 runs respectively. Both the openers had to retire due to heat exhaustion. Ziggy and Fletcher were the next pair in. Ziggy looked confident and scored 13 runs. Fletcher decimated the opposition bowling line up and scored 41 runs. He hit six 4's in the process. Jackson was the last batsman for the team. He continued to put the opposition under pressure and scored 19 runs which included a four. Our team ended with 162 runs and conceded just 16 penalty runs.

We then restricted the opposition to a total of 118 runs. Each player bowled 4 overs. Jackson took 3 for 17, Fletcher 3 for 19 and Ziggy 1 for 18. Eshan got a run out and so did Jackson with Fletcher as the assist.

Fletcher was awarded the POTM award for his all-round performance.

It was a delight to see our team defeat the opposition comprehensively. Each team member is showing improvement in all aspects of the game and good camaraderie.

Runaway Bay and Mudgeeraba faced off in a thrilling 25-over cricket match that showcased determination and teamwork from both sides. We got away with the win in a dramatic finish, completing a well-earned chase.

First Innings: Mudgeeraba Posts 6-123

Ollie won the toss and elected to bowl first. The bowling attack started well, claiming early wickets and building pressure. The fielding effort was commendable, particularly with the team two players down. This challenge had the boys working extra hard in the field.

Although they seemed quiet from the sidelines, the players demonstrated an excellent understanding of their roles and the game plan. They also managed their energy wisely under the cooking heat of the day, staying focused and committed to their task. However, a few too many extras provided Mudgeeraba with some bonus runs, which will be an area for improvement going forward.

Despite these challenges, the boys restricted Mudgeeraba to a competitive 6-123 from their 25 overs, setting up a clear target for the chase.

Bowling and Fielding Highlights (Runaway Bay):

  • Early wickets created pressure on the opposition.

  • Exceptional effort in the field despite being two players down.

  • Players showed a strong understanding of their roles and game awareness.

  • Conserved energy well under challenging conditions.

  • Extras offered a learning opportunity.

Second Innings: Controlled Chase with Late Drama

Chasing 123, we started cautiously but kept the run rate consistently above the required target. Partnerships at key moments were vital, with the batters rotating strike effectively and finding boundaries when opportunities arose.

Two very tidy overs from Mudgeeraba in the 19th and 21st overs increased the pressure, leaving the batters needing to accelerate in the final three overs. During this tense period, a stroke of luck came our way when a top edge sailed over the bowler’s head and struck a helmet left behind the keeper, earning an unexpected five runs and providing a much-needed boost.

With composure and determination, we reached the target in the final over, finishing on 6-125 with three balls to spare. The team’s collective effort and resilience under pressure proved crucial in finishing strong.

Batting Highlights (Runaway Bay):

  • Partnerships ensured steady progress.

  • Run rate stayed above the target throughout.

  • Tight bowling from Mudgeeraba added late pressure.

  • A fortunate top edge added five vital runs.

  • Calm and calculated finish under pressure.

Result:

Runaway Bay 6-125 defeated Mudgeeraba 6-123 with 3 balls remaining.

The match was a fantastic display of teamwork, skill, and resilience. While reducing extras will be a focus moving forward, the team’s determination and ability to handle pressure were instrumental in this thrilling match. Congratulations to both teams for their spirited play and sportsmanship.

With day 1 more suited to swimming on the pitch than batting the game was reduced to one day format. This saw a different approach to our game plan and this immediately showed rewards.

We opened our bowling with the experience of Alex and Adam, Alex struggled with the change back to synth to get his line right but still kept it today going for 9, along with Adam with figures of 1/1 off 3 had us in prime position for thorn 0/3 Evan 1/4 and Charlie 1/11 to continue to build the pressure which saw them sub 30 at drinks. The challenge was set for those to come to keep it tidy and that they did with Amber 1/6 Mikel 0/2 Nikita 1/5 and Lucas 0/11. The final overs were thrown to Calum, not a noted bowler from his Div 3 time but he certainly showed his full capacity on the pitch with 2 overs, 2 wickets a maiden for only 2 runs Keeping Queens to sub 60 and finishing with 1 minute to spare.

We set the target of 3 runs per over and not telling the target so no one got over confident saw Lucas and Thorn open, Lucas at his usual hard hitting best fell to an uncharacteristic shot for 9 of 22 while thorn struggled to find his feet or the gaps before falling for 3 of 20 balls. Nikita send out to do what does best struggled against their attack and unfortunately fell for a duck and was understandably disappointed, Callum and Alex looked looked set with some exceptional calling before Callum 9/26 was unnecessarily run out. With Adam arriving at the crease knowing how many was required for victory wasted no time going at 90 strike rate for his 18/20, The running between the wickets of Adam and Alex is what all in the team should aspire to, turning 1s to 2s and quick calling saw the Target easily achieved with the day finishing with Alex 9/26* and Even 0* Unfortunately no penalty runs applied as they missed the marked bowling slow as it was one day format and we had already achieved the target.

