Under 11's Round 13 Under 12's - Opens Round 8 Day 1
🏏 Under 11’s
On the 25th of January 2025, the Runaway Bay Seagulls U11 faced Burleigh Green U11 at Sam Loxton 5. Ziggy was the captain of the team. He won the toss and elected to field.
Isla, Callum, and Ruben from our U10 team joined us for the match. Our team delivered an impressive performance in the field, limiting the opposition to 133 runs. Callum and Isla each took a caught and bowled well. Eshan took 2 wickets and Ruben took 1. Fletcher got a run out. Ziggy, Jackson, and Fletcher all bowled economically. Jackson and Ziggy kept wickets. Fletcher and Eshan opened the batting and scored 11 and 13 respectively. Ziggy batted at number three and scored 10. Callum and Ruben made 13 and 14 runs respectively with Ruben hitting our only boundary of the match. Jackson was our top scorer at 15. Isla scored 5 runs. It was a very close match but in the end we were just short scoring 117 and losing the match by 16 runs. Eshan was awarded the POTM award.

Southport won the toss and decided to bat, but the Seagulls' bowlers made sure they couldn’t get away. Hudson Schultz and Nash Thexton were on fire early, keeping things tight and picking up a wicket each. Harry Maywald was the standout, giving away just 2 runs in his 3 overs and grabbing a big wicket.
Southport’s Marlon Taylor was the only batter to put up a fight, scoring an unbeaten 39 off 60 balls, including a few lovely boundaries. But regular wickets and some sharp fielding – including a run-out by Olive Dreise and a great catch from Archie Johnson – kept Southport to just 71/4 in their first 25 overs.
We started our innings amazingly with Nash and Archie reaching their own little personal goal of making drinks without getting out. Not only that, they both played like superstars scoring 29 (55 balls) and 20( 49 balls) consecutively. Coach was nervous with a Double Ticket to Dreamworld up for grabs to the first batter making the 60 ball retirement.
Hudson had his usual explosive innings making a quick 16 off 15 leaving our anchors Lachlan and Hugo at the crease after our 25 overs.
As per usual, support from our parents / grand parents was unreal. Thanks to Maggie for coming along as we all miss you!!!

Great morning for cricket.
We lossed the toss and were sent in to bat. We settled against some very tidy bowling. The ball movement was a challenge, focusing on using our feet proved very effective and set our innings up for success.
The boys focused on partnerships, rotating the strike and keeping the pressure on the bowlers. Congrats to Zach, nailed his 50! The extra work paid off.
In the field we worked on pressure bowling, minimising extra and being dangerous in all field positions. A couple of early wickets kept the pressure on the batters. Thanks to Radin for helping out in the field!
Some work to do for next week but we are set up nicely.
Well done everyone.

