Under 11's Round 4 Under 12's - Opens Round 2 Day 2

🏏 Under 11’s

This weekend we played against Helensvale Green team at Helensvale junior school ground. The pitch at this ground is very narrow.

We decided to bat first after winning the toss. Our batters showed great intent with the tone been set by Jackson who opened with Ryder and scored 13 runs. Fletcher continued in the same vein and was our top scorer with 16 runs. He had a good partnership with Eshan who contributed with 15 runs. Ziggy and Harrison were the last batting pair and ran well between the wickets. Harrison scored 12 valuable runs. We scored 93 runs and lost 10 wickets. Eshan and Ziggy remained not out.

When it was our turn to bowl, the boys bowled well and restricted the opposition to 95 runs. They managed to take 4 wickets. Harrison took 2 and Eshan took 1 wicket.

We lost the match because we lost more wickets.

The boys are improving in all aspects of the game. The POTM was shared by Fletcher and Eshan for stiching a good partnership in the middle overs. Congratulations to both.

Its a win!

Resuming play with Burleigh at 7/97 and our crew at 7/83 was always going to generate an exciting days cricket at Runaway bay. Again, the field was immaculate and the weather perfect and the kids from both teams pumped.

We had 2 trial players this week. We are grateful for Nick and Gustav giving the game a shot and fitting into the team so well. Fingers crossed the fellas enjoyed themselves and can convince their old man to sign up!

Burleigh resumed their first innings with 3 wickets in hand and were able to put on an additional 25 runs ending at 10/122. Rising star Lachlan McQueen cleaned up the final 2 batsmen with a caught and bowled and a really good catch by Maggie.

Hugo and Maggie took the crease for our second innings and were looking unstoppable chasing the 39 runs required. Hugo was putting away anything down leg and Maggie was playing some her trademark off drives with the pair piling on a 16 run partnership.  Olive and Lachlan stuck it out at the crease letting an inform (and wise beyond his years) Hugo take us into the lead and beyond ending up unbeaten on 23 (off 35 deliveries).

We ended the innings at 10/140 with great batting all round. We are all so proud of how our kids are handling themselves in the new format.

Great way to finish off the game of cricket. The boys worked through batting, bowling and fielding plans really well.

Good game for the team to build a bit of confidence really for some challenging games ahead. As always, the boys worked as a team, sharing the roles and doing what they could to build pressure within that role. Whether it be batting long, making runs, fielding or bowling, each player did their bit.

We played the game in great spirit and gave palm beach a great chance to develop themselves. The boys were supportive but still went through the motions to the best of their ability.

All our returning retired batters managed to hold their wicked and score some good runs. Great Job Jude and Kade as our high scorers. Also mention to Will and Benji, both managed to see out there 60 balls. This was a great opportunity for these boys to spend some time in the middle.

Our fielding and bowling were next level this week. We will use the momentum to build on this at training. We held some great catches, stopped so many runs trough commitment to stopping the ball and took every possible opportunity to grab a wicket. This come through accuracy in our bowling and continually bowling good areas.

Special mention to Cooper! He is out through injury, rest up mate. Looking forward to seeing you back asap.

Thanks everyone!

After a mixed performance on Day 1, we returned to Loxton 1 to chase down a tricky 155 without our top order gun Aidan, who was busy smashing plates at a family wedding (“Opaaaa”).

In Aidan’s absence we pushed Radin up to open the batting with Lucy and together they got us off to a great start. The goal for our openers was to see off the new ball and set a solid foundation and they did this well until Radin was ran out for 12. Harry came in at number 3 and got an early life after coming down the track to the spinner. Lucy and Harry got into their groove and looked very assured before Lucy was caught for an extremely valuable 22 from 45. Lucas also looked at ease with the bat but got a good ball that nipped back, and we had gone from 1-70 to 3-84 in a few short overs.

Ollie batting at #5 this week, came in with very clear instructions to bat long and take the game deep. The run rate wasn’t an issue and the extras continued to pile up from SLCC’s bowlers, so we just needed to play sensible cricket. Ollie and Harry ran well between the wickets and occupied the crease for close to 150 deliveries between them. Harry was so unlucky not get his 50 after chipping a full toss to short cover to be out for 42 from 75. Great knock Haz!

Catey made her way to crease with the score at 4-115 needing 40 runs to win. She ran hard between the wickets and looked rock solid in defense as we cruised past the target in the 44th over. Ollie was eventually dismissed for 23 from 73 balls which brought Mac to the crease to slap it around and boost our NRR.

Overall, a great effort and a very composed run chase. Highlights from day 2:

- A great start from Lucy and Radin to get us through the new ball.

- A great knock from Harry after resetting from an early error, to go on and score a game changing 42 from 75 (50’s just around the corner mate!)

- A marathon innings from Ollie batting for over 25 overs and executing his instructions perfectly.

- Great composure from Catey to run hard and get us over the line with the win.

Whilst it was great to get another win so early in the season, the victim(s) from our success in this instance was we had three batters who didn’t get a go. This is unfortunately a cruelty of the game and sometimes the best days for the team, result in disappointment for a few individuals. That said, I was incredibly impressed at how the guys handled this disappointment and continued to support their teammates right up until the last ball. Exceptional work team!

As always, thanks to the parents for all the help on game day.

After setting a good total last week, we had 180 to defend.

Stevie started us off again and the very first over brought success, with Stevie, off his own bowling, chasing the ball and running out one of the opening batsmen. This really set the tone of the day for our fielding.

Second over - Jake dismisses the other opener, bowling him around the legs with an outswinger that started down leg side. By the 4th over Jake had picked up his second wicket.

Stevie and Jake finished their spells Hamish and Will had a bowl but with no luck and Mudgerraba were scoring at a reasonable rate to keep themselves in the game.

Noan and AJ came on to bowl and both of them bowled a magnificent 10 over spell that really put the pressure on Mudgeeraba, with them only scoring 12 runs and losing two wickets, one to AJ and another great runout from ....

Naoh, Jake and Stevie kept the pressure on with the bowling continuing to keep the run rate down. Stevie and Toby took wickets and two more run outs saw Mudgeeraba ending up 8-139 after their 50 overs and our first win of the season!!!

Standouts for the day firstly were our fielding performance with sharp fielding, great throwing, great glovework from Flynn and amazing backing up. Secondly some great bowling from everyone, but especially Noah, who was on the money with his 10 overs only going for 23 runs, Jake's tight bowling as always with great figures of 2/11 off 10 overs, Toby 1/12 off 7 and AJ 1/4 off 5. This is the best I have seen AJ and Noah bowl, it was fantastic.

Close call for player of the match with great performances by Jake, Noah and AJ with the ball and Aiden and AJ with the bat, but it will have to go to Joe Brenac for his magnificent 85* last week…

This win was truly a team effort with great performances from everyone - when we lost wickets or didn’t bowl so well, the other team mates stood up and did the job- well done boys!! This is testament to the supportive culture of the team and playing for the team and not just for yourself. Individual performances should be celebrated but team results are so much better and more rewarding.

With a bye in the next round, the team's next game is scheduled for November 15th against Broadbeach, where they'll look to build on this impressive performance
