Under 11's Round 3 Under 12's - Opens Round 2 Day 1
🏏 Under 11’s
The weekend gone we played our first home match of the season. We were pitched against a very strong opposition, Helensvale Gold.
We won the toss and batted first. Eshan and Ziggy were the top scorers. Our batters negotiated a fast and disciplined bowling attack reasonably well and I would like to congratulate them for doing so. We ended up scoring 74 runs.
When it came to bowling, we kept the wides to a minimum. Harrison took 4 wickets and was unlucky to miss a hat trick, twice. He was again adjudged as the POTM. Eshan took 2 wickets and Ryder and Ziggy contributed with a wicket each.
Fletcher and Jackson again showed great teamwork.

Our second match of the season is against Burleigh at home on the beautifully kept Bay 3 field. Captain Hudson won the toss and chose to field first on a slightly damp wicket.
Day 1 saw a great session of cricket with both teams surviving the 25 overs. This was a team goal we set ourselves at the start of the season and it was a great feeling to achieve it so early in the season.
A great decision by the team was to bowl our only spinner Nash first where he took his first wicket of the day caught and bowled on the 2nd delivery. Burleigh managed to settle in and post a first day score of 7/97. Nash, Archie, Maggie, Harry and Hugo all took wickets with Maggie posting an amazing economy rate of 1.00 off her 3 overs.
Lachie and Archie opened the batting and lasted well into the 7th over where Lachie was finally bowled out for 7 off 32 balls. Archie was amazing with the bat and could only be dismissed by and unfortunate runout ending with 19 off 44 balls. Some extremely accurate bowling caught us out with Harry, Maggie, Olive and Hudson all getting clean bowled leaving us at 7/83.
Its going to be a great Day 2 so if your around at the club some over and say gday.

We started day with in the field. The boys were up and about and worked through the first 13 overs with some very tidy bowling and fielding.
We managed to bowl out palmy 2 overs after drinks.
Everyone managed a wicked with a couple getting 2. We bowled a few more extras than we liked however it’s great to see the boys get the chance to reset and finish their set strong. Our fielding was on point, this was a focus this week so it was great to see the boys nail it. Effort and intensity set them up for success.
Palmy had some kids new to cricket, it’s really impressive that our boys understood this and maintained a supportive environment without detriment to their game plan.
Although the bowling was frustrating at times, as we saw any ball can get a wicket. We batted as a team and kept the run rate ticking over by working between the wickets.
There was some quality bowling and fielding in the mix so the boys were kept on their toes. Great job.
As always the boys sportsmanship was pleasing to see. It made for a great morning!
Congrats to Kade for nailing his 50! Great work.

Although short on numbers, the team should be extremely proud of all their effort.
Nikita and Ruby both hitting double figures on our way to 62.
Our lack of fielders was the cause of allowing our target to be accomplished.
Certainly not out of the game but with consistent bowling on day 2 and an innings from Mikel, Charlie Amber and Evans we shall be right back in it.

After a close win against Helensvale last week, we kicked off round 2 with our first home game of the season against Southport Labrador. This fixture represents a huge right of passage as the kids got to play their first ever game on Sam Loxton 1. With access to the club changing rooms and the opportunity to play on one of the Gold Coasts best ovals, there was plenty to be excited about!
This week our team seemed to arrive in staggered installments and our warmups were very much a struggle with a few tired faces not appearing overjoyed at the early morning wake up call! Unfortunately, this wasn’t restricted to the just the warmups and whilst we held Southport to a very chaseable total, we represented a team that was pulling in two very different directions. The fundamentals of getting your body behind the ball, bowling in the channel, and showing intent was lacking this week. Whilst SLCC scored a modest 6/154, this included 26 extras plus another 15-20 runs in misfields and some very short bowling that gifted easy runs either side of the wicket.
Whilst the overall performance was below par, there were some highlights:
- Catey put in her usual warrior like efforts with the ball and in the field and even swapped positions with Radin to put herself back in the firing line of a very angry Magpie.
- Aidan, Ollie and Quaid bowled incredible middle over spells, restricting the flow of runs and extras perfectly.
- Whist not necessarily known for her bowling, Lucy bowled 3 loopy overs of very accurate spin which enabled us to set a field and restrict the runs.
Plenty to work on at training this week. Go Bay!

Turf Under 17s Div 2 - A Thrilling Showdown at Mudgeeraba!
This week, the stage was set at Mudgeeraba for an electrifying clash against the Bushmen (and Bushwomen!). After losing the toss, our team faced the challenge of batting first—an opportunity for growth that we eagerly embraced.
The pitch, although grassy, promised a hard surface, and our opening duo of Stevie and Lachy stepped up to the crease. Unfortunately, Stevie's innings was cut short by a sensational delivery, a reminder of the tough job opening batsmen face. But as one door closed, another swung wide open: enter Aiden! Promoted to the top order, he arrived with a swagger that demanded attention. From his very first ball, Aiden was in charge, expertly dispatching anything wide through the covers with a mix of front and backfoot punches.
As Aiden and Lachy forged a solid 25-run partnership, momentum seemed to be shifting in our favor. However, the Mudgeeraba spinners soon turned the tide, tightening the screws and causing the wickets to tumble. In a tense 20-over spell, we lost four wickets for only a handful of runs, leaving us reeling at 7/70. But Aiden stood strong, scoring a determined 30 before departing, leaving us with serious concerns about reaching 100.
Just when it seemed all hope was lost, a dramatic eighth-wicket partnership emerged. Hamish Canning and Joe Brenac came to the rescue, rallying brilliantly with a phenomenal 49-run stand. As Hamish played the supporting role, Joe began to find his rhythm, steadily increasing the run rate and building confidence. But just as things were looking promising, Hamish fell to a catch, followed swiftly by Noah. Suddenly, the score stood precariously at 9/119.
Then, with a mixture of nerves and excitement, AJ Franscisconni strode to the crease, joining Joe, who was unbeaten on 48. What followed was nothing short of spectacular! In a thrilling display of teamwork and skill, AJ and Joe unleashed a barrage of runs, combining for an astonishing unbeaten 61-run partnership. AJ remained solid at 22, but it was Joe who stole the show, finishing on a breathtaking 87!
Thanks to this remarkable effort, we surged to a formidable total of 9/180, turning what seemed like a dire situation at 7/70 into a strong position in the 2-day match. The transformation of our tail into a fighting force was nothing short of amazing—what a performance!
Stay tuned for the next chapter in this game!
