Week 3 24 & 25/10/2025
This week we hosted Helensvale Blue. Hudson had the reins as our Cap’a’tarn and after the toss we were sent in to bat. We got off to a flyer with Owen sending the second ball of the game into the next postcode for maximum. Again we dominated with solid hitting from all. One player that stood out was Toby’s effective hitting of the cone ball ( a dark horse as he almost never misses the opportunity for a free hit ) Wyatt contributed with a great six and some hard hitting, along with solid batting performances from Jack and Finn both finding the fence and taking advantage of wayward bowling. One thing the coaches are loving at the moment, is the technical straight bat that Spencer is producing on game day. He’s maybe not seeing the benefit just yet in this format,as a cross bat slog is everyone’s go to…. but seeing a young fella play a cover drive in under 10’s with bad light says we might have a top line batter coming through our bay ranks! Keep up the good work 🤜
In the field one thing to note was the dramatic improvement of fielding in our side. Lara showed great awareness backing up when throws were coming in at the stumps. We also witnessed some raw athletic fielding with boundary slides from Finn and Hudson under lights. Again we haven’t really got to this with training, but some natural athletic ability is definitely evident in some of our team players.
Our team bowled well with tight bowling again from Lara and Finn, with our player of match Wyatt almost putting together a hat trick with 2 consecutive wickets! A fantastic performance 🤜
Another solid game with the result on the right side of the ledger! Go the mini Navy Seagull’s!

Under 10’s Orange
Under 10’s Orange vs Helensvale Blue
The Bay Under 10’s Orange played Helensvale Blue this week at Loxton Oval 1 under lights. We had 2 players missing this week, but with the recruiting teams hard work over the off season meant we still had a strong team of 8 to take on the opposition, who this week had one at the toss but ended up with 7. Captain Yaqub was flipped the bat and won the toss, so we did the right thing and fielded.
We bowled 18 overs (partly through time taken to bowl that many, but mostly because the coach can’t count to 20) and restricted Helensvale to 103 with the loss of 9 wickets, all runouts!!! Still a lot of cone balls but the fielding effort by all was excellent. Special mention to Lucas, Abhi, Elijah and Zac all with direct hits. The usual suspects led the way with Charlie, Elijah and Zac very accurate with the ball in hand. All were economical, but Charlie didn’t concede a cone ball in his 3 overs, taking 1-8. As Richie Benaud would say “Shuper effort, that!”.
In reply, the captain’s well-structured batting line up chased down the runs easily. Going at nearly 10 an over the job was made easy by solid batting the whole way down the lineup. Charlie summoned his inner Chris Lynn and smacked anything he saw around the ground on his way to a player of the match effort of 34 off 13 balls. Zac backed up his top score from last week with another 27, same as Billy who is consistently showing his precision hitting off the cone. Elijah was the other batter to reach 20 but again, almost everyone reached double figures. The running between wickets and calling is improving out of sight with improvement seen in every player.
Another cracking game this week from the Bay U/10 Orange. It’s easy to see the enjoyment that all the boys have for the game and the willingness to try to get better shows through each week. The little things are where the most improvement is coming from, which helps players understand the game and allows us to have more fun playing this great game. Hope to see you all at training Tuesday afternoon.
Well done again boys, Go The Bay!

Under 11’s

Under 11s
RBCC V Coomera
Our mighty under 11s travelled to sir Bruce small to play a home game against Coomera
Our captain this week was Rueben who lost the toss and we were sent into have a bowl, We bowled really well bowing in partnerships which really slowed Coomera’s batting attack. Our fielding was tremendous with our young superstars putting their bodies on the line for the team, Reuben lead the team brilliantly with encouragement and advice to the bowlers, He was the stand out bowler being on a hatrick in his first over his figures were 3 wickets for 7 runs off his 3 overs, Ziggy and saddie also chipped in with a wicket each while Arthur and Callum done a fantastic job behind the stumps wicket keeping
We opened the Batting with Reuben and Callum both lads batting out of their skin hitting a boundary each and both retiring not out Reuben 13 and Callum 14, Next to come in was Ziggy and Harry, Ziggy hitting the shot of the game with a text book cover drive to the boundary that any first grade cricketer would be Ziggy finished on 9 and Harry on 8 Harrys running between the wickets and loud calling was really Important in those middle overs, Next Batters up were Sadie and Arthur, Sadie playing a great roll in rotation of strike and a solid 5 not out Arthur played some amazing shots hitting 3 boundries and carrying his bat for a whopping 18 runs off 13 balls im not sure what he had for breakfast but I hope he has the same next week. Zac and Alex were next in both playing a pivotal roll at the end running well between the wickets and Alex hitting his first 4 in under 11s,zac finished up on 6 and Alex 11. Next batter in was Vansh, it was Vansh first game with us this season fresh of a nice holiday overseas, with a lot of pressure on the new batter he played a really good innings hitting a nice 4 straight down the ground and running well between the wickets with Zac. Vansh ended up on 11,
Man of the match this week was Reuben,

Under 13’s Division 1

Day 1 Bay v Southport/hvale
We lost the toss and were given the ball.
As always the boys were up and about in the field and we were rewarded with a great direct hit run out. The next two batters steadied the ship and built a strong partnership. The boys persisted and were rewarded with another after the drinks break. We kept at them and although were a bit loose with the ball at times our fielding and energy kept the runs to a minimum.
It looked like the opposition were going to make it through their 50 overs relatively easily, however our persistence paid off and everyone cashed in on their opportunities. We nearly got them in the end. Few things to work on and the extras hurt a bit but that’s going to happen every now and then. The ways the boys bounced back is what’s important.
We’ve got a very achievable target and it’s a great opportunity for the boys to try chase it down. Loved the way they worked together and never gave up on a hot windy day. Great effort.
Awards went to Ollie and Robert.
Thanks everyone for making it happen.