With more one dayers to come with will shuffle those who missed a bat today up but this is a winning formula so will continue to roll it out as final are not out of the question for this great side

Today we had our first away game since round 1. It was a one-day game against Coomera after the first week was washed out. We arrived at Coomera’s home ground and instantly noticed a decent outfield. There was a slight bit of dew, so we agreed bowling first may be better. I went to do the toss (not expecting to win) and I won it again. I am now on a 2-game streak!! I chose to bowl, and we got things underway.

Tarnia and I opened the bowling today, with Tarnia bowling the first over, keeping it tidy. I then bowled the second over, taking the wicket of their opener with Dini securing a great catch at first slip. Tarnia then got their other opener out caught at mid-on to leave them struggling at 2-5. They then dig in and managed to get a little partnership going. This ended abruptly when Ollie and Harry came on. Harry took the first wicket to break the partnership, bowling the batter to a very good ball. Ollie then took two wickets from his last two balls of his over including the set in batsman, leaving him on a hattrick for the start of his next over. After Harry’s next over, Ollie came back on for his hattrick ball. Their captain was on strike, meaning this was no simple task. He managed to take the wicket with the batter trying to pull it only to find Ruby at square leg. Great stuff Ollie! They then started to panic a bit, taking some risky runs which led to them losing 2 wickets to good run outs by Harry and Ruby. Harry kept bowling and ended up cleaning up one of their best batters for a golden duck. Tarnia then had another over and took the final wicket. We bowled pretty well so all we had to do now was chase their measly score of 72.

Catey and I opened the batting today and got things underway before Catey fell unfortunately on her first ball to a very good in swinging seed. Harry then came in at 1-3. Harry and I built a nice partnership, cruising our way to drinks with only 18 runs to chase. Their bowling attack was tired, so we took advantage and scored the runs required quickly still with 8 overs to go, boosting our net run rate. Harry finished on 21 from 54 not out and I finished on 41 from 51 not out.

We all played well today but we still have a few things to work on. We are now sitting nicely at the top of the table as Queens lost to Helensvale. Next week we have a very good chance to go into the Christmas break at the summit! Congrats to Ollie and Harry for outstanding games today and especially Ollie for the first RBCC Junior hattrick this season! Also, thanks to Dani and Charmaine for the fruit today!

After last week's washout, our lads faced off against Burleigh in a one-day showdown. Jake won the toss and decided to bat - because why not start the day with a little stress!

Stevie and Joe opened the innings, but Stevie's attempt at stealing a quick run turned out not to be the best decision, ending with a direct hit and his untimely demise. Joe followed suit, caught in front for LBW.

Enter Morgan, our new specialist batsman, who teamed up with Hamish Murdoch for a quick 30-run partnership. Sadly, Hamish's stumps decided to play catch with the ball.

Will joined Morgan, and they batted very well together, taking the score to 81 before Morgan fell for a heroic 41 off 50. Aiden then strutted in like he owned the place, smacking a one-bounce 4 into long-on, because why bother with singles when you can go big!

Will, not to be outdone, pulled out some reverse sweeps that would make a contortionist jealous. The team reached 102 before both Aiden and Will lost their wickets, probably due to excessive awesomeness.

Jake and Hamish C finished things off, with Hamish scoring a lightning-fast 5 off 3 balls, while Jake proudly contributed a whopping 0 off 1 ball. Hey, sometimes less is more, right?

Defending 122, Stevie and Jake opened the bowling, in the same vein as Cummins and Starc!. The opening spell was fantastic by the duo, with the first 10 overs finishing up at 3/20. Stevie, our bowling virtuoso, ended with figures of 3/7 off 5, while Jake's 0/13 off 5 proved that sometimes, it's not about taking wickets, it's about looking good trying.

The rest of the bowlers joined the party, with Hamish, AJ, and Noah all chipping in. Noah, in particular, decided to show off with a quick 3 for 5 runs off 3 overs - talk about efficiency!

In the end, Burleigh could only muster 55 runs, probably because they were too busy admiring our team's dazzling performance in the field.

And there you have it, folks - a victory that keeps us in the hunt on the ladder and proves that in cricket, as in life, it's not just about hitting sixes and taking wickets, but also about having fun along the way.
