Junior Match Reports

Junior 28 & 29/11/2025

Under 10’s Navy

This week saw our navy seagulls take on one of Helensvale’s stronger teams. We lost the toss and was sent into bat first. We posted a fair total considering a few of the opposition players were of the older vintage playing on Saturdays with hard ball cricket. Nevertheless, our boys and girls chipped away finding the boundary on quite a few occasions with good running between wickets to pick up some cheeky singles.

In the field we bowled well with standout performances from Lara again bowling on point giving the batsmen no space to play shots. Some would say we have a junior ‘noodle’ in the making, as her tight bowling forced batting errors from the opposition, and reminded us of her old man back in his 1st grade playing heyday!

The player of the match was our young gun Hudson. We normally give out the award for bowling or batting but his performance was given out for an elite master class in fielding! Under bad light, Hudson took 3 amazing catches with one close range catch which was pure reflexes! He also backed up with some boundary saving stops keeping the mums and dads on the edge of their camp chairs!

All in all we were out played by an older more experienced crew, but we stayed competitive and in the game till the end. Well done navy on playing right up until the bell!

Under 10’s Orange vs Helensvale Silver

This week, a severely depleted Runaway Bay Orange took on the might of Helensvale Silver. With end of year school performances and awards nights robbing us of Charlie, Yaqub and Lucas (for half a game), Neil off to India until next year and Abhi MIA, we had 5 at the start of the game which made tonight’s captain James’ job in selecting the batting line up considerably easier.  That was until the cavalry arrived in the form of Alex, Callum, Arthur and Reuben after their u/11 training finished and weren’t we entertained by some quality cricket. James flipped the bat and the Orange team were asked to pad up by the opposition captain.

James’s revised batting lineup looked formidable with the addition of the 3 ring ins but with Callum and Artur still only being nine, they were both eligible, but coming from U/11’s their batting stood out.  James opened with Alex (who understood he was playing until Lucas arrived) made the most of it and smashed 38, Callum hit 46 looking like a 9yo Chris Gayle sans dreadlocks, and Arthur bludgeoned 32.  Bay Orange regulars, Elijah, Lucius and Zac all topped 20 with Billy and James each reaching double figures to ensure that everybody filled their boots to post an impressive 4/213. Easily our highest score for the year. Running and calling was excellent once again with only 2 runouts, and Lucius tried to set a new record again this week with runs ‘run’ off a single ball but only managed to get to three. Better luck next week

With a huge score on the board, but not knowing at the time exactly how many, Elijah, Lucius, Zac, Arthur and Callum all bowled a miserly first over each and we had them 3/12 off the first five overs.  We rushed through to get Alex an over in before Lucas arrived and he didn’t disappoint with 2/4 and being on a hattrick after a couple of great catches in the dark. Zac led the way with 4/13 off his 3 overs of controlled leggies (with 2 or 3 possibly going the other way), Callum snagged 3/2 (2) on 50% power, and Arthur, Elijah, Billy, Alex and Lucas all got two each, with Lucas getting his first bowled wicket for the year. Another solid effort all-round by the boys with no one really getting hit too badly, and as a team we restricted Helensvale to 105 and taking 18 wickets.

In the field, apart from the sometimes over the top celebrations, we were really disciplined and alert, with 7 runouts, no glaring misfields, and excellent backing up of throws at the stumps. Special mention to Billy for his fielding tonight who was seen diving for everything in the covers and probably cutting off about 20 runs on his own. It was dark, so I apologise if I’ve got the wrong person here, but Lucius’s low catch to the left in the covers off a well-timed slash was brilliant and set the standard for the team with another 3 catches by the team tonight. Thanks to Reuben for filling in in the field for a couple of overs to give Callum a spell and we all know how much of a gun he was last year in U/10’s, well he has clearly gone on with it this year with some good coaching and development. Sorry I couldn’t get you an over, but I appreciate you trying to get on and asking every 3 minutes, you clearly love cricket.