Under 13’s Division 2

Junior Match Report: Runaway Bay Seagulls U13 Div 2 vs Helensvale Hawks U13 Div 2 on Sam Loxton 3
Runaway Bay Seagulls took on Helensvale Hawks this week on Sam Loxton 3 our 1st official home game of the season.
We lost the toss again ha ha and was sent into bat first, posting a total of 7-126 from our 25 overs . The innings was anchored by a late-order surge, with a nash returning after being dismissed earlier adding a rapid 33* off 24 balls (6x4s), supported by Jackson Wakefield who remained 18* not out. Earlier contributions came from Hugo Collett with 18 and Magdalena McQueen with 12 who steady the ship after a few quick dismissals.
In their chase, Helensvale Hawks put up a strong fight but fell short, being bowled out for 120 in the 25th over .
The difference in the match was the exceptional bowling performance by Charlie who was awarded our player of the match who was our standout bowler, tearing through the lower order with superb figures of 4 wickets for just 9 runs off 3.1 overs. Magdalena was also highly effective, claiming 3 wickets for 18 runs with our guys bowling out Helensvale for 120 and managing to take home the win this week.
Really good effort as a team managing firstly to get out score to 126 but more importantly defending it, all our effort in training is starting to pay off.

Open Turf Division 1

Match Report – Runaway Bay Seagulls Opens Div 1 vs Queens Open Div 1
Date: 19 October 2025
Venue: Greg Chaplin Oval
Toss: Runaway Bay Seagulls won the toss and elected to bowl
The Runaway Bay Seagulls Opens Division 1 side took on Queens Open Div 1 in their latest fixture, with play split across two weekends in this 50-over contest.
Winning the toss, the Seagulls elected to bowl first — a decision that paid off immediately with an early breakthrough. Stephen Watson struck in his second over, trapping the Queens opener lbw to get the Seagulls rolling. From there, the bowling group shared the workload superbly, maintaining steady pressure throughout the innings.
Stand-in captain Toby Hudson led from the front, finishing with three wickets overall, including two vital scalps in a sharp opening spell. He maintained excellent control through his six overs. A.J. Francesconi bowled with great rhythm in the middle stages, claiming two key wickets, while Taika Hoare, Hamish Canning and Will Altass struck at important moments, each picking up a wicket to keep the Seagulls in the contest.
The energy in the field was outstanding, highlighted by sharp catches from Toby and Hamish, as well as a smart run out executed by Hamish. However, after reducing Queens to 8/163, the Seagulls struggled to finish the innings off, with the final two wickets adding an extra 45 runs. Despite losing their way slightly in the final 10 overs, the bowlers regrouped to dismiss the opposition in the 44th over — restricting them to a gettable total.
With 20 minutes remaining in the day’s play, Stephen Watson and Lucy Logan opened the batting, tasked with surviving the final six overs. Stevie fell early, but Lucy and Taika steadied the innings with a composed partnership, batting sensibly to see the team through to stumps.
Lucy anchored the short innings with an assured 8 (21), showing excellent concentration and game awareness, while Taika struck the first boundary of the innings and remained 7 (14) not out. The Seagulls closed the day on 1/19 after 6 overs, setting the stage for an intriguing second day.
With the match evenly poised heading into next week, the Seagulls will look to build solid partnerships, rotate the strike, and capitalise on their steady start as they chase down Queens’ total.

Unlocking FrogBox Highlights with PlayHQ and LillyPad
This season, the Runaway Bay Cricket Club is excited to bring more of our cricket to life through FrogBox live streaming and highlight packages. We’ll be aiming to stream as many games as possible across Premier Cricket, Veterans, Juniors, and Women’s cricket, showcasing the talent and spirit of our club to family, friends, and supporters everywhere.
To make the most of this technology, we need the help of our scorers. The key lies in how we use PlayHQ alongside FrogBox’s highlight program, LillyPad. Here’s how it works: When live scoring in PlayHQ, you’ll notice a button on the screen labelled “Bowler Running In”*. This button should be pressed just before—or right as—the bowler begins their approach. Doing this triggers the recording of that particular ball, ensuring any exciting moment (like a wicket, a six, or a boundary) is captured for our highlight reel. By consistently pressing this button, our scorers help create accurate and exciting highlight packages that not only celebrate individual performances but also promote our teams and club culture. With everyone’s contribution, we can build a library of memorable moments that players and supporters will be able to watch back and enjoy for years to come. Let’s work together to make this season one to remember—both on and off the field.