We returned for our first game of the New Year after what seemed a very long Christmas break. Hosting Surfers Blue the goal was very clear this week, win the toss and bat as long as we could. We have a very deep batting line up but some of these kids were starved of batting opportunities during the first half of the season so we wanted to test ourselves across a full 50 overs.
After winning the toss Aidan made his way to the middle with Radin and they got us off to a great start. Both boys looked extremely comfortable finding the boundary often and rotating the strike well. We looked to be cruising until the 6th over when Aidan was caught chasing a wide one and Harry (caught and bowled) was back in the sheds without troubling the scorers. A very comfortable start soon looked a little ominous with the score 28/2 from 6 overs. Ollie came to the middle and he and Radin did a great job to steady the ship. Radin continued to find the boundary and the boys were exceptional at batting through either side of the drinks breaks which has been a bit of an Achillies heel for us in the past. In the 18th over Radin brought up and outstanding fifty which came at just under a run a ball. Unfortunately, he was given out LBW the next ball which marked the end of a 65-run partnership between himself and Ollie which was exactly what we needed. Well done Dinny!
Lucy came in at #5 this week and got straight to work pouncing on anything short and using her feet superbly to smash four after four down the ground. Lucy and Oliver did a great job to steady the ship after the wicket, but the latter was unlucky to be clean bowled by one that kept low and ran under his bat. A great effort to absorb pressure and settle things down Ollie (20 from 42), big score around the corner mate!
Next in was Catey who has been smashing the ball all over the place in training and she didn’t (seem to) think today needed be any different. A real feature of Catey’s batting was her driving of length and getting her hands through the ball. Catey and Lucy did a great job of building on our solid platform on their way to another 65-run partnership pushing the score past 150 with plenty of overs remaining. Catey was eventually dismissed for 25 but did some awesome damage whilst she was at the crease. Lucy was joined in the middle by Mac as she continued her fine innings eventually brining up her 50 in the 37th over of the day. Lucy’s ability to go through the gears and play 360 cricket was capped off by her smashing 16 runs off 7 balls to get to her milestone. Well done Lu!
As planned, we retired Lucy to ensure our whole batting order got time in the middle and Alex came in for a quick cameo with Mac. Whilst it didn’t pay off for Al today, he approached his innings exactly how we asked, playing his shots, and running hard before he didn’t quite commit to a drive and was caught for 5 off 10. Quaid was next in and found the boundary early with his favoured pull shot whilst picking up singles and running well with Mac. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Quaid’s day, misjudging a full toss to also be out caught for 10 off 18.
Lucy returned as the not out batter and partnered well with Mac who enjoyed some pressure free batting to make a well made 23 from 27 which included 1 four and some incredible running between the wicket.
Surfers finished a few overs short of their 50 but we still managed to post a mammoth 8/243 which was our highest score of the season. It was great to see everyone get a good opportunity with the bat and a really good mix of scenarios seeing off the new ball, steadying the ship after quick wickets and piling on the pressure after establishing a platform. Whilst it was a great team effort, special mention to Radin (52 from 54) and Lucy (68 from 69) who both passed 500 runs for Runaway Bay during their innings. See you all next week to hopefully round out a good all-round performance.

This week, we faced the formidable Helensvale, currently sitting at the top of the table. They've been in dominant form throughout the season, with both their batting and bowling consistently delivering heavy blows to their opposition.
Given our strong bowling lineup, Jake won the toss and chose to bowl first. Our goal for the day was to keep their total under 200, which would give us a fighting chance.
Stevie and Jake opened the bowling, and it wasn’t long before Stevie made an impact. He struck early, getting one of their openers caught by James in the slips. The boys bowled tirelessly, maintaining a tight line and keeping the run rate under control, but wickets were hard to come by. It wasn’t until the final over before the drinks break that we struck again, thanks to a fantastic delivery from Will that hit the top of off stump. At drinks, Helensvale were 2/71 after 17 overs.
The next 10 overs were pivotal. James, Hamish, and Noah came to the fore, with the latter two—our spin twins—tightening the screws and picking up vital wickets. Hamish and Noah bowled 20 consecutive overs, restricting runs and taking crucial scalps. After their stellar spell, Jake and Stevie returned to clean up the tail, with the final wicket falling in the 47th over.
Bowling Figures:
Noah McQueen: 10 overs, 3/24
James Munro: 2 overs, 2/4
Stevie Watson: 9 overs, 2/24
Jake Schultz: 8 overs, 1/22
Hamish Canning: 10 overs, 1/37
Will Altass: 5 overs, 1/34
Toby Hudson: 3 overs, 0/13
Our bowlers did an outstanding job, bowling Helensvale out for 161. This was an exceptional effort considering their strength as a side. And with the time only reading 10:45 am, we still had a bit of batting to do!
We faced 4 overs before the break, and though the bowling was intense, we managed to finish 1/3, with Lachy unfortunately getting out in the penultimate over of the day.
Next week, the equation is simple: if we bat our 50 overs, we should secure the win.
Another strong performance from the Div 2 boys. See you next week for part 2!