A good win by the Orange team, thanks again to Callum, Arthur, Alex and Reuben, who not only helped us with numbers and stats on the scoresheet, but showed our boys what the next level of cricket looks like first hand, and I think we all rose to the standard set by these boys. If you can see it, you can be it.  We just need to keep turning up to games and training with a good attitude, willingness to work hard, and love for the game and anything can happen. Our player of the match this week was Elijah, who wasn’t going to let himself be overshadowed, continued on with his consistent season so far with another 28 runs, 2/16 (3), 2 direct runouts and a cracking catch. Well deserved and a great attitude as well.

Well done again boys, Go The Bay!

Match Report – RBCC Batting Innings

Chasing a big score of 290 by Surfers last week, Runaway Bay’s innings never quite settled into the rhythm we were after, with regular wickets breaking any early momentum. Will Altass worked hard for his 4 from 23 before falling, and Flynn Richardson provided a brief lift with a positive 16 off 29, finding the rope three times. Stephen Watson added a quick 8, but the middle order couldn’t convert their starts, with Aidan Long (4) and A.J. Francesconi (1) both removed cheaply. Jake Schultz offered a short counterpunch with 4 from 4, and Hamish Canning matched it with another brisk 4, but neither were able to push on. The standout of the innings was Lucy Logan, who anchored the entire effort with a composed and invaluable 29 not out from 89 deliveries, holding things together while wickets fell around her. Noah McQueen battled hard for his 2 from 23 before being stumped by taking a quick stroll out of his crease while the keeper still had the ball in his gloves. The Bay was all out for 84.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad

This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.

To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.

Runaway Bay Pink Diamonds vs Surfers Paradise – Rescheduled Round 3 Match Report

Under bright skies and good vibes, Surfers won the toss and sent our Pink Diamonds in to bat — and off we went!

Batting Highlights Kirsten and Bec got us off to a cracking start, making 14 and 23 respectively off 14 balls each. Kelly followed and had an absolute day out, smashing a PB of 27 runs off 14 balls! Everyone else in the order faced 13 balls and added beautifully to the total: • Sonia chipped in a strong 18 • Emily kept it moving with 13 • First-year cricketers Tracy and Lori both hit new PBs, with 17 for Tracy and 10 for Lori — outstanding efforts! • Gaylene and Faith brought us home with 11 and 7 respectively All up, the Pink Diamonds put together 140 runs and had 6 out.

Bowling & Fielding Effort After drinks, we hit the field with great energy. Tracy kicked things off, finishing with 0/25 off 2 overs. Sonia backed up with a tight spell of 0/8 off 2 — tidy, tidy, tidy! Bec delivered 0/11 off 2, Emily was bowling so well she earned an extra over, finishing with 1/14 off 4 and taking out our team’s Player of the Day — brilliant bowling, Emily, absolutely deserved. Kelly kept superbly behind the stumps and teamed up with Emily for a sharp run-out, while also bowling 0/23 off 3. Kirsten contributed 0/18 off 2, and Gaylene claimed the only other wicket, bowling the batter and finishing with a PB of 1/19 off 2 — well done! Lori bowled 0/20 off 2, and Faith rounded out the innings with 0/7 off her over. Surfers batted strongly, finishing with 148 runs, and only 2 out. To top it off, Sonia was awarded Player of the Day by the Surfers ladies — a wonderful acknowledgement of her tidy bowling and strong all-round game!

Team Spirit Although the win didn’t go our way — 150 to Surfers’ 178 — we walked off proud. Three new PBs with the bat, a new PB for Gaylene with the ball, Emily as our Player of the Day, and Sonia recognised by the opposition — an incredible reflection of our team’s effort and sportsmanship. A massive thank you to Coach Gareth for guiding us, Brad for umpiring, Hugo for helping score, and Bec for filling in so we could field a full team. Big appreciation to the Surfers ladies for a fun, friendly match and to our amazing support crew — your cheering genuinely lifts us. Well done, Pink Diamonds — another game full of grit, laughs, and team spirit!
