Under 11's Round 16 Under 12's - Opens Round 9 Day 2

šŸ Under 11ā€™s

On the 15th of February 2025, the Runaway Bay Seagulls U11 faced the table toppers Helensvale Gold. The game was shifted to Helensvale Primary school from the Century Pools Oval due to poor playing conditions. Fletcher captained the team. We were put into bat after losing the bat flip. Callum, Rueben and Harry from the U10 team joined us again for the match.

Harry (4) and Reuben (2) were the opening pair. They like the rest of our team had to negotiate some good fast bowling from the opposition. They were followed by Fletcher and Callum, both of whom provided our team with much needed momentum. They both contributed 12 runs each. The next pair in were Ziggy (8) and Ryder (7) followed by Eshan (10) and Harrison (7). Our total was 82 runs. Fletcher scored our only boundary.

Harry took 2 wickets and was our highest wicket taker. Ziggy, Reuben and Fletcher took a wicket each. Fletcher and Reuben did well behind the wickets. Fletcher took a catch while doing so.

The opposition was too good for us on the day and we lost the match.

Fletcher won the POTM, third time in a row.

We put in a strong bowling effort on Day 2, working hard to contain Mudgeeraba's batting lineup. Hugo set the tone early with a tight spell, finishing with outstanding figures of 1/11 (from 5 overs), including three maidens.

Archie showed us all what he can do with the ball ending with 3/22, cleaning up the lower order and ensuring Mudgeeraba didnā€™t push their total too high. Everyone was extremely economical keeping Mudgee to 164 off 46.4 overs.

We resumed batting on Day 2 at 6/57, still needing 107 runs for victory. Hugo anchored the innings with an impressive 32 off 79 balls*, showing great patience and shot selection. He was well-supported by valuable contributions from the middle and lower order forcing an unexpected amount of extras taking us to 97 off 40.2 overs.

Though the result didnā€™t go our way, we showed incredible determination, resilience, and teamwork throughout the two days. Plenty of positives to take forward into the next game where we hopefully have Maggie back in the lineup!

Big challenge for the boys this weekend. Broady got out to a handy lead day 1.

The boys come out really strong. We stuck to our plan, and did our best to have a crack at the broady batting lineup. Our line and length bowling slowed the scoring and allowed run pressure to build.

Great opportunity this weekend for some of the boys to try spend some extra time out in the middle. We hung on but we were all out with 8 over remaining. Really impressed with our dedication to try hang in there.

Massive team effort and the turn around from the previous weekend was awesome.

Final score Broady 8/282 Bay 10/143 off 41.5 overs.

Great game played in great spirit, the team can take so much from it.

Thanks to all the helpers!!

Today we arrived at a damp looking Loxton 2. We had the pick of the conditions considering we were bowling and it was nice and overcast. We made 268 last week, which was an awesome score for us to try and get the outright.

We opened up with Alex and Catey. First ball of the game Alex bowls an absolute peach which completely bowls their opener out for a golden. This was then followed up by some very tight bowling which restricted them from scoring. They built a little partnership before Quaid ripped one through to get another breakthrough. Mac also joined the party bowling the next batter. From here the wickets tumbled.

Harry came on and bowled some tight lines taking a wicket of his own. Ollie then bowled some rippers to get 2 batters driving which ended up in stumpings. He finished up with a total 4 crucial wickets. Well bowled Ollie! Alex also joined in later on bowling some rippers to snag 2 more wickets to see him finish with 3fa. Well bowled Alex!

We sent them back in to try and get an outright and this time Harry and I opened. Unfortunately, we just couldnā€™t seem to get one past them, as they were being very defensive. The first wicket comes from a mix up which then opened up the game for us. Wickets fell from here with Catey taking 2, Mac taking one and Ollie taking another as well, nearly getting us to our first outright win of the season.

Unfortunately, we couldnā€™t get it done but that shouldnā€™t take a way from what was a very dominant win by us. Great job by Ollie for taking 5 in the day and to Alex for bowling very well with 3 wickets.

Thank you to Brad for the fruit this week! Next week we face Broady where we have a chance of knocking them out of finals contention!

Last week, we bowled Alberton out for 124, and with 0/11 on the board to start Day 2, the win was within reach.

Stevie and Lachy both got starts but couldnā€™t push into double figures. When Flynn fell for 10, we found ourselves at 3/37, though we still had plenty of wickets in hand. Unfortunately, the middle order faltered, with Joe, James, and Jake all falling cheaply, leaving us at 6/73.

Hamish C was promoted up the order and joined Will at the crease, building a crucial partnership that brought us to 100. However, Will was bowled when one kept low. Aiden followed soon after, and with only 10 players available this week, we were down to our final wicketā€”Noah.

Hamish and Noah batted well, and with 14 runs needed off 6 overs, it was getting nerve raking . But sadly, Hamish was bowled for 11 and we fell just short of what shouldā€™ve been an achievable target.

A few poor shot selections cost us this week, but the standout performance once again came from Will Altass, the backbone of the middle order. His solid knock of 28 showed great composureā€”he just needed a couple more batters to stick around with him.
